Why most visual effects suck--but some don't | Wren Weichman | TEDxPenn

- Why can't we stop noticing bad visual effects whenever we go to the movies, even though VFX technology has never been better and film budgets have never been bigger? UA-cam star Wren Weichman is an engineer turned self-taught visual effects artist. As a crew member at Corridor, Wren makes cinema-quality videos chock full of eye-popping visual effects. Drawing on the experience of his movie fandom and professional career, Wren details the visual effects pipeline to shed light on how even well-intentioned effects can go wrong and why the very best effects may have the ones you never even noticed at all. As a crew member at Corridor, UA-cam’s premier cinema quality channel, Wren Weichman has seen more than his fair share of visual effects. Since their inception, visual effects have constantly grown more prominent in film and other productions, to the point where we can’t stop notic- ing them. Backed by his years of real-world experience in the field, Wren will unpack how and why visual effects are ruining movies but also how the very best effects can be an art form that you may have never noticed. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

It really makes his point, though.
It was messing with my mind.

Yeah lol
It looks like a frame rate issue? They kept the lav mic audio but the other clips were in different frame rates, I’m guessing. Don’t think there’s any way to fix this without distorting video or audio.

Books are the same. All the authors I heard talking about it say that at some point they must stop working on their book, stop rewriting passages, stop refining it, and just release it.

@Keita Lafleur élève copyright
@@andrewsparkes8829 That may be true, but tell that to TED Talk folk. Wren (the speaker here) has said that the reason his video took soooo long to come out compared to other videos from the same show was because of the video material he used being copyrighted.

That's why it took this long to upload. They weren't allowed to use any of the slides for UA-cam.

Without prior knowledge of Wren (outside of seeing some of corridor digital’s viral videos), I could also sense his nervousness. The tone here was a bit off. Editing wise this has to be the worst TED talk I have seen to date.
You've heavily edited out content that is key to the talk - It really doesn't work without it. And yes there is a definite copyright issue, but you don't have to argue hard for educational and critique here. You're more than big enough to have your lawyer contact theirs and get a license deal going if need be.
The heavy editing has left the audio and video completely out of sync - Which is impressive for a FIFTEEN MINUTE video. How did you not spot and handle this?

@SP3CTR0M_Brendan X Okay, better than our editing skills but it doesn't make the editing good lmao
@SP3CTR0M_Brendan X Doesn't mean that they can't criticize someone's mistakes. Just because someone can't edit doesn't mean that everything they say about something is automatically void, whoever edited this video didn't show the slides and didn't sync the audio. That's a mistake on their end, this doesn't mean a professional editor is the only person with permission to criticize.
@SP3CTR0M_Brendan X So? Who knows, the person who made this comment could be more competent in editing than whoever the paid professional is if there is one. Just because someone is "better" than you doesn't mean you can't call out their terrible mistakes.
