These trees prevent flood in mountainous regions. Since too much is cut , plan growing trees of fruits and flowers to add beauty and also fruits . It would help prevent flood and land slide as well.I am really impressed by your energy and enthusiasm. Wish u happy life with your new property.😊

For erosion control near those steps perhaps you could build some terraces with native plants with roots systems that can help detain the earth. Lovely to see such a a lively river. Perhaps you could harvest water from the rains as well as energy?

Good to see those invasive trees gone!(For now lol) Giving the indigenous ones space & light to grow 🙌🏼

    @richarramos466 Рік тому +20

hello maya, I advise you not to cut those trees too much, because their roots are like a net that contains the earth, and prevents an avalanche, when it rains, the trees also condense the humidity so that the clouds form for the rain ,that is the mistake they all make, when they disassemble around where they live, the trees also protect from strong winds, it is only dangerous when there are fires, but you should only cut those that are close to the house, greetings, from Argentina, my dear maya, goodbye

Well at least she should take out all eucalyptus trees. The rest is just up what she wants to do with her terrain.

Spot on. The land looks a bit devastated after the trees were felled.

Those trees are invasive in Portugal & a big fire hazard - it will give light & space for the indigenous ones to grow up instead ( the roots will still remain holding the soil together & unfortunately the eucalyptus will regrow from the base , so constant clearing will be required to get the land back to its natural state)

It seems like she had advice and help from the local people though, they surely know what they're doing. I don't know much about this topic but it seems to me that this can greatly differ from area to area and even depends on the type of trees.

Maya that machine is marvellous and fascinating what a tremendous help for you.
If the picking up vehicle comes whilst you are away, it will be so lovely for you to come back to the clean land.
I am concerned about the rubble and soil at the side of the steps i- in the bad weather there could be a land slip. Could family and Paul compact more earth on there and plant some ground hugging plants that will stabilise the earth and give joy.
As previous people have said a hand rail is I think a must.
I have watched the step building with interest because I have steps going down 7 levels in my very steep hillside garden and sometimes the stone steps become slippery so a handrail is useful. I will send you a video of my steps etc if you wish. I would give you appropriate plants but as I am in England not possible.
Congratulations on all you have achieved and to all the helpers. Blessingsxx

I have no ideas what your planning is but keep the eucalyptus out of your land. They will rapidly grow back and form always a fire risk. Better to manage that and look for different trees. Always with the fire risk in mind maintaining the cleared area. River level can be still higher this rain was not extreem. But you will get a nice peace of nature in your management.

You right. It might not bring to much. But she could. There are some video's on google about waterpower which perfectly explain it. If you combain it with solar you even can make watercirculation. Use the water for during the night and pump it up during the day with the overcapacity of the solarenergy.

No need for polythene over the wood, just need to learn to stack it suitably. Besides that polythene will not last and will end up littering the countryside before the winter is out.
For digging out bramble roots and a myriad of other tasks, suggest you might invest 20 or 30 euros in a heavy-duty grubber axe.

    Maya, Du liebe ...
