I was considering the 1.6L turbo diesel Highlander N-Line. But due to delays in this variant and told to expect it around mid 2022 I decided on the VW Tiguan 162TSI R-Line and absolutely love it!

The hyundai tuscon is a great SUV I just don’t like how they offer the crappy 2L on a $37,000 base model. I would recommend the turbo diesel as it’s the most powerful engine with around 140kw and has double the torque on the 2L base tuscon and offers the best fuel economy out of all 3 engines.
So the tuscon has great dynamics, a great engine if you don’t get the 2.0L, Premium interior, Spacious interior and looks very cool! However the DCT paired with the 1.6T is a bit clunky and weird from a start but it’s fine once you get going.
    Great review Tom!

I was in love with this new Tucson when I first saw it. Then every single review mentioned how poor the 2L engine is. Then Hyundai confirmed no hybrid options. Then delays to the better engines. During that window, the new Kia Sportage started appearing online which is an appealing option also. Plus, early 2022 we might have the new hybrid made-in-Japan Hondas coming our way.
I think Hyundai might have missed their 2021 window with this car as myself, and a many others are waiting for the Sportage specs from Kia... Plus the Kia has the added bonus of not having those DUMB indicators in the bumper.

I test drove a 1.6 turbo recently, very disappointed, under moderate takeoff from lights there was a load thump into the next gear. Even on Normal setting, the jerky gear change and continual throttle adjustment put me off. My previous car was a 6 cyl 4 litre turbo, where the thrust would come on in mid rev range. Waiting for your Diesel review Tom. Keep up the good work!

  • @carmode3664

We bought the turbo unseen because the 2ltr version just isn't up to it. Was a bit worried about the DCT but it's turned out to be unfounded. It performs great for our driving needs.
However, I reckon it's got an air conditioning (as you mentioned) because it blasts out super hot air and I haven't worked out what's going on with it.
Have reported as a fault and they're looking into it.
Other than that, this is by far the best car we test drove in this class. And we drove them all. Never thought I would buy a Hyundai.... bloody glad I did.

At 4:05 about the quirky air con. I have the 2L turbo diesel highlander with the exactly same issue. I reported it to the company I purchased from. They agreed. After contacting Korea they said. :
In the highlander there are cabin probes. They work out the cabin temp and the setting you have then it rapidly puts the cabin to the temp then adjusts.
I tested this and yes. It is correct.
The internal cabin in the morning was 10 degrees. I had it set to 18 and it blew hot air to get it up to temp.
Later in the day the cabin temp was 30 as it was in the sun. And then it blew cold air to get it down to 18 then stabilised.
Hope that makes sense. I understand it now.
Best car I have driven for a long time. Highly recommend it

      Hi Ando,
How is your Tucson diesel on the open road, that torque must be awesome. What fuel consumption are you getting?

    • @redranga72
      @redranga72 3 роки тому

@@Richard-sl8we love the diesel. In sport mode torque is amazing but I mainly drive in eco mode.
It is 52 litre tank and I am getting about 7-8l x100km.
Average 600km to 650 city driving per tank and about 6-7L x 100 for country to a tank. I have an excel sheet I designed which I input all the data for 200 fills. If you want to see it I can up load it to my website. This shows actually how accurate it is with fuel consumption and real life driving. Not what the muppets say you get which is unrealistic in most cases.
Open road driving is amazing especially with the radar cruise. Speed guided gps and steering assist. It slows you down to gi around a bend as per the maps and you only have to rest your hand on the steering wheel as it drives itself totally. Amazing technology. I love it.

The diesel is in stock now and I've driven both base shiite box 2litre and the diesel which could not be more poles apart as Tom suggested. The best combo, which I've ordered is the Diesel Highlander Sportline. The only trouble is the delivery times and still waiting after 6 months. Come on Hyundai. Spot on review, Tom. I can't see why Hyundai and Kia still persue having indicators at the bottom on the bumper. Thats not even at the eye level of the driver in a car behind such vehicles. Its especially troublesome when driving in cities where traffic is bumper to bumper. I think its a big design flaw with these cars. I much prefer indicators at eye level on cars rather than on the bumper.

Pick up my 1.6T highlander N line in a few weeks time which is great but i did not realise the rear indicators are so low down , whoever came up with that design needs to be shot . Expecting a few p'd off drivers behind me in traffic when they can't see that i'm making a turn from ( for instance ) traffic lights ........ good way to get someone run up your bum i'd say .

Terrible. You would think the diesel will be the go to in this line up.

Weird ride height. Not enough ground clearance for off road and too much for on road. What's with the half lift kit?
Good to see interior options other than boring old black becoming more prevelant. Now watch everyone just buy black.
Outside however it's just another bland SUV lost in the Wollies carpark of flat slab sides, tiny windows and clown face grills.
Lame car aside another great review from CC 👍
