    The only glaring problem I see with this pond is, how in the world are you going to get anything done around the farm. I mean who would not be there fishing everyday? Looks great. The view from the ATV really shows the depth and areas around the lake. Looks awesome.

    The lake build is coming along great!! Having built a ten acre pond back in 2003 you have a awesome team building the pond bringing your and their ideas together, this is going to be a beautiful monster bass factory! I hate you had to bring in the needed clay, we were blessed to have had all we needed on site.
    I have a few more suggestions that you may have or have not considered: add a open/ close valve and bottom drain to control water levels, having the ability to drop the lake level in advance of flood conditions and for maintenance is so helpful, would eliminate the need for a extenal pump to drop the lake when needed, add a deep water pickup that extends down over the vertical stand pipe which doubles as trash rack that allow the water level to be maintained but drawn from much lower in the water column instead of from the surface this will dramatically help with maintaining alge blooms after fertilization and removed decomposing bottom materials while helping create lower current or you considering bottom aeration? Additionally, consider adding very large spawning mats in your spawning areas and then cover them with your planned pea gravel, it keeps gravel from sinking into the bottom and help keep the silt over time from burying them, the bass, bluegill and other forage fish will have a easier time fanning them out when making beds and will last much longer. Lastly, again for insurance with the dam being so large and L shaped I still would add a second emergency spillway for coverage on both ends of the dam one activating sooner then the other in a flood. Those road beds and drop offs are going to be killer! Can wait to see your structure placement. Don't be afraid to make the series clips longer we love them😊.

  • @MrLunkerChaser
    @MrLunkerChaser 2 роки тому +54

    From the island to the edge of the pond you should put a “bridge” to connect them and use telephone poles as bases. In the summer that would provide additional shade for the fish, the telephone poles being course would promote algae growth for the shad to feed on and you can even string some lights in them as well.
    You should set up a series of 4 or more different cameras in different parts of the pond to see how the fish relate and act in different covers.

    • @PurpleDrac
      @PurpleDrac 2 роки тому +6

      and what of the coyotes and their uncanny field vision? what if they see the bridge then decide to c'mon over for snack. 🧐

    • @MrLunkerChaser
      @MrLunkerChaser 2 роки тому

      @@PurpleDrac OK so I actually thought about this. Wouldn’t it be cool if maybe he put it on like a winch like a mini drawbridge and like left the telephone pole bases where they were and made a walking platform that was on a winching system and all he would have to do is go to it or even maybe do it remotely and be able to winch it up and down and like obviously you know at night leave it up or he could even make it tall and leave it like a gate and be able to open and close it without worrying about the ducks getting harmed.

    • @PurpleDrac
      @PurpleDrac 2 роки тому

      unless he was 🤔to barricade it? but all depending on the structure might look tacky. So I still say no 🧐

I have fought this battle and people don't care what you say or do to deter their efforts. Fences, Gates and Signs do not even slow them down. But, when you show them the business end of a gun they seem to get the message. I am sorry to say it has to go that far but it will and that is what it will take to stop it. We have a 128 foot, 3 foot high island near the middle of our 3.5 acre pond/dam and settled our ducks on it by adding cat tails and papyrus to the edges.
    For housing we use three plastic pallets with an "A" frame of recycled corrugated iron (hail damaged roofing from the neighbors house) over the top of some limited amount of straw that we put available for them in each 'hide'/'nest'. They hide amongst the reeds and, with a small area of grass on the top (kept short by the two geese) we have a very successful breeding group of ducks supplying us with enough duck eggs to make the occasional cake.
    Since the ducks were originally 'wild' and we just found them milling about on the pond after we built the thing, we have NEVER fed them anything so the cost has been minimal.
    So - some form of reeds - suitable for the area you are - and some form of home would make for duck heaven on the island

    We didn't have to build our own fishing pond, the rock quarry people did it for us👍

    I put some bluegill in my swimming pool to see what they would do, and almost all of them gravitated toward the stairs. So, I suggest adding stair step structures below the waterline to maximize fish holding structure. This also helps to maximize underwater Earth surface area which helps to regulate temperature. Cinderbloc is about the best way to achieve this, but still looking for alternatives

      I think y'all should just list the local mortuary phone number right under the Keep Out sign. And make sure you collect all your used shotgun shells next time you go to the range - leave 'em laying around the entrance for the dumbasses to see. Some stupid ones can't read a lick, but they understand that kinda message...

    • @smashdtrash3432
      @smashdtrash3432 2 роки тому

      Doesn’t taste bad, tastes good if you cook it right. Super easy to catch, you can usually get a good meal with a small 4 or 5 lb bass. If your starving or fishing for your food you’ll eat whatever.

    • @fishingwithbigchris5470
      @fishingwithbigchris5470 2 роки тому

      @@smashdtrash3432 Didnt say it tasted bad but blue gill are easy to catch and taste better. I would never eat a bass that big. Those fish are not long from being trophies in my state so I want them to get bigger. If I absolutely had to eat a bass it would be a 1.5 to 2 lber at the most.
