I just got a 24' LT 3/4 ton crew cab long bed also about 3 1/2 weeks ago myself. Ive always had 1/2 ton trucks- 2 Chevrolet and 1 Ford, my new Chevrolet 2500 rides better than all 3 combined and ive been very impressed with it on that note. I also got the 6.6 gas 4×4 z71 and so far my best mpg was about 17.5 mpg with only 4600ish miles on it i cant complain at all for it being a 3/4 ton. Also i think GM has the best interior, it is just so much nicer than the others and it feels like a much better quality. Btw im also in Michigan traveling to Illinois for work every week which is why i have so many miles on it already. I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Keep my up to date on how you do with mpg's
That's awesome! I had originally wanted a long bed but for the plowing that i do it made more sense to have a short bed. I dove a 1000 mile review video up that I go in depth on the fuel economy I was getting. I ran across the scales with it and it's over 7000 pounds. So the economy out of a truck this big and this heavy, were doing pretty good I think
I’m having a rear suspension noise on my 2024 LTZ diesel. Dealer can’t figure it out but the rear leaf springs were replaced and the noise went away for about 6 weeks and it came back. Took back to the dealer and the tightened the u bolts and noise went away for 7 days and it came back. Went again to the dealer and they said that they opened a case with GM and have to wait to hear back it’s been about two week and nothing yet. It’s noisy and it sound like the rear shifts when making turns and any bump on the road you can hear it creaking.
That's very interesting! I've seen a couple people mention that problem on the Internet. I think some even jacked up the back of the truck and sprayed wd40 between all the leafs and it helped. I had a clunk for a while, rear differential was a quart low, and then I never had it again
@@adventureandrepeat must be just a couple trucks with that issue. I greased all the leafs up and the issue is still there just waiting on gm to notify the dealer what to do next.

2013 GMC 3500 Duramax SRW, Snowplowed commercial since new, original front end except wheel bearings done 2 years ago. Grease every oil change with Lucas Red and Tacky.
Bought an 18 silverado. Immediately removed AFM and put full aftermarket suspension on it. Also did away with that Stabilitrak crap too. 110k miles now with just general maintenance and it hasn't missed a beat.
agreed, went thru a bunch of trucks last 4 years cuz used market made it possible not to lose money on trade/sell....even manged to profit on a few......GM makes best overall HD trucks when everything is factored in, also most affordable.....went back and forth with HD and 1500s and GM is by far most comfortable HD truck to drive while empty while still keeping excellent tow and payload numbers when needed purchased a 6.6 liter gas High Country 2500 HD last year, the digital steering and auto 4WD are excellent features......bigger bed as well is really nice to have and the steps on back and side of the truck.....it just feels super solid and well made......had a 21 Ram and did not get that feeling havent had any issues and truck rides even better with 10k miles than it did brand new off road packages are nothing more than a cheap pair of shocks (which are typically softer than standard ones) and GM is no different....soon as Ranchos burn out will be upgrading to slightly better ones like a bilstein or Eibach
Very cool! That's awesome you were even able to make money on a truck! Bed steps have been very nice for how tall these trucks are. But I'm definitely feeling the ride getting smoother as everything settles in. But it is sad that the off-road packages are really just a few stickers and not much else. It seems that plow prep is more of an off-road package than z71
Did they tell you that the hubs had to be locked on the Ford? I have a ‘20 SD, I don’t have to lock the front hubs for 4x4 unless I want the front end locked. I just turn the dial. Great vid!
Thanks! When we took the test drive I asked the salesman if had had to lock the hubs like always and they said yes. I honestly never looked specifically at the wheels to verify his answer cuz I was focused on the rest of the truck. We had a poor sales experience with the Ford dealers we went to
That transmission is not built by Allison. It is an Allison branded unit built by GM. It is produced under a license from Allison and was a collaborative effort between Allison and GM . The 1000 series 5 and 6 speeds used in the previous HD trucks were produced by Allison.
What kind of range are you getting while towing? Stopping for gas 4-5 times on a trip is simply brutal. Probably the only reason I’m considering diesel. Thanks! Great review.
Thank you! Unfortunately I have not done a tow test. At first I was under break in period and the manual says to avoid towing. Then the weather here in Michigan turned back to winter so I have not had good weather for an accurate tow test. I have been very eager to get it out and compare to our Tahoe. Once I do, I'll make sure the video gets up as soon as possible!
The 36 gallon tank on these chevys gets me far enough to where my bladder and fuel range roughly line up. I agree back in the days of the 8.1L with the 26 gallon tank was brutal.
@@Stlchevy we did cross country with a Tahoe pulling a trailer getting around 11mpg and a 21 gallon tank. I had it down to a science of 1/4 tank of fuel per hour
Yes it's more than I had expected. That's why I made sure to video it for proof that was what the truck was telling me. I'll be sure to make updates as the motor gets broken in more

Have had my 24 LT 6.6 gas for about 3 weeks now. Only 128 Miles on it so far as I'm trying to break the engine in driving it on days off if the weather cooperates & my commute to work is mostly cruise control driving. Anyway, agree about the ride & my in town driving MPG is around 12. My 2016 1/2 ton 5.3 averages between 20-21 mpg to/from work so eventually I want to drive & compare with the new truck.
I agree. And we just simply don't put on enough miles with a heavy load to justify it. And yet with a gas engine this truck is still rated to pull 16k pounds
I would agree. The dealership should have had it set to manufacturer recommended pressure. But I did not actually check them for myself. Maybe I just had high hopes for it with how it's advertised and got a little disappointed
I was wondering what your planned first engine oil drain will be at, as well as future oil changes as I am guessing due to the fact your a mechanic, that you have your ways which could very well be different than the "minimalist" servicing that seems to be the theme with some of the vehicle manufacturers these days. I might be wrong in stating this but I don't think they even bring up "severe service maintenance intervals" in the manuals now.
The manual is not great at severe service schedules. It doesn't list engine intervals any different than normal iirc. Just trans, transfer case and differential have shorter intervals. I will be doing my first oil change on the truck at 1200 miles. Every change past that will be around the 5000 mile interval. Most oils I've noticed break down after 5000 miles. Especially the ones worked hard with a lot of towing in gas engines in the summer. I run amsoil in my engines that's rated for 20,000 mile changes and I still change it at 5000 miles. Oil changes are cheap compared to buying a new motor and the headache of getting it installed
@@adventureandrepeat It always used to be one of the listed items and an explanation of what was different between so called "normal use" vs severe use and short trips, dusty conditions, pulling a load, cold weather, hot weather and so on all put the maintenance schedule into the severe category. Now it seems some magical brain in the vehicle tells the driver when to change the engine oil, yes it knows just how to get it past the warranty period !. And as to the oil your planning on using, that was going to be my other question and you answered that.

Most people today just want the car to tell them when to do it and that's it. Just like cupholders in cars. You don't need them in a vehicle to get you from a to b. But everyone wants it, so the market drives the product. But I will work on putting a video together about what GM calls for on service schedule and what I believe as a mechanic would be better suited to make sure the truck lasts
Nice truck good luck,if I was going to buy a new truck a buy pretty much exactly what you have gas LTZ I just probably put a CAT scan in, cuz it's directed directed engine. Ford has the injector in the platinum and direct injected so it washes the back of the intake valve, hopefully GM does that on the 66 what's multi-port injection as well as direct injection
I agree. I will be putting a catch can on here soon. I built one for our Tahoe. But I'm waiting to get thru the initial break in in case any warranty issues arise before I install one and potentially void my warranty
I had bad experiences with dodge so when i bought my first brand new vehicle i went with chevy and have never looked back. Since then my wife and I have bought 2 more brand new vehicles from a local chevy dealer. All our vehicles are very reliable and run great. When i get the money im seriously hoping my next new vehicle is a chevy 2500 hd. The local chev dealership has treated us great and the prices were similar to other brands of similar vehicles. So i prefer to stay with a dealership that treats us right.... Dont ask about the seriously crumby dodge dealership that has staff scream at customers kids. Ive owned dodge, nissan, ford and Chevy vehicles over the years. So far the best was Nissan and Chevy.
Got a 24 HC Duramax in August after having many Rams over 20 years. At the time, the Chevy was fully equipped with every option for significantly less than the Ram. Now at 17k, I had to replace the DEF tank under warranty. I had a 24 Ram 2500 Gasser with rear air suspension as as much as I liked the truck, it rode like a truck from 2016 where the chevy drives like a refined truck in 2024. This is coming from a Ram fanboy too!
We test drove the ram. Loved the interior and everything about it. Just rode so poorly compared to the Chevy. I'm glad you have enjoyed the transition!
Dude just throw a few 60lbs sand bags in the bed and get the Ram. You would have been fine. Now you’re going to be playing electronic problems roulette with that GM. Can’t wait for the future updates.
I was hesitant about all the fancy electronics in this truck. But I don't have the parking sensors or 360 cameras and such. The bulk of it is just the updated touch screen dash. So I'm hoping GM learned from past mistakes to make something with minimal issues. It's always a gamble with any new vehicle. They're put together by people, people can have bad days and make mistakes
As a mechanic, I'd take the Silverado over the tundra. Engines are built better for more power to be added. Transmission is heavier duty. Iirc tundra uses a 7.5” rear axle that they require diff fluid changes every 35k miles while a regular Silverado has a 9.5" rear axle that can go 75k before a fluid change. Bigger ring gear means it can handle pulling bigger loads. Frames are actually built stronger in the Silverado. Zr2 Silverados have more suspension travel than a TRD tundra. In the aftermarket the Silverado has more support because racers always want the Ls or LT engine, but nobody is ever Toyota swapping engines into their car. As far as service life, if you take care of a truck and do regular maintenance it will last
And this is comparing the 1/2 ton Silverado to the tundra. If comparing the 2500hd to the tundra, the 2500hd is in a class above the tundra in everything. More power, frame strength towing etc
As the owner of a Tundra for the past 16yrs, i'd put it head and shoulders above any of the Big3 half-tons then and now in terms of reliability. That being said, the only gas truck engine on the market i'd trust at the moment would be the L8T in the 2500HD.
good choice I have the diesel version because I Tow alot, I did all the research about ford, dodge and chevy, and the Chevy is ofcorse better truck all the way.

Nice thing about this truck is it doesn't have any of that! We have been very lucky we haven't had any afm issues with our Tahoe yet

16-19 mpg so far??? thats great for a full size! curious to see how that develops over time!

Diesel option is $9,500ish so is definitely a big investment. Won’t make sense for average Joe, but can payoff for long distance hauling.

they all come with tires inflated at or near max PSI on HD trucks....my Silverado did as well, dropped it to 55psi when DD

Not sure how your getting 19mpg. I get 13mpg city, 16.6mpg highway. I’m super light on the go pedal and i live in Florida.
