I have the Omnia with silicone insert and use it on top of my Trangia 25 with either the methylated spirit burner or gas burner. Adding the thermometer takes the guesswork out. Thank you for sharing👍
Great info! I am super sensitive to smells and have not been able to use my silicon inserts because of the smell. I still bake by buttering and flouring the pan, but a non stick pan would be great.
ya know Mary, we never thought about the sensitivity or allergic angle from silicone, you make a great point. Wow, nice.. another good option for folks !
Since I purchased the non-stick pan it is all I use. Clean-up is simple and I like how sturdy it is to fill with batters. I also have that newer case. I can fit the nonstick pan, the aluminum pan, silicone insert, silicone muffin pan, and rack in them.
I made my own o-oven which has perfectly cooked both times I’ve tried-just takes 50 minutes. But at least it’s an option for baking without an oven. The worst part, for me, is cleaning the silicone liners. They are the hardest things to clean. Perhaps mine are older and newer silicone products are easier to clean, but no matter if I cook in oven, IP, microwave, or just use for fudge (without cooking involved), they seem difficult to clean. I was sure hoping the non-stick was going to be easier to clean. That would have had me considering spending money on actual Omnia oven. I enjoy your videos so thanks for sharing!
Great Video but I think the only difference is if you use the metal baking/steaming rack. I would not suggest putting a metal rack in the non-stick as it may chip and then basically the pan would eventually be ruined. BUT..it is a FANTASTIC alternative to anyone who has an allergy to silicone. 😊
Carla Woodward- I counted 10 Omnia. Thank you for this comparison- saves me from thinking I’m missing out on a new must have item! Thank You, I appreciate your time in sharing this with us🌞
Hello! Great video. Thanks for sharing your recipes and experience with the Omnia. It’s really helped me with my learning curve with this product. I use it for baking on our boat. I don’t like to light the propane oven on our old galley range. Poof! All the best to you -Gina
Somehow as soon as I see a new video I feel compelled to give 👍🏻before even watching because I know I’ll be good. So far you guys haven’t proven me wrong. I was curious about the nonstick and now I know. Thanks! By the way another great recipe.
i had to hunt down that eva case this morning, since we never use it, lol. It does fit with the omnia thermometer, but not the greatest. you kinda have to move it around a bit....thus....i would say the case is not made with the thermometer in mind. I (Stu) personally do not like the case. I don't think Edye does either, since we actively use two ovens and do not use that case on either.
I'm finding the original pan(with silicone insert) gets discoloured and is difficult to remove the stains, so am going to try the non stick pan, BUT still using the silicone insert. And whatever happens a second pan wont go to waste.
you're on the money Ray, our original pan is discolored as well, but it doesn't change the way it cooks, it just looks ugly, lol. Thanks for watching !
funny how people who use aluminum pans don't like the discoloring, but cast iron pan freaks love it when their pans get discolored, aka "seasoned".. it's the same thing, you actually want your aluminum pan to become as discolored as possible and do not scrub it with scotchbrite or steel wool, ever! you want your aluminum pan to turn into a dark brown, it will never turn black like cast iron but it will eventually become just as nonstick if you don't ruin it by trying to keep it shiny........
@@ProdigiousReturn I have to remove the thermometer to fit the Omnia into the case. It only takes a second to remove and so worth it, to not have any rattles!

@@LittleHouseofBeans A wee question - do you prefer the non-stick insert to the silicone ? Or would you say I would be best having both? Many thanks in advance :-)
@@nseight Edye loves the non-stick, and uses it exclusively now. I think it cleans up better, and doesn't hold the smell (meaning you could go back n forth between savory and sweet dishes).
i'm guessing the nonstick pan would make a better cornbread with a crispy crust than the silicone insert. i don't have the nonstick pan otherwise i would do that test myself, maybe you could pick up 4 boxes of jiffy mix and test out my theory? i say that because i do 2 boxes of jiffy mix in my omnia with the silicone insert and it does turn out good, but isn't as crispy as i would like....
@@LittleHouseofBeans because it is a standard item available to anybody so the results should be able to be duplicated easily by anybody no matter where they are. following the instructions on the box of course...

I think the non stick pan is easier to clean, or has been thus far. We've only used 4 times.

I got six...Debi aldy. How was the washing up? Was wondering about rolls/bread but saw your cake note so got my answer!!
Edye said washing is easier than the silicone. and yea, we're still testing cakes (not so much breads)
If you get a laser thermometer you can test the temps of both in order to compare during the cooking process.
i think harbor freight has cheap ones, i might just do that !
@@LittleHouseofBeans Don't be cheap. Buy once, cry once!
I finally got around to watching it again so I could count. I think I counted ten. That was harder than I thought.
