I am crying right now, because I my time is almost up due to cancer, thank you Bonnie and John…..
Hugs to you. I hope you dwell in peace.
I hear ya, this is probably my last summer,,, ever, so I'm chipping away at my bucket list and giving back as much as I can before the clock runs out.
Jesus is Lord and died for our sins.
RIP QUEEN

These gals are more than wonderful. I know John Prime is smiling now.😎🇨🇱
Old girl still sings like an angel. This song, written by a 21 year-old MAN (John Prine) still makes me bawl like a baby, fifty years on.
Who doesn't absolutely love Bonnie Raitt??
How can you not?? She is such a generous spirit and a warm heart. Amazing lady, so much talent, so much class.
I wanna be Ms. Bonnie when I grow up!
John Prine wrote this, Bonnie Raitt and Ruthie Foster give it everything it deserves. God bless them all.
John is now in a bad way.
@@holboroman I am saddened at his passing. Best to you through this time and after.
@@holboroman I am afraid I used bad information in a response. I apologize and am praying for his and others full recovery.
@@johnwilliams7922 Sometimes it is comforting to find out that something has not happened. That's ok. I have an emotional attachment to that song. A while back I spent about 18 months living in NE China. When my wife and I returned home we had to self isolate. In China I missed playing with friends at home, so I used to regularly take my acoustic guitar and play for a few hours in an open space downstairs where we were staying. I used to enjoy playing "Angel From Montgomery" as well as other favourites. Everything is connected, this song, a lovely time with my wife, the love she gave me, how she looked after me when I had a viral infection (no not this dreaded one) a city I grew to love but had to flee because of that dreaded virus and I'm now listening to "Murder Most Foul" by Dylan................ I'm convinced Dylan released it to soothe us in these trying times.
@@holboroman so you heard Mr. Prine has passed on? If true he's in a much better place. He can walk the streets of glory and when he sees someone he knows he'll recognize them...and they can embrace with NO FEAR.
LOVEjoy isn't lovin zombieville😪 USN.😱💀👻
This song will forever be a testament to the song writing talent of Mr John Prine. John could become a veteran with PTSD, an old man looking back on life with his forever wife, a young boy who witnessed the tragedy of the loss of one of his peers and express the grief he carried with him into his old age.
With this song he entered the mind of woman looking at life lived and the hardship and pain of doing so. Unlike these two women who do have the voice of angels, John didn't have the voice of a great singer, BUT his songs carried him to the top of the heap. Even after his operation, it didn't matter that his voice was ruined, his fans stood by him to the end.
Is she a Philly local?
Blessings to sweet John...
Awww.

John lost his old voice, but his post cancer voice had a quality to it that added a new layer to many of his songs. In my view his “new” voice perfectly suited his last album.
I'm fairly certain the guitar Bonnie is playing belongs to Stephen Bruton (RIP). It is a 1975 Martin D-28 and I was in the Dallas guitar shop the day he bought it. I worked with Stephen on many occasions back in the 1980s and am lucky to have called him friend. He had a towering talent and is sorely missed.🥲
I met Ruthie and her band at Philadelphia International airport while we both catching flights to Austin but on different airlines. What a treasure and humble talent. I listened to years long before the meeting but this meeting was great. People know and love Bonnie but now you need to discover the talent of Ruthie Foster
I love this song when Bonnie does it solo, but Ruthie Foster is a really AWESOME addition!
Two beautiful women singing one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Godspeed Mr. Prine
Many prayers go out to John Prine this evening... Who is listening?!
Hear you Sheri. Johns a shining light
Shedding tears tonight. Amen. One soul another onto something better I hope.
Always
Thank you, John, for all that you have done for good music. May your spirit live on through your contributions
from Kochi (Kerala) India - 2nd May 2020 - we are with ya
Aight I’m a Philly boy and I just cried my ass off that was beautiful
Godspeed John Prine - you made this living such a beautiful way for all of us.
YES TO THE zillionth POWER AMEN
What a beautiful version of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. "To believe in this livin'
Is just a hard way to go." You can't say it any better.
first hearing Ruthie Foster wow life has blessed us again with such talent! This an enormous favorite song by Bonnie for me. This is one of those songs that gives me chills and brings an old man to tears! Reminds me of my Grandfather who would come in from the fields of his farm and sit in his chair by the window looking out at his world for hours without talking just deep in his thoughts! The line about how can a person have nothing to say. He was a WW1 veteran and as I matured and learned of the trenches I don't know of what he thought but I'm sure he deserved his thoughts!
I have tears running down my face and dripping onto my chest.
John Prine writes such remarkable stories.
And Bonnie Raitt has delivered this so authentically for the better part of a half century.
But these days she infuses so many miles of living into it that it becomes something even more special.
Props to Ruthie Foster, the band, and the strings on this version as well.
Thank you to everyone who had a hand in putting this together, and putting it out here for those of us who were not present.
I'm an old broke down cowboy. This makes me leak, too.
@@blondbowler8776 @ 3 minutes in, when Foster starts, you can see one of the string players wipe tears away before she starts to play.
I only saw this because I had just wiped tears away myself...
I’m just a Corsican woman of 56 who feels she hardly had the good bites of life, and no angel nor cowboy came, Bonnie sang it all, and I strive not to cry because I already cried enough and it didn’t made it better.
" infuses so many miles of living into it "? WOW! How do you even come up with something so exquisite like that?
@@6Gutterstar9The hell is wrong with us, eh? This song and these two artists have me weepier than usual at the old stuff.
Bonnie Raitt and Ruthie Foster- the best of two generations of blues ballad singers.
This is so beautiful it is impossible to listen without being moved. Two of my musical heroes on stage at the same time. Heaven.
That takes a lot of talent to just jump up and sing a verse of that out of memory and back that up like that especially without any rehearsal just scary up like a bird having to fly.
I was at this concert and I will always remember how I felt ... my spirit and my heart were lifted into the heavens as their songs traveled into the universe. All the folks who performed throughout the day shared pure love and we received it.
Bonnie - We've shared spaces for many decades. I love you, Congrats on your successes. Hope to see you soon. Thank you for everything. You changed my life.
RIP John. What a masterpiece
Yes. Truly. This song has seen all parts of the world in the quantity of recordings available. John Prine could break my heart with his voice any day of the week.
Truly a masterpiece. You are correct.
She has done nothing but kick musical ass her entire career👍👍
My heart. No words. Just big feelings and tears.
In my opinion music has the power to heal and bring us all together like nothing else.
Why does UA-cam wait six years to recommend this? Two legendary women performing a song written by a legend.
Seen Ruthie Saturday night on Austin City Limits such a Awesome song RIP John Ms Bonnie helped me out through the yrs 👋👋👋✌💙
Phenomenally moving. I love the way Ruthie walks off at the end like she just finished doing business at the bank. Must be nice to have that kind of natural talent.
RIP John Prine. Your music lives on. Another tragic loss for us all from this terrible disease.
What an absolutely gorgeous duet. Bonnie, you will always be a national treasure. Ruthie, I can't wait to discover your music. Much love to you both!
Bonnie is a treasure, but I'm gonna go now and look up more of Ruthie's work!
Goose bumpy beautiful and tearful. Beautiful rendition by two awesome women. Thank you.
Taking NOTHING away for the incredible Ms. Raitt, but the REAL musicians are in the band. My daughter was a music major, and it's very hard: not only did she have all the regular core courses, but she had all her practices, rehearsals and performances - it's very similar to being a college athlete.
John Prine: there aren't words for how your music affects me. RIP, and say Hi to Jimi and Janis!
Bonnies voice can break hearts, it’s so beautiful. John Prine is an absolute legend. Prayers from Derry. 🙏🏻
Hi Derry,hi from Tyrone.
Beautiful rendition…
I was lucky enough to see Bonnie sing this song in a small venue back in the 1970’s and I fell in love.
Then I was lucky again to see Susan Tedeschi sing it in a different small venue in the 80’s.
My hope is to round it all out by seeing Grace Potter cover it live as well…
RIP John ❤️🙏
Because of the great blues guitar work of Bonnie Raitt, we now have some great female blues guitarists like Susan Tedeschi, Samantha Fish and Joanne Shaw Taylor to name a few. Bonnie is such a class act.
Bonnie Raitt & Ruthie Foster! Great combination. Love that full band with the violins!!! Fiddles!!! Great song. Deep.
Another flawless performance of one of my favorite songs.
Amazing! If my soul had lyrics it would be this song.
We still love this beautiful voice, born 1954. We are the lucky baby boomers👍🇦🇺
Bonnie Raitt is the woman I look to for an example of how to grow in age and inspire others
JulieAnn Nichols-Johnson Me too. She never lets us down.
Bonnie Raitt is a musical treasure.
A priceless treasure!

Ruthie is too.
Intention and Love go along way and Bonnie carries it everywhere she goes.
Absolutely love her music, but her politics are like "flies in the kitchen"!
Holy cow! I'm a big Bonnie fan, and have never heard of Ruthie Foster. But, man! These two women sound like they are sisters! Ruthie just got a new fan!
yes yes yes
Ruthie reminds me so much of JJ Cale. Flew under the average fans radar until they ended up right in your face and you're like "DAMN, why have I never heard of this person?" I got to Ruthie through Larkin Poe. I got back to Bonnie through Susan T.
That's the talent and the sincerity of Bonnie Raitt.
Me too.☘️
I've seen Ruthie Foster twice in St Louis. Wonderful woman, great singer, great musician!!
Best performance ever! Bonnie just gets better and better and Ruthie I just discovered today. Can’t get enough of her. Wow.
Beautiful rendition written by one of the greatest song writers. Rest In Peace, John. Your music will live on and on.
Beautiful song. An angel for sure
Simply the best. Right from the heart
Two months later and I’m back to hear Bonnie!
I was absolutely moved. Felt it in my soul.
Thank you Mr. Prine.
Godspeed you home. 😪
JOhn is an Angel now. Smoking really long cigarettes....My life was changed by his music
- and banging away on his guitaar !!!!
Two years later, as I was watching, and Ruthie starts singing, "How the hell can a person...", at some point you can read Bonnie's lips, and it looks like she's saying, "Nice." That's kudos you want from an artist like Bonnie.
Tasty as .......
If that didn't bring a tear to your eye you ain't alive son.
John you’ll never know how this song got me through one of the hardest moments in my life.
Lisa Stallings Keelor You are not alone in that thought, Darlin.
Lovely tribute to John.
I saw Ruthie Foster must have been over 12 years ago at a flea market in Austin, she was amazing and still is!
Sometimes time stand still thank you Bonnie
Bonnie’s voice rings, so strong and authentic.
Got my start running sound in Bryan, Texas at the 2 clubs downtown that didn't have country acts. Ruthie got her start there (well, she was in the Navy Band, I think), and every time she played, it was a packed house! I loved every minute of her shows. She could so nail the vocals!
Two of my favourites!❤
Perfect...Thank you both!
I hope you are all still here. I love Angel from Montgomery ❤
Beautiful! Bravo John!
That was the most beautiful rendition of this song I've ever heard!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
John Prine should be an inspiration to us all. RIP Mr. Prine, we will hold you in our hearts and listen to your songs forever
Truly beautiful tune. I danced to the Raitt/Prine version on my wedding day back in 93. Brings a tear to my eye every time.
Just f****** beautiful! And that red hair! What a beautiful woman and artist.
I always liked Bonnie. We’re about the same age and I hear that in her voice. I used to play this song using John Prine’s chords. Gonna go pick up my guitar. Thanks Bonnie. And John.
I love Bonnie and John Prine! I am so excited to hear you Ruthie!
Love John Prine and I always think how the hell can a person go to work in the morning come home in the evening with nothing to say. Very sad day but at least we will always have his music.
So beautiful and so missed are you Mr Prine.
thank you Bonnie and Ruthie and JOhn Prine for one of the most beautiful tear jerking songs of all times. Anthony
An amazing performance by two amazing women 🙏❤🎤🎶
Wow! That was phenomenal! I am getting a bit teared up. I've listened to Bonnie's other versions and love them. But these ladies sounded so good together.
D...A...M...N...ladies. thankyou, truly.
Chills down my spine! Beautiful duet Bonnie and Ruthie!
I’m a huge fan of John Prine, the man has written so many great songs, but this one simply has a life of its own. Simply breathtaking.
Fantastic harmony!
This kind of music reaches inside and touches your very soul and sometimes tears escape from your eyes. Bonnie and Ruthie Foster, whom I plan to seek out more of, did more than justice to this John Prine masterpiece. Fly high, John! You left us with so much to inspire us.
Bonnie Raitt. Man, this woman has been so important in the rock and folk music world. I am 67 and when I was 14 I went to my first concert in Oakland, California. It was the awesone Blind Faith. Bonnie Raitt opened for them in a group called Delany, Bonnie and Friends. I remember her then short hair and big bell bottom pants and her beautiful big voice. And she is still going strong today and still looks great. A true classic. The young woman sounds amazing as well.
@Clint Barnes You are right. And all this time I thought I saw Bonnie Raitt. Haha
Bonnie Raitt is friggin killer here. Her butter baby voice of the seventies is fine and mellowed and her slide is remarkable. Love you lady. Haha oh and her performance happened on my kiddos 31st bd! 🥳
Mesmerizing rendition with an all encompassing ensemble of very dedicated artists. Truly beautiful to each this performance.
Bonnie has ALWAYS been perfection!!! Hasn't let me down in the 45 yrs I've been listening!!!
Ruthie Foster is one of my favorite artists, and the music these two make together is simply beautiful beyond words.
Bonnie is special... what a great musician, Ruthie sounds great too!
Ruthie voice can blow away any famous woman singers. Why she isn't more famous I don't get. See her live and you'll agree
That was beautiful. They did John proud. May he rest in peace.
What I love most about Bonnie is her courage to recover from substance abuse. The pain is written over face and inspires me to try harder for EVERYTHING without the luxury of excuses
i got me almost 31 yrs clean mean and sometimes serene,. if i can do it(i wasnt supposed to live beyond 16 and here i am 63 and a half)-trust me this virus aint killed the monkeys on my back and theyre sure not resting any, music, bein on disability and i got no hustle any more is keepin' my ass clean right now-and the guilt if i picked it back up would kill me-not the booze or dope. i am no saint or bettern any one else. i just remember that guy with a .45 on a beat to shit kitchen table and i and he fired one over my head...nothing i want EVER repeated. stay STRONG and be safe. out of a group of 5 of us-i am the only one still alive=talk about one HELL of a miracle.
"To beliieve in this livin' is just a hard way to go". What a great line.
This is such a beautiful blend of two song birds.
We love John, tears are running down my face as i type this. Get Well NOW..
Stay safe Kim, we love you too
I feel the same. He beat cancer, now this.
i hear you. i havent stopped cryin-saw him at the Somerville Theater in Somerville MA in the latish 70s-wish i had recorded it. this song always makes this ole boy bawl. like a worn in pair of jeans, John had a combo of tough and soft. couldnt someone else(not that anyone should have died of this insanity) have been taken-i can think of one person who has the worst comb-over and brainless head born(sorry-you couldnt pay my ass to support Trump. or give me an old Knucklehead) and thats a lot.
i saw Bonnie also yrs ago at the old Jacks in Cambridge ,,,,,i wore a path in the sidewalk between there and the Plough. how i survived and still and sober 30yrs later is a FREAKIN miracle.
the monkeys are an stopping the push-ups with people droppin like flies. but i aint goin out from this if i can help it-thank god for my cd collection! we are here for ya kim, from Ass a 2 shits.
Every evening when I come home I engage my wife in whatever small talk she initiates. I hear this line every time. Thank you Mr. Prine.
Great video and a Thumbs Up for you.
Such beauty in the world... I hope Mr. Prine does not leave us too soon.
well- we lost us a saint-survived cancer-then this shot his ass down- HUGE LOSS-glad i got to see him back in the day
Really nice impromptu duet. Bravo ladies!
Wow, when the harmony kicks in.
Love this tune.
Great rendition.
Thank You. 💜
Ruthie Foster adds a lot to this song. Terrific!
Ruthie Foster and Bonnie Raitt...perfection.
oh man the memories this brings back...🎸🎤💯😁❣️☮️
Their voices blend so divinely. It’s like a little taste of heaven on earth. This is the first time I’ve heard Ruthis Foster, but hopefully it won’t be the last.
Ruthie Foster is someone I’d love to hear more from. Bonnie, of course, is great every time. Their voices blend effortlessly and create a heavenly sound.
