NEWS FLASH: it snowed in Edinburgh last night! (that doesn't happen often, so we went out at 2am!)

To see proper snow in Edinburgh is something of a rarity, so when we saw the white stuff falling from the sky late last night, we braved the cold weather at 2am to go for a bit of a wander. Join us on a 2 hour walk around a city that looks awfy good covered in snow :)

Watching this 2 years later, in Qld heat, smiling at your playfulness and obvious fun. Terrific.
Obviously I'm not watching your older videos in order (I've got a lot of catching up to do). You made the comment that people in Canada for instance would not consider that a lot of snow...this is true. BUT...what you have that we do not is absolutely beautiful buildings and scenery to hang the snow on (I'm talking about the big cities...obviously the north is pretty spectacular). I love walking in the snow after dark...it just glitters in the moonlight...an ethereal quality.
Edinburgh looked lovely with its white icing. It was surprising to learn how rare snow is in the city and interesting to see that public transportation runs at that time of night, even during a lockdown.
Yeah me too! It was a rare treat indeed, but we were so tired afterwards, maybe we should have jumped on a night bus! :)
This was one of my favourite walks you've taken us on so far. Thankyou both for bringing such joy.
Ha. I've stayed in Edinburgh once. It was about 2010 and they had a couple of days of crazy now. It was 2ft thick and freezing cold, so I ended up snowed into my hotel. It's one of the best memories of my life.

First time I have seen Edinburgh in the snow and man it is even more beautiful than normal. Great video Steve and your lovely lady looked like she was enjoying it as well. Only problem with going on a walk in the early morning is that it always seems to be uphill on the way back.Happy New Year to you and yours also to all your supporters.

Lovely view of the castle from where you stood, framed by the snowy branches just in front of you. Like a Grimm's fairy tale illustration. Great idea to trudge out into the snow!
Was in Edinburgh last week. Took a long walk down to Salvesen at night, came back from Hull after failed attempt to escape back to the Netherlands on that bizar Sunday when Holland locked me out!!! Was nice seeing the city In the dark. Definitely atmospheric at night and a must for any visitors to the city.
I did manage sneek back into the Netherlands before they lifted the ban on UK travel.

I am watching this in 2024 June, and loving it. Our winter temperatures are lows of 10 and highs of around 20 C. So a lot different to yours. I really feel that because I watch your videos every night, I feel like we are best mates now. Keep them coming.😍
We had one snow flake here in Dublin 2 nights ago. I had to rush to the shops and buy up all the bread! It was bedlam.

Loved watching you enjoy the snow. Here in Prince Edward Island, Canada, there is no snow. Had a green Christmas and slept wth the windows open Xmas eve. We've only had a few flurries here so far this winter but I'm sure the worst is yet to come. Because we're surrounded by water we miss a lot of the storms. Other parts of Canada not so lucky. We visited Edinburgh in June 2019 and can't wait to go back. Have lots more ancestry sleuthing to be do. ☺

This video brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for posting. I lived in Edinburgh for a couple of years 25 years ago and felt it to be home. I was trying to figure out what area you were walking from then saw Omar Kayam restaurant and knew. That was my fave restaurant. I’ve been back in Canada but still miss Scotland every day!

Love snow when it is fresh and fluffy to walk through. The snowflakes falling in the street lights look wonderful.

My husband is a HUGE Seahawks fan, so I couldn’t stop staring at the hat! 🤣. Looks like fun, but I started to get cold watching, especially when it started to rain.
Ha he has good taste :) yeah, we were absolutely freezing by the time we got home, which feels even worse when you’re that tired!

Great to see people enjoying the snow in the early hours
Oh what a truly beautiful sight. I cannot remember the last time I saw snow. Nothing on Dartmoor yet!! But, I did go and visit the ponies, and take a walk across the moors. The last time it snowed in Devon, I was in Dubai during the winter months staying with my son, very different, sweating most of the time. Unfortunately this year I could not travel to visit him, but hopefully in 2021. Thank you for a really beautiful video.

Gòod video. Glad you enjoyed the snow and at Christmas it makes it look great with the lights on etc. Here in St.johns N.L. we get 10 feet of snow on average during the winter . Even a small fall of snow and you get a full moon at night it will really brighten things up at night. This video is 3 years old or so but it's my first time seeing it.

I’m looking out of my window 236 kilometres north of Québec city whilst watching your beautiful video, as the first snow of winter is falling here and the first monsteras snow clearing machine goes by ! I must say that the old architecture of Edinburgh in the snow looks far more beautiful than Jonquière in the snow.
Wow though, I'd do anything to be where you are right now!!!

Next time this happens, turn left, down the Water of Leith to Stockbridge, up past St Stephen's and burst out on the Castle from the North. If the snow is still fresh and squeaky you shouldn't need huskies ! (o:

Someone has been listening to Frank Zappa!!!! Great, fun video. Lived in Minneapolis for many years and they got lots and lots and lots of snow. It really was a winter wonderland late at night or at daybreak before the virgin snow gets trampled down. But yes, it did get old when you got these snowfalls in April. Love the snow but likewise we don’t get much snow up here in Thurso. Edinburgh is my favourite city in Scotland to visit and big thumbs up for the Seahawks hat. I’m a fanatic and I’ve been to Seattle three times 😍
Thank you for taking us for a walk through a very Christmassy Edinburgh in the wee hours. My family in the West Mids have had a few inches of snow too, which their new pup has enjoyed playing in, but sadly not a flake down here in London as per usual

I remember snow in Edinburgh, 1969 I think. Went down the hill at the end of Redford Walk on a sled and went head first into the kerb. Then it was off to A&E for stitches. Not been on a sled since I was 5...

Edinburgh's old town is beautiful I'm from Sunderland but live in Somerset so never get to see snow miss it . Love video wish I was there.

When I lived in Edinburgh in the 80s we used to get loads of snow even in the 70s we got loads of snow but you are right in England we had more snow in the West Midlands area than we did in Scotland

Used to get great snow in 80s here in Cardiff - would go sledding at the golf course as got plenty of speed and airtime over the bunkers... probably had 1 or 2 "snow days" since 2k
Your videos never cease to amaze me. WOW!!!
Snow is nice but slush tends to penetrate all kind of shoes except into the rubber boots. However the latter ones tend to be quite slippery and cold.
Love the snow, experienced plenty of Canadian winter's, not this year of course.
And again... Down on the shore too! Amazing! should do a pub crawl of the pubs open about town... Some sell ice-cream I'd imagine, yellow ones too...

Another great video Steve....everything looked really beautiful with that snow fall....thanks for getting out at that hour to share it with us....glad that you guys enjoyed it! We had 23 cm here about 2 weeks ago...took out the snow blowers & cleaned up around....but on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, it was +15c & poured rain, so we're back to bare ground & just cold & blustery.

Went a 7m walk with my.daughter and her dog Kylo on Sunday and we got caught in some wild hail the last 2m, Kylo didn't look impressed, done the full length of Troon beach on Monday and again yesterday "Tues" as Kylo just loves the beach, very light dusting of Snow around Ayrshire Steve but nothing compared to what you've had.
Walking about in the snow at 2am, you are a man after my own heart mate, I love the peace fresh snow brings and hearing the crunch underfoot.

In the states where I am, we sometimes get two feet of snow in one storm. Not often, but is has happened. Of course we have the snow plows to clear the roads, so within 5 or 6 hrs, traffic is moving just like normal.
You are much better prepared over there for sure!

Fantastic, and amazing to see a city I love to visit actually in snow; I'd have totally come out to walk & play in the snow at 2am as well - but I think I'd have worn my weatherproof gloves, cold fingers are several levels of not-fun!

I can relate to that video today . I love the dry Crispness off snow at night. It was 41celsius in Melbourne Australia last week, here about a week ago. I love Edinburgh but wouldn’t venture there in the winter.
We need to send each other some weather and find a happy medium!
@@steve-marsh I think we already did. It was about 16 & we got 37 mm on Friday most of it in a couple of hours . Still waiting for the hot weather though. Our summer is known for interesting weather. A 43C day with a screaming Northerly Wind is like walking into a furnace.
Wow, so beautiful, thanks for sharing! We have had a few snowfalls like this here in Ottawa this season, and I get excited every time, but they have melted quite fast. Eventually it will stay cold long enough for the snow to stay, and then we will have it on the ground for several months.. but it is certainly something to admire as it is so beautiful! Maybe next snowfall I will go out and take some photos/video..
