They didn't smile in the old portraits because the photo took so long to expose that they couldn't hold a smile steady long enough. It came out as a blur. Also, as you say, they had a different life. We take smiling for granted. They didn't have as much to smile about. Thanks for the tour! I will definitely stop there when I travel through Kingman.
And little did they know that people would be looking at their photos 100 years later.
I love living in Kingman
Phoenix here….elaborate please. Can’t see how? Close to Vegas,Grand Canyon? Summers in the100s
@@keithbalke6352 Yes, it is close to both, and the summers aren't as bad as its not in a valley, hell, it's higher up in elevation.
You have the best narrating voice on UA-cam!!
Can you imagine what Rt 66 was like in 1950 which was when my parents took us on a vacation to see Hoover Dam, The Painted Desert, The Petrified Forest, and on to Missouri. I remember it being so barren it was almost eerie. Glad you are doing this video. I haven’t seen Kingman since 1986.
THANKS!
21:55. Great mural
If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're enjoying yourself! Thanks for taking us along, Russ!
Russ, you're living the good life amigo! Hello from East Tennessee...
Thanks for taking us along. It looks like a fun place to visit.
Or live.
Don't know what happened ,But my comments seem to disappear after post? Thanks for today's video, RVerTV Russ .
Been there done that several times! It's still neat, I'm from S.E Oklahoma.
Great place.
Still getting your kicks on Route 66! Thanks for the trip. Looking forward to New Mexico.....been a long time since I was there. 👍👍🤗
Hey Russ driven the 66 Flagstaff to Chicago 6-7 times…… ALWAYS in a hurry to get to SW Michigan. Albuquerque 7 hrs, Amarillo 10 hrs, Seymore Okla halfway there! All times from Phoenix btw
Always liked Kingman, great place to visit. Heh Russ your not concerned about the white van stalking you? Lol. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍
Another place I've driven thru and know nothing about. Thanks for the ride!
If you pass through Santa Rosa eat at Chico's Torta's! It's really good!
Thanks for another great visit to my hometown Russ. Some of those ranching pictures are of my ancestors. Our Brand is on that wall also. WF - Grounds. My great grandfathers name was William Franklin and they used his initials to design their brand.
Home of Rickety Cricket brewery! Smack dab in DTK!
Hi from Mary in Florence Alabama. I enjoy your program and I watch it every day. Thank you so much for putting this on the air.
I have been on Amtrak many times through there. This last April visited there on 9 week 8,000 mile road trip.
in N.M. you might visit four corners,Farmington,Aztek area....ship rock,four corners,Aztec ruins,Navajo dam...beautifull country
Nah…..Rio Doso and Raton best NM destinations
My wife and I were there in Kingman, AZ in February on our way to Phoenix, and stopped to take a picture under the sign and find at least one geocache. Great video, information about the area.
🕊️ Beautiful ❤ Of Route 66
Always Safe Travels
Thank You!🌹
🙋♀Hello Russ! Have a wonderful Fathers Day! enjoyed the tour of Kingman. Beautiful day!👍
In case you read this: You mentioned going to Henderson tomorrow. I know you avoid the madness of Las Vegas, but tomorrow, it's especially important. The Golden Knights' parade to celebrate winning the Stanley Cup is tomorrow. They're expecting what the police called "A New Year's Eve crowd." I live in Las Vegas, and I'm going to Overton for the day.
Safe travels.
I love that part of town in Kingman AZ the train station is my favorite 😊
Safe travels Russ
Oh awesome. Been here many times as family lived here in Kingman. Thanks for the memory drive, Russ.
THANKS RUSS
for sharing the ride ✌️💗🎼🎵🎶
Hey Russ, thanks for the tour of Kingman! I'll be passing through in on Tuesday...it sounds like I'll be a couple of days behind you on Route 66. One historic Kingman location I'm looking forward to seeing is the White Cliffs Wagon Trail just a little ways from the visitor center. You can still see the wheel ruts left from the road that was built in the 1890s. You're right about Mister D'z Diner, they have pretty good food. Happy trails!
Wow!!! 20+ years ago l was there and it was very neglected...
Thanks for the ride glad people bought business up and restored them👍
Haven't been back in 3 yrs used winter over there till the sweet and sour sniffuls hit
Thanks for the Kingman tour.i'm one of the new influx of people moving to Mohave Co. i will be in the Kingman area [Yucca] in july getting my septic system installed on my Property.
Thanks. Russ for another fun ride and tour through those Museum.
More to come!
Great stop is Grants NM, nice museum and 2 really interesting national monuments.
You have unfolded it with the best narrating voice.🎉🎉
I was born in Kingman and lived there from 1973 thru 1978 and 1984 thru 1986. I also attended that high school (Kingman/Lee Williams) accross from Railroad Park. I published some videos recently on my channel featuring my experience and some significant events that happened there over the years. Thanks for sharing your drive through of my old hometown. It's nostalgic to see that familiar scenery again.
Awesome documentary of Kingman Old Town! I love road trips and discovering our history hands on. Just passed through Kingman AZ on our way from Houston Tx with a stop in Santa Fe NM. Route 66! Major!
Dang Russ I must have just missed you..was shopping at West of 3rd on Beale St.
I'm planning on relocating to the Kingman area. It was nice to see some of it through your camera before I arrive there. Cool museums. Thanx for the tour..
There are spots in NM with ponds that have 3day camping spots with free electricity and water in Eunice NM
FREE ELECTRIC? What’s the elevation there?
They couldn’t smile because it was a long process for them to take the picture you had to stay still for a certain amount of time
That’s the family has been mining those turquoise since after World War II
You should’ve gone to the Bonelli house it’s to your right across the street from that old church
Old Kingman below, new Kingman up over the bluffs, on "Andy Devine" Blvd. If you enjoy geology, it's worth taking the freeway cut. Thanks for the look inside the museums I never took the time to visit!
I used to hunt pigeons inside that building with a slingshot
Hey Russ, we can drive that old Chevrolet to New York… i bet you it goes 5 mph but we’d make it there and back to Arizona in 2050… LET’S GO😂😂😂…. ❤❤❤your video Russ
Really liked museum’s exhibits . Very nice displays.
Hi russ thanks for the tour great to see history kept alive the beautiful old buildings im looking forward to the next trip . Cheers mate🇦🇺
Sadly, I'm been PAST Kingman, but wasn't able to "visit" it. From Reno down US95 and US93 to Phoenix and I-10 in a semi.
I was out there a week ago! It's getting very California in Kingman at least with the gas prices 😅
Yes, Williams and Flagstaff had cheaper gas than we saw in Kingman. Even down in Bullhead it is less.
Thanks for the day,i always seem to be in a hurry going by there, weddings, furnals, next time I'll stop and enjoy,,,pic under the drive through 66 sign!!😊
Please show us Taos New Mexico! Thanks for all you do.
God Bless , United States America , Russ , RVerTV Fans. Can Russ Visit Canada In 2023 - Canadians Love RVerTV Eh. Happy Trails - U.S.A. - Russ - RVerTV Fans. Thank you Russ.🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
Regarding the old black and white pictures, it took so long to get the picture mechanism to work, I wouldn't be smiling either! 😂
12:50 - That's probably my favorite color in the world. I'd love to have an exact color match to paint my house that way, LOL. By the way, I'm watching it on my TV, but switched to my phone to type this comment, and there's no comparison for the color; it looks much better on my TV, just in case anyone wonders what the big deal is. I want to move there.
Russ, if you travel through Northern New Mexico, in "Grants" along Interstate-40, you will find "EL MALPAIS", a region covered with volcanic ashes eons ago that New Mexico turned into a State Park well worth exploring. And when you are around Las Vegas, go climb Mount Charleston, another "must-see" natural wonder. RICHARD
Too much work to be smilin all day!
Always great videos Russ...safe travels
Your videos make my day go by so much smoother. Enjoy them alot!
No coins in the slot, no dial tone.
Wish I was there 😪 thanks 😊
Nice
It's ok however you want to say route, your telling the tell. 🎉 😂
I lived on Packard st. in Kingman for a while once--- it was NICE.. HOT'ern heck in summer though- never got out in the day time there. Have a picture of the house I stayed in there-- with almost 2 ft. of snow on it!!! :) No one back here believed it snowed in the desert!! ha. I worked in Laughlin- I always stop in Kingman to gas up when I drive back to Califrnia..
It’s been in circulation since the 1800s and it’s still in circulation today called the Kingman daily miner
Wow! I was born and raised in Phoenix and the only times I have been in Kingman, was driving through, on the way to Las Vegas or Laughlin.
I love Kingman♥️
Great video!
Great video Russ'great history thanks again. Ready for your next road trip this year.😅👍
One of your best episodes. Great museum that Mohave museum. Thanks a lot.
The picture of the man bending down to the toddler with all the family's belongings tied to the old ford; that's how dad came out west and I have an old picture of them just before they left Oklahoma. Grapes of wrath - Oklahoma dust-bowl depression going west to look for work. I believe he came through kingman on their way to so cal. He mentioned there was no bridge where they crossed a big river, (I assume he meant the Colorado), and took a river ferry somewhere. I've not heard of such a thing but there must have been one back then somewhere. That generation sure had it rough,....and then went off to fight in a war. Whew.
Russ have you ever gone into The Route 66 Bar & Grill in Belmont, AZ.?? If your heading that way it would be worth a quick stop. I haven't been there for yrs.! They had numerous old style gas pumps, hot rods and an old motel sign from a motel just east of there, it was in the movie where Peter Fonda flipped off the motel owner as he changed the sign NO Vacavcy, Didn't want them hippie motorcycle guys staying there. Anyway it might be worth a short stop and see. I totally enjoy your video's and content. Thanks
Cool is right!! Another great video, love that history. Enjoyed. Thanks!! 🙂👍
Russ, in northern New Mexico head to Chama where the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad operates over the Southern Rockies. Great filming and drone opportunities.
Hi Russ when you get to n.m. You may want to check out canyon de Chelly you will have to make a small detour back into az my wife and me really enjoyed it when we were there in 1996 I really enjoy your videos thanks robert
I plan on stopping at the museum over labor Day when I go to Las Vegas. I want a picture of my Tesla in the drive thru and there is a new Tesla super charger there now
Did you do Valley of the Fire Highway, above lake mead? mouses tank etc.?
Beaver Dam out that way thats what I'dd like ta see
Awesome ride!! My wife and I will be riding through Seligman Peach Springs and Kingman in May.... Only thing I see missing since we've been through before is the Route 66 badges on the roads where they asphalted.....🥺 Hope they'll re-badge them. Thanks again, Great Job!! 👍
Places to visit along RT 66 in AZ. & N.M.- Window Rock,Fort Defiance, Old Town Alb.,the Crest-Sandia Peak Tramway,Moriarty,The turquoise trail, Madrid- where " Wild Hogs" was filmed, Mesalands Dinosaur Museum in Tucumcari are a few!
Changed alot since the 70s I worked at Kinsel Datsun out on Stockton hill rd
I'm from Phoenix and one thing I can say is that Arizona has well paved streets and sidewalks everywhere.
In Albuquerque the tramway stop at Whataburger, Lotaburger or Twisters and get a green chili cheeseburger
Been watching you for awhile now and I didn't see you ever stop at Nelson's Ghost Town Nelson, Nevada (Just north of Searchlight). Got married there this past March. What a unique, fun place!!
Congratulations on your new marriage.😊
That Kingman route 66 arch is a exact replica of arch they've had in Grants NM for a long while.
Thanks for the reminder, enjoyed visiting there in 2016
His father and mother ran the Beal hotel
Kingman would be a nice place to live I believe.
Cheap cheerful and for the most part pretty safe. Even the working class neighborhoods which are not attractive in looks have mostly nice folks in manufactured homes on fee simple owned lots. There also are mid and upper priced very nice neighborhoods. Employment is pretty OK too I think. There is a great hospital too.
Hello to you, this is Gerri from Ohio (state im in now).Truly you have made an amazing video. I was born in Kingman, AZ at the old Mohave General Hospital which was located downtown Kingman. Definitely a lot has changed over the years. I remember when 'Mr. Dee's', as it is called now, used to be an A&W. Thank you for filming this and reminding me of where I was born and raised. Sincerely grateful for memories recounted.
Love being back in Kingman and Golden Valley. I want to check out the museum. Hven't been there in a while. love the history of Kingman. Ask Jim Hinkley. He'll tell you all you need to know.
Thanks for showcasing the museums you find along the way.
It’s larger than the state of Rhode Island
Northern NM stop Taos (the Pueblo) Angel Fire (Viet Nam Memorial) Santa Fe (state capital) Pecos has a memorial
Rio Doso only town I liked……NM s Flagstaff.
Buckeye reservoir Colorado rimrocker trail. My understanding is they built some of the high roller in Vegas in Kingman
Loved this. Thanks for sharing. I am traveling to these places vicariosly through you.☺
I was in Kingman on RT 66 about 3 1/2 years ago. It’s a nice place.
Awesome work thanks
Thank you too!
Are you using your phone to film this? What is holding your camera, the picture is so smooth! Love your videos.
Great information Russ. We'll be coming there in 2 weeks. What way would you take from Holbrook to Red Rock AZ? Keep up the Great video's, thank you
Always wondered what Kingman might be like in the daytime. Always went through late at night except for one time when I just couldn't stop due to a pressing schedule.
Thanks for the tour...
I was looking at possibly moving to Kingman, but the constant wind ended that thought...
