@Judy Agallar what has that got to do with contacting your representative to let them know you would like more attention, dollars allocated to the growing homeless crisis in this country?
I get what your saying but not really, He just had a family that didn't really care about him much, it doesn't give you the right to unleash your anger on everybody else though. But I'm gonna pray that God gives him the strength to survive out there and that someone can come and help him to get off the streets. Because it's just not safe, a lot of people treat homeless people pretty harsh, and rob their stuff. Lord, we intercede for those that do not have shelter of their own. @TheHumanSpeciesIsAPlague NotMeantToBeInExistence that's a terrible generalization to make; homeless men do get abused and sexually trafficked, but its society's preconceived notions about their character and “male tendencies” that make it difficult to ever come out, have their experiences known or acknowledged, and later get the help they need. You're forgetting that homeless men, like this gentleman (who broke his nose trying to learn to fight and look out for himself on the street), deal with physical confrontations solely because, as men, they have to prove their "strength" and "endurance" (even though, muscle power is the last thing that should be on their mind). And while satistically it is true that homeless women deal disproportionately with cases of sexual abuse living on the street, by saying that homeless men are their female counterpart's only molesters and abusers you further perpetuate the stereotype that men are always, or need to be, the "strongest" when they are as vulnerable just in different ways. PLEASE DO NOT UNDERMINE SOMEONE’S STRUGGLE SIMPLY BECAUSE OTHER’S HAVE IT WORSE. Homeless individuals, men and female, are part of a marginalized group with unmet needs-- regardless of men’s masculinity-- and it is not your job to decide who gets help or not based on generalized perceptions you attribute to or blame on sex. If you fail to see the radiant person he is in the way he speaks and carries himself, or take into account the three self-less wishes for his community and humanity even in spite of their ignorance and his own helplessness, know that it is you are blinded by your sweeping generalizations and biases; he has nothing to apologize for

@Pat Ehrenfeld lol that hit me "We live in a very cruel world, conceived by those calling themselves chosen" Im avoiding being homeless by being a live in caretaker for a team of racing sled dogs. I used to work at a zoo, I've volunteered at rescues. worked on farms, etc. But sled dog racing is full of abuse at a scale that is hard for me to convey to normal people. These mushers that win races are considered the experts in sled dogs. They are the ones that discovery channel interviews. So in-turn the way to keep sled dogs is centered around racing. If you recall the story about being black out drunk and attacking a store owner. That's going to get you in jail and make you lose your job. Sadly unless he chooses to get his life in order and get therapy and anger management not much will change. He's already 28 and has never had a job. I was abused and part of the abused personality type is to not believe in yourself .He doesn't have enough self worth to believe he deserves a home, a family, and stability. Also when you know nothing but chaos your brain doesn't see a "tomorrow". Thats why he had no plan when asked. You couldn't just buy this guy some clothes, an ID, and get him an apartment. That wouldn't make it all better. Hed probably feel boxed in and confined.

Oregon has great systems in place for the homeless, yet theyre all still homeless. Drugs, alcohol, etc play a major role in the outcome of a homeless persons life.
You could literally hand this guy 5 grand and a place to live, guaranteed he would go through the money quickly and still have nothing in life.
It is sad but true. I grew up in Oregon, there are lots of very genuinely nice people who are homeless. Many of them choose the lifestyle, or will never successfully get out of it because of drugs and alcohol. Rehab doesn't work, really what they need is for someone to actually take care of them like a child, and give them zero money. My father was like this, he never could make it on his own, but if he had someone in the family take him in and manage all his money, he did fine.
Adult survivors of childhood sexual assault - in order to survive such trauma the brain creates different neurological pathways. Damage. This affects every single organ in the body, not just the brain & that includes receptors in the spine.
These pathways are permanent & cause individuals to "grow up" into stunted adults. You may be correct in stating some cannot ge off the street, you may be correct in your experience with Oregon homeless resources but your judgement wreaks through the screen.
I hope you have a lovely life. Sincerely

that's a terrible generalization to make; homeless men do get abused and sexually trafficked, but its society's preconceived notions about their character and “male tendencies” that make it difficult to ever come out, have their experiences known or acknowledged, and later get the help they need. If you fail to see the radiant person he is in the way he speaks and carries himself, or take into account the three self-less wishes for his community and humanity even in spite of their ignorance and his own helplessness, know that it is you are blinded by your sweeping generalizations and biases; he has nothing to apologize for
@@fanoor2427 even if he wasnt abused, any assessment of the situation not factual or based only our whilsical perceptions of others is unacceptable. If this man did in fact abuse other homeless women, it would be equally unfair to generalize that the vast majority of other homeless men do too; its the same as associating terrorism with religious symbols (or, similarly, calling everyone that doesnt voluntarily denounce or dissociate from extreme beliefs, fundamentalists). Its ironic that even though the aim of channels like this is to educate people and rid them of the many base-less and stereotypical assumptions that surround homelessness as well as remind them of the sensitivity of this subject, there are often people that still go on to suggest that there can only be one reality.

Been there. Got out. Sold out to the 9-5 world. There are pros and cons to both lifestyles, really. Someone who's never been homeless for years like this? It's impossible to describe what that actually feels like. It's black and empty. It's sad to see so many people harp on these guys saying his problem is he wished for world peace instead of a house and job.
When you've been that far down for that long, a house and a job and a "normal" life not only looks kind of unattractive, it feels unobtainable. He's likely tried to get on his feet before and been rejected or failed. There's only so much a person can take before they resign themselves and I hope these assholes here acknowledge how lucky their circumstances are that they literally can't sympathize with a homeless person, because they've never known anything like it.

Now let me be one of those "assholes. Where did he get those tats, hair dye job and the jewellery in his ear? Those are clearly visible choices he made. And I know tats aren't cheap.
And I noticed he was holding back words when the interviewer placed the words "you aren't homeless by choice" in his mouth.
I also noticed him arguing he doesn't want people controlling him. Which is what you often hear homeless people say when they are offered help, which is often conditional. Because organizations who actually help don't just unconditionally give money to people who spend it on drugs, tats or jewellery.
And when a person like that finally accepts the help that he needs and goes in to therapy. The therapist is mainly going to focus on his choices and his actions and their consequences. They're not going to just sit there and pat him on the back and tell him he is nothing but a victim.
Not one of his wishes involved him HAVING or OWNING anything.
