I've gotten magnets backwards so many times. I swear the things should come with some method of labeling or something, like one side a different color.
Can you cut through that with a glowforge? I'm not sure I can cut that thick with a 45w laser..that would be pushing it..probably take me 3 passes and will scorch the wood..I may try it anyway
@@ToppyTree Sure, as you can see in the video no additional hardware has been used for the hinges. It's all made from the same wood, a hole in the sides and on both sides or the lid a little wooden circle that fits in the holes.
@@alexalexandra3993 professional quality lasers like in the video start around 2.5k and go up from there. You can get a 40w Chinese laser (colloquially known as the K40) for about 400 but they need some modification to work properly. If you're willing to put in the time, research, and extra money to make a K40 work properly, you can have a laser that cuts wood like this for about a thousand dollars
@@Viper2132 hey dan what modification i can do , i going to buy this one universalengraver.com/products/15000-mw-blue-cnc-laser-engraving-machine-40x40-inches?variant=16303962062920, i am looking for cut 3mm plywood and balsawood, thanks!
At 3:08 where you cut only the tab/bridge which wasn’t originally cut - is that a feature of your software, or do you set that up manually? Mesmerizing build by the way 👍🏻
That project probably took between 3 and 6 hrs depending. You could complete it quicker if you had all the design files already prepared. I'd give 2-4 hrs for laser cutting sanding/prepping/finish work and and 1-3 hrs for design. Once you get the process, to make duplicates of that box, you could probably cut it down to around an hr. I make similar products by request on a 80 Watt laser. I like doing custom stuff because the margins are higher so everything I make is unique and custom. That being said, I'm only guessing at the fastest time you could probably make something like that.
Wow, excellent project.
Beautiful!
I was just thinking about the magnets, then he mentioned it!
Made me chuckle

Excellent design and nice work
Gosh that was pleasant. Thank you.
i just purchased this file... do you happen to offer a file for the insert/stand?
well done!!!
Can somebody tell me which laser cutter exactly is that? :) works amazing!
Awesome video. Do you sell the files used to cut the box?
There is a saying, "simple is beautiful" and this is absolutely beautiful. (project not simple but the result design is :) ) well done :)
Thank you! 😊
Wow! Amazing! Love itt 😍😍😍
Lovely ❤
Wow!
Great job, fantastic result. Regards from Brazil. Dieter

Mesmerizing build by the way 👍🏻
Thank you for your message! Yes we set the tabs up manually. For complex shapes we wrote an illustrator script to automate the process.
Nice
Incredible! Can you share the svg file used to cut the box parts?
x2
Yes, please
What is the thickness of the wood used for cutting?
6mm
Love the pen box. Can you share the svg file used to cut the box parts? Great Project
Lynn Lacey I guess not. LOL

Another Porsche guy😎
Makercase.com is the site that allows free design and download of box designs, that I use with Lightburn.
Lokks better with the burned outer edges sanded back to clean wood.
Which machine do you use??
hermoso trabajo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which laser did you use? Looks like a big one, right?
Could you please tell me what kinda machine you’re using? Thanks a million
Hi, we are using a 100watt CO2 laser-system
Thanks for the prompt response. Highly appreciate it.
name o laser type ?
What type of lens are you using here? Thanks!
fantastico,veramente bravo.complimenti.
Great video. Thanks for the time and effort you've put into making this. Side note: Gloves are for those who plan to fail. Be adventerous ; )
Thank you so much, couldn’t agree more, wise words :)
Gloves are definitely for those who aren't willing to put some "skin" in the game. lol
I hate working with gloves too. Unless I am welding or caring for an open wound I don't usually use them
I know this is a older video, I am looking for some plans for a pen box like that, can you point me in the right direction or sell me a copy of yours.
try etsy?
Hi Jim, we released the vector plans for this penbox and added the link in our video description. They are now available in our projects store.
Nice project keep it up cheers :D
What laser are we using for this beautiful pen box?
Hi! we used a 100w CO2 laser
@@FireFeatherDesigns Is their a specific brand name for the machine you're using, or is it just some generic Chinese Co2 laser?
Is it available in India?
How much it's price in India?
Hi Nasib! If you would like to create this penbox, we released the project files and added the link to this project in the video description.
Amazing job! May I know the name of the machine that you used for smoothing the edges of the wood?
Is it his secret?
I am going to take a guess but it looks like a horizontal belt sander. You can find a hobby size one at Harbor Freight for a reasonable price.
How many watts is your laser? I can barely cut through 1/4 inch plywood 🤣
He answers that below. 100W CO2
Why is this your only video?
I know! rediculous right? Been really busy but have a few new videos in the making with some great projects.
Fire Feather Designs ok. Subscribing for the future!
Muy bonito.

Looks great! How thick was the wood?
Hi, thank you! We used 6mm thick oak that's about a quarter inch.
Outstanding work! Could you tell me what abrasive wax you used?
Thank you! Sure, I used Yorkshire-grit (black)
kind of wood please
We used solid Oak

100 watt laser
Disgusting. Most of us laser etching types like the burn edges and you spent so much time removing them… 😢
