Buddy of mine and I drove from Henderson, NV traveling to Wickenburg, AZ. He didn't have much gas in the tank, but ASSURED me that he'd find a station enroute. I wasn't concerned because he lives in AZ. We drove ... and drove ... and drove ... through some pretty bleak territory, but no gas station !! Finally, we see a sign ahead for Seligman and there WAS a gas station. We came in on fumes. After a sigh of relief, I went inside and saw a souvenir Route 66 decal with "Seligman" on it. I bought it, and keep it displayed on my dashboard to remind me NEVER to forget to get gas and keep a FULL tank whenever I'm traveling through the boondocks. No problems thus far !
Im confused, if you live near Vegas you are supposed to turn on 93 to head to Wickiup then Wickenburg but you kept heading on 40 to Seligman.Unless you took the 89 at Ash Fork to Prescott down to Congress on the back roads which is really out of the way. I drive to Wickenburg all the time from Vegas.
@@tjadventures9163 I don't live near Vegas and I can't recall the exact route we took - he was driving. All I remember was that it wasn't interstate, but it was a divided highway. Our ultimate destination that day was Prescott; but I vividly recall Seligman and have the "souvenir" to remind me about the gas !
Across the Street from Roadkill Cafe is Lilo's Westside Cafe owned by my fellow German Lilo and her family. This is where the locals go and eat because the food is better and cheaper than in the Roadkill Cafe which is a tourist trap. A little background info: The owner of this cafe were in a German TV Show/Documentary when they exchanged restaurants with a family in my Bavarian hometown for a year, My grandmother used to run that German restaurant when I was young.. Their entire family ran the German restaurant while the German family ran Lilo's. Was a fun show about a decade ago. They have a big fan club in Germany LOL. Try Lilo's, you won't regret it.
@@SmittyAZ I never had potato pancakes in there ( I am sure Lily can make great ones, even I can do that LOL). I. never get farther than the giant Jaeger Schnitzel lol
I live 18 miles west of seligman in the middle of the desert and we go-to lilos every once in a while... Great food, great servers and when you get to see lilo she's as sweet as can be, we as a community lost pat her husband last year, he was such nice man. Their whole is very nice. Thanks for commenting. I hope you have a blessed week.
I just sat down with some homemade chili after a long hike with the Labrador in nearby hills. Fire up the pc and here this is. "A treat"! I really felt I was there,....with you. I know that area but always bypass Seligman on my way to Williams and the Grand Canyon. Get-there-itus. "Not the next time". Thanks for the Saturday treat Russ. Cheers and happy Memorial day all. 👍

awesome video, what a cute little place. when you were looking at the flower ,I could hear a bird squawking ,wonder if she had a nest in there? thanks for the video . I watch lots of your video"s and enjoy them. keep up the fun traveling.
thank you for this. since the late 50's my family took the 66. we'd drive cross country from san diego to Virginia, but dad would always take the 66 from beginning to end I remember staying in alot of those motels, eating at diners, such a fun time!
My parents passing through around 1966 when I was a small boy my parents rarely stopped . When we did it was the older motels so we could get them at a cheaper price.
That was a fun ride along. Boy it's been awhile since I've been to Seligman. Love the Southwest history on route 66, oh and by the way the roadkill cafe had a pretty tasty burger. They assured me it was beef 🤣🤣🤣 LOL. Thanks again Russ. As always wishing you safe travels.
Very cool! After watching Eurovision, this was nice to unwind to .. let you do the walking. I’d probably trip while talking and holding camera. Have a good day!
I took a trip that included Seligman, but when I went it was in the middle of the summer and it was still too hot for me, even tho it was cooler than Phoenix, where I'm from, so I couldn't really get out and walk around, so I appreciate you doing it and giving us a walking tour! It was also Sunday so most of the places were closed...unfortunately. I went from Phoenix to Lake Havasu, Oatman, Kingman, Seligman, Williams, Ash Fork, Flagstaff and then to Zion national park...it was a great trip but then my car totally broke down right before I hit Flagstaff on the way back and I had to use TWO of my towes in order to get it back home, the car was toast (the timing belt had broken) but it was a really great trip otherwise...first time I had ever been to the majority of those places.
My wife and I visited Saligman spring of 2021 after watching one of your earlier videos on RT66. We saw many of the neat sights. The round barn, big pop bottle, one of the many RT66 museums just to name a few. We're from Florida but love the west. Thanks for all the neat videos. 👍🙏
We were there in Seligman on 66 a few weeks ago and ate at the Road Kill Cafe which was pretty nice and not expensive. Also just looked at some of the curio shops trying to see if I could find something pretty specific but could not (got close). Very fun. Not a lot there but it is interesting.
Actually, it runs all the way to Needles, Ca, from Seligman, including my old home town of Oatman. The annual Rt. 66 Fun Run weekend is a 2 day affair, starting in Seligman, on Saturday, driving all the cool old cars to Kingman, for Saturday night, and then on to Needles on Sunday.
Hello Russ ! In California, there is a stretch of Route 66 between Exit 114 of Interstate-40 and Ludlow that was previously administered by the National Historic Trails Association but has come recently under the jurisdiction of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Some of the little bridges are in such a state of disrepair that half of this stretch has been closed to the public because it has become so dangerous. If the road had fallen under the authority of CALTRANS, these insignificant expenses would have long ago been taken care of. The CBoS will probably get the money to repair them soon. I always stop for fuel at the Shell Station where I-40 meets Route 66 east of Seligman and I slept at the Seligman KOA once. Beautiful documentary as always !! Keep it up. RICHARD P.S. The Chevrolet towtruck was a late 1960s model, they came with a 427 c.i.d. V8. I drove one of these "straightbodies" when I was 19.
You say the motel has 140 TV channels. Back in 1961 when we went through several times a motel was lucky to have 3 channels. Back then it wasn't all gussied up like it is now. The old cafes were fun back then. The movie "Cars" wasn't even thought of in 1961. That movie was made long after the demise of Route 66.
LILOs restaurant is the best restaurant on Route 66 I broke down on my semi truck there in 2000 my ubolts holding my springs on my steering axle broke they treated me like I was family I’ve been stopping ever since God bless be safe ✝️🇺🇸
Hey Russ at 21:35 you were approaching (and made a quick reference to) Angel Delgadillo's Barber Shop. Are you aware that Angel was the main force in getting the Route 66 Assn in Arizona going? It was due in part to his work, that other states soon followed suit and Route 66 associations began forming for the express purpose of restoring the wayside wonders and keeping this important piece of American highway history alive. Seligman and Route 66 is what it is today due to the work Angel put into this effort.

"ou" in French is oo as in root.

Russ, if they wanted it called "Root 66" they should have spelled it that way! We call it "Route 66" here in Virginia too! :)
