Hi Cris I’m 68 years young , and just got back from the driving range, and that was exactly what I was doing wrong. Your explanation of throwing the club head and using the weight of the iron head to advance through the ball instead of pushing it was one of the best explanations I’ve heard. Thank You so much for your videos.

Great video. It took me years to figure out this move. It is the most important move if you want to improve distance and accuracy. The throwing move also helps get the weight shifted forward as a side benefit which helps eliminate fat shots. Keeping the backswing swing on plane is important to help the throwing motion be consistent and accurate.

Best friend is doing this. You sourced it to the right elbow. This corrects so many other things that would never be remedied without first identifying the elbow as the root cause and starting there. Respect! Thank you Sir!

I love how you start this video showing the push against the wall vs. the long throw. It makes sense. Then a little further into your lesson you revealed a wizard move: keep your left arm stationary and initiate the right elbow forward. It's a strange feel, like it's not even my body swinging the club. It feels like the effort I put into into the swing is better sequenced and more powerful. For anyone trying this this or any other drill check if your head is directly over your right thigh at impact and follow through. Thus is how Pros end up on their lead foot and rear toe while their chest id up and their hips are forward.

Great video, I been a push and a throw golfer. Prob every year. Early in the season I’m a push golfer, by end of the season I’m throwing. Reason I push is because it give me more control some consistency with shaft lean and compress the ball. Throwing require more timing and “accuracy” on not miss hitting. End up hitting fat a lot or sweeping the ball. But by end of the season my swing is in good sequence and timing is on point. I can throw the club at the ball and have a much consistent low point.

This was the one video that I needed. I always tried to get into all these positions in the right sequence at the right time to move the club through the ball. I found it really difficult. Now that I throw the club. I find all these positions happens by themselves in the right sequence at the right time. When you throw underhand you only think of throwing with your arms but the body does everything it suppose to. I had to unlearn the body movement first and I had to learn to throw down the line and allow the body to support the throw. The harder I throw the more intense my body movements but I don't really have to think about it. I just think of throwing to the target.

Great lesson and drill demo(s)...helped me to better understand what throwing the clubhead (and not just pushing the shaft) at the ball is all about. I was struggling with the (late) Mike Austin's suggestions to just start throwing the clubhead at the top of the backswing..I could not
get the timing aligned with this method at all!! Your trail elbow drill: pointing down to the ball, is a terrific suggestion and perfectly usable technique for really throwing the clubhead with power and good contact.
    Thanks for posting.

Hey Chris. I absolutely love the way you explained this. I've always had a bit of problems with that coming over the top on the downswing but never really knew how to fix it or the feeling I should have (which you explained so well). I've watched a lot of videos on this but yours is the BEST explanation on how to correct a poor start to the downswing. Thank you so much.

Another great video Chris, Thank you. I have actually tried this shallowing move a few times and what I feel is the weight of the club head fall behind my hands at the start of the downswing which makes my trail elbow stay in the throwing position. At first it felt sooo wrong but when I concentrate on doing it the ball strike is so good.

Have been viewing ur vids for awhile trying to repair my upright throwing swing and many were interesting but not relevant as have to swing upright due to back issues. Then just saw this gem and just nudging the end of my right elbow to ball gets the whole shebang shallowing and throwing like the skip rocks or overhand throw. I used to overly push the right elbow or try to drop/unload onto ball or throw with excessive elbow movement into body and none of these worked well or hurt too much, and when and if they temporarily worked did so for irons only. Now I do a one piece mostly L arm takeaway then load the R elbow/arm into slightly more vertical but still wide BSwing. Then by nudging the R elbow down to lead, everything falls into place, hands lead shaft and nice shallow path into ball with all clubs. I try to rotate thru with R hip closer to target in the finish, feels like I am getting body involved for more power and consistency not just an arm throw. THanks, will look at a few of ur other related R elbow and throw vids but this one is golden.

In the competitions it's like I brake and I'm afraid to let go. I have to work on it...thanks
