You wanna have your minds blown....The hallway version of 'computer blue' is a mind blowing trip without being broke down..... there is so much going on it is incredible he made it work! Amazing
@deepinsidethemusic hey just one more note on that..... he had the album version edited down to about 3:30.... this "Hallway Speech" version is over 12 minutes and just takes you through his mind and even processes to a degree. I really hope you guys get a chance to do it, I know Prince doesn't get the views that others do but damn it he should!
I remember back in my club days, I would request the 12" version of "Let's Go Crazy," to the DJ, and he would play this same version, and the dance floor would get packed, lol!! The 12" version kicks ass!!
Sheila E. said that Prince would often put random stuff on different tracks like a cowbell on the guitar track. It was because they didn’t have enough tracks back in the day for him when recording. That’s why you get shakers on the vocal track here.
Loved getting a closer look at this, hopefully more multitracks are out there from the Sign O The Times era. I believe those extended sections were only available on the 12” version, too damn funky. I think even Prince’s deceptively simple hit songs were way more complex at second glance
Cool but some points: It is possible that some elements from the Aug 3 show were used in the song, but it was mostly recorded live in a warehouse that was used as a rehearsal space--with no isolation. The recordings from the Aug 3rd 83 show were used for "Purple Rain", "I Would Die 4 U", and "Baby I'm a Star." (With Purple Rain being the least altered song, it had a verse removed and some strings added) As to crowd noise there would not be much as no one had hear it before. (He did 5 of the 9 songs at the Aug 3 show for the very first time) 17:34 the line is "Look for the purple banana UNTIL they put us in the trunk (coffin)" (it means live life to the max until you die. 18:00 Also, the random piano was something that Dr Fink came up with (but Prince is seen playing in the movie). The Songe was 3 or so minutes but the movie director wanted a 7+ min song so Prince added to it. (it was released on the 12") He wanted to "Just got crazy" on that part. (I assume it is not on the album because it was already 40 mins long. Keep in mind "Computer Blue" was cut from well over 12 mins to about 4) 23:37 A funny story: Sussan Rogers had just been hired as his recording tech and when Prince was in his new home studio working on the ending guitar solo, because Prince would play and stop to record in real time Prince stopped playing and Susan pushed STOP! Opps!
This is cool. More Prince, please! This was an extended remix. Yes, it was in the movie, but he also released this version as a remix single. He released these for some of his bigger hits in the 80s.
Woah, that totally blew my mind! Thank U guys so much for doing this deep analysis ... I'm amazed at how this song was built, what a genius, I still miss Prince every day! ... 💜 O(+> 4ever Please MORE PRINCE!!! Awesome
They recorded most this song live from his warehouse where he rehearsed at the time, not at the First Ave in MN show you are referring to. Purple Rain and Baby I'm A Star were recorded live(also with overdubs added after) at that show
Hello from New England...Hella cool pick....I was just entering my teens when PURPLE RAIN DROPPED....Then I saw the movie and bang!!!! Prince was a master at mixing and layering vocals and had soul for miles!! If you get around to it can you do a breakdown of GOJIRA...? STRANDED would be a good into to the band. Peace from the Northeast
Amazing analysis. You reveal so much in this song that I have never heard before in the 38 years that I have been listening to it. I wish there was a remastered version with all the details that you bring out.
Awesome video. The unknown section was released on the vinyl 12" single of Let's Go Crazy (aka Special Dance Mix) with Erotic City as the B-side, but I think there was an ultra-rare mis-presssing version (at least in the UK). But you are right, at the time of release hardly anyone knew the 12" version, until it came out on "The Ultimate" 2006 compilation album; also it was out as a remaster on "Purple Rain Deluxe" (2017)
In the purple rain tour you can hear the “part hardly anyone has heard” during the delirious performance which was performed right after let’s go crazy
There are so many things you discover listening to the isolated tracks. The extended version was on the 12" single, and on one of his greatest hits CDs. In the crazy "honky tonk" part in the movie he's playing with his feet. I don't think it was recorded at a gig, like the last 3 songs on the Purple Rain album. The album credits say this was recorded at the "warehouse" in St. Louis, Minneapois, Minnesota on August 7, 1983.
The crazy piano part is available in the 12 inch extended version of Let's Go Crazy which was always my favorite version. Song really gets to stretch out and groove
The way he recorded was beyond unorthodox. that's what also makes him stand out. isolating certain tracks and other shit will be stacked or doubled or hidden in the song and buried in the mix.
A) The devil voice is the sound of the tape. B) They didn't worry about mics when they were making the studio version. Prince never did, as his engineer Susan Rogers said, "Any of that coked out shit." C) The crazy piano part is in the Special Dance Extended mix of the song and it's crazy to listen to isolated, cuz it's kinda giving the song a Scott Joplin feel.
I don't believe any other multitracks are available. There were some files released mid-2000s for bits of Musicology but they don't combine to make the final mix.
It’s very nice to be able to listen to isolated tracks. But then the guy starts to sing on top of the áudio and it gets difficult to listen to the track. It’s ridiculous!!!
The extended version has been commercially available for some time, fans know and love it!
Lol, you beat me too it...
Yup, the 12 inch with Erotic City as the B-side. Great Stuff!
If only I knew where to get it without being redirected to a hackers website or someone wanting stupid money for it! 🤔
I call it the “full version”
Because thats what it is. Prince had to cut time on Purple Rain. He wanted it to be a double album, I believe
@@YoureNowOnTV its on streaming
That "long version" was in the MOVIE version - not on the album. Also sold separately on the single 7-inch which I own. 👾💜🍇☂
You wanna have your minds blown....The hallway version of 'computer blue' is a mind blowing trip without being broke down..... there is so much going on it is incredible he made it work! Amazing

This was one of the most central Prince songs, along with Computer Blue and Crystal Ball.
I remember back in my club days, I would request the 12" version of "Let's Go Crazy," to the DJ, and he would play this same version, and the dance floor would get packed, lol!! The 12" version kicks ass!!
When I win the lottery, I’m hiring you guys to do this for every Prince song. By far the best of breaking it down. More Prince please.
Sheila E. said that Prince would often put random stuff on different tracks like a cowbell on the guitar track. It was because they didn’t have enough tracks back in the day for him when recording. That’s why you get shakers on the vocal track here.
He only had a 4 track at the Purple House, Susan Rogers built the board He used. Prince programmed the lin drums.
They recorded this song in a warehouse. So so cool!
One of the greatest of all time!
I could watch this on repeat all day! Thank U 4 recognizing Prince’s genius. 💜
I love how you did the U 4 in your comment like how Prince would do song titles or in the lyrics
Thank you for this excellent breakdown showcasing the sheer brilliance of Prince.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This version was first released in 1984, it was a 12 inch and Erotic City was on the B side
I still own it on vinyl.
MY GOD MAN...THAT BASS TONE SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING CLIFF BURTON WOULD DIAL IN...
Definitely
Loved getting a closer look at this, hopefully more multitracks are out there from the Sign O The Times era. I believe those extended sections were only available on the 12” version, too damn funky. I think even Prince’s deceptively simple hit songs were way more complex at second glance
Omg that drum machine pattern is the intro to Let's Pretend We're Married from the 1999 Album.
It's different
Sounds like Delirious
The female background vocals were Wendy,Lisa, and Jill Jones.

The wood block/stick part is from Let's Pretend We're Married
From 1999 album
Ohhhhh snap! Checking that out now. Thanks!!!
Blown away, really loved listening to this!

I'm always looking for more Prince. Not the easiest thing to find
I figured as much. I definitely appreciated this one though!
"Erotic City," was the B side too.
My mind is exploding from this one! It’s Bizarre how everything fits together to know the song we all know.
The ending of this song totally embodies losing one's mind...Let's Go Crazy!!!
For sure
I had no idea that bass was kicking like that!!!!
BrownMark Slayed!!
I just found this channel and as a admirer of albums and an music nerd I’m loving this, I love hearing each track broken down and analyzed
P. Is a genius
Hell yes
Princes if i was your girlfriend seems a pretty layered song, would love to here that stripped down!
Amazing work on this one by the way guys!
Prince fan. That was kicka$$
That's the extended version finally released on the reissue in 2017.
It was on CD several times before that. On CD Singles as well as "Ultimate" in 2006
It was also released on 12" vinyl back in '84 with Erotic City as the B-Side.
That version of LGC was released on a 12” vinyl single in the 80’s. And rereleased later
I’d love to hear more Prince tracks!

Correct. The Warehouse that was on Flying Cloud Drive in Edina, MN.

Gojira would be a great episode
I watched your video and now I can hear all the flourishes in the song now. Fun video too!
Joe! Thank you very much! We love this stuff💜
That isolated female laugh sounded like Apollonia 8:37
I doubt it. LGC was recorded in Aug, Apollonia was not hired until October.
It sounds like Lisa Coleman laughing.
Can u go Deep Inside PRINCE WHEN DOVES CRY
We would most likely do any Prince we could find. It's so difficult to find anything though

Incredible!
Unbelievable!
CRAZY!

On of the best outros ever for me, when I heard it the first time Henrix became number 2.

It'd be great if you guys could break down a Cars track.
Thanks! We will look!!!
The piano is the Yamaha cp70
Thank you for the info!
Where can I find these files?
Loved the show and the analysis, only constructive criticism I have is that a lot of the graphics and sounds effects area bit much
Thanks you!

This is the studio version, the original studio version in which Prince did all the instruments himself.
wrong

Where did you get each isolated part?
Can you do Darling Nikki next?

Yep!
I wish there was an option to mute them.

Great to hear isolated Prince tracks, but lose the shtick, it ruins what could be a good channel. Also; research.
