In this tech tip tutorial using Kick 2, Phil shows us how to assimilate and synthesize a favourite kick sample, even if the sample isn't perfectly clean and has artefacts so we can then tune and add effects to use in our tracks.

4:19 THIS is why Kick 2 needs a log/linear-toggle.
Watch how cumbersome and messy it is to match up points in time.
In Linear mode you could easily set the nodes,
then toggle to Log mode and continue.
*PLEASE* Sonic Academy, add a log/linear-toggle *PLEASE*
I need this feature 😫
The toggle could be another square next to CLICK VIEW 🟨🟩🟥
Or perhaps at the right end of the x-axis scrollbar..
PLEASE Sonic Academy :3
I give you money
100% agree. I purchased this plug in and it needs this feature. I posted a comment about it as well.
Kickdrum from audija is that and more!
+1 for a syncronized view of the wave with the points (with the aid of a better zoom system)
Would be great to have some sort of "automatic matching phase of a imported sample" in kick 3 (or even better, in a future kick 2 update) to have all this process automated :)
Yeah, we have elves looking into this!
@@sonicacademy How are the elve's work going?
@@sonicacademy my wallet is ready :D
@@sonicacademy hi, is this function already included in kick 3?? would be awesome
@@sonicacademy Status? 🙂
UI changed request! This would be a lot easier to use if the nodes matched up 1:1 with the wave shape. I bought this synth a while back and I do like it, but that's a change you guys should *really* look into making. It would be much more enjoyable to use. Please fix this and push out an update to those of us who purchased this already.
What.. it take u 13 min, its better then surfing kick sample, designing, or reverse engineering one and learning something, then just sample surfing endlessly
I couldn't see how you were swapping between the original imported sample kick and the engineered replica view- what button did you press?
The pitch envelope editor should be temporarily switchable to a linear mode for these tasks :( Crossing my fingers for an update...
its to bad a snare and high hat version of this plugin was never made...you could make some crazy kits if all bases where covered
I applied this method and I finally got the kick I wanted for ages. Thanks a lot!
Thanks👍
This doubly frustrating! What button did you press to import the external kick sample? Even stepping through I couldn't see where your cursor was going. Please do not just assume that people can see minor but essential details in your method...
I had the same issue! I found out how you can do it by watching this video :ua-cam.com/video/tKX3DJOzcq0/v-deo.html
Basically crop and consolidate the sound you want in the DAW. Then right click and find it in browser so you open a window with it in your file explorer.
Now go back to kick2, and when you drag the sound file from the browser into the plugin window the click panel on the right will highlight. Which ever one you drop it into the click will be replaced with your file
Be nice to have an analyze feature.
Please compress you vocal recording a lot more, some massive fluctuations in this vid (eg after 6:57) ...otherwise great thanks!
DeltaUK_ yeah my bad.. I got told off by our editor for mumbling and not speaking in to the mic properly. He did his best with the sound. Sorry... will do better next time! I’m a bit rusty.. been a while since of done many tutorials.
Best tutorial i've seen in my life
I had Kick 2 in my plugins folder collecting dust... Wow, didn't know you could do that!
Thanks for the video!
I did not know plugins in their folder collect dust. You must have a hole in the computer... Chec the cover of the battery compartment.. you might have to change the rubber rings..
@@andreumateulamas Don't be a dick, bro. 😁
Simple as I’ve never thought! Thank you 😊
Great information, thank you for sharing
Would be great to be possible to design the waves a lot freely.
I mean, I'm trying to "mimic" a very simple real 808 short kick but it seems impossible.
The click (attack, snap, transient) area seem to understand that there demands tons of wave spikey cycles.
But the click from the 808 kick is simple, 2 almost rounded (curved) cicles, then it starts a way lower freq, as you may expect...
I'm really struggling to do that click...
And above that, if you try to look closer and start mimicking the kick, don't do that.
Because when you step back on zoom, man...
...all your work is lost...
Why don't they make a sound while they're adjusting? You wouldn't know the change in sound.
8:52 - mouse-wheel-click-and-hold to drag the viewport would be very useful (and best practice friendly)
Great tutorial mate :)
thats a nice technic
Thank you very much, this is a game changer...
“The gooey” 😂 saying the letters GUI is more known btw that just made me chuckle.
No it's not lol
Thank you. Great Turorial.
Quite useful, nice if automated in the future.
Great video bro... On this you actually can make your own 808 or regular kick. I've had this for years and still use it all the time.. It is the best to me without having an ILok... I've never downloaded any presets I make my own from scratch.. Try it you'll see after you get use to the parameters... Peace Stay Up
SFC!
Awesome, thanks!
This is golden! Thanks 🙏
Just bought Kick 2, one of the best vsts out there it's so good! People might say it's not one of the best but I make trance and techno and the kick is vital. Going through my sample library then messing around with effects and such is a big pain but this makes it so much easier to get a kick in tune and perfect for the track it's awesome.
Do you just use the default when making kicks for techno to start with or do you use the presets?
I haven't watched the video yet, but why copy it, when you can just cut and paste it? Surely it has the exact same result and saves time
You can create a new sub for that kick that will be in tune with your track, and also gives you massive control of length, pitch and mixing between click and sub.
@@sonicacademy good points
There are a lot of other artifacts along with the kick if you just copy it. Plus you can tweak this through synthesis which in most cases is a lot better than altering a baked waveform.
thx
👍
Way too much time wasting
10 mins of audio sculpting for the perfect kick you have in mind vs trawling thru endless folder of samples just to get distracted?
I'll waste my 10 minutes please! People spend more time than that watching videos on UA-cam and making negative comments 😂😜
Nice tutorial Phil!
