3 Reasons Not To Buy One | Royal Enfield Himalayan FAQ #3
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лип 2024
- The Himalayan, as good as it's become in this new generation, has a few flaws, some of which can get in the way. Here's three reasons not to get one. First, the engine. As nice as it is to use, the engine is not a smooth one. It's constantly buzzing the pegs, the bar also buzzes quite a bit and that's below our expectations from what is otherwise a pretty smooth and slick experience. For some of us, that buzz, especially between 90 and 105 is, erm, buzzkill. Second, the finish. The Himalayan feels robust and quality is good overall but the attention to detail needs improvement. From certain bolts, a series of open tubes where rust could start, to wiring that's more unruly than a badly behaved six-year old, the Himalayan, when you look closer loses some of its sheen. Third, we think it's going to be super popular. And while it does sound strange to hold its popularity against it, if you're the sort who wants a motorcycle that few other people have, the Himalayan is destined to be too popular for your taste. Also, if you're planning to buy one, we do suggest you wait a bit which should solve the missing tubeless spoked rims as well as any initial issues that might occur.

Appreciate your honesty! Most other reviewers behave like the bike dropped from Heaven
Yeah there isn't a bike without any flaws. The flaws it has are so minor it doesn't really affect your riding much.
True that...
😂💯
😂😂 yeah sahi pakde ho ....all of them are carried away

People criticize electric vehicles because they don't have 'soul' and at the same time have problems with the petrol engine because it has 'buzz'
Welcome to the world where electrics are treated like trash even if they are good products
Thank God! I bought Scrambler 400x. It’s completely fun to ride ❤. Beautiful machine and feels great to ride every time.
I have heard it vibrates a lot after 6000rpm /95 kmph ?
@@krishna.yaadav speed 400 vibrates, not the scrambler 400x
What mileage you are getting with scrambler 400x??
Just about every review I've seen is like an advertorial.
Shumi's perspective is always true.
Advertorial? We don't do paid or collaboration content.
That's my point @@motorinc
Your content is refreshingly different and honest. Most auto publications and journalists only cover the pros. They gloss over anything that is circumspect or anything that may be perceived as negative by the manufacturer. Hence their reviews read like advertorials.
PREACH BROTHA PREACH !!
3rd reason made me opt for scrambler 400x
Good decision👌
Correct. Much more usable. Reddit post today said it has less vibration than Himalayan 450.
So it makes sense to go for scrambler 400x.
Same here. Love my scrambler
Why no one is talking about yezdi adventure and scrambler?
@@jk-jf8kr it's a flop
I rode this himalayan around 6500kms in a month. I really didn’t found anything like you have mentioned. I travelled from Jammu to Goa and Return, there’s not even a single point where I thought i made a wrong decision to bought this. I am very satisfied and i think it’s worth to spend money on this ADV compared to its competitors.
Do see the other stories on the Himalayan too, Sid! This is one chapter in a series of videos!
Depends on what else have you ridden. If you haven't ridden other bikes like the KTM 390 adventure or other bikes in this price range, you won't know as you have no point of reference to what is actually good.
No reference ?
I´ve got one too, and my reference is very straightforward: if it meets my requirements , then it´s a good bike. Simple as that 😊.
This is very simple motorcycle. Gives a lot of pleasure to ride off-road but it looks not so nice and has asian style build.
@@podunkman2709 but when the chassis is broken, it becomes even more fun!
I've had many bikes, but my current one is the best I've ever owned. You'll always hear people discussing the pros and cons, but it's important to listen to your intuition and follow your plans. I've seen people riding all kinds of bikes, even scooters, and the Himalayan is an excellent choice in its price range. Go for it guys!!
riding my new Himalayan Kamet white from past one week, its very very good i just love it. It has such good power and is the most refined royal Enfield i used r15 and it had almost 0 vibrations. So even after coming from a japnese brand rider i feel no discomfort with the Himmy 450 one can go blindly.
You really got good model, I tried one Himalayan 450 for very short ride it was ridden 900 kms, 1st service was done, but only right side grip of handlebar was vibey. Maybe due it was crashed by previous tester the LHS mirror was broken. Surprisingly gear shift was smooth. Tank & seat vibe disappeared in motion. Surge at 3k was awesome. I am 5'8" was able to flat foot at front edge of seat with sport shoes. With riding boot it will be more comfortable. Will be taking long test ride in nxt week. It's being longtime i GOT this much excited to buy an bike after TD.
@@amitkrupal1234 The bike you rode are of 2023 end production. I and anyone purchasing will be getting the 2024 ones. I have Yamaha R15 also so I know what refinement and quality I expect thats why I never purchased a RE before because their quality was worst but trust me this is totally a new breed from RE you can blindly buy one now, it has no competition that can beat it in this price also the Showa suspension is extremely good. For your height they even have a scooped seat for more planted foot position. Liquid cooled engine is also best.
Today I test rode it and your points are completely true!
Took a couple of test rides, fell in love with the bike but quality control levels seemed a little iffy. Hoping to wait till the next batch starts to come out and we see some improvements, fingers crossed.
My question is for Shumi, from where did you buy that RS Taichi RSS011 Drymaster-Fit Hoop Shoes ?
Reference:- you wore it in “THIS CONNECTS” EP 6
Is it available in India?🤔
“I HAVE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION IN MANY VIDEOS BUT NO ANSWER, PLEASE ANSWER THIS TIME”.
Please do answer shumi bro
@@charlesvlogz07 I have commented at least on 10 videos but still no answer 🥲😣
Do your own research online bro 😂😂😂
@@navindranv i have done some research but haven't found it anywhere (Cuz it’s not available in India) that’s why I asked him.
Shumi, I have heard rumours that only Kamet White is going to get the Tubeless Rims, which might retrofit in terms of color easily with all other models except Hanle Black. The golden rims on hanle black were reported to have some quality issues when tested with Tubeless cross spoked rims. I have to verify the sources but I read rumours. This is likely why Kamet White costs highest price in west and not the Hanle Black. Unfortunately if the Hanle Black doesn't get Tubeless Cross Spoked rims in black then it'd be a shame to pay so much extra for it.
IMO, Kamet White also looks best (I have a Hanle black and I still envy the White).
Hi, do you also know when can we expect the tubeless rims to be available?
The new Himalayan has an 81.5 mm stroke length. The Triumph 400s measure at 64 mm. Considering the longer stroke, if the buzz is similar, I think that's pretty good.
And yes, I will definitely be waiting for early batch issues to be sorted and for the tubeless rims to be launched.
Let's see if the upcoming 390 Adventure can up the game. It has to. When the Himalayan is this good, KTM has no choice but to outdo it.
Thank you for such a non biased video
your opinion eventually gives sense to upcoming buyers and hence it leads to show effect on the sells of the motorcycle and finally it makes them to improve the product.
It's an awesome machine...clocked 5k kms now..
Nice! How has your experience been? Riding? Service? What needs improvement?
i like this bike so much, its make me happy to travel where i wanted to go,i've got nothing to explain about this bike, smoot and easy to ride,i love it❤thanks to Royal Enfield 👍🏻
THere is a reason for spoked wheels, most tourers/off roaders have these. This is for the higher strength that's needed to hold the wheel in cases of strong bumps which are common on such terrains.
It’s because spoked wheels can flex more and absorb bigger hits without cracking/failing.
At the time of booking you can opt for spoke wheels when they are available.
But the main fact is that
It is the most vfm bike for riders who want to tour but doesn't have too much money and it is enough to buy this bike ❤❤
In case anyone is wondering, THIS is what motorcycle journalism feels like when the rider, not the manufacturer, is put first. ❤
Thank you for watching @mattwilliams9758.
This is me after 6 months of using, hated the engine initially, but once we start understand it and use the grunt by not seeing the gear indicators, daam i love it now just like i love the old classic 350!!!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing @mrlg3811
The issues you mentioned are things you can expect before going to your dealer: 1. A single-cylinder engine will produce a certain amount of vibrations, this is physics. If you want a silky smooth engine, opt for a twin or a four-cylinder bike. 2. A Himalayan will cost about 1/3 of, say, a BMW GS. If you expect a GS-like fit and finish, go and pay GS money. You just get what you pay for. 3. Having a little patience until everything is available (in Europe, the entire bike will only come in spring) is less of an argument against the bike itself, but rather one to wait for a few months, since tubeless tires are confirmed, completely developed and already applied on some review bikes for the press. In all, this clip just reminds everyone of being realistic and to not travel too far on the hype train
450 owner ?😂😂😂😂
I can't - the 450 is not available in German shops yet
Bad luck Mike?? 😂😂
Thanks for this information I was waiting on buying the current model but I might just go with it
Tubeless is always a super plus. Kudos to royal Enfield to do so. Thanks
Couldn't agree more - and can't wait for them to roll the tubeless wheels out!
Respect for ur '3 reason why ....' wala vdo series 🙏❤
I specifically looked for this particular short to post my comment. Got a test ride today (finally)! 🙄 Sad to say that everything Shumi has mention here is true. The test bikes themselves were a nut and bolt away from disaster. Warped front disc on one, tuning was messed up on the other.......
Whenever a new product is launch or an upgrade with major changes, like in case of 450 the engine, it’s always best to hold on to your purchase till the next update.
As most of the time the manufacturers tone down those issues which were occurring in the first iteration.
This was evident with 411 carb version as when the RE introduced the fi engine for the BS4 version at that time they had cleared most of the issues.
So the new product is always a tried and error thing for the company. So i feel it’s always best to postpone your purchase for the next version, unless you have surplus funds to spend.
Yes! Agreed!
Exactly , lot of the new Himalayans have alignment issues
So the 1st batch buyers are literally Guinea Pigs 😂😂
Every product is designed with a specific user in mind, focusing on their preferences, where they like to use it, and the timing as well. These users enjoy the products in any weather. However, if you feel there are some flaws, it may indicate that the product is not tailored to your needs. The engineers who designed these products are highly skilled professionals. They are AVD engineers who have thoroughly tested these products in challenging environments that few dare to explore.
No doubt. We’ll still call it like we see it - that’s our job. Also, please do take the time if you can to see our other videos on the Himalayan - this is one a of a series of videos that explores the bike from multiple viewpoints
I think there is bound to be this much buzz. It's a 450cc single, I don't think there exist many engines above 300-350cc that do not have some good amount of NVH
Upgrading from 2015 classis 350, everything is acceptable and my friend once you have driven Royal Enfield you cant go back to anything else😁
do you know if they have plans to fix the restriction that for the full dash navigation to work, the mobile screen should be kept on.
Bro do a review video of husqvarna svartpilen 401.
That bike seriously needs a tubeless rims. Its literally complete.
Is ride by wire a reliable system? Especially on Himalayan?
Great observation shared sir!! ❤
4. It's very heavy when compared to other machines
Its less than the old himalayan. 196kg is a good weight for a person to carry this large bike. What would you even expect from a adventurer tourer.
@@Mustafalokhand5253😂😂 tenere 700 weighs same
Hi, I was hoping to get an answer on my very old question .
- The rear fender is a plastic part which is similar to the Hunter. On the hunter a lot of the models have mis fitted rear fender which doesn't align properly, looks like bent from one side. Is this the case with the Himalayan?
How long do I have to wait for the tubeless? And will RE work on finish levels and vibrations on the next iteration?
For 450cc class buzz is an inherent property. For the price it's worth it in my opinion. If you need an amazing fit and finish you will have to do some expensive purchases.
Thanks for sharing your take @riflebird4842.
Stronger engine vibration is to be expected from single cylinder engines unless the manufacturer try to reduce it a bit by including a counter balancer in its engine design.
Is there any way to remove the Saree guard, if yes will the warranty be valid?
@motorinc Is it worth to wait 1 year for the 2025 ktm 399 adv?
Wait for another couple of years for KTM 599 😂😂 we don't even know whether we will see another sunrise tomorrow !!
i can live with the vibration.,trust me. I lived my life on RTR.
Could you compare the engine with J series engine in terms of smoothness?
May I know until when should I wait to purchase the Himalayan? @motorinc
สวยงามชอบมากๆรุ่นนี้ จากการรีวิวโดยเฉพาะช่วงล่าง
It really is the most vibrating RE right now in market. Borrowed my friend's 450 for a week and absolutely hated the vibrations. Under 5k Rpm it's smooth. But suddenly thereafter it it's a constant irritating buzz
Sir, on the POV which is the best bikes under 3 lakh
Can we use the same tubeless rims of Himalayan 450 on Himalayan 411 ?
Hi sir should i wait for tubeless with spokes in future like 2025
Took the test drive yesterday and I'm in a mixed state of mind. The bike i rode had vibrations from 3000 rpm and it kept on climbing up all the way up and there is a significant power drop in traffic even in 2nd gear.Had to constantly shift to 1st.The handle bar position is slightly weird (I'm 5'10 ish above)my forearm and elbow started aching after a while. I've ridden the old Himalayan and felt extremely comfortable but not the same with the new one. Is this how the new himalyan is ? Or is there any chance that the particular test drive bike is odd?
Wise words from the Guru..
It's the flaws that give a bike some charme and character. I don't care about specs. I'm getting a blast out of riding any bike. Looking forward to test ride the new Himalayan.
You said it right, In 2024, Himalayan still uses tube😢
i am curious after tubeless spoke what will be cost

It's surprise if RE not disappoint us😂😂
That's a damn nice helmet anyone got any idea where can one get that
I think they have a video about motorcycle gear in one of their "this connect" podcasts
It will be awesome if you use a vstorm..
Last point is crucial. Never buy the Mark One version of any bike.

Yes! Bilkul Sahi. Interceptor twin ke saamne Himalayan single mein vibration ka ahsaas zaroor hoga
Please advice me, I have an urge to buy Meteor 350 2024, should I go for it, Travelling 80 kms per day
Indestructible? I dropped it while stationary and bend the clutch lever. Never happens on the 390adv
Clutch lever is designed to bend when dropped.
@@bsviky yeah boss, They're also designed to break at a certain point along the length. But I don't trust a motorcycle that is so top heavy that a stationary fall bends the lever. Neither my ADV nor my duke nor my impulse ever bent their levers in that fashion over flat ground
FYI - Spelled Himalayan wrong on the card.
But I agree. It’s an average bike. I love the 650’s but it lacks finesse still. Wouldn’t trade my Triumph or Guzzi for it.
Oops! Thanks @user-ot1lj9dn8b!
Good points. The engine vibration could be solved with an overdrive 6th gear. Consumers need to start demanding an overdrive gear. Every car and truck on Earth has an overdrive since 1995. But motorcycles are trying to self destruct due to being geared way too low in 6th gear with no overdrive on any motorcycle. Wtf.
Truth is we can't usually test triple digits speed during test ride. highest i could hit was 60-70 but i must say mid range is amazing and i didn't feel vibration on pegs but on handlebar it's evident
Thanks for sharing!
Are the vibrations worse off than Scrambler x400?
Yes. The Triumphs might be the smoothest 400cc bike out there in India( single cylinder)
acc. to strell, the only two speeds at which the 450 is vibe free is @80 and @140. before ,between and after has vibrations. the 400x starts to buzz after 100.
No hate for Karthikeya but i want an elaborate insight of shumi on the new sherpa 450cc engine. The already uploaded first impressions on Himalayan didn't work for me.
Peace ✌🏽
Good job guys😊

Hi
Im thinking of buying Royal Enfield meteor 350 aurora blue.
Only problem is it comes with spoke wheels with tube tyres.
Is there any possibility of that bike getting tubeless spokes as standard?
Or what shoud i do?
Stellar and fireball have too much dark colours.
Can you please suggest something?
We don't believe that you can get tubeless spokes on the Meteor at all, ST. Your best option might be to get the Aurora and add the alloys back (which is more money spent, obviously)

And the guy respects you too @syampratap8513.
Can you make a video on helmet??? Isnit possible to buy a budget helmet with minimum wind noise?
We can! But the short version is that there no helmets where wind noise is not a problem. _NONE!_ The safer thing to so - and it's important you do - is buy earplugs and use them on all motorcycle rides. We all do here at MotorInc.
Shumi sir, one thing I need to get a clear picture from you. Last week I had been to a 650 km one side ride. While returning back I was cursing in between 90-100kph on the highway on my Gixxer SF250. And then I saw this crazy Himalayan 411 bikers fully loaded doing crazy speeds at above 120kph. Do you think the older 411 Himalayan is still better than the new Himalayan especially in the engine compartment. Btw whenever I go to long rides on my Gixxer, because of its riding position I do get a lot of body pain all over the body. I’m planning to trade it to TVS Ronin as it is much more comfortable for my built of 5’4” and 68 kilos weight. For me the speeds of 90-105 kph would do fine. Any suggestions?
Vishwas, the old 411s could hit 120, but not as well as the new engine can - it's nearly maxxed out at that point. There's no aspect in which we can say that the 411 is better than the new one, TBH
lets see some close ups of those fasteners
I saw a video couple of years back where it was mentioned that Himalayan had issue at high altitude and another one saying that it's chassis was fragile and broke. My first bike was the continental GT 535 and my experience is mixed. It was a great bike with real good feel but reliability is a big issue with royal Enfield bikes I believe. I think they have become better but have they become good enough? I don't know.
Can you talk about the helmet? Looks good!
How long do we have to wait for tubeless rim because i wanna buy this bike but my friends are suggesting me to wait a bit . As it's my first it will helpful for suggestions and opinions.
Still waiting for RE to confirm, Roshan!
411cc making 24bhp is not what I'd call powerful, but that's what you're getting when you use 100 year old tech. Part of the charm.
You're talking about the old Himalayan. This is a 452cc engine with 39.5bhp.
Recently, I heard about the chassis break issue. Only two cases were reported so far. I booked one last month; should I still consider buying it?
Please check out our Short from yesterday titled "Are Your Crash Bars Breaking Your Motorcycle?" @sowrabhkodla6365.
I have done test ride twice.. What i felt is that the bike is great for touring and offroading.. But In city Himalayan feels very sluggish and heavy..less agile because of That 21 inch tyre is not at all good for day to day life..Once you drive slowly in city.. And yeah the radiator heat throw is really annoying...and not a pleasant experience at all...
Thanks for sharing @ReignitedDrifter.
Tubed tires are much better for adventure riding. Easier replace tire of repair flats.
Perhaps. Tubed tyres deflate instantly which is terrible for your safety. Tubeless punctures are far easier and faster to fix. And you can always put the tube you carry as a backup for tubed tyres into a tubeless tyres in an emergency just as you normally might.
4th reason is its built for off roading iam preety sure most of the viewers will stick to highways. Good choice for traveller's.
They should keep the Tail lamp! Don't know what purpose they have removed it! If indicators bust at least the tailgate light helps at night for the safety purpose!

Oh wow! Best of luck - we hope you get the delivery soon!
Don't wait for the tubeless spokes. The government's reluctance to approve them, due to their association with a Chinese manufacturer (the sole producer of tubeless rims), suggests approval may not be imminent. However, the other two points are valid.
When is the full episode coming out Shumi

ayein?? Seriously dude.
Should I get the Himalayan or fantic caballero 500 Rally?
I'll mostly be riding on the street and Autobahn, but also want to go off-road from time to time
Hey Nicolas! We're in India and unfortunately Fantic isn't sold here so we've no way of helping you here. We can tell you that the Himalayan by itself is a very nice motorcycle that does so many things beautifully - and it'll manage the a'bahn, streets and off-road easily. But we don't know of the Fantic 500 is better on not.
