I like this movie's more realistic message: sometimes, no matter how much you work for it, your life project just won't go as you planned it. And that's okay.
7:50 that's a reference to Boo in the first movie! Her file says she's afraid of snakes. That's why Randall was her monster. And when she saw Sulley roar, she cried instead of screaming.
This movie was such a perfect backstory on how Mike and Sully meant and were able to become successful even if they didn't complete they still went strong on getting a career. had a great message in the movie.
I love how when OK won the last Scare Games test, Hardscrabble was almost unimpressed about it. But when Mike and Sully literally made the door blow up by scaring a lot of adults, she was genuinely speechless. She knows true potential when she sees it.
You would think that she would figure out that they somehow cheated though. But she seems shocked, which has me realizing, “Yeah, what took you so long?”.
You mean, being bored out of you're life like Mike in Can Design, trying to join a frat/sorority (except that goes downhill), or realizing how sometimes not everything needs a degree?
I relate to Mike in this film very much. When pursuing my goal of becoming an animator via college, I was told that I wouldn’t be able to succeed in earning my bachelor’s degree, by the dean no less. After getting my AA and transferring to another school, I built myself up through many endeavors and earned my BA as Summa Cum Laude, thus proving that I have succeeded!
This movie came out when I was in middle school and I remember really liking it, but when I watched it again like right after high school the argument/discussion with Mike and Sully in the human world hit HARD. It's got such important lines in it that really need to be heard by so many people. Another awesome reaction M.I.D.!!
4:25 Professor Knight is voiced by Alfred Molina(Doc Ock) 6:47 I do appreciate that ROR actually does value good grades and it's not just partying for them.
I really like how this adds more weight to Mike taking over the energy generating at the end of the original. He's not scary, but he can make kids laugh, and it turns out that's worth more.
I really love the message of this film where there's always another path to your career if you can't get the one you'd want. For me, I want to become a film director, but if I don't have the skills for that, then I can find something else I can do, like camera work or editing.
@@batmanvsjoker7725 You and me both! Because of my love for movies, It's also why I have been watching and commenting on many reaction channels in the last year, so I can give my personal opinion on whatever movie they react to!
My favorite fun fact is that Squishee is voiced by the same dude who voiced Sox in Lightyear, Miles' roommate in Across the Spider-Verse and directed The Good Dinosaur and Elemental
This movie is soooooo underrated. It's along the same vein as Soul, when they remind you just because your life doesn't go the way you planned, doesn’t make everything you went through is worthless.
I always love trying to find out what movie Pixar might have based their movies on. Monsters University is very much Animal House coded, with some Revenge of the Nerds sprinkled in. Cars is Doc Hollywood. And A Bug's Life has some Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven influence.

The camp kids are way braver than I was a child. Cuz if I see a one-eyed, talking green ball with legs, it's not that scary, but I would definitely freak out.
Are you planning on doing Hotel Transylvania 2? The third and fourth ones weren't that good, but the second one was decent, though not as great as the first. 🧡
@@MoviesinDepthOoh, if you're taking recommendations for Spooktober, already, then I'd like to add Ghost (1990), Final Destination (2000) and Happy Death Day (2017) to the list. 😉

I still don't understand how they (Mike and Sully) don't talk about their time at college especially in the human world in the origional monsters inc., maybe they were sworn to secrecy after but they still should have hinted at it or I would have liked the Head of the monster protection agency that was undercover at monsters inc to make some sort of quip about the insident like how she made the connection between the two (kinda like in harry potter how Maggie Smith says "Whenever anything happens why is it always you three?) Something along these lines would have been cool
I feel so old, this movie came out 10 years ago. I remember seeing this in the drive in. Now I’m 18 and just graduated high school. 21:45 good point, the reason why they added him was because they needed John Ratzenburger to play a part 😂
I prefer this by far over MInc. A message like this is so rare in the animated kids/family genre: You might not be able to achieve your dreams, but if you fail you can still find a way to live a satisfying life that suits you. The boiling water that hardens the egg softens the potato.
the only issue i have about this continuity wise is the mere fact that mike said that they knew each other since the fourth grade in movie one ("you've been jealous of my looks since the fourth grade, pal") but for some odd reason they met in university. also if my college experience isn't like this then i don't want it (im literally leaving in a week)
Same! It’s one of my fave Pixar movies. I consider it a unique story compared to the common type of “if you push yourself hard enough you can succeed at literally anything”.
I love this movie! All other stories go and achieve your dreams no matter the odds. But this movie is really the only one like If you don’t achieve your dreams that’s ok, and it’s ok to give up when you know it’s not within your ability to do so, and probably healthier. The point is that it’s ok to fail, and it’s not the end of the world. Mike is not a scarer but a great coach and leader. I saw one video on here that this movie could be used as a good allegory for disability, and as an autistic person I completely agree.
