It's disappointing that all iRobot has mostly achieved with their consumer robotics section is the same old disk-like vacuum that's had mostly minuscule updates per iteration for the 17 years that they've been around since the first Roomba. The first robotic vacuum was developed in 1996 by Electrolux. It wasn't released until later, but it's a technology that has been around for longer than 2002, and a market that iRobot hasn't really expanded much from. That's a bummer with the potentials of robotics and what they could do for humans. Look at the innovation Boston Dynamics and Honda have brought about with their consumer robotics ventures. Sure it's neat that iRobot is expanding somewhat into different tasks/chores throughout a home, but frankly I'm just not impressed. A humanoid robot with the build of Honda's Asimo (which has now been decommissioned for a new innovative iteration) could do all the chores of iRobot's little bots such as mopping, vacuuming, and mowing, and could probably do the task better if it had the AI to do so. I don't think iRobot is building itself up for a very successful future by staying in such a niche market, and if they continue to remain a footnote in robotics evolution then I don't think they'll be able to survive the competitions' more advanced and capable models that we'll see leading up to the mid 2020's to 2030's. I hope I'm wrong, but their proliferation into consumer robotics seems tepid and lackluster at best to me.
Maybe they are just not able to advance much because making those products would make the consumer pay more? Also today this is the 3rd article I saw on irobots. Maybe they have garnered to do some publicity via these different sources.

Plus sometimes you ain’t got the time to wait for it to move so slowly. Hope this helps.

Being in love with your vacuum must be a Roomba thing, I took my Neato D5 back like ten times.
I have an idea, put a shell of R2-D2 on top of it. Of course it won't be able to go under chair and table, but it would look cool.
we named our robot Jerry. After Jerry from Parks and Rec. We love Jerry!
I just got one today, I am very excited to start using it.
I would not buy it, seems to take a long time and I doubt it is as effective as the Dyson that I have.
Also I advise them to make it have a remote control option, sometimes you want to vacuum only a specific area, how will the robot know what that is? Plus sometimes you ain’t got the time to wait for it to move so slowly. Hope this helps.
They already come with remotes for some years now. I got mine in 2013 and yes I can control it with a remote. Sometimes I manually control like a remote car just to clean specific spots.
ilene R ah okay, that’s good
It’s all very cool but data are they collecting on your house?
My xiaomi does all this for 150
issue, its xiaomi lmao
@@deancuban894 I fail to see your point, or is my vacuum giving my floor plans to the government and 3rd parties? Which technically is readily available in every country as building plans etc are stored at local councils
@@deancuban894 xiaomi makes excellent products.
Now that I think of it, it is basically a pet that cleans messes instead of makes messes
Isnt possible to find the floor plans of a house just online? And its super easy when a house is on sale... right? Or are those not "to the cm" accurate - but why would that matter to a human?
why does a robot vacuum cleaner be on the internet to start out with
Xiaomi robot vacuum is way better and a fraction of the price. Mine is called Doris.
Build it here I rather pay the extra cost
That's great you can afford the higher price, but all the people losing their jobs because of the tariffs won't be able to afford the higher cost.
Who is losing there job they don't make this stuff in US. Besides the company has money to take out an article in MSNBC, they can build this stuff here.
Privacy there, privacy here, everyone is concern about their privacy and yet every move they make they post it on social media. theres no need for tech companies to add backdoors etc. in its own tech, they'll just look at your facebook profile and know what, who you are. LOL
So the guy in the video complains that Roomba has been copied by competitors, but clearly shows us a copy of a Neato? Why not confess once and for all that you copied or bought the competitor's design? :(
