Drafted 1st overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2023 NHL entry draft, North Vancouver’s own Connor Bedard made his professional hockey debut on Oct. 10th, 2023, in a game against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The matchup was fitting, as Bedard is the next in a long line of Canadian hockey icons. While he won’t mesmerize with his speed, Bedard plays an elite, highly mobile game. His most noticeable quality is his shot, already one of the game’s best, and his ability to see and think the game at the highest level.
He’s a tricky player who reminds of Patrick Kane; seeing-eye backhand passes and slight positional misdirections are his bread and butter. And did I mention his shot? Good, I’ll mention it again. His shot is going to send NHL goalies into therapy.
His first 10 games could hardly have gone better. Scoring at nearly a point per game at only 18 years of age is the rarest of feats. He does indeed appear poised to follow in the footsteps of McGee, Howe, Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, and McDavid, as the best Canadian player of his generation in Canada’s very own game.
He’s certainly lived up to the hype so far. Fun player to watch
He's looked solid as a goal scorer, but that's about it. Everything else about his game has looked average to below average so far. He's not lived up to the hype, but that's the fault of the people that were doing the hyping it's not his fault.

Too early to tell? I do know this (I hate admitting because a can’t stand him) Connor Bedard, is no Connor McDavid or an Alex Ovechkin fucking McDavid can do it all! Speed, physicality, hockey IQ, he can play the speed game, he can play physical game, he’ll thump ya! Alexander used to love hitting, as much as he loves scoring goals! I don’t think Bedard will be doing all that much thumping in his career. 😅

It’s a cool shot and all, but every time someone attempts this shot, they are high sticking. So I don’t understand why it’s ever allowed. Literally smacking goalies in the helmet. Makes no sense.
