Thanks Lynette. I'm an 18 year old guy that lives home alone because my parents went out of the country for a month. My washing machine smelled like eggs after I forgot to remove clothes from it for about a week. I'm learning a lot about house maintenance lol
💕
Wow eggs? Lol
I use vinegar and baking soda to clean so many things but never thought to use it in my washing machine. Thanks! New subscriber.
So glad I found this particular video you made. Never thought about cleaning inside where the detergent goes. Mine was DISGUSTING. It's much better now and so I am on to cleaning the area around the drum.
Lynn I just wanted to let You know how much I love watching Your videos. My favorite video is when you explained the "Plan of Salvation " I respect You so much for sharing our faith. Sweet Lady if You are ever in Arkansas You and Your family are always welcome at the farm.
I use vinegar and baking soda and put them in main wash or pre treaters compartment. It cleans my clothes, acts as softener and also I use less detergent. Also cleans the washing machine. Before using them, i use to get a funky smell when opening the drain below. But now i don't get any and don't have any 'suds'.
I love this channel! I would love to see you do some more videos like this on clever ways to clean around the house and I'd also like to see maybe a what I eat in a day video or something similar? I would love for you to share some of your favorite recipes!
I have cleaned mine with vinegar for a couple years now, but I had never heard the baking soda part! What a great idea. Thanks for sharing!
I've cleaned my refrigerator with baking soda water,, because it's a gentle cleaner.
Oh, thank you so very much!! I learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I'm sure it's helped many others. I'm new to you and I'm going to subscribe to your channel. Again great job explaing this to me and others.
Excellent video! You can use the same steps to clean your dishwasher as well. Don’t forget to clean your filters!
I've been trying to figure out how to clean mine for so long now!
Thanks for the video that shows exactly what you did ! appreciate it !
I need to clean mine. We just got a top loader about 2 months ago, but I need to stay ahead of it
This is a great DIY method!
I'm so trying this method, thank you so much
Thanks for the info. I use vinager and or baking soda for a lot of things. Just discovered water and vinager work great on Windows
Thanks for sharing this way to clean my washer. I don’t have to buy an expensive product with even more packaging! I’m subscribing to your channel. 57 and still learning new tricks!
Thank you for these steps. I am experience an odor in my machine and was looking for something to clean the machine. THX! iI'm running my 1st cycle as we speak.
I use this method when I need to clean mine, and also May I mention the doors to your machine are switchable as to how they swing, the washer door can open the opposite side so when you are needing to put clothes in the dryer you don't have to over reach, it is a simple fix. thanks for the video
Great vlog. Just of to clean my my washing machine!
Dawn dish soap works great as well, especially for removing oil or grease.
Thank you for your wonderful tips!
Such a wonderful idea to put the soap powder dispenser in the dish washer. I have always found this to be a fiddly job, will certainly try this. Thank you.
I was wondering how to clean our washer--thanks Lyn! I want to try this today! We have a hard water problem, so I'm sure the vinegar will help a lot.
Tawny Tuppence Oooh hard water can be a pain. My parents house has well water and it's hard to keep things clean at times! Or keep it from turning things orange 😬
Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you for showing us how to clean our washers you always give me the boost I need to do get started
john martin you're welcome! And thanks !
I had been looking for something like this my washer was so gross especially that rubber part tfs
Thank you very much ! I am going out on black Friday and buying the baking soda and white vinegar to do this !
Thank you for the tips

I am going to clean my washer .. I like tips .. and I like your channel xo
Thanks for the tips!
Great idea 💡 I'm going to do this! Thanks for sharing!!!👍
Brenda Tate You're welcome! 😊
Liked the video very much. Thank you ! 👍😊❤️
Thanks for the tips, used to use that store product for like $9, but this so much cheaper, didn't know about baking soda, just used to use bleach.
How often would recommend doing this?
Love your vids
hello would it work with cold water? cause that's my only option on my washer machine
Thanks for those great tips Lynette. I use Affresh tablets, but they tend to be pricey and you only get 3 in the pack. I'm going to try using your suggestions on my front loader. Thank you so much for sharing! :)
Sandra - did you try her method? If so, how did it compare to the tablets? Thanks!!!
Good to know and I love cleaning with basic baking soda and vinegar.😊
I am really loving your videos Lynette WTG 😊
Lori Carter Thank you!!
I've never cleaned the dispenser part. Thanks for the tips!!❤️
Suzi Schwabe You're welcome!
Thanks for keeping it real.
Maybe its a problem with the expensive front loaders. I have a very basic top loading washer that I have never had these problems with. I've had it for 7 years, no issues. I do keep the top open for a while after doing a wash.
I have a top loader and I don’t use the fabric softener dispenser, I use a Downy ball for my Snuggle Fabric Softner, and I am wondering how I can get that thing clean? It is really terrible. I just throw my bleach dispenser in the washer if I use bleach for a load. Looks like I need to work on my washer.
What is the frequency to clean washing machine which run average once in a day?
I found your channel today from your comment which you left for one of Mary's White Cottage Co., videos. Great tips about cleaning the washer with baking soda 1st then vinegar 2nd. I normally use those expensive 'Affresh' tablets you had mentioned & I'd like to save money by doing it your way instead!
Thank you so much.
Good to know!
So need. to do this. I also have to pull the washer and dryer out from the wall and clean that. Linton build up is a major fire hazard.
You’re awesome best tip ever
Thanks Lynette I love to idea of sticking the dispenser in the dishwasher. I cleaned my wash last week and wow the dirt that gathers in the ring. Love you videos!
Edith Martin Thanks!! I know it's so gross! I need to do mine more often!
CN you clean the bottom filter too?
My front loader has a trap and tiny house to drain under the drum. It smells like stagnant water. I clean it as often as possible, like once a month. That might help you if your washer still smells after doing your recommendation.
thank you for the tips ( Judy )
Lynette...Do you run a full cycle...including rinse and spin
How often do you clean the washer?
I soooooooo need to do this!!!!
Katie Sottile 😄 👍🏽
What do you put on cloth for the rubber ring around the door area?does it need vinegar too or not?
I’m sure you could..
20 years ago I found a new cleanser (spray bottle) in the supermarket. It was lemon juice and baking soda. Those were the only ingredients. That stuff rocked! Guess what? Never saw it again. Ever. Anywhere. All I can think is that the Big Guys bought out the company so they could keep selling their super expensive, stenchy chemical cleaning products. Now I make my own.
There was no lemon juice or baking soda in there because they reacted to produce sodium citrate.
I work with steel and rust inhibitors that are very oily.
I don't want my regular clothes getting ruined.
Will this help to get oily stuff out of the washer?
Someone said in another comment that (blue) Dawn dishwashing liquid is great for removing the grease & oil. (I did not read any details, though, whether they were referring to the machine or the clothing! Sorry.)
It's not a problem with front loaders only. It happens with the top loaders too. The reason for this is there is not enough water going through the high efficiency machines (both Front and top loaders) because they are supposed to use less water! I guess when the machines were designed, they failed to test them properly and we now have to buy additional products to solve their problems. Good luck!
Thank you 🧼
Try also keeping the dispenser tray pulled open a bit; it will definitely cut down on moisture and odour.
duncandy oh yes!! That's a very good idea!! Thanks!
You're welcome. =) Please, let me know if you notice a difference if you decide to try this tip! The "science" behind it is that there will be continuous air flow.
Just opened it, thank you! 😃
I also pop open the soap dispenser drawer, so that air out, too. I forgot to do that a few times, and there is mold there now. Whoops!
Soak a couple towels in vinegar and put it in the rubber seal and let is soak for 1 hour and it is a lot easier to clean
Great tips TFS, and enjoy your weekend 👍🏻👍🏻💜🦋🎼🐊🕊🐇🐰🥚🐣
If I do this and there’s still some kind of smell what do you recommend too do
There is a product called Affresh that is very effective. Also, you can try putting some bleach down the drain pipe where the water empties into--that can actually be where the smell is coming from.
I got rid of my front loader because of the smell. Pretty sure it was from the seal but despite cleaning after every load the smell remained.
Hi Lynette. This was awesome and thank you very much for sharing. Do you have any ways to clean/degrease oven?
Pineapple Lemonade Well I have thought about doing a video sometime. But I have used an oven cleaner but it's not a natural type cleaner obviously. It does the trick tho. Plus a magic eraser works pretty good for certain things..
Lynette Yoder Thanks so much, Lynette! I'm going to try the magic eraser!
Great tips, Lynette. Do you clean the washer a couple times a year, or every season or monthly?
+Sally Croft I don't do it as often as I should 😉. I would say I should do it every 6 months or so. But it goes longer than that at times. But it probably depends a bit how your water is.. and how dirty the machine gets.. I know that if I wipe it out on a regular basis - like even once a week it wouldn't get very dirty at all.
I never realised washing machines could get so dirty (until I checked out my own). Thanks for good advice Lynette
Hi, I have the same washer and dryer and my washer’s knob also had broken. I ordered it from sears if you were interested :)
+sabrina drago Awesome!! Thanks!
Thanks!
How often should we do this?
I Remove the soap, bleach drawer from my front loader after each wash. I turn it over on a towel on top of my washer. Also, I stopped using softener in my front loader and only use softener sheets in my dryer.
Good tips!!
U need to add water when using baking soda and white vinegar?
No I didn’t recall that you do. Since there’s water when you run it
Is it ok to use the baking soda from the fridge? I was thinking of trying to get a second use out of the used baking soda I have in the fridge to reduce odors in the fridge.
I’m not sure really! 😄 you could try it..
deguzmanaaron
That was a clever marketing idea by A&H. Put an open box in there, then in a month dump it down the drain. Brilliant way to create demand, all based on their hype about it eliminating odors.
What size load
Any ideas for cleaning the dryer?
Carmen Martinez not necessarily besides Cleaning the inside of where the lint holder is- you can use a swiffer or something with a stick to try and reach down in there.. or maybe you're vacuum. ? I should do that more often. I know it's a good idea to clean your vents as well ..
Thank you
you said Wonky, I subscribed 😄
Ive subscribed... your vid is perfect. Will do this asap
Does cleaning this way also helps in reducing lint and white mark on the clothes ?
Not sure? I haven’t really had those issues..? I would think lint would come more from a dryer than washer perhaps?
hmm .. I have a top load washing machine. Don't they have the same tub , or is there anyway dryer be cleaned ?
No the dryer is a bit bigger inside and there’s a lint trap - but I think I may not quite be understanding your question 😬😄
no issues ..
If you have white mark on your clothes, it means you're using too much detergent. If you're using powdered, it might not dissolve. High efficiency washing machines need to use less. Also check the HE lable on your detergent.
I am having a terrible time cleaning the mold off on the rubber seal! Any recommendations?
No unfortunately I have that too ..🤷🏻♀️
I have literally stuffed a towel into the ridges of the seal and soaked it with bleach, left it there for several hours, then used the towel (now deteriorated) to rub around the top ridge and between seal & drum. It helped, but DID NOT kill the mold. I read recently that undiluted white vinegar will KILL MOLD in porous plastic (let it sit/soak for at least an hour), whereas bleach will only kill mold on the surface of same plastic. I am going to try the vinegar tomorrow in my front loader's seal. (After that, I plan to sprinkle in some baking soda and scrub around the same areas.)
I have read. Borax dissolved in water and used to clean with helps to kill the mold spores
Why do you have mold on the seal?
Use finish dishwasher detergent on hot wash clean around door seal and your done 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Baking Soda is all-natural?
If put ginger baking soda does this mater
phyllis Weatherhead 😬 Not sure 🤔
To my recollection, my mother never washed out her washing machine! I have recently heard about this and ordered Affresh, but when it's gone, I will be using vinegar and baking soda. Thanks for teaching me this important fact about cleaning my washer! :)
I don't recall that my mother or grandmother ever needed to wash out their machines, either, HOWEVER, appliances are no longer made to LAST anymore! And, as someone else said; they now seem to need all sorts of expensive chemical products to keep them operating better! I usually use a Reffresh tablet once a month, then wipe the drum and door as per instructions. But unfortunately, it DOES NOT seem to help at all with the mold that grows in the door seal.
Thanks so much! Those Affresh tablets are sooooo expensive. I had to stop buying them. Thanks for an alternative.
I use vinegar and baking soda when washing my towels so am I cheating the system??? Lol! That would be great!
I think so 😊.
Thank you sister came across this morning. 👍 infor
Can you help ? Can I use baking powder or bicarbonate soda ? I am so confused
Bicarbonate soda is the same thing as baking soda
Naomi Shirk thank you
What is that white thing on the top of your head its pretty
It’s a head covering ☺️
👍
There is a Windex 99.9% cleaning spray. So I clean my counters & when there is the last part left in the spray bottle I clean the washer with it, & when the dishwasher worked I'd clean it too with the Windex liquid cleaner.
We don't know why the dishwasher stopped working.
I also leave the dispenser drawer open to dry out.
patricia ney Good idea!!
I believe it's too much baking soda. Why did you separate the vinegar and baking soda? Combining them I think makes the baking soda clean more
I would like to know how to clean the garbage disposal Joann St Louis
You can put some lemon slices in there and let it clean away!
How strong is your vinegar? I mean do you see how many procent?
5% acidity is all you need. And you don't need fancy apple cider vinegar. Vinegar made from corn is great.
How long is each cylcle?
superlauch25 close to an hour?
Lynette Yoder I’m just making sure
I would be concerned that the vinegar would eat the rubber hoses inside the machine. Every youtube video says to use vinegar. It's like everyone copies each other lol but it's all good.
Oh, wow. I was always taught to use bleach in it once a month 😂 I'm going to try this way now!
☺️👍🏽 I’m not an expert tho!
