    Sorry I cannot watch this channel anymore, this episode reminded me of the RIAA.
    I saw a video where a guy cut the top off a K2.0 cup, and used a thin rubber band to put it on top of the old Kcup. Same with the carafe pot. Pretty simple really, and not time consuming really.
    I mix yuban oragnic and various flavored teas and coffee's!
    This new system is not friendly, removes choice and has raised the cost due to DRM tech.

    Dude here is the problem, I just wanted the older Keurig coffee makers to safe money with the My K Cup. But in my area all they are selling now is the New 2.0. So with a little hot glue every other month so I can use a My K Cup. And in regards of warranty all the ways I have fund to bypass the "DRM" does not effect the Coffeemaker it's self. So how could they find out your using a NON 2.0 Cup? Unless you have a issue of telling everyone everything and you tell Keurig you used a non 2.0 cup. They cannot find out.

    Thanks for the video - I had never seen your website before now.
    A few thoughts:
    1) Someone else said it - holy constant panning, Batman!
    2) Keurig has a long-time relationship with Costco, and I believe other membership warehouses. For Costco members, it makes sense to buy the Keurig and then "trick" the sensor if necessary. Buying through Costco, you usually get a generous sample pack of K-cups and sometimes extra accessories with the Costco-sold packaging, and at a cheaper price than most other places. And Costco's return policy is "if it breaks, bring it back - no time limit". The catch is they don't usually sell anything but Keurig machines for single-serve coffee. So...in this case, it does make sense to buy the Keurig and deal with tricking the sensor, rather than buying a 3rd-party k-cup compatible machine.

    Yes, crazy. Spoken like a Keurig rep. This is not helpful at all. The workaround hack took me 2 minutes to do initially, and now I can use my large stock of k-cups that otherwise wouldn't work anymore. No, it won't break my machine. No, I'm not worried about voiding my warranty. No, the coffee doesn't taste any different than it did before.

      We appreciate your comment. Also I think you need to watch video one more time thought :). We are not affiliated with Keurig and if you watch video to the end you'll actually see that we don't recommend Keurig 2.0 if you don't like this restrictions. You can hack Keurig 2.0 but why just don't buy a brewer which will do everything for you without hacking? Like BUNN MCU or something else? Hope this works for you. Enjoy your cup, www.aromacup.com.

  • @shaneskysarah

    You are not crazy. The main reason for the DRM is not to block out the unlicensed K-cup. It is there because Keurig wants to ensure the beverage of your choice will be brewed exactly the same each time.They spent a lot of time on the brewers' consistency so that consumers can have the best experience. The second reason is that sometimes, the unlicensed K-cups can damage the brewer because they don't have the right design. When this happen, the customers wouldn't go to the company which they bought the unlicensed k-cups for help, they will go to Keurig and say "my brewer is not working". So it becomes Keurig's problem.
    Brian, you are definitely right about why it's a bad idea to bypass the technology. After all, the technology there is to make the consumers' life easier.

      shaneskysarah, you can rest assured that Keurig's number 1 reason was DRM protection. Licensing and royalties represent a tremendous profit stream that Keurig is protecting with DRM. Now that they have expanded their premium coffee partners beyond Starbucks (Peet's, etc.), they have a good chance at success with the 2.0 DRM machine.

    • @CJNeuls
      @CJNeuls 10 років тому +6

      Shaneskysarah, I could not disagree more! these greedy bastards did this for one reason and one reason only!! Money! Keurig recognizes how much money others are making on their idea, which was the original intent of their machines, to capture an audience and be the sole supplier of their product. Don't be naive enough to believe a company is in business to do anything but increase profits, not supply and "experience".

    • @johnlynch1827
      @johnlynch1827 9 років тому +2

      that is the most Bullshit reason ... they didn't need to make the new machine "reject" the old coffee pods .... the consumer could have made the decision .. if the "new" technology offered a better cup of coffee ... the consumer would buy the new product without hesitation .....

    • @byronhopp1
      @byronhopp1 9 років тому +2

      John Lynch Yes, this reminds me of the personal computer printer industry. They now sell ink jet printers at a reduced price, and far exceed the profits by increasing the price of the ink cartridges that are the only ones to work in their printers. At lease Keurig could sell the coffee systems at a reduced price, and then overcharge me for the coffee. Tease me a little before you screw me. This change is not about quality, it is not about warranty, this change is a money grab.

    One of the solutions is to get another coffee maker for your old cups? Or keep your old one around? I'm fairly ticked at Keurig about this, but, of course, it is mentioned on the box .... waaaaaay at the bottom .... that it only uses Keurig brand pods.
    Not a good trade just to have a color display and a clock. The fixes just aren't that time-consuming. When this one dies, I may go back to an old school percolator!

  • @WOLead
    @WOLead 10 років тому

    Question/Idea:
    What if you nabbed the K2V adapter from the Vue machine and taped the green foil dot from the K-Carafe/Vue packs to its side?
    You should then be able to brew your own Coffee/Tea via the filter and brew any K-Cup (WITH the K-Carafe/Vue settings at THAT) with minimal fuss. You'll need fold the dot up when inserting a K-cup/filter, then back down afterwards when inserting it, but the benefits just might out weigh the annoyance.

    aromacup.com, I agree with you and I think you are right why go threw the trouble to get the 2.0 to work with the old K cups when you can still buy the older machine and use any k cup you like with out any trouble just as you stated. Then Keurig will be forced to make the 2.0 compatible or loose money because of low sells or no sells of the 2.0, but if people keep buying the 2.0 and do the work a round then Keurig wins.
    We got to hit them in their packet and not support something like the 2.0.

    Here is my dilemma. I had a VUE brewer that stopped working 6 months in while still under warranty. The company is making good on the warranty, but they are replacing it with a new 400 series 2.0 brewer which will render my San Francisco Bay and other cups useless. So now I'm basically forced to buy the new ones as I just purchased the VUE brewer (which I loved) 6 months ago...what a shame.

    Let me get this straight... coffee makers now have version numbers (2.0)? And I have to be sure that the coffee I am buying is compatible with the version number of my coffee maker? I hope this is just a joke.
    What happens if I upgrade? Will my coffee maker be backwards compatible with my coffee? Does the 2.0 fix all the leaking issues with the 1.0? Should I get the 2.0 or wait for Keurig XP to come out next month?

      Samantha Elkins: A refillable basket for the carafe like a reusable and washable type of filter? Now that I know how to hack the 2.0 especially so that I could use my reusable and washable K-Cup filer this is the only thing preventing me from buying a 2.0 since my whole family gets busy and we forget to buy K-Cups a lot of times so we just use a reusable filter and loose ground coffee. Otherwise if we need to make more than one cup at the same time we just use our traditional coffee brewer which is usually every morning.I don't know why people haven't make a reusable and washable filter for the carafe yet when it's obvious to almost all the people who know about Keurig how to hack the 2.0 because for sure they really would earn a lot of money from that.

    So how much did Keurig pay you to do this youtube video? That system is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen. They want to sell [overpriced] coffee maker and overpriced cups that go with it... call me silly but people do NOT like being told what they can and can't do with something they buy and own... idiotic. I'd just move to a different company... simple.

      "Its inconvenient and time consuming!" Pfft. Maybe Once, but once you do it, you don't have to do it again. I have an older machine right now. If I have to get a new one, I'll be bypassing the sensor so I can use it the way I WANT to use it. My Microwave doesn't tell me I can only use Stouffer's, my fridge doesn't tell me I can only keep Coke in it, and my car doesn't only accept BP gasoline. The coffee machine shouldn't tell me I can only use brand X coffee. This is why I stopped buying music and only copy it now. Enough with "rights management"... very greedy and underhanded, Keurig!

  • @neveahrobaut9133
    @neveahrobaut9133 10 років тому +4

    Wow, none of your reasons make sense. Reason 1 (takes too much time): There's a very simple 1-time fix and forget it that takes very little time. No need to fondle with every "old" cup. Reason 2 (Warranty): Whoa, my 1 piece of tape will void my warranty? I seriously doubt it. Reason 3 (not getting a great cup/special selections numbers): "Fixing" your machine still offers you these options. In fact, by design, some packs will choose these settings for you, but a "fixed" machine will offer you options -- a plus in my book. Reason 4/side note (choose the right machine): The only selling point of the version 2.0 is that it will take all kinds of packs. How does it make any sense to keep 4 or 5 coffee machines on hand?

    • @AromacupCoffee
      @AromacupCoffee  10 років тому +1

      Thanks for sharing :). What make sense is to buy the Brewer which serve your needs :). If you happy with it then keep it. We thinks it's great brewer but restriction is not great. So if you want to use Non-Keurig K-Cups or make your own coffee with Keurig 2.0 yes you can hack it or simply buy another brewer which will do all of that. You don't buy Semi truck to drive to work or do you? Enjoy your cup, www.aromacup.com

      Single Serve Coffee Maker Reviews - Aromacup.com
      You're right... and I think for most people that buy the 2.0, the need to brew different Keurig sizes but only have 1 machine on their counter is the "need" that it serves. The fact that the design doesn't permit to brew your own brand, or use old cups is a limitation that wasn't anticipated... unless of course, you've been watching these videos ;)

In fact Keurig don't like some of our reviews and videos :) But our goal is to educate consumers so they spend they money wisely. At same time we hope that Keurig will listen customers and give them what they really want. I personally see this as opportunity for other companies to jump and make coffee makers which will answer needs for consumers. I have close to $100.00 in coffee that will be unusable in this machine. The machine was sent as a replacement by them. It was their choice of a machine for me, not mine. Please... There are lots of people who have SUV because they want the off road or snow option but don't go off road all that often - they just don't want to get stuck. Like me with this machine. We want options. Here is a almost permeant hack that takes 2 seconds and will do no damage. If you do have an issue and need a warranty, take the magnet out.
    As for DRM they almost always ONLY befit the person or company who made software. Get the stinking lawyers out of my cup!

    I was really excited about this machine when I first heard about it. But really why would you want to brew a pot if you got it for a single cup in the first place? Also whats up with the DRM?? are they afraid im going to buy pirated coffee?! Geeze... I bought a k cup system and liked it so much I went and got the rivo system. I really liked my first and second machines so much that I was thinking about getting this machine, I truley belive in brand loyalty but the DRM really turned me off... looks like I might look into another brand for my single cup coffe maker. @Kuerig.

      You want to look for a Black Rectangular Shaped Sign with a check mark on the box. It is usually near the bottom of the box. If you read the text on that sign it will tell you that it is compatible with 2.0. Those boxes with the Black sign are 2.0 compatible; those that do not have the sign are not 2.0 compatible. Simple as that.

    Fact’s are is their should be Warring on the box saying you can’t use your older K-Cups or brew your own coffee. This 2.0 brewer is intently limited by design forcing you to buy only Keurig products. Got one from Costco this week and it’s going back. Keurig’s philosophy trying to trap you in buying only “authorized” K-Cups will backfire because it limits choice, flexibility and burns currant owners who have older style K-Cups. This will be an epic flop!

      I agree Chris. The title was misleading. It's also not very time consuming to hack it once and use what ever K-cups you want. But the small positive at the end was showing a machine by Bunn that uses any K-cup.
