Ha, that's how I bought a MSI X399 SLI Plus motherboard and the 2990WX CPU in 2018. A long with a VEGA 56 GPU that I doubled, I was returning the PC industry after a 6 year hiatus and I remember having so many teething issues with that CPU.
Fast forward to today I've finely tuned that 2990WX to provide top ZEN+ single thread performance, and exceptional MT performance, only topped by its successors (3975WX and up)

Great video on the nuances of higher end motherboards. My issue that I currently have is a build that has good support for a 2 gpu setup for GPU rendering. Obviously Threadripper will give the bandwidth for full gen 5 pci-e 16 slots. However, because current (and it would seem near future) gpus are only gen 4, it really is wasting the pci-e lanes. I'd really like to see manufacturers release hybrid gen 5 x8/gen 4 16x gpus, though they probably don't because of expense. Can you do a video on how well 2 gpu setups run on these motherboards for renderers like me?

It matters a lot, Redshift handles multiple GPU's very well and I'm only thinking two GPUs. But on consumer boards if you stick two GPUs in and it switches to 8x/8x mode, and the GPU's are on Gen 4, then they're running at 8x gen 4, which is the same as 16x gen 3. It's a waste of gen 5 lanes. This means perhaps only threadripper is a decent option. @@frp1276

On a similar topic, I often do some 4k recording. Files typically over 40gb but more importantly nearly a terrabyte of footage at the end of a session. Currently writing onto a 4tb P3 nvme, works fine but curious as to if this is fine for the drive's health? Should I be investing into something else? Mostly just concerned by the amount of write cycles I'm doing daily.

    • @frp1276
      @frp1276 8 місяців тому +4

You can monitor the drive's health with their software. A higher end drive will have more endurance generally. You could also use enterprise disks which can have wild endurance.

if you ever change your drives. Look up for the most TWB terabytes written, but I did notice there is a new higher way to measure which is PTW : petabytes written. With those drives youll have plenty of life to write and write. Ive seen entersprise SSDs like intel second hand those drives do have a bunch of like spam, too. But with the higher PTW drives you could find, you;d be fine.

I'm looking into a future proof pc for davinci resolve, my favourite would be the asus pro art z790 with i9 14700k and probably rtx 4080.
I'm hoping to start with a medium build now and then slap addons and a 2. Gpu in the system as my skills and needs evolve over the years.
However, the recent criticism of asus because of quality and warranty is giving me some headacke, would you still recommend it? Is it really a "buy one,cry one" or are there better choices out there?

I dont want to be that guy, but MSI Z690 Ace does in fact support integrated graphics cpu video on that usb-c connector that has the tiny little DP mark next to it. I need some guidance. I am not a creator, but I am a software engineer and I like to create virtual machines on my PC and also do occasional gaming at 1080p and some video processing with Cyberlink PowerDirector. The main usage is software development and virtualization though. I went with a Gigabyte X570S Aero G MB and a Ryzen 5900x (with superb results!) but I do not know which motherboard is best for my type of scenario. Gigabytes aero z690 ddr5 or msi pro-A z790 ddr5.
Msi costs slightly more than gigabyte (about 20-30 usd) ..
Now the question is, does it make sense to go for the newer chipset (msi) while losing a few creator focused features like visionlink.
Or should i stick with aero and save a few bucks.

YOU GOT IT WRONG ON MSI ACE, let me explain... You said it very correctly, if it doesn't have on-board graphics support, which you can easily tell by looking at whether or not it has video out (HDMI/Display Port) on the board, then it doesn't support the iGPU, right? If you look at the ACE board, it has onboard graphics support clearly stated on the spec sheet, and it also has a display port via the 10gbit type C port. The one with display port symbol. It baffled me that even der8aur got it wrong! Look a second time and make corrections because that is very misleading even though not intentional. The Godlike on the other hand, you hit the bulls eye and not only does it not have display port or on-board HDMI support, the spec sheet also clearly shows the luck of iGPU support. I like your style of content, but this one you missed with a landslide!

I have an asus Hero X670E, it is as good as the X670E for creators, but I am afraid that the last CPU what will be supported for that MoBo will be the 9950x with only 16Cores / 32 Threads. After that, AMD will increase the cores, and this won't work with that MoBo (because in other forums some wrote that this is fact, but I hope they are wrong). The next gen Cpu 8950x won't be interesting for me, as it will be similar to the 7950x but just with a much better GPU part. So the next interesting CPU will be the 9950x what is rumored to be up to 40% faster than the 7950x and it will support faster RAM. So for me it is only one real generation what will still be supported by the X670E, I was hoping to be safe for 5 years with that moBo, but it will be more like just one year. At least this is what I understood from the rumors, and the 9950x should come out in late 2024.

You are just talking marketing bullshit, „ the name has creator in, so it great for creators“, „it has 10gig so it’s for creators“.
There are a lot of motherboards that can be good for creators, you can add very affordable pcie card to any motherboards with enough pcie slot to get 10gig/25gig/40gig network and thunderbolt. Thunderbolt and 10g network on the board is nice but not necessary. these boards are very overpriced for what they are and their features .
You don’t even mention any features besides 10gig and thunderbolt, no word about VRM, storage options, pcie bifurcation or pcie lane allocation. I will admit the 3 month adobe cloud is a useful rebait if you use it.

Asus X670E ProArt offers terrible power delivery compared to other vendors!
    They offer 16 phases 70A.
ASRock X670E Taichi, for instance, offer 24 phases 105A!
    That's a massive difference!
The 10G Ethernet is a bit irrelevant, since not many internet providers offer that.
In my region, 1Gbps is the max.

..you need to redo your sponsored segment audio. Probably was the most passive visually and actually very audibly pleasant sponsored segment. It is now confused and distracting, and just shoddy...

Hope you aren't the one that screwed over GearSeekers by having this board before him, overtightening the cpu and not putting the cpu cover back. Whoever did that, would be a greasy pathetic turd.
