    Funding and having a competitive business environment for it. I remember when my son was in elementary grade I have researched lots of math video games and for each one of them I have always wished that they could have better fund backing and be in a competitive video math game environment as it could use a lot of improvements and the potential was there. The video games was around in the backdrop but it needs such support. Hope this TED presentation will push it through. Mr. Andrew Yang are you listening? Thank you.

    2:12 Yes, this is what any decent parent does. Unfortunately, many parents take their kids out, see what they like, then force them to do something else. This almost always happens because of unfounded biases. Some parents think they are helping their children to succeed, and to the degree that they become educated and literate, this is true. But forcing them to take up hobbies and dreams that are not part of who they are doesn't help anyone, and in fact causes much strife in the world.

    As the saying goes, "Two heads are better than one." This is because there is a good relationship between Math and Economics. Let's think Math is an interesting field just like a video games, such as World of Warcraft. And so eveyone love Math and are likely to play with Math all night. But, it is not true Math is interesting and it may come from a Panthora Box..so there is small number of mathmatic geniuses and thus they earn money to eat delicious foods as a lunch. However, I strongly believe that Math is useful.

      School works amazing well. But *administrations bent on profit are not schools.*
      This is the *actual* cause of why we in America are so divided now as a country. The lack of linguistic literacy in America is the biggest danger we have faced from within our own borders since the civil war. It is also why we have an obviously illiterate criminal as president. One who is linguistically illiterate is incapable of discerning this in others.

    I often skipped homework to play RPG games. Those games taught me proportions, that the D20 is a 5% increment. Heck the inverse square law was in a set of sandtable war game rules as well. I got the practice from the games, not the homework. I solved word problems without even thinking about them.....

    Something like 85% of gaming culture is about cheating. This tends to bleed over into any attempt to gamify non-gaming systems. Especially systems where scores are compared between participants, like education.

    Damnit when can we get an actual video game designer to do one of these?
    None of these people really know much they're talking about when it comes to video games.
    If I want to learn about the applications of video games I want to learn about them from somebody who's played them and makes them, not a math teacher.

      Well on the contrary, you have to have a video game designer understand whatever form or level of math that will be involved in the game that’s designed. The harder the game may become the more assistance the designer will need in creating it. Similar to film directors and phycisists, video game designers can have math teachers/professionals assist them in creating an accurate, well-put together mathematical video game.

    8:51 Hence why FromSoftware and developers of other Souls-likes need to implement well tested and considered "Easy" modes.

    • @stonywings5888
      @stonywings5888 5 років тому

      I don't think so personally. Some games try to adhere to specific niches, and for these games it is for those wanting challenge. If they feel their game isn't suitable for an easy mode then it probably isn't. Not to mention that an easy mode would not be the same as what he described in the video. Even the games as they are have introduction sections that are easier than the rest, their general difficulty scale is just higher than other games, but the progression is still there.

    • @charoleawood
      @charoleawood 5 років тому

      @@stonywings5888
      Plenty of players would be challenged by a mode easier than New Game in any given From or Souls-like game.
      Nobody who doesn't find it challenging continues to play on Easy rather than switching to a harder difficulty mode.
      Remember, having "Easy" mode difficulty doesn't preclude "Normal" and "Hard" modes as well.
      Plenty of cheaters have modded Souls particularly for getting unfair advantages in PvP but users have also enjoyed it for PvE.
      I've not used Cheat Engine myself, but when I first got through Demon's Souls it was because I took advantage of item duplication, it was a blast.
      Now, when I replay Demon's do I use this? I don't need to, and so no, I don't. But I can if I want to, particularly for upgrade materials because grinding those ain't no fun.
      The point is I wasn't enjoying the game when I first played it and then using this exploit did help me to enjoy it.
      This is the same for all challenging videogames that offer difficulty selection. The person who gets "gud" in Doom or Halo by first playing on "Easy" can eventually be just as skilled as those who feel they are too good to start a game on anything less than Normal.
      Souls is not a special case, and since people have cheated in it anyway already, why not help to onboard new, honest, noncheating players for whom the frustration of the experience takes too long to adjust to and get to that point of "Yeah, I got this, I'm having fun".
