The infant under the brass memorial would not have been a stillbirth. Stillborn children could not be baptised, and therefore could not be buried inside a church, however elevated their parents. The infant under the brass memorial would have, at the very least been baptised, and would have therefore survived birth and lived sufficiently long for the Boleyns' chaplain or the local priest to have given him this sacrament.
I soak up all that is Tudor and your channel always provides juicy stuff!! I feel a lot more went on at Penshurst than we know! Hopefully, our researchers, masters thesis youngins' and archaeologists will discover new stories for us! Thank you for consistently interesting content!
Love your channel, it showed up in my feed recently, and I immediately subscribed! Penshurst has been one of those must-know-more places for me. Being a Yank, some day I hope to get to England and do a Tudor tour, that period of time and its people are an obsession for me, my library on the subject has grown to over 200 books in under 10 years. That said, your channel provides new, in depth, fascinating material every single video. Thank you!
I want to be a private gardener on any one of the magnificent estates! That's what happens when you are a "Plant person" and plant lover for 50 years now and it hasxbeen your life's passion and work....you watch and pay note to the plants etc in shows and movies instead of actually paying heed to the story a lot of times!
I enjoyed your video. It reawakened my Tudor curiosity....but I do have a question: Why would Elizabeth Boleyn have had a stillborn child in 1522(or even later) while her youngest acknowledged child was (supposedly) in his twenties ? Born in 1480, she would have been 42 or so. Pretty late for an extra child !!
Leanie I hope you still have internet Elizabeth Boleyn married Thomas in ,1499 and Mary was born in 1500 then two or three years late 1502 o 1503 and last George 1504 so by 1522 all her children adults Mary 22 Anne 19 or 20 and George 18 and even Mary was already married and out of nowhere two kids came along how sad they died because if they had survived or one of them at least it would have a great consolation for Elizabeth and Thomas himself because their name line would not died and today we would have Earls of Wiltshire and their surname is Boleyn a pity
We visited yesterday and its a beautiful place to visit.
Thanks. Fascinating as always.
Gosh Penshurst is so beautiful nestled in an equally gorgeous part of England, Kent. 💕
What a beautiful programme. You are a great presenter and informative guide. I love seeing old houses and the history which goes with them.
