i (an atheist) have this Mormon coworker who used to be a Missionary and he is really nice and doesn't push his beliefs onto others. He just quotes movies and makes puns as we work. He wanted to learn more about the LGBTQ+ so we talked about that too and he understood more about why his cousin felt the way that he does. After the talk he said that he was happy to learn about it from other people more than the internet, mostly because he understands it better when it is in real life. He is amazing
As an atheist, I can totally respect people who get a lot of positive feelings out of their faith. Good for you. But man, people who make it into a negative thing to others, or a power trip, please just go away.
@@RoseFBN I can't blame you in the slightest, and I'm not sorry that you want nothing to do with my faith, but I AM sorry that you've had bad experiences with people who bastardize and weaponise the faith I hold dear to hurt or try to control others.
@@Roozyj I agree. They're the total opposite of everything I was taught growing up. The level of cognitive dissonance it must take to claim you've been saved by grace, but then immediately turn on whoever you've branded a sinner with viciousness and hatred is utterly baffling to me. It makes no sense. It's why I pretty much exclusively practice my faith outside of the church. Sometimes I get lucky and find a good one, sometimes I feel like I've just walked into a cult ritual.
As a Christian myself, I don't get why some other Christians just feel the need to force other to conform and hate those who don't. Also don't get why some deny science.
Plus, the first use of Homosexual in the bible was in the mid to late 1800's in Germany and *1946* in English. Before that, it was just saying pedophilia was wrong (also the first Christians were some of the first Socialists).
@@Moonwalker2923 I do respect people, but I do not respect beliefs. Respecting beliefs is granting immunity to scrutiny, which is not a good thing. Science is not a belief system, it is just out best understanding of our universe, if new evidence surfaces it changes. Do you believe that I, an Atheist, deserve eternal torture? The Bible says I do. Not believing lands you in hell. Why should I respect that? I am not a great talker but you should maybe check out Theramintrees on UA-cam. He has a video on respecting beliefs and it explains it a lot better than I can.
I believe, that my believes have to agree with reality. I used to be transfobic. Someone close to me showed some facts that were against my believes. I researched a little more and came to the conclusion that I was being an asshole for no reason. When people try to take their beliefs above reality, they have a lot of cognitive dissonance and problems with science, who affirms reality, and other people. Believing in a God is okay, believing that the earth is 4000-6000 years old is denying reality. I try to be more coherent with my believes, but everyone believes on one or two contradictory beliefs.
As a Christian, the whole “science is satan” thing is weird to me. God created the world, yes? Science is literally the exploration and documentation of said world. I don’t get it.

@@clouds7834 well, I believe in a higher power, but I dont necessarily believe that any one religion is the 'one true religion' I believe all religions have some variation of the truth. As I was born in the southern US, I am more familiar with the Christian faith. My personal belief is, just do good things bc its the right thing to do. I try not to lead a sinful life. The most 'un-Christ like' things i do is I probably swear more than I should and I dont go to church bc I am just not a morning person. I'm calling bs on this. You sound like you're generalizing _all_ religious people, and also just assume that someone is religious. It just sounds like you're lying for tips not because you're "distracting them from the transness." In a drive-through, the only thing most people care about is the food and not hitting anything with their car. Unless you're in a super LGTBQ + phobic area, none of this happened. Also, they put you at the window because you look and sound soft? I doubt any company does that. I've seen big dudes at windows. I'm not trying to be mean, but this sounds made up.

I’m glad the phrase “some but not all” was repeated so often, when my sister came out as gay my great grandma made her rainbow sugar cookies :D (rest in peace you absolute angel)
16:58 There IS a benefit of homosexuality, it's called "the gay couples adopting lonely kids while the hetero couples were busy breading".It was noticed at animals (more at penguins).
On a similar point, it also has to do with not forcing the clan or tribe to have too many people to care for at once, so a homosexual person, in addition to being a useful and important member of the familial structure, doesn't produce any children and so the clan doesn't run out of food or something.
I, a gay male, have actually tough about this, bc being gay dosnt really make sense as a evolutionary trait, so thx for actually answering the questions instead of just laughing it off
@@ilovecookies2532For the first time in the century, AIDS has been diagnosed more in heteros than in gays. That doesn't make gays better by any means, just saying.
About the dog who was declared cancer free, that makes me so damn happy, I love animals and when I hear they’re all healthy I love it He’s a lovely boy, I hope he lives a long happy life with his human
As for the one asking about the evolutionary advantage of homosexuality: gay couples who can't have their own kids are more likely to adopt children straight couples had but threw away
(or take in the children of deceased siblings, which used to be much more of a thing before modern medicine - ensuring the survival of their own bloodline's genes, which is definitely a plus to evolution)
yeah but they'll be troubled kids coz a kid needs a dad and mom to be normal coz the mother symbolize the home/security and the father symbolize the outside world for example my father was absent for many years and I have trouble to feel safe outside my house coz my mom were here to show me the safety of home but my father wasn't here to teach me how the world can be violent and dangerous my mom tried her best on this point but a man is more suitable for those kind of issue (I'm not a retarded I'm just not an english native that's why I do basic english mistakes)
It is worth mentioning that not all things in evolution are advantageous. For example, having a wisdom teeth is not an advantage for us, but we still have them. Having an extra tendon in our wrists that does nothing is not an advantage, but some people still have them. Some things we have are advantageous, some are disadvantageous and some are neutral.
2:57 fun fact: During the Medieval Ages, there was a tale about an Indian prince that converted to Christianity, the church accepted the story and canonized the prince as a Saint. @@Nyerguds that's the power of oral tradition, lots of stories get to live for a long time, but they get transformed through error or simply by being adapted to a different cultural context.
16:55 "if evolution is real, what was the evolutionaty benefit of homosexuality?" In the nature homosexual animal often adopt orphan making them able to survive and increase the chance of the specie to survive. Hope that help.
It’s also most likely that heterosexuality was probably an evolutionary trait, as most animals wouldn’t have developed gender identification as a trait until later.

@Nyerguds He truly was. Sadly, passed towards the beginning of '21 from terminal liver failure. He liked to joke around. And at one of our former churches, he was friends with a closeted gay guy who was the sound technician for the church. Dad knew he was gay, but never, ever, brought it up. Because, he knew it did that not matter. God is love, and whoever hates gays, is not a true follower of the practitioner of Christianity. Because, they do not love everyone, as Jesus the Christ did. He, whose first miracle, was turning water into wine just to keep the party going.
The post at 16:39 honestly makes me so angry. Because that type of mentality exists. I knew someone who was so into church and so into the beliefs. She was a type 1 diabetic (meaning her body didn't produce insulin so now she had to take the meds all of her life) and they had told her if she just prayed it away that she would be healed. Well she did and also stopped taking the medicine because she believed God would heal her. Family tried telling her to take her medicine but she refused vehemently saying that God would heal her. Well 3 weeks later she had passed due to going into diabetic keto acidosis. *All because people had lead her to believe that it would work if her faith was strong enough.* I understand not all Christians are like this but... it made me not want to be a part of that anymore... if anyone is different or a free thinker they look at you weird or don't have the answers. I grew uo in southern baptists churches. And I was ostracized, they wanna say I wasn't... but it was how I was treated. I tried following so hard and being so good yet the people there would ignore me the youth group would make fun of me and not include me... I've never felt at home in a church I've always felt on edge.... just my experience.
@@matttondr9282 honestly truth or they'll guilt trip you into trying to get saved. I'm sorry but the only one that saving me at the moment is myself, I cant pray away my depression. I believed, I was a part of that. Would pray that my parents wouldn't be abusive, ask why I was so screwed up and why i couldn't be better, and wanted to fix things. Guess what. Didn't work, things that happened is just coincidence. There are good ones out there but few and far in-between. And it had left a sour taste in my mouth and alot of things are oxymoronic in the Bible.
I thought of this joke: There was a man who lived near a river and a car drove past and told the man "Haven't you heard the warnings? There is a massive flood coming! Jump into my car and I'll take you to safety!" The man replied with "I'm a devout Christan, God will save me." and the car drives away. The water raises higher and a ship floats by and the captain on the boat said to the man "What are you still doing here? Jump on the boat, you will drown otherwise!" "I pray to God everyday, I know He will save me" The house is later almost flooded over and a helicopter flies by and the pilot said "Has nobody come to rescue you? Grab this ladder and I'll help you" "I read my bible everyday, God will save me from this." The man drowns and goes to heaven. He goes to God and asks Him "I've been your loyal subject for years, I've prayed for you for years. Why didn't you save me?" God replies with "I sent the car, the ship and the helicopter but you sent them away!" I thought of that joke reading what you said because that's sadly what plenty of religious peoples logic are.
Faith healers expect supernatural events to save people. When there are tales that preach one shouldn't test God's power by deliberately putting yourself in danger
I’m an atheist, my dad is a catholic and my mum is a god loving Protestant (I have to say that because she was angry that the priest who baptised me said I would become a god fearing child since she wanted me to love god but like a sane person she kept that thought inside, didn’t voice it in a church and told me later in life when the topic got raised). All three of us go through this subreddit and it makes both my parents either cringe at how other Christians/Catholics are acting or laugh in hysterics

Oh! I didn’t know there was an ENTIRE SUBREDIT about my grandma and her insane cult religion! Some “fun” stories about these nut jobs! (First 2 are from Maryland, the last 1 is from when I lived in PA.) 1) I went to a service because there was a free lunch after for Pastor Appreciation Day. As we were doing morning worship, a little girl of one one of the singers started to choke on a piece of candy. Idk how they got it out or if it came out on it’s own, but she ran to her mother on stage, terrified and crying. The mother was the only one who stopped singing. She took her kid to the side and sat with her. AFTER the morning worship finished, she told the Pastor and worship leader what happened. Rather than make sure this little girl that was like 5 to 8 years old was ok, they told everyone to “raise your hands towards this Child of God so we may pray over her!” When she was feeling better, they started hooting and hollering about “praise Jesus!” Like no, praise whoever actually helped that poor child! They didn’t even let her go to another room to calm down, she just sat at the front row and looked miserable the entire service! 2) the pastor was telling me how one winter- when he and his family lived further north and he was a new Christian living with his mom and sister- the heat broke on one of the coldest days. So he went out to his truck, LEFT HIS MOTHER AND SISTER IN THE FREEZING HOUSE, and just “prayed.” (I think he was making calls while sitting with the heat blasting, but he didn’t want his mother and sister to know that.) Then “suddenly” one of his friends who HAPPENED to have a pellet stove for sale, just felt the need to call him and ask how he was doing. So the pastor told him the issue and the guy came out and helped him hook the stove up. But he had no pellets until “suddenly” ANOTHER FRIENDS who just HAPPENED to sell wood pellets for stoves felt the need to call him and ask if he needed help with anything. Pastor told him what was going on and he got a crap ton of pellets and PRAISE GOD and blah blah blah. 3) the pastor was telling a story about a friend who’s moth was almost completely deaf due to age. She went to every doctor and they all said they couldn’t do anything for her. So her son convinced her to go to church and let the pastor pray for healing over her. She did and had her hearing “restored.” So as they’re leaving, the son mentions how it’s so good she was healed. She says “yes, I hope it sticks” and just like that, because she “wavered in faith” her hearing was once again taken away. Like, woman has had her hopes built up and broke for so many years and God would do that to her just because she’s rightfully skeptical? There was also the time my grandma’s current youth group pastor said that if you waver in faith, all things you’ve prayed for will be undone. And what is one of the things most people pray for? The healing, safety, recovery, and life of others. So he was basically saying “if you question God, he’ll make every person you’ve ever prayed for suffer and you don’t want that, do you?” My current church’s young adult ministry pastor (I only go to church to make grandma happy) also told us that “divorce is sin. Even if your spouse is beating the heck out of you, you’re saving them from Hell and bringing them closer to God just by staying with them!” He said this to a bunch of 20-29 year olds who are married and have kids and he DID use abuse as an example.
People can be absolutely crazy. Also, that last bit about the abuse- Religious manipulation is the worst kind in my opinion. It just makes already bad situations escalate and there's no way to get out out it, and no support if you leave.
@@Rocco049 I know. I’m Christian, just not the same breed of Christian as my grandma. I’m actually sane and don’t try to force my views on other people. My grandma will got up to complete strangers and “witness” to them without even asking if it’s something they want to hear.
As fucked up as these stories are (especially the last 2) atleast its well planned enough to cover 2 very obvious holes. Hope ur grandma dont get fucked over by these guys
20:50 This was especially common even before the complete writing was finished. The book is comprised of 66 volumes, most notably several long-winded letters between disciplines and church leaders all over the region. There are also books of literary history (filled with random symbolic language and several alternate re-tellings) and collections of poetry. It has more than 40 authors that spanned over a period believed to be more than 1600 years long. At first, the idea was for the book to be handled by a professional interpreter who could translate the manuscripts from their various native languages (Greek and Hebrew mostly, with some Latin) for an accurate understanding of the complex work. This devolved into a kind of elitism that allowed the educated church leaders to claim their own interpretation of the book as gospel. This led to underhanded money practices and political and religious repression and corruption.

I was raised catholic and honestly when you explain some of the most common practices and beliefs it very much sounds like a cult *ahem* Once a week I was taken, without my consent, to an old stone building where everyone spoke in unison in response to some men in white robes and a seasonally colored shawl. Close to the end they chanted over a golden dish and chalice filled with wafer bread and wine after the chanting is done these items are turned into human flesh and blood. EDIT: I am not anti-religion I just don't like how people use it to harm others. I also just don't like how people can use the church to try and control others.
I too was raised (moderate) Catholic, and my position is that the Catholic Church isn't quite a cult, but is incredibly cult-like, and many (if not most) of its major branches are full-blown cults. That said, my position is based on Steven Hassan's BITE model as opposed to the general aesthetic typically associated with cults, which Catholicism displays quite a bit.

There was a Jewish scholar, don't remember his name, who made the argument that while the atheist may be "ignorant" he is still loved by God as when he does good he does so with no expectation of reward. Basically, it's about what you do, not what you believe.
@@k0lpA You could interpret it like that, sure. That's the thing about religion. It's all interpretation. If you were a good person, you get in to heaven or whatever, if you weren't, you don't, no matter how much lip service you paid him. @@larryharrison4396 Just a reminder Christianity in general is debated if LGBT is actually a sin or not, there are usually three main arguments with the first one being the translation that says sleeping with another man is actuality about being gay, The second one is the concept that the line in the Bible that says sleeping with another man is a miss translation as the Hebrew and Latin version could easily talk about laying with a young male or a kid...And then the third one is a group in the Catholic Church in other Christian churches that believes being gay is a sin entirely but more acting upon it, Though I wouldn’t be surprised if the second one is actually the case as early Christianity Had more of an issue with religious orders like the Hellenic Roman Pantheon and it’s priesthood corrupting children which was considered a big Taboo while anything remotely “Gay” Was already a pretty common and mostly accepted thing in different areas of the empire and other nations Christianity spread to
I started studying law last year and one of the first sources of law was religion And our teacher, despite being from religious family, agreed with me that Bible is nothing more than a way to manipulate people into following basic rules. Because once you look at it,it's basically a bunch of laws in a form of tales. I'm pretty sure that reading this would make religious people mad
Hell, it even has instances where favoritism and bias is shown. Old Testament says that banging your sister is a huge no-no, but then Abraham and Sara get a free pass. And this one isn't even an "Old Testament vs New Testament" contradiction.
Nono you and your teacher are pretty right and it applies to other religions as well, its actually extremely interesting For example I'm Jewish, there is some scientific evidence behind the foods that are considered non-kosher and why they are forbidden, there are diseases related to a lot of non kosher foods, obviously less prevalent today, but it's one of my favorite examples of the rules religion puts out there It becomes a problem when people (especially in power) change things to their favor though, especially when it harms certain people.
@@liorschifrin I honestly believe that one of the reasons kosher became a thing was to have food safety among the people, which I think is pretty neat, I need to do research on the dairy and meat thing though Edit: Some sources say it can definitely cause problems, mainly digestive ones, personally never had that issue though
Kinda backfired, since people now think that the God they described as being the God of love and mercy will torture you forever for being a kinda bad person, and now think that gods name Is just god, isn't that fucking stupid?

There have actually been studies that show that prayer works to improve outcomes in medical cases! Here’s the catch, though: *the person has to know they are being prayed to or it won’t work*. This suggests that something about having someone pray for you may psychologically help people in a way that can assist in healing (similar to a placebo). So even if you don’t believe, at least having a replacement for praying with someone may still be good for your health.
5:56 I just had a perfect comeback for that. If god knows all then he would've known when he created the rainbow that people in the future were gonna use it for the LGBTQIA+ community, but he still made it. If he was angry with how some people use it he would've taken it away by now, but we still have it. Furthermore, if he doesn't like LGBTQIA people, then why did he create them?
Most people agree that the main counter argument for the anti lgbt reason of christians is due to a mistranslated word example: Thou shall not lie man to man for it is a beast When its supposed to say on the og translation: Thou shall not lie man to boy for it is a beast The whole verse aint condeming gays but its condemming pedophilia

The very next Sunday the sermon was about giving to charities specifically not to donate to Susan G Koman . After the sermon the preacher came to talk to us. When asked how I was doing I promptly told him I'm fine but my aunt just got diagnosed with breast cancer. He immediately walked away and is still noticeably uncomfortable talking to me years later.
wait, why? Thats a super strange reaction to someone expressing grief. I've never heard of someone being prejudiced against people with cancer.. just... why?

The sentence "He won't listen to reason, and he will not stop being gay." is absolutely hilarious somehow. Parents forget your birthday again? Be maliciously gay to get back at them.
Fun fact : 16:45, the evolutionnary benefit of homosexuality is a "fail-safe" for premature deaths of parents. Basically, if you have a small percentage of the population that cannot procreate (because ofc), they can adopt the offsrpings of deceised individuals. This is pretty much how it works it human society, gay couples adopt children, but it also exist in the animal reign. Some even believe that some species actually survived thanks to this particular trait : imagine there's a disease that mostly strikes one gender, and that the species affected by this disease requires both parents to be alive to raise the offspring, then you're left with a lot of babies that cannot be raised because only one parent remains. If however, there are gay couples, they can step in and raise the baby until the outbreak blows over. Same goes if one of the individuals is bysexual, and just mates with another individual of the same sex after the death of the first mating partner. So yeah, there's actually an answer to this question
as a Muslim, those oppressors don't represent us. True Muslims know that wearing a head covering is a choice and Allah's love is for everyone. As long as you have a good heart, Muslim or not, you'll go to paradise. These tyrants use our beautiful religion as a tool for their oppressive agenda. I'm so tired of it.
Actually there used to be a huge issue with women drowning back in the old days while washing laundry at the river. If they fell in, the layers and layers of skirts they used to wear would get saturated in water and become too heavy, dragging the wearer down into the depths.

My mom made a great metaphor when we were talking about religion: Imagine you had to go back in time to the 18th century and explain how a phone works to them. They would probably get a lot of shit wrong. That’s a lot like how god had to explain the creation of the world to Christians, and we got some shit wrong as well. The Bible is not god’s message, it is our interpretation of god’s message.
my 2 braincells are trying to comprehend this, so basically what ur saying is that science may be correct about how the universe formed, but when god (or possibly multiple gods) tried to explain this to the 1st few humans, they got stuff wrong, and of course what was written changed over time as parts were forgotten or rewritten.
I see the difference elsewhere, namely in science being about the how and religion being about the why. But you're correct nonetheless in that the bible is influenced by the contemporary context of its authors. The latent antisemitism that shows up on occasion is a good example of this. Under the Roman Empire, there some Jewish uprisings, which eventually provoked the destruction of the (second I think) temple of Jerusalem. As a result, not being perceived as a Jew was quite important, and since Christianity could be easily perceived as a jewish sect due to the two sharing the fundamental (and unique) concept of monotheism, the distinction had to be quite hard. And that is why the bible tells the story of the crucifixion the way it does.
16:40 one of my fathers coworkers wife has breast cancer. She has done no chemo, no radiation, no treatment. They are putting it in gods hands and praying. It has not worked. They have gone on multiple vacations because “It looks like she’s dying soon”. And this coworker likes my dad, once his wife dies my father apparently gets a car. And on multiple occasions the coworker has said “If she dies before this trip I want you and your wife to have it” and when my father says I can’t do that, he pulls the my wife’d be dead so you can’t say no. I don’t judge based on religion, hell I used to be a pretty hardcore Christian, now I’m an agnostic gay kid but whatever. I’m not gonna judge a man and his dying wife but I will hold my tongue when he’s brought up and give my kindest regards.
16:49 several actually. Let's take penguins as an example. Sometimes penguins have way too many kids that most of them often get abandoned. Homsexual then adopt these extra penguins and then Foster them. This ensures more penguins live and less penguins die. This can be applied to many specicies, not just penguins. (Again im just using them as an example)
@@filipe.sm31 this. Evolution doesn't only favor traits that give advantages. So long as the trait doesn't hinder the species as a whole it can hang around harmlessly.
@@strayiggytv and to expand this further, there are traits that *were* advantageous in our history, but aren’t anymore, but due to how we built the world, most humans, regardless of their physical traits, get to love long enough to procreate, and that’s where evolution happens, as when a certain trait isn’t procreating, that trait disappears over time. And that’s why jokes about the “selfie arm” or arms getting shorter piss me off because there is no need to lose our arms, we live just fine with our long arms thanks to food abundance so no our arms won’t get shorter just because we’re on our phone all the time or whatever creationists say. Also to further said point, homosexuality is a development by the brain, not directly by traits, that’s why heterosexual couples still produce queer kids, as brain wave don’t tend to fully line up with physical traits, that’s why trans people’s brains tend to act more like their preferred gender rather than their birth sex, as, and say it with me children, your brain doesn’t care about your genitalia, your brain and physical body are two separate entities that are just forced to work together to survive
0:55 a good lesson to learn is that it's a bad idea to lump all religious people into the same group, they rarely have much in common unless they attend the same church or are part of the same friend group, some are mean spirited hypocrites, others are sweethearts who just grew up with religion, I have to actively avoid the temptation to see the worst in theists, because that's simply not how people work. 2:28 I suspect that's a shitpost because it seems to have the cadence of one, but who even fucking knows.
Bro I was raised Christian and spent all of my teenage years HATING religion because of how AWFUL and DISGUSTING it was. A god that made people who didn’t worship him with no way of knowing better suffer for eternity because he could, who committed mass genocide MULTIPLE TIMES, and encouraged persecution utterly disgusted me, especially as a fearfully closeted member of the LGBTQ community. It caused me severe trauma and anxiety, to the point I would have multiple panic attacks a day for years because I thought I was going to burn in hell. Because my own family told me I would burn in hell if I didn’t accept their beliefs. It was messed up, but they didn’t even know better and were doing it out of love and the desire to save me. I don’t resent them or think they’re bad people. And now I don’t resent religion. I consider myself an agnostic Christian (a Christian who is open to the possibility they could be wrong but still lives in that faith). What I HATE is organized religion. Whenever humanity gets together and even touches something with any semblance of power or decision of morality it all goes to hell. They will twist it and corrupt it, and take something personal and even good, and make it a display of how they’re chosen and enlightened, and a vessel for hate. They turn a belief and relationship into a showy feelsy cult. And it utterly disgusts me to my very core. The church is everything wrong with religion. People are everything wrong with religion. People who are either so entitled or looking so desperately for an escape they conform it to say what they want to say. The Bible says nothing about other people believing other things being persecuted, about heaven being gatekept (That’s the reason Jesus died for petes sake), about evolution not being compatible with creation, about cursing (it says not to curse your brother which means not to say hurtful things, not not to say arbitrary words that have been labeled bad BY PEOPLE), even the homophobia in the Bible is a translation error! And this is coming from someone who was indoctrinated and practically forced to memorize the Bible, to the point I won an award for knowing it in the SECOND GRADE. Heck I was baptized before I was old enough to think critically! And yet they have the nerve to say ATHEISTS are brainwashed. Utterly awful. They’re lucky their god is such a merciful god. Because heaven knows most of these “chosen” people don’t deserve to get into heaven. No one does, and the Bible says so.
i agree with everything you said !! i have a very similar experience to religion like you and i esp agree with what u said about how whenever there’s organized religion there’s chaos. i’m really not sure that i want to chain myself to a religion much anymore even though i grew up christian, i think now i’m leaning more towards christian beliefs that aren’t influenced by others at all because of how crazy some christian people are. i really don’t want to label myself with a religion like that. btw i hope you’re doing better with your trauma now
Sorry to hear about your experience with religion. I'm lgbt myself, my family isn't christian but I've felt the weight of the christian doctrine on my shoulders as well, so I can not even imagine what you must have gone through. Organised religion is a nice idea, but will fail in the end, is my personal opinion. Trying to figure out what makes sense to you spiritually without harming others, that is what religion should be about. Some of my friends are christian, some of their parents are as well. Some of them are very nice people. Some of them are not very nice people (cough homophobic, racist and misogonystic). I like what I call "God". I like what I call "the Universe". I like feeling like we are all connected. I like feeling like someone listens to me when I pray at night. Does that make it real? Who knows. It doesn't matter, because it feels true to me. I think thats a good way of viewing it. And luckily, more people than ever will agree with me on that. Have a good one
I relate to this SO MUCH. I’m a teenager and going through the same thing. I completely relate to pretty much everything you said. I’ve had some talks with my mom, and I actually came out to her as I am also lgbtq+ and she’s been surprisingly supportive in my beliefs and identity. It’s helped my anxiety and depression tons to know she still loves me and won’t try to change me. My family is Christian and I’m still Christian, but I’m open to accept a lot more beliefs and ideas than most Christians. I don’t believe that a lot of the things in the Bible are true. I honestly think most of the stuff written in there was made up by preachers to scare people into religion or to make everyone around them believe in the same things as them. But I believe in God and would like to keep living a religious life while also being accepting and supportive of other religions, identities, and cultures. I also want to thank you for sharing your story because it made me feel really happy to know I’m not alone and there’s people out there who have gone through what I’m dealing with.

Buddhism is just as dogmatic and fear-based as Christianity. Following an organized religion is not anywhere near the same thing as literally following Buddha or Jesus.
As a Christian, I've noticed (this video especially, 14:20) that there is a major misconception with the idea of "Hell" that Christians have. Hell is not an eternally fiery pit that non-believers go to when they die. Hell is just the state of being fully separated from God. It is total emptiness. I just think that it's stupid that we're given this idea of a flaming pit where devils will torture us for all eternity, when in reality, if you go to Hell, the only torture you're being subjected to is eternal boredom. Just thought I'd mention that (even though no one is gonna see this comment).
Me and my family once went to a church because they had very pretty Christmas lights and somehow me and my family went inside and somehow we began listening to that Jesus story, I was like 10 and they said "all children up to 11 come to the stage" and I was the only 10 year old and clearly was not a kid who went to this church. 18:40 is so, so, so sad. That baby girl doesn't even know what a boy or a girl is. Why would you change her life for the negative (and likely end it) because of something she has no control over and her parents do neither? By the way, the Bible says to love your enemies. Maybe the lesbian couple would see your donation as a blessing. The Bible does NOT SAY ANYWHERE (of which I am aware) to sacrifice innocent lives over something God never said was a bad thing. The one people usually go to is Leviticus 18:22, 'Man shall not lie with man, for it is an abomination.' but this is actually a mistranslation, the verse ACTUALLY says 'Man shall not lie with young boys as he does with a woman, for it is an abomination.'

Why didn't you save me?" God replies with "I sent the car, the ship and the helicopter but you sent them away!"

Oh! I didn’t know there was an ENTIRE SUBREDIT about my grandma and her insane cult religion!
Some “fun” stories about these nut jobs! (First 2 are from Maryland, the last 1 is from when I lived in PA.)
1) I went to a service because there was a free lunch after for Pastor Appreciation Day.
See, there’s Christianity and then there’s cults running around wearing Christianity’s face. I guarantee you that most of us are not like that
@@Rocco049 I know. I’m Christian, just not the same breed of Christian as my grandma. I’m actually sane and don’t try to force my views on other people. My grandma will got up to complete strangers and “witness” to them without even asking if it’s something they want to hear.
*what if i don't want to save an abusive partner from hell?*

Yeah... well... why did the Church leaders edit so much of their holy text? Right.. Political and Religious power.

@@larryharrison4396 Just a reminder Christianity in general is debated if LGBT is actually a sin or not, there are usually three main arguments with the first one being the translation that says sleeping with another man is actuality about being gay, The second one is the concept that the line in the Bible that says sleeping with another man is a miss translation as the Hebrew and Latin version could easily talk about laying with a young male or a kid...And then the third one is a group in the Catholic Church in other Christian churches that believes being gay is a sin entirely but more acting upon it,
Though I wouldn’t be surprised if the second one is actually the case as early Christianity Had more of an issue with religious orders like the Hellenic Roman Pantheon and it’s priesthood corrupting children which was considered a big Taboo while anything remotely “Gay” Was already a pretty common and mostly accepted thing in different areas of the empire and other nations Christianity spread to

Nono you and your teacher are pretty right and it applies to other religions as well, its actually extremely interesting

The issue with this analogy though is that it implies God has limitis when it comes to transferring information and explaining how things work.
You could also interpret it as the writers of the bible couldn't understand God's descriptions, not that the descriptions were given incorrectly.

19:55 that's actually a really cool picture he made, like that must've taken forever to finish.
Also to further said point, homosexuality is a development by the brain, not directly by traits, that’s why heterosexual couples still produce queer kids, as brain wave don’t tend to fully line up with physical traits, that’s why trans people’s brains tend to act more like their preferred gender rather than their birth sex, as, and say it with me children, your brain doesn’t care about your genitalia, your brain and physical body are two separate entities that are just forced to work together to survive

a good lesson to learn is that it's a bad idea to lump all religious people into the same group, they rarely have much in common unless they attend the same church or are part of the same friend group, some are mean spirited hypocrites, others are sweethearts who just grew up with religion, I have to actively avoid the temptation to see the worst in theists, because that's simply not how people work.
This commit here is a prime example of why people distance themselves for religion it's not just about weak faith.

I'm an atheist with decent Biblical literacy but if someone could quote a single actual contextually appropriate Bible verse that is homophobic I will eat my hat.
The one people usually go to is Leviticus 18:22, 'Man shall not lie with man, for it is an abomination.' but this is actually a mistranslation, the verse ACTUALLY says 'Man shall not lie with young boys as he does with a woman, for it is an abomination.'
