You are a hero in my book! My daughter came home for the holiday and wanted some Lemon Zinger Tea. I found that my Keurig wouldn't allow that pod to work. We tried another tea and got the same error message. Frustrated, I googled for ideas and found your video. My hubby bought mine last year for Christmas so I figured I would take the risk since the warranty is almost up. Followed your instructions and within about 10 minutes, I brewed my Lemon Zinger Tea! Thanks so much for posting this. It's obvious you have helped a ton of people. If you watched this video and fixed your Keurig, make sure you give him a thumbs up too!
Had my first Oops with a large K-cup pack that came with this machine. Right when I wanted to brew extra cups for my guests. Ooops? I call the number that was shown on the machine, the gentleman was more concerned with me not registering my coffee pot than the problem of the machine and pod they sold me. He said the only fix was he could send me a replacement pod. As though that would help me with my guests tonight. Thank you sir for this fix, Keurig told me there was nothing they could do. Can you imagine, corporate America lying to me? LOL
my elderly parents love their keurig but have been having trouble brewing keurig pods from older lots, this vid summed the fix up in a succinct and easily relate-able manner for them, now they can brew what ever pods they want, plus my dad gets a kick out of rebelling against proprietary BS
You have just made my entire year with this video! I can't wait to do this at home and be able to brew ANY coffee that I want. The K-Cups are too expensive, especially for the quality!
I work for keurig and I just want you to know I did this exact trick 10 minutes after we received our first office brewer before they hit the market. I now keep a spare lid on hand for this reason. Especially since they don't stock us with 2.0 kcups, but they gave us a 2.0 brewer. Glad to see there's other people out there with enough common sense to figure out how to bypass this. I hope this comment doesn't buy me a ticket out the door haha.
I have been bashing my head against the wall trying to figure this out, LOL! Sometimes I over think things, and overlook the obvious... Thanks!!! 10,000,000 stars!!!
Just uploaded a much easier permanent fix that allows all including the carafe. Simply take the top you cut pull the rubber grommet down that is on the needle. Place used top up the needle using original puncture hole. Replace rubber grommet and your permanent fix is completed. Seriously its truly that simple. No tape, no epoxy and doesn't void warranty. Enjoy
Our old Keurig died and we got credit toward a new 2.0. We found out all our non-Keurig cups wouldn't work. The wife was just ready to throw out about 30 off brand cups and I ran into this hack. It works great and saved me about $15.00.
Had no idea this was even an issue. I own a Mr. Coffee Brewer licensed by Keurig, so ALL cups work in it-Old & New Keurig, store brands, off brands. Sad day when we have to hack into a coffee machine! I'm warning all my friends who are thinking of buying a K-Cup brewer to AVOID THE 2.0! Great video, & the background music adds charm. I encourage all to post a link to this on Keurig's Facebook page!
such an awesome video. I just got a new 2.0 only to realize that the boxes of kcups I had already purchased wouldn't work. Thanks for posting this. STICK IT TO THE MAN!
Just found this video today! Tried to give my dad some of my old reusable keurig cups and they didn't work! I was so bumped and decided to google whether there was a hack. WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! We had a great laugh too, thank you!
Woot! Woot! That monstrosity has been sitting on my counter UNUSED for the last year, because there is very little variety with the VUE. Thank you Keurig Hack!
I just bought a new 2.0 to replace our old unit that broke after many years of use and we had about 80 K-cups left. I was really surprised to find out that our old cups are not compatible with the new Keurig 2.0. Thanks for the video! Now we can use up our old K-cups
This is among of the best and quickest explanations of a DRM work-around. Kudos! An observation/suggestion: If you have family members who prefer different base-brew settings (for example, if someone wishes to brew tea or hot chocolate rather than coffee), the placement of a DRM ring up near the camera will permanently instruct the Keurig 2.0 to tune itself to coffee... I propose an alternate solution: Create a coded ring for the beverages that your family consumes the most. That is, simply cut them from products that use the preferred brew settings. Then photocopy & LAMINATE the rings into plastic with a cap-formed shape to sit atop and hug an older K-cup or even a refillable My K-cup type appliance.
I found the newest model of keurig in its original box on the side of the road! After examining the contents realizing it was a new machine never been used I realized shortly perhaps maybe this is why the consumer put it out to begin with! However thanks to this clever video I found the workaround and I'm now the proud owner of this brand new machine, just wanted to share
one lady bought a solo fill at Target and put a partial label on it and it worked. She can now use her own coffee grounds. When Keurig come out with their 2.0 it was not considerate to our wallets. Coffee cost enough as it is. Their coffee machines cost plenty. I think they make plenty of money.
Thank you so much. I was ready to take the machine back if it was not going to allow me to have Baltimore Coffee & Tea coffee!! Cannot wait to try it out. May the force and the freedom of choosing your own coffee be with you!
I was against buying this machine due to the ring of Keurig but after seeing your hack, off to Amazon I go. Also, PERFECT music for your video. You nailed it.Thanks for the hack.
The imperial death march put it over the edge for me. Likes and comments much deserved. Thank you, this is exactly what I was considering before I watched your vid. I think this Keurig issue fits the Louis Rossman “right to repair” issue.
You just made my Christmas morning!!! I would have had to return this present if not for this hack. Thank you for putting your MIT education to use for the masses!
You are awesome!!!! Thank you for sharing. That happened to me. So I cut each one open poured coffee in a mason jar. I bought the refill: "Perfect Pod EZ-Cup 2.0 Single Serve Coffee Filter" and made my coffee. Nice back up though I will keep a K-Cup as a back up.
Love it thanks I had a caffeine deprived fueled fit when I wasn't able to use my beloved K-cups in my new machine....luckily I had some crappy keurig coffee cups sitting around i was never going to drink to butcher for my needs. Your video rocked and the Imperial March was perfect for this geek girl :D
I just bought 2 packs of Tim Horton's K-Cups and found out they don't work in my new Keurig 2.0 K300 machine. I was pissed but now this video just made my day. Thanks. Gonna try it.
After going through 2 Keurig machines (one simply started leaking) - we went with Nespresso. I know it's not the same thing, but somehow my mornings are just better now.
My old keurig that would brew anything died recently and I refuse to buy a new replacement because I have about 150 pods of different kinds that I like. Now with this hack, I think I can safely buy the keurig of my choice. Great fun video!!
Excellent information! Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out how I was buying the wrong thing when it said KEURIG on it!!! But your information fixed my problem and I appreciate it so much!!!
I have a Keurig view with an adapter that you an also refill with your own coffee. No way in hell I'd be doing arts and crafts to make a cup of coffee. Kind of takes away the "convenience" part. The thing would go back to the store first.
Thanks for the fix. I'm a papercrafter and found my two-sided tape worked perfectly for this method! I really couldn't believe what Keurig did to us....when this one dies, that will be the end of my Keurig purchases. But thanks to you, I now don't have to make the trip back to the store to return. :D
If you open the next section where the display is connected you will see a wire harness that clips into sensor . I unclipped it not cutting any wires and it works perfectly! 😊💪
wow, I just received the 2.0 as a replacement brewer for my Vue that stopped pumping. I was also very excited until I realized the unit requires on K-Cups and I could not use my K-basket with my coffee. I followed the directions and cut out the "white ring" and perm glued it to the top of my brew basket and Voile it works. Thanks so much or the help! Now I am enjoying both K-Cups and my own coffee again. Deb W
This is the best video I have ever seen, i was cheering along watching this lol okay, gonna go make coffee in my new knockoff reusable cup. Thank u!!!!!!
San Francisco Coffee has developed the "Freedom Clip" which actually clips into the rectangular box. However it tends to fall out so my next step is to epoxy that bad boy in there for a permament fix. Kurig apparently doesn't believe in freedom. The machine clogged after a month as well. The paper clip trick worked for that though. Shesh Kurig maybe focus on making a machine that doesn't clog after a month of use instead of trying to control what coffee we purchase!
By locking their product, the company controls when/how often you have to replace your older one, what after market add-ons you use ... etc. Keurig = iPot?
Finally someone figured out the proper use for the internet. He probably did this after his hard drive crashed and he lost all his cat pictures and was despondent.
you sir just made me decide on this, the music makes this hack so much better, i will get this and do this as well with an evil face everyyyyy time!! lol
I usually buy normal k cups I just bought the 2.0 for pot of coffee k cup and all my old tea k cup I bought last year won't work. That really pissed me off. But I am glad there a simple bypass like this.

Electronically, everything functioned fine. I took the housing out and something rattled!!! It seems that wonderful little purple recycle coffee filter broke off the rear needle which punctures the Kcup and allows water to flow through and brew. Now I know that the brewing process isn't Rocket Science, but never in my life would I have thought that my needle would break off!! I'm currently searching for a replacement housing for my 3 month old Keurig! Beware of how you place that reusable Kcup in the housing unit. ☕️😟

Keurig 3.0 will probably require you to connect to the internet and each pack will have an individual serial number.
bahahaha 😂😂
+GrumpleslamAlabaster That is when you do not support the manufacturer anymore...simple as that....
$209 for a coffee maker isn't support enough?
+GrumpleslamAlabaster EXACTLY
If they go that far someone will either hack it or we need to boycott. FUCK YOU KEURIG!!!
Suddenly I feel the need to switch from Medium roast to Darth roast!!

You have just made my entire year with this video! I can't wait to do this at home and be able to brew ANY coffee that I want. The K-Cups are too expensive, especially for the quality!
I love this! I just spent 30 minutes telling Keurig how much I hate this DRM thanks for a way around it. May the force be with you!
Holy crap, it's like buying a shareware PC game in the 90's.
Don't copy that K-Cup! LOL

This video wins the internet... Congrats!
Hah! Suck it, DRM!
Does it? Does it really 'win the internet'? Maybe its just a good instructive video how to bypass a sensor on a coffee-machine?
thanks ooo but yes it does..
Don't you mean internets?
The internets.. like The UA-cam and The Twitter..
I have been bashing my head against the wall trying to figure this out, LOL!
Sometimes I over think things, and overlook the obvious... Thanks!!!

DeanMachine16 Ok, just tried it -- IT WORKED! Glorious! And Glory to the Empire! All hail, Darth KeurigHack!
I don't even drink coffee, but watching this vid made me want to go get a Keurig 2.0 and make coffee just to pour it down the drain.
No, don't do that, Keurig still gets the money. 2.0 is the devil.
That'll show 'em!

The amazing part is that they haven't pulled the video for music copyright infringement.
You got to be kidding me! Amazing! thanks!
You are awesome!!! There is always a loophole, love it.
ha! The music and timing on it was fantastic. Well done.
Thank you! I was seriously about to return my Keurig 2.0 because I have so much coffee left from my previous Keurig that wouldn't work in my new one.
Haha, loved the music choice. It cracked me up cause it fit so well!

Making some good old Dark Side brew are we?
Keurig 2.0 Hack -- brew any K-Cup with this easy and permanent fix
This absolutely just worked. I accidentally bought the wrong type and I thought I would have to waste it all, but thanks! :)
I just taped the whole label to the underside, works great now, thanks!
This is the best video I have ever seen, i was cheering along watching this lol okay, gonna go make coffee in my new knockoff reusable cup. Thank u!!!!!!
OMG. I’m dyin’ over here w that music 🤣
Thank you❣️
Those Bastards! We got them now Captain
I just noticed the MIT class ring! Hilarious. Thank you for the great “hack” video. You’ve earned an honor badge in my book. 😂 Loved the music.
Never thought I would need to hack a coffee maker.
Dude. You saved me so much money by doing this.
Hooray for your ingenuity! So glad to know that Keurig's Darth product manager can be defeated. May the force be with you! Bravo!
Well done, young Skywalker.
Thanks for posting this!

Awsome job, love the Star Wars theme. So this should would for the refill cups, will be making mine momentarily.
I cut a small piece (1/2 inch) of k-cup foil over the "eye" sensor with electrical tape. Works great, and I never would know it was there.
Finally someone figured out the proper use for the internet. He probably did this after his hard drive crashed and he lost all his cat pictures and was despondent.
you sir just made me decide on this, the music makes this hack so much better, i will get this and do this as well with an evil face everyyyyy time!! lol
YOU ARE MY HERO!
Holy shit you are a genius thank you soo much you saved me money and a trip back to the market :)
You win ... bonus points for making me laugh with the Imperial March.
Nice life hack. Works beautifully.
Great vid, glad I have an older Kureg... I will remember this though if I have to replace mine...
I don't know if this works yet but I had to comment straight away as I love the music with the video!!
Thank you!! I was so angry ~ I have BOXES of K cups I've gotten on sale that I thought I couldn't use in this new brewer.
I hate Keurig so I approve this video! Awesome
I usually buy normal k cups I just bought the 2.0 for pot of coffee k cup and all my old tea k cup I bought last year won't work. That really pissed me off. But I am glad there a simple bypass like this.
MAN vs. MACHINE this should be the title of this video .
GREAT JOB! Loved the music too
I can order coffee again on Amazon. life is good and so are you. thank you*
YOU ARE MY NEW HERO!
Keurig 3.0 will feature K-Cups with holograms, UV ink, RFID chips, microfibers, micro printing and encryption. Hack will be by passing a simple resistor on the board.
the force is definitely with you
awesome video. My Tim Horton coffee would not work with the 2.0 apparently. The Star Wars music was awesome!
tim Horton coffee got together w burger king ironically burger king uses seattles best coffee too
this is amazing. i just got the 450 and tried to brew a gevalia cappuccino and it said OOPS. then i found this video and hacked it and it worked. OMG. Thank you!!!
Exactly what I was looking for!!
The Force is strong with this one.
This is so epic!!!! Lol. I love the background music 😆 🤣 😂
Look for the modification video where removal of 2 screws and clip of a green wire PERMANENTLY fixes your 2.0. Took me a total of 3 minutes. Very easy and foolproof. Much better than continuing to worry about a tape solution.
Great video Rebel Leader
TY, Simple and easy fix. Gave me a good laugh too with music :D
I too enjoy my Keurig 2.0 which was a Christmas present to myself. I bought the reusable Purple cup from Amazon. It worked great....but 3 months later when I decided to try out a Keurig cup of Chai Tea, nothing came out of the unit into my cup. I tried again, then a 3rd time. ☕️😟
I had to wait a while to stop laughing after I hacked my 2.0. Now I'm going to Bed Bath and beyond for my personal k cups. Screw you Keurig.
I wish I had seen this before I bought the darn thing, but a million thanks.
45 times gilded Redditor here,
You do realise you can just get coffee and put it in a mug, then put hot water over it right? What you've done is made an overcomplicated solution to a non complicated problem. As a moderator of /r/lifehacks , i can tell you the solution for caffeine is even simpler than this.
Mountain Dew.
This beautiful nectar is euphoria to the toungue. It requires no preparation, no cellotape or any rain dances at all. It goes great with doritos and makes you look like a classy gentleman rather than some plebian that coffee does.
