i really like that asmon went from depressed raging ds player at the beggining of his journey to being able to understand every boss of the series relateively well.A sign of a dark souls fan right there. Kudos
To true! I kept expecting him to mess up bad with one of these rankings but honestly it was solid all the way through. He’s a great example of someone who preserved and eventually ‘got good’ and then learned to appreciate the lore, the atmosphere, and the messages hidden in every game. I’m excited to play Elden Ring myself but I’m nearly as excited to check in on his streams and see how he enjoys the game.
I didnt see it was *2 hours and* 37 minutes...oh and I will watch every minute of that 157 minutes and enjoy it more than any multi million dollar budget movie, thank you.
Slave knight Gael will always be my favorite boss fight ever, period. I remember fighting him for the first time and just being stunned into silence to his attacks along with the setting and atmosphere abound. Even when I died several times, I actually didn’t get mad at all, oddly enough. After everything during this entire series, after all the gods and monsters, twisted horrors and waking nightmares, here you were at the end of everything. Two lowly undead fighting over the Dark Soul at the end of the world itself. Couldn’t have ended the series in any better way in my opinion.
This right here is exactly how I felt. I was just grinning every time he killed me just feels so smooth so well designed, three perfect phases back to back.
Same. Every time I died (which was plenty), I had to take a break. Not because I was mad or frustrated, but because the fight was so deliciously intense, I would get the shakes afterward coming down from the adrenaline dump.
I really wanted to like him as a boss fight but I just couldn't stop myself from feeling kinda upset by killing him on my first try. Got all warmed up by fighting Midir for like 30 minutes and then when I reached Gael I was like "well, let's give it a try", and defeated him. And no, I was not over-leveled or anything, just me and Yhorm's machete. Of course there's NG+ but I ain't replaying the whole thing just for a single boss fight. Still sad for me to this day.
That motherfucker was the bane of my existence. I couldn't figure out how to cheese him. He wouldn't "run out of stamina" and stop attacking so I could take a panic sip or 2 of "Estus". And Sekiro was clearly a dex/pyro, uchi build but I couldn't level his stats aside from prayer beads and I couldn't make Sharp Kusabimaru +10 beforehand. The problem was that I was playing it like Dark Souls. It's not Dark Souls. It's more of a rhythm action survival game than anything. Ol' Geni taught me how to git gud. By killing me so many times that I gave everyone Dragonrot twice. (and I didn't immediately cure everyone the first time either) I stopped worrying about his HP and focused on those posture bars. Then I stopped being a sissy boi and got into a good old fashioned sword duel.
I think sword saint is my favorite boss in any game period. No ads, no dumb mechanics, no running around the area for extended periods of time. You’re up in the dudes face going blow for blow and it’s exhilarating. There’s such a visceral feeling to parrying and dodging his attacks before landing your own. It’s everything that made the rhythm of previous fights so great cranked up to 11. Easily the most fun 4 hours of my first play through was taking him down.
The only annoying thing about the fight is that you have to beat Genichiro every time you attempt it. Hes so easy at that point in the game yet he can fuck you up hard if you make a mistake making you want to reset, meanwhile you just want to get back to fighting Isshin
Also have y'all seen for the sake of Ashina mod, Isshin is on full berserk mode doing drifts and he does a 360° spear attack which lits the ground on fire and he just stands there menacingly while there fire behind him, that need to be made into a painting and put in a museum
@@demsterclippy4252 the boss being a literal gatekeeper for the rest of the game (both physically and mechanically) and weeding out about half the players because they cant take it is pretty much the whole boss's point achieved there boss is 100% doing its job.. great boss, S tier, never played bloodborne
@@yurilopes420 The designers don't WANT players to give up. They want them to improve and overcome hardship (interviews with Hidetaka Miyazaki). So he's not a good boss because he made players give up. If that were his only feat, he would be a bad boss that goes against their design philosophy. He is a good boss because he slowly teaches you almost all of the games mechanics over the fight, making you better at the game by the time you beat him.
Ludwig is perfection. It has my favorite arena. It has my favorite design. It has haunting sound design. It has a million attacks. The soundtrack that plays for both phases is godly. The phase transition is a piece of art, I get the same goose bumps watching Ludwig regain a shred of his humanity as I do watching Bahamut casting Gigaflare, or when you-know-who casts LB4. It is breathtakingly perfect, it was so good that I bought a PS4 and bloodborne solely to fight him. It is the pinnacle of the entire franchise to me. I cannot dote over Ludwig enough.
I love everything about the encounter, except the somewhat lackluster difficulty - I kinda need to be stuck with a boss to really really love it, everything artistic from lore, music, to the perfect visual design is amazing, but the actual fight fell a little flat for me - The other areas are so good that I'd still rate it S though, but Orphan is the better BB fight for me
I vibe so much with this tierlist, the only boss i disagree is with demon prince in the DS3 dlc, thats my favourite fight in the whole game and the only multiple enemy fight in the whole series i find enjoyable, learning the fight was so satisfying and the way you approach it can vary alot, the fact they managed to make a multiple enemy fight with good lock on is soooooooo good and I love the difference in the second phase depending on the first boss you kill. I truly love this fight and would put it on the lowest S in this tierlist. Great job editors, u can feel your pain.
Yeah one of my biggest disagreements with this list was Demon Prince phenomenal boss. Cool intro and lore being the final chaos demon with having fought Prince Lorain. I also love depending on which demon you kill first you get a different 2nd phase.
I think it's unfortunate that the Prince ended up in a DLC where Midir and Gael exists. Also he wasn't even in the main location of the DLC and so that's why many people overlook it. But man was the fight great. The fact that the Prince himself has like 2 different movesets depending on the demon you kill first is just amazing and the transition to the 2nd phase with the music is top notch. Very underrated boss
I really like the solo demon prince in phase 2 of the fight. In my opinion though the demon in pain and whatever the other one is called that you fight in phase 1 is just a boring slog to get through.
Controversially that first Genichiro fight for me is the best in the entire series. Relative to your experience it’s likely the most difficult fight in the game, because by the time you reach isshin you’re almost certainly equipped to fight him. Genichiro is mechanically a great skill check, but in terms of story implication, presentation and being the climax of you reaching the top of the tower to save Kuro, it’s just such a wonderful spectacle.
I honestly enjoyed Micolash for that reason, sure, he's an annoying ass, but it's very fitting to the whole theme and atmosphere of the whole area - it's pure insanity after all
51:20 There's a ledge you can fall onto and jump down from there, instead of jumping all the way down into the boss arena, that prevents the fall damage you get from doing the latter.
I have around 500 hours in Dark Souls II, but in many cases it took me a while to remember a lot of those bosses. They are way too easy to beat and even easier to forget. Darklurker is dope tho. Very nice and methodical fight.
@@shawnmarcum8078 ds2 deserves 0 respect, just because it has a couple good boss fights doesn't negate it being 20 times worse than any of the other souls games
@@iforgot383 It got respect. Think about it Decans, Rennala, the Chariots from Elden Ring, Volcano Manor being on top of a volcano just like Iron Keep. Oh yeah, Amy-G rips his arms off like the Last Giant, clearly the devs of the games that came after took ideas and refined them for later. I think the ranking is fine now in retrospect.
The comments/chat asking "why did you rate X so high, he's easy as piss" make me laugh cosidering you know they either didn't listen or skipped ahead for when Zach says he was measuring them on a variety of factors, not just difficulty.
Honestly I’m really proud of asmongold how far he came and him playing all the games in the soulsborne I give a lot of credit most streamers don’t or don’t care or take time to try to learn it or play enough to learn Asmongold did I don’t think the soulsborne community hates or dislikes hime either now that he has come to be like the rest of us
It might be a hot take, but DS1 bosses aged a bit badly, like compered any later From games the best bosses would be at best in B tier. But its mostly because of the rather "less refined" gameplay, I would say.
It has the best player power scaling, the other games had more problems on release- patch progression (ie: Ds2 re), or come out with balance changes to fix power (ds2 re, and ds3 magic), or immediately start working on cheese fixes (dancer cheese with summon phantom non fixed power scaling). Don’t get me wrong, ds1 has cheese (pinwheel summon) and some scaling problems but the game was in a far better state balance wise than the others hands down. I think the bosses are more opinion based, hot opinion as example; I really enjoyed Orphan of Kos from BB because it rewards parrying more than any other boss for how difficult it is numerically. So if your execution is fairly clean then boss is a joke.
@@huntedbymoonlight2513 It's not about powerscaling or cheese tactics, but purely from movesets and the fluidity and feel of the fights. I don't think it's a hot take to say that you enjoy a boss fight because it rewards parrying. Parry is a skill wich you have to master to pull it off effectively and add to that the fact you have to learn each enemy/boss movsets to do it. It's not like cheesnig Father G's AI to lead him the tombstones and just attacking him with the axe from a safe distance. As a sidenote, I don't think the cheese tactics are valid points when it comes to criticizing a boss fight, because you have to mess with the game/boss to "defeat" it in way that wasn't intended from the developers at all.
@@dantoki6371 unless it’s blood borne then all DS Ds1-3 are hot garbage for fluidity and movement. If you unlock your camera you have the better rolls in Ds1. Bloodborne has the smoothest weapon movesets in any game thus far. And the fights are based around them so well. Just loot at the beast claws + rune. It beats the ds3 dual wield without any doubt.
@@huntedbymoonlight2513 That's a bit of an overstatment in my opinion, but I agree, Bloodborne's combat fluidity is thight as fuck. They implemented what they've lerned from BB to DS3 well, (mostly for the feel of the weapons), but still BB feels better still with the quicksteps, weapon movesets, trickweapon combos. And yeah I advise everyone who plas DS1 that don't rely on the lock on much or don't rely on it at all.
@@Velshin1986 Where did I criticised the world or level design of DS1? DS1's world is still joy to go through, easily the best in the series in opinion. I was talking about the bosses and when we put the bosses in a tier list with other bosses of the series the comparison is fair. Within their own game Artorias and O&S, sure they are good, but compared to later games' better bosses they pale in comparison. From has clearly imoroved their craft when it comes to boss design and that shows.
The Smoke Knight is a tier S, if you enter with the bell knight's helmet, it automatically goes to the second phase due to the lore, before it forces you to prepare the ground so that it does not recover life and its design is impressive!
Genichiro is the O&S/Abyss Watchers of Sekiro. He's a difficult fight that serves as a filter for a lot of players, and he signals the end of the early game. He's that wall you need to overcome before you can do anything else.
Very true. If you can't beat Genichiro, you cannot feasibly succeed in the rest of the game. By the time you're at the end, Genichiro is nothing more than an inconvenient and annoying gatekeeper between you and the game's final test. You surpass him in every way by that point in the game. But in that rematch against him on the rooftop, you're as evenly matched as anyone can be. That's why it's my favorite fight in the game. It even looks like a cinematic choreographed fight scene between rivals that know each other's every move- once you learn how to actually fight him. If you're not comfortable and competent with the controls and mechanics by the time you have to face our boi Geni, (like obtaining, upgrading, and utilizing prosthetics, learning to react to unblockable attacks, Mikiri-Muthafuckin' Counter, and most importantly, learning how to DEFLECT) you're going to get killed repeatedly until you are. Genichiro forces the player to "git gud".
@@TitoMcFadden Genichiro took me 4 hours to beat, the second longest boss was Owl Father which took 2 hours for me top beat. I was able to mostly faceroll and spam against everything up until that point, but Genichiro just fucking demolished me. Once I was done with him, the game's tempo was ingrained into me, and now nothing is seriously that difficult, even the full gauntlet with all 3 inner bosses at the end was easier for me than Genichiro on the first playthrough.
I'll always defend DS2. So many great mechanics. Powerstancing, bonfire ascetics, the most rewarding NG+ in the series, the best magic in the series, and arguably the most balanced pvp in the series. It introduced respecs, seeds, using stacks of items, and other great quality of life changes to the series. But it's held back by a handful of extremely bad ideas (ADP and Soul Memory especially are bafflingly terrible ideas), and it suffers from uninspired levels and bosses until the DLCs. But overall it's a great game, and gets unfairly maligned because it's not AS great as its predecessor. But personally I think it's a lot better than Demon's Souls.
I loved the Isshin fight. My personal favorite final boss of any souls game. I just adore how diverse and cinematic he is. I went into Isshin with 0 knowledge which may have played into my opinion. When he pulled out a spear from the ground, shot me with a dam gun and used lightning I was so hyped
@William Hall That's the opposite of how I would describe it. Sekiro has the most fast and frantic combat of any of FromSoftware's games. Past the very early stages of the game, enemies are super aggressive - you really have to get in their faces and go on the offensive. Dodging doesn't really work, you have to stand your ground and parry. Once you get the hang of it, it's amazing. Tedious is how I would refer to DS1 & 2.
Ornstein and Smough will always be the GOAT videogame boss. Amazing design, amazing environment, amazing mechanics. To this day people are still debating on whether we actually fought them or it was just an illusion.
For me, Fromsoft's magnum opus of boss is Ludwig. It simply unrivaled. The story, the design, the bossfight, the music, and that phase transition, this boss is basically near flawless.
The things I like about Sir Alonne is the music is fantastic, the design is cool, & the lore is good. Worthy of the A tier Zack gave him, but the run back, hit box, & teleport to get stabbed by his sword drags it down for me.
true, but alot of those problems are fundamental to the gameplay in general of ds2. it just felt clunky and wonky in comparison to ds1. my first experience and thought when facing alonne was: You better give me that dope katana when I beat you, old man! and he delivered. I was satisfied.
@@Ghorda9 "isn't perfect" and "has a glaring issue that consistently ruins the fight" are different situations. The Midir fight isn't perfect. Alonne's jank hitboxes are unacceptably bad
So umm... I wanted to share my pain with yall: Ds 2 is actually my first Fromsoft game and i absolutely love it, its been just 15 days since im playing it but i enjoy it alot. So today i came across the Pursuer, his entry was badass, he was literally floating and was pretty strong too. It took A LOT of time for me to beat him. The first time that i fought him, i had like 16 thousand souls and ofcourse i didnt won the first time so i had to keep going and retrieving my souls in order not to lose all of em. If i had decided to just grind, level up and then come back for him, i would've surely died atleast for once meaning i wouldve lost all my souls so i had to continue trying to beat the boss. My heart was pumping everytime i entered the mist, i was afraid that if he kills me before i retrieve my souls then thats it. And btw i was so concerned about those souls cuz i wanted to buy a staff and spells, they sounded so cool to me. I was really excited and also frustrated for constantly dying to that floating piece of strong armor. I knew bosses give u so much souls so beating him wouldve given me enough souls that i could level up my character and buy all those magical stuff with. Now after alot of deaths and severe heart pumping sessions i finally beat the Pursuer 😁. I was so effing happy, i emoted with everything i had. Then after going further on my journey a big cool crow grabbed me and then threw me away in a castle-like place, there was a bonfire that i interacted with and i had almost 40k souls. By then i was so much in love with the game. I thought, alot of people say dark souls 1 and 3 are better then ds2 so if im having this much fun with this one oh man i cant even imagine how good those 2 would be. . I then went ahead, found this big fat guy ahead that i did not wanted to fight. There was no straight path there but i managed to find a thin ledge which led me to a valuable chest. A chest! Cool lets just go back now and buy that magic stuff! But wait a second... that ledge i just jumped off from was too high for me to reach as it was ds2 not assassins creed so i had to go further instead of back and off i went. There were these ugly dogs that killed me after sometime. I had 40k souls to retrieve. I've done that before many times, its not that hard right? So i went ahead to retrieve them and i see the green thingy, im really close to it, dogs notice me, they r coming at me, its okay i just grab my stuff and run up the ladder nothing to worry about, oh no a black-cloaked fat foe is coming this way, okay... np, ah here we go then just as my finger is on the "X" button, all those ugly creatures attack me at once, killing me in a mere second hence crushing my long awaited dream. Only if i went back to Majula when i had the chance, i was so dumb and happy, i went further and tragedy struck.😓 I was so sad earlier but its not enough to make me give up this one of a kind game and im going to grind and earn souls again and i will get good at the game and not be dumb. Im really really having fun with the game nonetheless and will buy Ds 3 after i beat this one .😁 ✌️
I think Lady Butterfly really makes you learn the deflecting mechanic in Sekiro and acts as a "tutorial" but only for this aspect of the game. She's personally one of my favorite soulsborne bosses of all time
difficulty depends on build a lot. My first playthrough was sorcerer. Seethe was the hardest boss in the game for me besides manus in the DLC. I didn't know Ornstein and Smough were considered difficult and got them on second try
Yes, the gargoyles are the "obstacle" between, the players who beat it will continue the journey ; and those who fail, that will quit. That's why it has that glorious-heroic music, to it (as a low-level boss), to keep you going (forward).
Yea ds1 on ps3 was my first too. I’ll never forget the first half of that game. Prob the best gaming experience of my life. Very few games reach that pinnacle of experience
the first time i beat the bell gargoyles i knew i was gonna play through the entirety of dark souls, it was like a "oh, this is why people play these games" moment
Asmon's sense of difficulty is so strange when it comes to Bloodborne, I haven't seen his playthrough but Ebrietas harder than Orphan and Amelia easier than One reborn? I generally agree with most of his rankings in the other games, but these make me feel like he was playing a different game lmao
I always thought that the caster boss with the big towel hat thing was badass because you're actually fighting a player character as a boss and the only way to get that head piece was to be someone else's boss fight and win. Great idea for a boss in my opinion.
DARKBEAST PAARL IS SUCH A GOOD FIGHT!!! I loved the aesthetic, gives me chills. I just started playing the souls games for the first time last year.. I went from DS1, to Sekiro, to DS3, then to DS2, stopped about a quarter through to go to Bloodborne.. It’s definitely been my favorite so far but I gotta get back to DS2 lol. These games have helped me with my anxiety so much. Love this list!
I also agreed that Isshin Ashina is the perfect last boss because of only one thing, the satisfaction of fighting while feeling the accumulation of all the skills that you earned on the game. Not only that, even if you improved compared to before he teaches you one lesson. "Hesitation is Defeat" only then when you realized that you have to be brave and face him head-on will give you a chance to defeat him.
Didn't even mention that isshin ashina moonlights as the tengu of ashina inbetween dodging his doctor and treats you equally and in many ways better than his adopted son throughout the game. Still gave him the s+. That was a fun video.
This was a really fun video to watch! Thank you, Asmongold and editors. My Favorite bosses in all of the series (and I've played them all starting with Demon's Souls back in 2010) is probably Lady Maria and the second time you fight Guardian Ape (when there's two of them). I also enjoy Father Gascoigne, but mostly because of his voicelines and the amazing music. My opinion may lean more towards newer entries because it's been such a long time since I played the earlier games. Personally I'm not a big fan of Dark Souls 2 (a different game lead because Miazaki was working on BB) and Dark Souls 3. New IPs is what FromSoftware does best. Looking forward to Elden Ring a lot! Also, I enjoy your content a lot so please keep up the good work! Much love from Norway.
The cutscene of the Gaping Dragon rising up from the depths builds a sense of intimidation that promptly finds itself deflated by the mechanics. I agree with the C-Tier ranking.
The bloodborne chalice bosses for the defiled dungeon are probably some the hardest bosses in all of soulsborne. Only time it ever took me upwards of 30 tries on each boss
The worst bloodborne experience. It's just not fair. I remember even finding a video where a dude entered the arena to Amygdala and was destroyed literally, instantly. I'm not exaggerating, as soon as the animation of the passage through the foggy door ended, he was crushed by lmao
@@LuM4rex watch dog of the old lord is the one boss you can’t cheese like amygdala. The fact you can by one shot by the charge or if he goes for 3 bites instead of 1 is beyond frustrating. I figured out after the 20th time amygdala jumped and I resigned myself to death, you don’t have to move to stay safe and can pop the head a few times.
Vanguard Demon is a one time per character boss. You only get that one attempt. Like he said, VD does a lot of damage so it's easy to die when you're at base stats and gear. So most new players won't get their grand prize of getting one punch killed by a dragon god.
My first playthrough when I fought bed of chaos I beat it on my 2nd attempt and I never really understood the hate it got. Then I did a 2nd playthrough and realized just how lucky I was on my first one. That boss is one of the most unfair, frustrating bosses to exist and everything about its “combat” is antithetical to the overall gameplay
the only thing that I don't like about having isshin as the number 1 S rank is that you have to fight genichiro every time you want to re-face him, which isn't really hard, but eventually it feels like a waste of time.
One of the funniest things about DS3 is that not only is the Farron Greatsword my favorite DEX weapons and one of the best, BUT if you look up the stats for a lot of bosses THEYRE WEAK TO IT! You can stagger bosses like Sister Friede and Dragonslayer Armor along with others that I can't readily think of.
This video was so much fun to watch, it seems crazy for an almost 3 hour video but I honestly wish that it was even longer and even more in-depth. The entire list was really great as well. I especially liked the respect on The Guardian Ape boss, that is such an underrated fight. My only major disagreement is that Blue Smelter Demon was rated as the worst boss in the entire "souls series", I know that it's a reskin and that the run up to the boss is awful. But it's a genuinely enjoyable boss to fight, surely it can't be below bosses like "The Rat fights" in DS2, Twin Dragonriders (way worse DS2 reskin) and Bed of Chaos.
I guess that it is just too hard to accept the fight as an overall experience. I briefly remember when I was bored and tried doing all the long work to do these hidden bosses... I remember finding that fight ok, but not worth it the work it takes to get there. If he was an S/A tier boss, maybe but at most I would give him a B in isolation. Like the Darklurker, yeah, he was cool but I was so done by the time I got there that the experience felt like getting a medical needle to pull the last drop of fresh water from a dried up well. It's like climbing the worst mountain path in the world and all you can see is a slightly cool mist that clouds your vision.
I wish I could watch the footage of my first souls runs. Zack looks so amused watching himself rage with the knowledge and skill he has now versus then.
I'll drop an unpopular 10head opinion: Bed of chaos is S tier. Hear me out: When you see games as interactive art, emotional reaction plays a huge roll and if you manage to create something so absolutely terrible and frustrating as this boss, it will absolutely stay in your head for the rest of your life. It's so bad that it actually becomes a positive imo, when you watch friends play ds1 for the first time, you can always get them hyped up for cool stuff like the sif interaction, lore guidance and tell them about some great bosses - but there's just something beautiful about enjoying the pure hell run of izalith and embracing it lmao, it's the perfect immortal meme
For me, she exemplified the idea that some people have a harder time with certain bosses than others. I beat Gascoigne first try, which a lot of people seem to have trouble with, but Vicar Amelia... I had to bang my wall against her dozens of times.
So basically with the sir alonne grab attack, your low I frames require really tight dodges, and when it hits you, your roll will play out in delay, then it has to reposition you to play the animation properly. Same with Mimic hitboxes, while it is strange that the hotboxes on the back are grab hitboxes and not knock back hitboxes, when it hits you, it plays out your roll, and then moves you over to play the animation properly.
dancer in B is crazy, every fight in DS3 except for abyss watchers and pontiff sulyvahn was super easy including dancer but her design is fucking peak and her fight is also really cool, her music and how she slowly moves around the arena is just phenomenal and her loud, echoing footsteps are the cherry on top
I'd put Sif at an S purely for the lore surrounding him, plus the interaction when you rescue him in the DLC is a heartbreaker. No other Souls boss I actually felt anything about, I still feel bad when I fight Sif.
I’m sick of this meme that gets tossed around all the time. the lore truly isn’t that interesting. Artorias and Sif fought with eachother, artorias falls protecting sif. Sif guards the grave of artorias after his death. Wtf is so mindblowingly touching and depressing about this story? Because sif is a wolf?
@@Mayhemzz I’m not saying it isn’t tragic, it actually gives some merit to Gwyn and the Gods for fearing the dark. But in terms of saddest souls stories, it doesn’t even make the top ten. Everyone is tortured and punished in the worlds, why do those two get so much sympathy?
@@Timebomb_19 I think because it's portrayed so well in game you feel a more personal connection after you've rescued him from the Abyss. Also yes him being a cute doggo certainly makes a lot of people feel more empathetic towards the situation.
Makes sense for most of the demon's souls bosses to be underwhelming after playing the other games because it has significantly less complex AI but I'd say navigating the levels were the hardest parts of the game at least
The Nameless King in my opinion is the ultimate test to anyones Dark Souls abilities! Your timing on every dodge has to be absolutely perfect or else youre getting hit. You have to memorize every moveset he has to a T or else youre getting hit. Hes always attacking so your timing on when to attack has to be exact, and at the same time if you get too greedy youll most definitely be punished! Hes a challenge of a boss fight in all the best ways possible, he forces you to ration your estus properly but at the same time is powerful and aggresive enough to kill you before you can even use them. The only thing i dont love is the first stage of the fight js always kind of a chore to get through
I horribly disagree with this tbh. His first phase is honestly abysmal in my opinion. He keeps flying away, you can’t see what he is doing, and my god the attack where he flies up and breathes fire is complete bs. The second phase is tbh a B. It’s pretty lame compared to what you have fought up untill that point. Even his death animation is a recycled baisc npc death animation. I don’t understand the hype around him.
@@Mr.Skeleton-Eljust a goated boss in general, I’d say he’s better than most souls bosses cuz there isn’t some weird dumbass gimmick surrounding him, just like Gael, it’s a raw 1v1 fight
Demon Souls: God-tier from start to finish but weak bosses Dark Souls 1: God-tier early game, lets up after Lordvessel, best bosses Dark Souls 2: Bad early game slog is worth for best DLCs in series, SotFS fixed lore Dark Souls 3: Just consistently good, minus Anor Londo reskin which was weird imo Bloodborne: God-tier from start to finish Sekiro: I had mostly no idea what i was doing, but i had fun. Also, best final boss ever.
I'd given Sif a high A or low S only because of the secret encounter you get when you encounter Artorias first before fighting Sif, pretty sad but cool nonetheless
ah Sif is in my heart always an s+ . especially because he remembers you if you save Sif from the abyss in the dlc before you kill Sif it's heart breaking as you see how Sif reluctantly grabs the sword to protect the grave. and the limping hurts when you see it. Sif the ultimate good boy/girl
Arthorias is one of the best battles in the DS series. Not only the lore, but the battle itself is just gorgeous (Honorable mentions for the Abyss Watchers and Sister Friede)
The bell gargoyles absolutely serve a purpose in the lore of the game, same with the Taurus and Capra demons in undead berg and the bat demons in Anor Londo
@@DaShikuXI the bell gargoyles are guarding one of the bells that you need to ring to ascend to Anor Londo, they super important to the lore. They serve as the "guardian" to the mid game. The demon are a manifestation of how the chaos went crazy in lost izalith and spawned many demons that started wandering the lands. Not as lore significant, but the gargoyles deffinetely matter in the story
@@DaShikuXI they are literally called the bell gargoyles. Their entire point is guarding the bells. You could argue the same thing about ANY boss. You could replace Gwyn with ornistein for example and nothing would change. They are lore important and their entire point is that they represent the classic story of statues coming to life to protect a structure, specifically to protect the bell
@@georgesakelis4514 @George Sakelis The demons not just wandering the land because they are "evil chaotic monsters". They are trying to stop the undeads to defend the bed of chaos. They are just as much sentient beings as humans and gods are and built their whole culture around Izolith, they did not rampaged through it.
@@georgesakelis4514 No, replacing Gwyn wouldn't work. Gwyn has a TON of lore surrounding him (Archdragons, Nameless King, Darksign, Lord of Cinder etc). His fight is a very thematic conclusion.
I love all the bosses that throw a bunch of low tier adds at you. It's the few times in the DaS games where AoE attacks from weapons, abilities, and magic is actually useful. Finally I get to cleave 8 monsters in 1 sweep, or use the AoE spells against more than 2 enemies. I wish those types of encounters were harder.
Some new things that I realised thanks to this video: (I'm just gonna write this as I progress through the the whole thing because I might forget what to write): 1. Omg you are right, tower knight was used as a model for a lot of enemies and places. To this point I only realised the refrence in the One Reborn boss fight in Bloodborne, but my brain somehow never connected giant knights in Anor Londo with him. 2. You know what, as much as the swamp bosses in Demon's Souls are a joke, it was kinda a good design choice, since the areas themselves are basically nightmare to go through. Maybe it was intentional to make them easy, after all you have no bonfires between your first checkpoint and the boss. No matter if it was intentional or not though, it works in players favor and sanity, I think it's a good design despite first two bosses being literally a goo and a bunch of walking trash. And lets not forget about the emotional breakdown at the end of this whole location. 3. I love that armored spider analysis - it's not a very hard boss, at this point it was kinda overshadowed by a lot of bosses but... it works perfectly as a first FS souls like tutorial for mechanics. It teaches everything it needs, it looks cool and is very readable for anyone. Maybe not the craziest, most memorable boss in history but it gets its job done. This video makes me appreciate early bosses way more than I used to. 4. Bloodborne bosses are actually not that insanely amazing in the base game. I still think Bloodborne is my favourite FS game but when you look at all base game bosses, they don't scream god quality most of the time. I feel like they (similarly to Demon's Souls) win more with their atmosphere, look and overall ideas then the fight execution, especially near the end right before Gherman. But the pure visual spectacle of this game is propably making us rememeber these fights better than they actually are. (obviosuly not taking DLC into the picture here)
You have to play these games on SL1 at the very least sometime! You've got the skills, and it's fun as hell with a little restriction (but you can still get super OP on SL1 as well). Ideally to see the bosses as they're meant to be seen, in my eyes, SL1 +0 Normal Weapons. You'll notice every mechanic and things will always be punishing. So fun and rewarding and highly highly recommended.
Yea, but nobody does SL 1 with the starting weapons & 0 upgrades. Let's face it. And 99.9% that do SL 1 with +5/ +10 upgrades - it's close to pointless. Like those wankers that pawn n00bs in undead burg, posing themselves as n00bs and naked, while having +5 chaos. Absolutely pathetic.
I just can't with Bloodborne man, the victorian aesthetic, the OST the lore inspired by Berserk + H.P Lovecraft, Ludwig is my favorite boss of all time.
I feel like being able to body Gwyn is kind of the point. It shows his fall from power and desperation. You being able to defeat him so easily is 100% on theme for the story.
But he's the final boss, it's kinda disappointing to see your final challenge be so easy. But that's really just me, I don't like the gimmick of making final bosses (or most boss fights in general) less challenging for story, it defeats the purpose of a final encounter (especially in hard games) and turns boss FIGHTS into glorified story encounters.
@@uryenatienza4093 It would have been better if there was something like False King Allant and Gwyn was easier, but the latter just ends up feeling like a good boss that is unfortunately super easy to cheese.
1:27:03 Gywnevere’s theme all the build up and passion into the final delivery, “Horse fuck valley” So glad the Frigid Outskirts got the hate it deserves
The 4 great souls you collect through ds2 drop the old lord souls from ds1 at ng++ and above cycles. Those are literally "reincarnations" of the previous original lords in Lordran. The sinner is a man growing his body closing to a woman due to the witch of izalith remains possessing him/her. The rotten has Nito s souls within also explaining the pile of bodies he s made of. The old iron king holds gwyn s soul.
My only complaint with this whole video is that Sekiro is a part of it. Sekiro is not a souls game nor does it belong in the souls born genera not to mention I played it for all of 10 minutes before removing the disk placing it in the toilet and pissing on it.
I absolutely despised Dancer on my first playthrough, but after just recently having managed to kill her hitless, I have to say she’s at least a high A for me.
Capra demon made me quit years ago. Then in 2021 I had a Zweihander and just staggered him to death after oneshotting the dogs. It was kinda funny actually. I hate how the camera behaves in this boss room. It makes my eyelid twitch just thinking about it.
yeah i completely agree. vicar amelia was the boss that made me feel the weight of yharnam on my back. walking into that cathedral and seeing that transformation put into perspective for the first time in the whole game just how far the city had fallen. the atmosphere and feeling i get when i fight vicar is unlike anything and it’s easily at least A for that alone. not to mention she’s so fun to fight.
The soul of cinder transition to gwyn both in fight style and musical ost the lore, the atmosphere will forever make that fight an S tier. It goes through all the lords of cinder that ignited the flames in the first phase and when that Isn’t enough it transitions to the form of the strongest soul it ever used. So dramatic
it literally took me about 40 hours of gameplay (like 2 weeks of trying) to beat the ancient dragon since I accidentally hit it before I talked to it :') Then again it was my first run and I only used a Fire Longsword while skilling Aadaptation and literally only Dex lol. Everything oneshot me so I even did him without armor since I saw no benefit to that xD
At that point there’s no reason to have armor and their is no reason to no go and do a hyper mode with red tear stone since almost everyone oneshots or hits hard I went all in when I fought it and better it first try for my brother after watching him
Aight, Ivory King is definitely S tier. If you get the Knights, you dont fight multiple mobs by yourself. Idk man, ik this is asmongold's opinion but damn XD. He's one of the nost enjoyable bosses for me personally.
Capra Demon is the hardest early boss for new players. He is one of the easiest for experienced players. His speed, the fast dogs, the room, and his heavy hits make him really hard for new people.
I disagree. The bell gargoyles are the boss that determines, if one player will continue the journey ; or abandon the game. That's why it even has that glorious-heroic music, as a low-level boss. And if you are going to say it's easy - it is not (for a new player) with a crappy weapon. You will not kill the 1st one fast enough, and the 2nd will torch you out. Most just google for the drake weapon and how to get it (and plenty of tips/ advices says so) - a pitiful move - but it is, what it is. Doing gargoyles with 80 dmg weapon, and low-skill level > it's a pain in the ass. With the drake sword, you slash 3-4 times and the gargoyle is out.

He fucking stands up in his second phase, and lightning starts falling, what a bossfight, man.

Yea I think it’s the one souls boss which tests absolutely everything you’ve learned through the game. Amazing fight
I think sword saint is my favorite boss in any game period. No ads, no dumb mechanics, no running around the area for extended periods of time.

I completely agree but feel he’s the third best boss I feel orphan of kos and gael manage to surpass his greatness though
agree. Ludwig is a S tier, and probably the masterpiece of soulsborne series.
Ludwig might be my favorite boss ever, and the soundtrack is imo the best in a soulsbornesekiroring game
I love everything about the encounter, except the somewhat lackluster difficulty - I kinda need to be stuck with a boss to really really love it, everything artistic from lore, music, to the perfect visual design is amazing, but the actual fight fell a little flat for me - The other areas are so good that I'd still rate it S though, but Orphan is the better BB fight for me
A lot of other bosses have way more attacks .

Objectively, big yes - personally I really really really love Orphan though? the whole theme, the fight, everything is just *chefs kiss*
Dude Demon Prince is like a top 10 boss for me. First trying the boss was a godlike feeling. I also really like Old Demon King, solid A too
I think it's unfortunate that the Prince ended up in a DLC where Midir and Gael exists. Also he wasn't even in the main location of the DLC and so that's why many people overlook it. But man was the fight great. The fact that the Prince himself has like 2 different movesets depending on the demon you kill first is just amazing and the transition to the 2nd phase with the music is top notch. Very underrated boss
Shadows of Yharnam are really fun to fight, a little easy, but very very well balanced imo - if you consider BB as part of the series
It’d be so cool in ng+ if u could save ur arm
I love that you respect gimmick bosses too, they are part of the charm too. Narrative and art direction is relevant, not only difficulty
Honestly Darklurker is an S fight just like Flanelurker. He doesn't get the credit he deserves just like a lot of ds2.

@Prospect wait, ds2 had fans?
The comments/chat asking "why did you rate X so high, he's easy as piss" make me laugh cosidering you know they either didn't listen or skipped ahead for when Zach says he was measuring them on a variety of factors, not just difficulty.
Honestly I’m really proud of asmongold how far he came and him playing all the games in the soulsborne I give a lot of credit most streamers don’t or don’t care or take time to try to learn it or play enough to learn
Asmongold did I don’t think the soulsborne community hates or dislikes hime either now that he has come to be like the rest of us
It might be a hot take, but DS1 bosses aged a bit badly, like compered any later From games the best bosses would be at best in B tier.
Abyss watchers is more early game compared to O&S and Genichiro. It's more like Pontiff for DS3
Unpopular opinion, but I like dark souls 2 the most. I liked power stance, and it was the first one I played. 3 was really memorable though.
Based, tho I prefer ds3. Imo ds1 is the worst of the three.

Sekiro is god level game, run super smooth on mid-level PC and looks super beautiful with super good gameplay and super friendly price.
Playing sekiro on ps5 and its 6/5 game
@William Hall That's the opposite of how I would describe it. Sekiro has the most fast and frantic combat of any of FromSoftware's games. Past the very early stages of the game, enemies are super aggressive - you really have to get in their faces and go on the offensive. Dodging doesn't really work, you have to stand your ground and parry. Once you get the hang of it, it's amazing. Tedious is how I would refer to DS1 & 2.
@William Hall it literally has the best combat
@William Hall and circle and r2 and x
Also much deeper and satisfying combat as opposed to spam circle o and r1

I’ve never played as a sorcerer I’ve only ever done dex or strength builds. I’m just very conservative
capra demon and bell gargoyles were such defining moments for me. they were my first "this is where the real dark souls begins" moments.
I actually ran through Asylum, Taurus and Gargoyles, while the capra fried me for 3 days 😂😂

Don't think Asmon knows why Blighttown is so hated.
It's mainly hated because it ran at 10 fps when we first played it on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Blighttown is trash because of the platforming where you can so easily screw up if youre not perfect

D for Vicar Amelia is crazy. That’s the fight that made me fall in love with Bloodborne when I first played it
The bloodborne chalice bosses for the defiled dungeon are probably some the hardest bosses in all of soulsborne. Only time it ever took me upwards of 30 tries on each boss
The defiled chalice Amygdala should deserve a whole new tier below F
The worst bloodborne experience. It's just not fair. I remember even finding a video where a dude entered the arena to Amygdala and was destroyed literally, instantly. I'm not exaggerating, as soon as the animation of the passage through the foggy door ended, he was crushed by lmao
@@LuM4rex watch dog of the old lord is the one boss you can’t cheese like amygdala. The fact you can by one shot by the charge or if he goes for 3 bites instead of 1 is beyond frustrating. Vanguard Demon is a one time per character boss. You only get that one attempt. Like he said, VD does a lot of damage so it's easy to die when you're at base stats and gear. So most new players won't get their grand prize of getting one punch killed by a dragon god.
I agree on most of this. Isshin and Slave Knight Gael is probably some of the best bosses in any game.
I sometimes wonder if FromSoft design the Bed of Chaos cheese strat intentionally because they knew how bad the fight was.
It's not that bad. Honestly.
the only thing that I don't like about having isshin as the number 1 S rank is that you have to fight genichiro every time you want to re-face him, which isn't really hard, but eventually it feels like a waste of time.
Agreed, you should only have to beat him once
It's like climbing the worst mountain path in the world and all you can see is a slightly cool mist that clouds your vision.
thankful for these uploads, I don't have time to catch my boi stream anymore but i still like keeping up
I wish I could watch the footage of my first souls runs. Zack looks so amused watching himself rage with the knowledge and skill he has now versus then.
I'll drop an unpopular 10head opinion:
Bed of chaos is S tier. Hear me out:
When you see games as interactive art, emotional reaction plays a huge roll and if you manage to create something so absolutely terrible and frustrating as this boss, it will absolutely stay in your head for the rest of your life.
Amelia was the definitive Bloodborne boss for me. She's not the best but everything about her is what separates BB from the rest of games.
For me, she exemplified the idea that some people have a harder time with certain bosses than others. I beat Gascoigne first try, which a lot of people seem to have trouble with, but Vicar Amelia... I had to bang my wall against her dozens of times.

I would say iron golem falling is an intended strat because it has a unique falling animation
the inner fights in sekiro are some of the best imo, they’re all so good, it’s a shame he didn’t do them
So basically with the sir alonne grab attack, your low I frames require really tight dodges, and when it hits you, your roll will play out in delay, then it has to reposition you to play the animation properly. Same with Mimic hitboxes, while it is strange that the hotboxes on the back are grab hitboxes and not knock back hitboxes, when it hits you, it plays out your roll, and then moves you over to play the animation properly.
Admittedly still a fairly wonky hitbox though
Yeah it's like noone minds when they teleport to riposte but when enemy teleports you to play animation it's suddenly so out of realm of possibility.
Isshin Sword Saint ended up way easier for me than Demon of Hatred or Father Owl but I still think it's such an amazing fight
dancer in B is crazy, every fight in DS3 except for abyss watchers and pontiff sulyvahn was super easy including dancer but her design is fucking peak and her fight is also really cool, her music and how she slowly moves around the arena is just phenomenal and her loud, echoing footsteps are the cherry on top
Nahh. Abyss watchers is easy, Curse Rotted Greatwood is the real fucking deal tho.
There’s no way he put rom above vicar Amelia because of lore.
Okay... but the Cleric Beast soundtrack is S++

I just can't with Bloodborne man, the victorian aesthetic, the OST
the lore inspired by Berserk + H.P Lovecraft, Ludwig is my favorite boss of all time.
1:27:03 Gywnevere’s theme all the build up and passion into the final delivery,
“Horse fuck valley”
So glad the Frigid Outskirts got the hate it deserves
The best thing about Isshin to me is that he is the perfect final boss. He is the ultimate test to ensure you've mastered the game's mechanics.
Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 have such incredible bosses
Yes the best 2 games in the series. Elden ring dark souls 1 and demons souls are great but not quite on the level of dark souls 3 and bloodborne.
This is going to be good 2 hours video of asmongold talking about dark souls this made my day more greater 👍
I actually respect this tier list. Respect
My only complaint with this whole video is that Sekiro is a part of it. Sekiro is not a souls game nor does it belong in the souls born genera not to mention I played it for all of 10 minutes before removing the disk placing it in the toilet and pissing on it.
Father gascoigne not being an S is a crime
it's not s
I absolutely despised Dancer on my first playthrough, but after just recently having managed to kill her hitless, I have to say she’s at least a high A for me.
Capra demon made me quit years ago. Then in 2021 I had a Zweihander and just staggered him to death after oneshotting the dogs. It was kinda funny actually.
I hate how the camera behaves in this boss room. It makes my eyelid twitch just thinking about it.
Asmon really knows what he’s talking about and he’s got excellent judgment calls on the boss quality.
Vicar Amelia being D is an absolute travesty. Gotta be an A tier, such a good moveset and opening cutscene
yeah i completely agree. vicar amelia was the boss that made me feel the weight of yharnam on my back. walking into that cathedral and seeing that transformation put into perspective for the first time in the whole game just how far the city had fallen. the atmosphere and feeling i get when i fight vicar is unlike anything and it’s easily at least A for that alone. not to mention she’s so fun to fight.
At that point there’s no reason to have armor and their is no reason to no go and do a hyper mode with red tear stone since almost everyone oneshots or hits hard
I went all in when I fought it and better it first try for my brother after watching him
@@whiterose8601 when I played that game I was like 13 haha ^^
Aight, Ivory King is definitely S tier. If you get the Knights, you dont fight multiple mobs by yourself. Idk man, ik this is asmongold's opinion but damn XD. He's one of the nost enjoyable bosses for me personally.
Giving Old Monk anything lower than S is blasphemy
it was so cool especially when you didnt see it coming
