    Gigabyte did get back to me regarding the additional info I requested, by linking me to this review by Steve's Hardware lol. He does go over VRM design and some more technical info I didn't have access to when I recorded this. ➡ steveshardware.com/2022/10/30/gigabyte-z790-aero-g-review-overview-and-teardown/

    That red usb at the bottom is marked, "BIOS". It's extremely handy and I had to use it when I first bought the board. If you don't care about RGB, this is an amazing board. It runs cooler and quieter than any board I've ever had, even when gaming with a i5-12700k and 3060Ti.

    This was the most helpful review I have found for this motherboard yet.
    Also, Visionlink is using the graphics card video and passing it through the USB-C port for an all in one cable for a drawing tablet, rather than a 3-in-1 which often splits fron the tablet into a USB, HDMI, and Power.

    8:24 thanks for the confirmation that the M2 EZ-Latch is **not** present for the M2 drive that will cover the wifi controller - despite it showing in the manual that it does, I hope I have a screw somewhere. Building my Z790 Aero G at the moment and am looking to populate all four bottom M2 slots as I don't want to lose anything to the GPU by using the Gen5 slot.

    • @GlennMartinPhotography
      @GlennMartinPhotography Рік тому +1

      Follow up to my comment now that I have built the system. The M2 slot over the wifi controller doesn't have a ez-latch because that is where the screw from the heatsink goes into (bottom left one). So basically you put the drive in the slot, sticking up, and gently it will press down as you put the heatsink over everything and then is screwed into place.

    Curious if you ever ran into problems with all 4 ram slots populated? I ended up having to drop down to 64 gig because of stability issues with 4 sticks. Not running XMP or anything and the memory was on the Memory Support List.

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому

      Initial boot was rough with 128gb of ram. Ultimately I got 2x 64gb 5200mhz kits (32gb sticks) Corsair vengeance ram working at 4800mhz. Keep in mind JDEC spec for dual channel dual rank ddr5 is 3600mhz, so 4800mhz in my case is actually a pretty decent overclock.

    How bout that build, I see at the end you may have done some troubleshooting.
    @13:50 🤔 if I have the same prob. Also using 128gb RAM or not making contact to water block 🤔

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому

      I’ll be honest, I don’t remember what the issue was lol. Something stilly though. Maybe related to 128gb of ram on an older bios. It may have just took a really long time to boot. I think it was just memory training forever.

    Would a Corsair H150i go into the CPU_OPT header or the SYS_FAN_PUMP?

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому +1

      Ultimately it doesn’t matter, as the main purpose of those names on the fan headers are for identification purposes. I believe the fan cable like connector that comes off the pump is just RPM signal reporting of the pump speed, and the h150i powers the pump through the sata power cable connected to the pump. This means that whatever header you connect the h150i to will be the one that reports pump speed in bios or in a software like hwmonitor. Hope this helps.

      @@ultraprecisiontechnologies Alright thanks. And one more question, will the PCIE x16 run in x8 mode if I use the gen4 M.2 slot in the lower heatsink?

    I have just used this board in a new build and I am having issues shutting it down. Every time I shut down, it restarts itself and goes into bios. This is the second board from a different seller I am having this issue with. I returned the first one to the seller because I believed that I was sold a faulty board. But I am still having the same issue with the new board from a new seller.
    Any thing I need to tweak to stop it restarting?
    I should add that this is my first time building on a Gigabyte board. I have a previous build with an ASUS board and the build was a breeze

      I wonder if this is related to the recent intel instability issues. Make sure you're on the latest bios! Could also be a degraded CPU if it's used.

    7:48 is so important to know. Can you please tell me, is this the same on all mainboards with this chipset, or is it structured differently depending on the manufacturer/mainboard? i want to use the top m.2 without the gpu having to run on x8
    Love😊

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому

      I can’t say for sure, but I believe this a limitation of available PCIe lanes, but how motherboard vendors allocate those lanes can be unique. It’s important to look up the manual and see how things are connected. Also, note that you may be totally fine running your gpu at 8x if you’re not saturating the pcie express 5.0 bus. (Pcie 4.0 x16 = same bandwith as pcie 5.0 x8)

    • @nadtz
      @nadtz Рік тому

      Don't know if you ever got an answer to this but it depends on the board. Intel's spec is 20 CPU PCIE lanes and 8 DMI lanes, how that gets split up exactly depends on the manufacturer. As stated a pcie 4 GPU at x8 will be fine even at gen 4 x8 (like 1% loss), never mind gen5 x8.

    question, why not putting the gen 4 on the pci5, any specific reason ? i put mine there.. PLease let me know if i should not.

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому +1

      A gen 4 drive is only ever going to run at gen 4 speeds, max. by using the gen 5 m.2 slot, you are bifurcating (splitting) the gen 5 x16 PCIe lanes into 8x on your x16 GPU PCIe slot and x4 to the m.2. Put simply, you're cutting you x16 PCIe slot your gpu is plugged into in half for no reason. Does this matter? It depends on how powerful of a GPU you have installed, or other gen 5 PCIe card that would saturate all x16 lanes.

    Could you please tell me where its better to place 2 ssd on this motherboard?

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому

      If you're referring to NVME m.2 SSDs, pause the video at 7:42 and look at the block diagram. Likely, you DO NOT want to use MC2_CPU. This is a Gen 5 PCIe lane and if populated will cut your top PCIe x16 slot down to 8x gen 5.
      Likely if you use any of the other M.2 slots that are PCIe 4.0, you will be fine. If you plan on using your 2 drives in RAID, you may choose to use a pair of M.2 slots that are both connected to the z790 chipset, vs using one gen4 M.2 off the CPU, and one gen4 M.2 off the chipset. This is likely less important however.

    • @ultraprecisiontechnologies
      @ultraprecisiontechnologies  Рік тому +1

      I would purposely seek a m.2 that does not have a heat sink, as the one on the board will likely have more surface area, and removing factory heatsinks can be quite challenging and even damage the m.2 because of the strong thermal adhesive that is sometimes used.

      @@ultraprecisiontechnologies I’ll tell you what mate I hope it works for you I had a nightmare. I have a suspicion that the GPU never seated properly on that board that’s why it crashed when going to x16. I ordered a Arous elite ax and returned the areo everything just works first time and I can get 7000mhz easy it’s a great board. So is the areo I think I had a bad one or the GPU issue just check that it’s right in there I couldn’t as much as I tried I think maybe the big heat sinks are stopping it to be seated properly so just be careful.
      Also fyi the areo has 8 pin and a 4 pin to power the CPU and the elite ax has 2x 8 pin just something to consider when getting a psu.
      Also fyi put your ssd on the slot just under the main PCIE.
      Please get back to me when you have the components I would love to know if it works for you. The point when it crashed for me was installing nvdia drivers so try that first.

      You won’t be able to use XMP with 128gb of ram. This is a limitation of the memory controller, and is considered completely normal and within spec. DDR5 JDEC spec for 128gb of ram is 3600mhz. Anything over that is overclocking. (When dealing with 128gb of ram)

I do apologize if you don’t find value in going over all the features of a board and what they mean, as well as pcie lane layouts and explanations, but I’d like to think these types of videos do help people understand what they are buying, and open the door to discussion in the comment section if they have specific technical questions about a board.
