My uncle started working as a security guard in a Dell factory and he was intrigued and because obsessed with the computers. He then started learning about computing in his spare time and ended up getting promoted to the assembly line in the same factory. He then climbed the promotion ladders and ended up getting a mega promotion to a job in Texas. It really shows how you can start off small and follow your dreams.

That Computer is like 7 years old not really a proof that Dell is alive and well, In fact the point of this video is the PC market is declining, the fact that you're using a 7 year old machine is a great example of this, Dell's biggest focus these days is enterprise hardware not consumer PC.
I use many high-end Dell monitors, they are all exceptional. I still regard them highly, their customer service and warranty policies have all been great for me. They are still doing quite well in providing network servers and enterprise packages just not so much for PCs and laptops. I admire Michael Dell, he is a genius.

From my own experience along with my friends and workplace's experiences, I'd take HP or Dell over Lenovo or Acer any day especially in home PC's. Acer and Lenovo have much higher 3 year failure rates in the 2010's than Dell and HP. HP had a bad couple of years between 2007 and 2010 but they've turned around fast. I've had nothing but horrible experiences with Lenovo's home laptops and Acer products are very flimsy and bland even with their ultra-high end machines and not worth the price plus they need to fire their designers ASAP.

This doesn't make any sense. The recent XPS 15 and 13 have won a bunch of awards in the last 2 years. And Alienware (owned by Dell) looks like it's doing well with their new M series and Area 51M releases.
The main point is, it doesn't matter if you make the best hardware, if not enough people want to buy any computer in the first place. Combine that with a lot of debt, and investors become a bit scared.
Agreed. I’m actually considering buying the the m15 or the m17 at the moment. They seem very well built and reliable instead of having to deal with Razers customer service
The title of this video is terribly misleading. It presumes that because of the shift away from personal desktops to smartphones and virtual desktops and the cloud, Dell is on the decline. But anyone in IT could tell you that Dell is still doing pretty well. They’ve essentially cornered the enterprise market and their diverse portfolio means they’re sustainable. Nothing happened to Dell other than they’ve switched it up a bit to meet the demand of the consumer.
Dell was my first laptop in college and I had it for a good amount of time afterwards. I see them more for commercial use like libraries and schools but because they’re affordable I know consumers will still buy them.
My dell precision t3500 still works like a champ! Its old heavy Bulky Hard Reliable Easy to mantain Run fast Can play games Quiet And only cost me $25 at goodwill! This thing is bulletproof
The best. Also coming from an experienced hardware and software engineer that worked for another large vendor, a distributor, various partners and a small startup.
The first time I bought a Dell laptop was in 2005. When I finally had to replace it around 2013, I naturally got another Dell. It's not just that they're powerful and affordable, they are also durable. My laptops get regularly chucked in backpacks or carrying cases, shoved under the seat in airplanes, occasionally knocked to the ground by dogs, etc. - and no, I do not have the military spec models. Could I get an Acer for less? Maybe. Is it going to last me as long as a Dell? Not from what I've seen.
My very first desktop replacement was an Alienware before they merge with Dell. After the desktop replacement went to crap and not willing to invest more money into it, I went with my first Dell desktop pc, the Dell XPS 400, and this was during the merge between the two companies. Not a bad pc. The Dell pc was bought in 2002 and is still working to this day. It had it’s time, but I decided one day to build a new computer with a new tower, motherboard, etc. in order to keep up with more demanding games.
I dont think they will. They have become pioneers in providing computing solutions to large conglomerates, consumer products is not as critical to the bottom line as it uses to be
For more than a decade, a Dell laptop, bought in 2009 served me while running continuously on and on and on suffering the vagaries of Indian roads and environment. I love Dell!!
I still have two Dells. A Dimension E521 and an XPS M1530. Both still working pretty well after updating their HDDs to SSDs. Also love their older keyboards, I bought a whole bunch of them because they are so nice to type on and they are cheap

It gave them a lifeline...I'm just concerned with the debt that it came with..hope they'll be able to manage it.
I've been using a Dell monitor for 3 years. No complaints. A very well built piece of hardware with professional color accuracy and all ports necessary.
I watching this on my newest affordable, reliable, clean and beautiful Dell Laptop.
Come back in couple of months with an update on your newest, affordable, "reliable" and clean DELL laptop.

reliable wouldn't use that word, cheap yes

The video should be titled:
‘What the Hell.....happened to Dell?’

Or, "Dude, what happened to Dell?"
Pray tell, what happened to Dell?
I'm writing this comment on my DELL laptop. 😁
I'd also like to add the first computer I had at home when I was a kid was a Compaq.
Please keep it up CNBC. You guys have been posting some of the best and most informative videos on UA-cam
I have used Toshiba, Samsung, HP, Asus, and Dell laptops. Dell is the best through the ages.
Dell is still reliable and relevant today. Most laptops, computers and monitors used in the military are made by Dell, even in 2019.
Because it's old and run windows XP which is used by the government
Military buys the best of the worst so that isn't saying much
If it last through two deployments in Iraq, the equiptment is a go! Lol
They all run Windows 10 since 2 years ago.

I still have a dell laptop and it is at least 7 years old and is just fine. I also managed a site with well over 100 computers and Dell offered better support than most.
Our family first computer was a Hewlett-Packard or now H.P and it had Windows 98. Few years later I got my own Dell Dimension 3000 with XP for Christmas. It wasn't amazing but I loved it. Good memories
"Intel owns microprocessors" poor AMD got totally shafted.

ASUS says please consider their very capable PC computing products, particularly when you reach a point where you would like to purchase a newer laptop computer! What a beast. The 2010s turned out decent!
*ASUS and ASUS North America likely say please consider their very capable PC computing products, particularly when you reach a point where you would like to purchase a newer laptop computer!
Quality products and workmanship! I am impressed, and I probably never would have had any idea if my Dad had never chosen that laptop computer for me! I would very much recommend their computers to you, and also to other UA-cam users who are reading these comments, as well!

Still have a dell laptop I use for work. 10 years old and still chuggin. Dell's are well built and just won't die lol
I’ve owned Dell for more than 20 years since I switched from Compaq. To me Dell has always been a symbol of reliability. They have built total workhorse machines.
Dell has truly reinvented itself. Their linux support has made me a loyal customer.
Dell is the only company, that I know, that builds a reliable business pc
Amen. I don’t think I would use anything but a Dell for reliability
Hp was the only computers that I had at all my jobs.
My Dell Precision at my workplace does make problems, the newer generation of my colleague makes even more problems, regularly getting bluescreens. Never had problems like that with my ThinkPad Yoga.
Samuel Maier yes you are right since about a year or two we had tons of issues with dells lots of dead units and blue screens , we are considering moving to HP
you can do it also, 4 hrs, motherboard instruction manual, screwdriver, windows disk... I'm not kidding
Dell has focused too much on enterprises and less on consumers. it's probably why the average person doesn't know much about Dell these days.
That's true but unfortunately personal computers are down to mobile workers. And mobile phones are the top reason the average PC user stick with the modern amenities - for social media and games. But Dell is strong within the DC and Enterprise market. I compete with them daily. :)
I'd agree but it's also for the better Imo. The home PC is dying off, laptops are the thing as well as phones. Of course I'm not including gaming computers even though they're in that space too. Alienware I owned by Dell let's not forget.
same exact thing can be said for IBM
Consumers want simply sealed disposable gadgets. Dell doesn't do sealed or disposable, and neither do the IT professionals they cater to nowadays.
Dell focusing selling to companies. Many companies in Indonesia are using Dell Latitude as employees laptops.
In the tech community Dell is one of the best brand for laptops. Their xps lineup is fantastic!
Incredibly easy to repair too. Kudos to them
Don’t forget how dell likes to burn their bricks
Lenovo, apple and asus and arguably msi & razer are the best tech companies
brought a dell laptop had some issues with it(was over heating beyond measure reaching upto 100 degree while gaming) asked for support got the whole heatsink, fans and thermal paste replaced but it again started to heat after a week of good enough performance so i again contacted them and got a replacement without any issue (actually i was asking for repasting only (with a better paste) but the agent himself suggested me to go with the whole system replacement instead ) and now this new lappi that i received is amazing doesn't go even above 85 degree while stress testing and like near 75-80 degree while gaming .........this is far better than what i imagined..great after sale service...........loved them for that
Dell is doing great here in India. They are in the top 2 when it comes to laptops alongside HP and the number one when it comes to old school desktops. So I actually have no idea why would a video like "what happens to Dell" would be made in the first place.
Man love those 80s/90s computers and printers. Anybody remember the floppy disk? We had to have 12 of them to install Windows '95.
I remember the first version of Apple system 7 -- a major advance. Came in a package of around 12 floppies.
Dell makes great machines. Reliable, scalable and last. In my experience.
I that a joke ? the most unreliable laptops I ve ever used and work with. and with full of little great things like : planned obsolescence... the servers were amazing and really reliable though ! today I would always recommend dell servers and dell desktops.
Dell also makes great monitors, their monitors are well built, very solid.
Not a great experience across their low end products though, as with most brands
Mr Wrestling no I only talk about hardware... why do you think that the grill holes of the pro laptops are so tiny on the Dell laptops (for the fan) ? full of dust will stay inside = heating and burning the components after a few years. that is how a planned obsolescence work... Dell engineers have to find such little tricks (USA companies are kings in such fields).
I had a dell laptop and that thing lasted me 6-7 years!!
Me too
Billy Bob HP are the best in my opinion. All mine never failed. Just replaced
Bought mine in 2009, to travel abroad. Still works pretty fine tody, 2019... It just has a smaller screen and lacked a port it didn't even existed back then, so I bought an Asus.

I'm watching this from my Dell desktop Optiplex 3010.. Dell is alive and well ...
-Can Ameri- facts.
That Computer is like 7 years old not really a proof that Dell is alive and well, In fact the point of this video is the PC market is declining, the fact that you're using a 7 year old machine is a great example of this, Dell's biggest focus these days is enterprise hardware not consumer PC.
Compaq/COMPAQ: The largest PC manufacturer in the world until Dell Computers overtook the throne.

I use many high-end Dell monitors, they are all exceptional. I still regard them highly, their customer service and warranty policies have all been great for me.
They are still doing quite well in providing network servers and enterprise packages just not so much for PCs and laptops.
I admire Michael Dell, he is a genius.
I bought 3 laptops and a desktop pc from Dell in the past 12 years. I think I'm a pretty savvy shopper. Every time I go shopping and do comparison they always come on top in my list. And their PC's were always reliable so far. Dell is like Toyota in the pc world

Please please please save Dell... It is the most reliable computers that still exist.. my Toshiba & HP just work for 2years and then puuuff.. while my Dell almost 9years now, and still running..
Absolute TRUE!
I can related to this my cheap dell last longer than my asus laptop window 10 it only lasted for 3 year unlike my Dell last longer.
Dell xps line up is not very reliable, which is sad.
I was fixing my Dell e4200 laptop & was thinking where's Dell now. The e4200 is an incredible future proof item which is 13 years old and still usable.
I have a Dell for work. It’s trash. Their batteries burst on each one of my teammates computers, including my own. Now I have a new one and it’s ok but my team is still complaining about other issues. I’m thinking we might have a recalled model and our company got them dirt cheap which is why they refuse to switch brands. 🙄

HP is unreliable af when it comes to post sales service.
Would buy a thinkpad over a dell, but then, I wouldn't buy a new thinkpad but an old used one because they're now soldering everything they can onto the board. No more upgradability.
asus is best from experience
From my own experience along with my friends and workplace's experiences, I'd take HP or Dell over Lenovo or Acer any day especially in home PC's. Acer and Lenovo have much higher 3 year failure rates in the 2010's than Dell and HP. HP had a bad couple of years between 2007 and 2010 but they've turned around fast. I've had nothing but horrible experiences with Lenovo's home laptops and Acer products are very flimsy and bland even with their ultra-high end machines and not worth the price plus they need to fire their designers ASAP.

My first lap top it was a dell i used every day for about 10 years then y purchased other dell and i have like 5 years with it using it every day and runs like new.
I used to be a Dell tech support way back in 2012 and now Im watching this now with my refurbished i5 DELL Latitude laptop which I have since 2018.

Dell is actually one of the best in the world, this is coming from an experienced software eng!
The best. Also coming from an experienced hardware and software engineer that worked for another large vendor, a distributor, various partners and a small startup.
In the last years I had Asus, MSI, HP and Dell Laptops and by far Dell has been the most reliable.
HP is the best
Dell offers powerful _and_ affordable laptops. I like their ecosystem.
Actually, there are more powerful and affordable brands than Dell.. Dell is not competitive enough
Ever heard of Acer ?
stelity Such as what? I’m in the market for a new laptop and I need to know the best brands to look at
The first time I bought a Dell laptop was in 2005.
Pradip Dhakal never getting an Acer ever again! - bad experience with them
My very first desktop replacement was an Alienware before they merge with Dell.
I worked for dell for 17 years and found they were a great company to work for.
I hope they wont shutdown consumer pc hardware section. I think dell PCs always stand in front of the competition. Also their prices are competitive.
I dont think they will. They have become pioneers in providing computing solutions to large conglomerates, consumer products is not as critical to the bottom line as it uses to be

I still have two Dells. A Dimension E521 and an XPS M1530. Both still working pretty well after updating their HDDs to SSDs. Also love their older keyboards, I bought a whole bunch of them because they are so nice to type on and they are cheap
Agreed. Dell keyboards from the end of the cream-colored computer era to the first 5 yrs or so of the black-colored era are superb and built like tanks. I'm sure my fingers will break before my old Dell keyboards will.

@@The442Cutlass he said 2012-2018, it was already on 6 yrs and could have lasted much more if it wasnt because if the accidental damaged...u have no idea what u are talking
Still one of the most trusted brand in ny country
Reason for Dells success - quality control. In a highly competitive market, other computer companies made stuff that had problems, got a bad rep, then went out of business.
Computer hardware business is going south, hopefully dell survives.
