Pure Love! Best turn based strategy game EVER ! Tried other versions, but NONE of them were balanced as well as Battle Isle on the amiga was.... Month's of gaming on this one against ia or friends! This is like chess 2.0! Nothing comparable or anything similar! One of my favorite games of all time, it's one of a kind!
I wouldn't say (one) of a kind, nor is there nothing comparable/similar. There are a few free games that have been inspired by Battle Isle: Crimson Fields Advanced Strategic Command Battle for Wesnoth (a very different theme but probably the best and its constantly being updated)
@@jezz2k Of course it's not the same feeling for everyone. We were young, it was on the Amiga, it was 199x, and then that music.... man. For me it's one of a kind, not for everyone. Iv'e played most of the clones and follow ups, but hey like I said, it's not only about the game, every gamer knows that, it was about the right time, and the "back then", bet you got that same feeling for some game as well :-) And thanks for the "Battle for Wesnoth" didn't know that one. (..and the typo)
@@jezz2k Battle Isle is not one of a kind and it is almost completely based on Nectaris (also known as Military Madness) for the PC Engine and later additional modern platforms and copied the core combat mechanics, even most of the unit types. It's still a decent game, especially Battle Isle 2 (or 2200) even though I never was a big fan of ammunition or fuel management and take these as a given.
Unforgettable Battle isle. I was 10 when it released. It was so difficult to me at that Time but i managed it. It made me loving strategy games. Nostalgia
I remember how unfair many of the maps were. The AI units were often positioned to make quick captures of crucial buildings and the computer had "luck" when it needed to during engagements.
FUNCTIONALLY, it's no different than the traditional way of moving each piece and then attacking during the same phase. However it's more confusing. You're giving movement order to pieces that might be destroyed before they get a chance to carry them out. With the traditional way, there's no confusion since you only move AFTER your opponent has carried out his attacks.
I wish this game had used the more conventional system of moving AND attacking during your turn, rather than having the players alternate movement/attack at the same time. It was slightly confusing to be plotting moves for units that might not survive to carry out the orders.

If you came for the music, try Nectaris. The tunes are even catchier. Either the PC Engine or PSX game (which is a remaster).
@@HelmutKohlrabi Right, I didn't say it was one of a kind. The OP said that.

The great Intro and soundtrack still give me goosebumps after all these years!
The best Turn based battle game ever.
They should revamp these old games, exactly the same except for better graphics .
