You're such an inspiration! I'm 69 living alone on an island in New Brunswick Canada. There's no Starbucks or any fast food chains or stoplights, no big intersections. I've started to plan a Permaculture Food Forest. I'm learning about growing food and noticed you have an ostrich fern with green Fiddleheads which are edible. Also the big plants you dug out are Comfrey. Very good greens. Please confirm with a local before eating. I'm enjoying following your achievements and it's amazing to see what you've accomplished! Enjoy, good luck and stay safe!
I could be wrong about the Comfrey it might be stinging nettle? The leaves are also edible. But both are nitrogen fixers for your soil! Build your soil not a garden. 😊
Hi! I can well imagine your restored house and you could then rent it for the holidays. I could see you doing that, you are so radiant and friendly. A project that will allow you to live. The houses are magnificent and after restored, will be a very friendly and warm place. I hope you manage to restore them and give them a second life. Cheers Cristina Laporte
There is a chap called Tom Burleigh who looks for treasure and old artefacts in rivers in the north of England - when you do filming by the river you play the same music he plays in his videos! Cool or what? Maybe I should go and get a life! Love your videos!
It's nice to understand where you are and what you are working with. Looks like a big job but you are young healthy and clearly full of energy, so...GO FOR BROKE as they say here in Hawaii, you got this girl!!!
Hi Maya, you are doing such a great job! The old houses with the stone walls are a gem. If later on you could get a mason to help you repair the walls and someone to help you with the roof and floors, it would turn them into a lovely place to live. The thick stone walls are a natural insulation, inside never gets too hot or too cold. Maybe you could use some of the stones from the river to repair the walls. Good luck!
I’m happy to see a video where you are not working so hard. Don’t forget, you can’t get anything done if you are working too hard, you will be too tired. Have a nice relaxing week or two where all you do is walk around and talk for your videos. Your land is so beautiful, and I enjoy seeing what you’ve been doing with it.
While you are lazing in your pool, if you slowly begin to pick up rocks from the bottom and throw the slightly downriver from you, you will build up a little wall, which will increase your pool depth, so it's just that much deeper for you to submerge yourself in completely. Take your time and do a few rocks everything you're in there. You'll be surprised by how well it works 💪 👍😁
@@mayafeliz Please be aware that portuguese law requires you to obtain permission to build a dam, even if it is roughly made with stones, because streams and rivers are public property, and slowing the current or taking water from them with pumps or manmade channels is not allowed wihout a permit. This is to protect natural habitats for wildlife, and because if everybody did what they fancied, streams and rivers in Portugal would disappear. Some properties bordering rivers and streams had ancient permits to build dams in summer to irrigate the nearby fields but those permits required the dam to be open during certain times of day, such as, the farmer could close it at night after sunset and irrigate the crops in the early morning up to a certain hour, but had to open the dam and let water flow free outside those hours. My father used to tell us that when he was a young lad in the 1930s he had to get up at 4 am to irrigate the crops from a dammed stream before sunrise, because after sunrise the dam had to be open to let the water flow freely. And when several farmers had a right to irrigate from the same dam, their "water rights" was divided in hours and rotated on a roster, so that everyone could have equal access. Occasionally there where arguments about the "water rights" when someone did not respect the rules. Given the recent water shortages and lack of enough rainfall, I doubt that you'd get a permit to build any kind of dam, even a very simple one.
Maya out of all the channels I watch of people bought land/ruins Portugal , your place is the most beautifulest . You have the best place ever. So much to offer you for your needs. The houses will be amazing when they are cleaned up and repaired where needed. I love the bread/pizza oven patio area, I would clean that area up and have parties/get togethers there , just a place to chill out.. But what I love most about your property is the river , so much you can do there. I agree with others you need to make better steps or paths to get down to your cabin and the terraces .. I can't wait to see what all are your plans for your place. Subscribed , liked , and hit the bell.
Hi Maya, Your river stream is really a boom & boost for the location of your property. The way you go on completing each one of the 4 separate buildings, you can allot couple of buildings into a one/two bedrooms for accommodating a couple or a small family to spend couple of days by tourists. Ofcourse you will have to organise accordingly by consulting your friends or professionals experienced in this line. I am sure on a particular warm seasons tourists may want to visit your place with proper advertising.
You are a very strong woman and I admire your tenacity. Every time I think to myself could I actually undertake such a big project like that. You are amazing. Xxxxx
Fantastic property, bunch of friends, great smile. Life loves you and you love life. I'm happy to see so much positivity for a change. Best wishes from Aachen.
Thank you so much for doing this, Maya. I really appreciate this look all over your land. Every time I watched your videos, I would just wonder exactly where everything was and how it was doing. It doesn’t look like the rest of your homestead is going to fall down anytime soon. Stone can get pretty bad before it falls.
Wow Maya. Your property is pretty special. Those old factories old houses are awesome! The ruins are in a considerable good condition. Unfortunatelly my 300 years old stone house is not on that good condition. I am now following your journey :)
Wowwwwwwww Maya yes you have a beautiful property it’s a diamond in the rough but it will sparkle one day can’t wait to see what it will look like in the future it just needs some tender loving care your metal wheel it can be turned into a hydroelectricity With a little work For your free electricity By using water from your River Can’t wait to see you have a party with your Pizza oven That’s a nice grill area I’d like to have one like that l like it I love it I want to see more of it until next time keep doing what you’re doing and remember 💪YOU CAN DO IT 💪 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️
Hi Maya. Love watching your journey of reclaiming and rebuilding old structures in Portugal. I always look forward to you sayin “strimmingl 😂 instead of trimming. It is so cute. ❤
awesome work l've been watching a few videos 📹 now about a year of work your living inside your new room and almost finished your bathroom and laundry area thanks for letting us watch all the work your doing😊
Your smile could light up a room. Wish you all the luck in the world for your dream project. The old houses would make a beautiful home one day. Take care and keep smiling
Hi Maya, I normally see your videos interestingly during the last 3 months regularly. I used to admire about your boldness in renovating this old house must be costing you a fortune. But still as you are going to own this property which is closer to a small water spring river you are very fortunate so your spending on renovations is worth a dime. Also now by copying other experienced builders with your qualifications help you to do all sorts of functions at your property. This is a good thing because hereafter if anybody needs the expert services on a property purchased in Portugal, you can either guide them or undertake to complete a job in a professional manner and charge a fee. So it’s a learning process. Congrats!!
I don't know how long you plan to live there but I want to recommend that you consider this place in later years may be difficult due to the fact that climbing all those stairs may not be possible. I think you might find a way that a wheelchair might have to descend to the house you're living in and make you a pathway in case you get injured and can't climb the stairs. You have a beautiful place! I hope that you also will consider the impact you are making on the local environment and do things that will help preserve the flora and fauna on your property. Trees will become very important for shade from the hot sun in the summer and shield the house from high winds in the winter. Wishing you all the best in your new venture! 😸
Hello, it's good that you published a video. I'm waiting for you with great affection and anxiety... I like many of them when I see the ruins, I imagine when they are finished they must look spectacular... a hug
Hi Maya, new suscriber here. Your property is beautiful, must be heaven to wake up there every day! You're a lovely young woman and I worry about the winter. I would say the 1st priority is to plan for it now. Even though it's very warm in summer, winters can be surprisingly cold and very damp, which makes it feel even colder. Coming to you from Rhode Island, USA, but originally from Portugal's silver coast. ❤
Another busy and productive day Maya! It also Appears that you had a fun and yummy housewarming. Congratulations on bringing in all the love and warmth of your friends in celebration of your beautiful home. 💕💕💕
How lovely to have so many houses to work with, maybe you could consider converting to airB/b it's so tranquil where you live and having the lovely river. Maybe seek advise from an architect, maybe there's one listening to your channel right now. However long it takes you Maya, you have yourh on your side. I love your enthusiasm, that smile and you sharing your experience. ❤
Your place is beautiful. The ferns that are growing back look like brackens. In my area, western US, the roots grow underground about a foot deep and I manually have to dig them up, since they continually creep into my garden. They produce what's called fiddleheads, which I see are eaten in Maine. I haven't tried them, and probably won't, because I read that they might cause digestive problems.
Very nice! Your „ruins“ look better than mine some 7 years ago. Especially be very grateful for the roofs with their concrete beams. I did not have the money to replace my wooden ones which are constantly on the verge of collapse. Anyhow, the almost finished room looks like a good start before winter comes. The wood under the roof needs to be taken down, to put a vapor membrane and insulation before your reinstall the wood or cover it with pladur (Rigips) green. Windows you can get ready-made in any Baumarkt. With a small woodstove you then would be ready for the winter - which I guess could be miserable in the wood cabin…
EXCELLENT place if you had the skills, what's required is an artisan with skills to do all the repairs. It is all possible for all fantastic places to be rebuilt and repaired, these long standing structural buildings are perfect. They look as if much of the roof was repaired with new tiles. This is a long term project but very doable. 👀📣☝🔔
Your place is simply fabulous! I would like to suggest removing eucalyptus, mimosa and pine trees away from the house/ cabin as a fire precaution. There is so much potential to this land... all the very best to you!
Maybe you can get a permit to make a side channel to the river (parallel to the river) towards/on your land. After that you could move the old water wheel down to your river side channel (rotating parallel to the river).
Those stone buildings would make a wonderful looking main house, if you can at the very least keep it from getting worse until getting around to renovating it. The land as a whole has so much potential as seen in your newer videos!
Wow - lady you know how to work hard. Good for you - you deserve a good long healthy life…esp as you have done so much for the land - Mother Nature is lucky 🍀 to have you in her corner 🌲 🌳 🍃 🍁 🍂 🌺 x from 🇬🇧
It is such a beautiful place and it was exciting to see the ruins and I can’t wait to follow your adventure as you slowly make the place your own. The party looked wonderful! I cant wait for part 2. Thanks for bringing us along.
Wow! I just started watching your videos and I thought you had the wood cabin and those stone houses were your neighbors'! Now I'm seriously in love with your place! I would've jumped right into restoring those houses! At least one of them to live in, then the rest... It's a DREAM! 🤗 OMG that oven! That I would've used the 1st day in the place! Even bwfore moving on and cleaning and all... 😅
I'm addicted for your videos. A lot of skill improvements, questions, decisions and victory! Portugal é um lugar incrível, pessoas boas e atenciosas. Sou um seguidor Brasileiro. Cheers from Brazil!
The potato salad looked yummy😋,our Slovakian friends and neighbours made fabulous p salad,i could have eaten all of it,she used to make it vegan for me and it was the best.😊
Lovely property with a beautiful gate. Would like to know more about price and where you are located and if possible see scenes of the get together. A dog for companionship and a chicken Coop would be a perfect match.
I’ve been so curious about your property so thank you for sharing. I absolutely live the grill area. There is so much work for you to do but I would clean up that area because you can cook there and sit under roof and it has a nice view.
What you have done, a lot of work. Beautiful. I live in the Arganil Coja area of central Portugal. I am Dutch and 75 years old. I have subscribed and will enjoy following your videos Jerry Bliek
The stone walls are just beautiful! So much more work to do, but worth it in the end. Have you considered a bed and breakfast situation when you are finished
Blessing from Singapore maya. U are a great inspiration. Thks for the ruin tour. Really enjoyed it. U are a hardworking, brave young bubbly woman who is always cheerful. Keep going Maya. U can do wonders with the ruins renovation. Living such a live style is a healing to the health too. The gathering with your friends looks great too. Keep planting more flowers, have a herb n vegetable garden. Take care Maya n god bless u abundantly.
My idea, or suggestion, would be for the coming weeks/months to concentrate on one space or one room to make it habitable . Fixing/closing the ceiling, putting a simple floor in, cleaning the walls and maybe plaster it. So just start with one room, since nobody by himself can fix a whole house, or several houses 🙂 at once. So at the moment you also have the cabin to live in, and with a little cleaning you can use the outside grill BBQ area to. Next step after fixing a living/sleeping area in one of the houses, is a workable bathroom shower maybe. And for now for the walls and moist, see if it is possible to remove the earth or sand which is against the walls on the outside. That would probably already make a difference.
Hey Maya, at 13:40 it’s not the fruit but a structure that responds to a harm to the tree, it’s super common. Don’t know the English name for “bugalhos”. Lovely project you have.
Your roof is not bad it is concrete fire proof. Isolation glass wool to bring underneath the tiles further a tyvex layer to keep the dust and moist driven in by wind away..Is doable.
The ruins will be a fun project you can take your time with. I’ve seen other folks use a pressure hose on the green moss covered rocks of the dwellings and they came up really beautifully. You could feasibly try it on yours. All the best.
@@mayafeliz Be careful not to dislodge the motor or smaller stones which support the larger ones. Alternativly you could simply spray the stones with a biocide such as white vinegar, bleach, or the commercially available masonary cleaners.
Hi Maia another beautiful video. Your property is very peaceful you have lotes to do but is watt make very interesting. You doing a good job.And l want to tell you eat you bought was not Melon but in Portuguese is Melancia . Have a nice week.
Thank you for your beautiful smile and happy vibes! Those houses look really beautiful and in quite good conditions some, hope you can prepare one for the winter for you. Wishing you the best!
Hi Maya another good video of your property I can’t wait to see you making the pizza and home made bread and biscuits and baking on the beautiful wood oven 🙏👋👍🍻
Hi Maya just come across your channel. Those ruin are amazing. I would slowing fix them out and make an extra income. They are not really in a bad condition that you need to break them down. You such an inspiration to other women. I watch a few channels of people move to Portugal. Keep going. Would love to see a video of your cabin inside you, we have not seen it yet. ❤
I am loving these videos and can't wait to see the final result. The property is absolutely fascinating and I'm blown away that you're pretty much doing everything by yourself. It takes so much energy and stamina not to give up with this amount of work, and a lot more waiting to be done. You gotta take care of that wheelbarrow, looks like you're gonna be best friends for a long time. 😂 Soooo jealous of the river as well, this is truly a lifestyle to die for.
hi, just found u,very happy to find more women alone taking the challenge of a farmland to bring back to life in portugal, the first video i watch from you you were talking about needing some social interaction, there are many expats and a great community, mi see them helping each other all the time. just this week i discovered Sabrina, another german lady doing what you are doing. she has no electricity or water, not a youtuber, you can find her thru luke and sarah's off grid life. Also there s Christine from @Girl meets farm.tkes time and effort, i have been looking for a plce to buy for2 years now, you already did it!!! i think thats the hardest ...to have the courage to trust your heart and follow your dreams. you are never alone, keep it up 😀
I think you are probably planning it already, but I think a stair case, similar to the one from the cabin terrace to the upper road level, from the cabin level down to the river level terrace might be beneficial. Good luck
Hello 👋 Maya welcome I love your zest for life, my earth sign has always guided me through my life, the feeling of the forest one of peace and tranquility the tree's that surround you keeping you safe and warm, good luck with the project l can only imagine what it will look like once you put life back into your new homestead. Take care Maya enjoy your journey Best wishes Katherine 🏘
That is not the fruit of the tree, it's a bug nest, if you open you will see a little egg inside... It's an genetic hack over a leaf that the bug uses to create it's offspring... ;) The proper fruit of those trees are acorns;) Have fun
Hi you do have a lovely property with charming features. Beautiful place with lots of potential. You said it is in Central Portugal, that is a vast area (province), what is the nearest "big town" to your property? How are you going to survive winter in the wooden cabin? What are your immediate plans to make the place livable? Are you using a compost toilet? Going to purchase Solar pannels before winter arrives? How do you make a living so you can finance the revamping of this abandoned property. How will you generate income to sustain your daily life? Are you going to hire help? Is this your first time as a vlogger? What is your story? Why Portugal? We would love that you give us some context and background so we can understand better your vlog content and your intentions for vlogging. Thanks
You are a curious cat aren't you 😅 poor Maya. I'm also very curious, because I'm very interested in this lifestyle, but I try to stay away from asking too many questions so I don't come of as nosy or offensive. Need to respect privacy and people's space... But yeah hope Maya can answer those because even tough some questions can be invasive, they also can be useful and interesting to know. Boraaaa Portugalll

It is such a beautiful place and it was exciting to see the ruins and I can’t wait to follow your adventure as you slowly make the place your own. The party looked wonderful! I cant wait for part 2. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks Lorrie! 😊
Youre so happy, shiny, and enthusiastic. Very enjoyable to watch and become invested in your story. New subscriber!
Wow! I just started watching your videos and I thought you had the wood cabin and those stone houses were your neighbors'! Now I'm seriously in love with your place!
I would've jumped right into restoring those houses! At least one of them to live in, then the rest... It's a DREAM! 🤗
OMG that oven!
Check out building up ceilings from inside. We did it here and it works perfectly.
I’ve been so curious about your property so thank you for sharing. I absolutely live the grill area. There is so much work for you to do but I would clean up that area because you can cook there and sit under roof and it has a nice view.
Yayy I just cleaned up the grill area! 😊
Oh my gosh Maya. That is so fantastic!
What you have done, a lot of work. Beautiful. I live in the Arganil Coja area of central Portugal. I am Dutch and 75 years old. I have subscribed and will enjoy following your videos

The stone walls are just beautiful! So much more work to do, but worth it in the end. Have you considered a bed and breakfast situation when you are finished
Olá seu paraíso é muito lindo demais . Meu sonho é um lugar maravilhoso assim no mato também 💗
A beautiful place for a beautiful lady. Thanks for sharing and wish you a lot of energy for the transformation of your paradise.
Thank you so much. ☺️
That would probably already make a difference.
love those beautiful caca stools - and country flavours
Hey Maya, at 13:40 it’s not the fruit but a structure that responds to a harm to the tree, it’s super common. Don’t know the English name for “bugalhos”. Lovely project you have.
Interesting and thank you! 😄
I watch you all the time , you are very brave and very clever well done From plett in SA
Thanks!
@@mayafeliz Be careful not to dislodge the motor or smaller stones which support the larger ones. Alternativly you could simply spray the stones with a biocide such as white vinegar, bleach, or the commercially available masonary cleaners.
It was good to see what your homestead originally looked like. You have come a long way in restoration!

Thank you for your beautiful smile and happy vibes! Those houses look really beautiful and in quite good conditions some, hope you can prepare one for the winter for you. Wishing you the best!
Thank you! 😄
You have a lot of wood there, make seating with the wood.
Benches are very easy to make.
I like your videos. Best of luck in all you do.

Hi Maya another good video of your property
I can’t wait to see you making the pizza and home made bread and biscuits and baking on the beautiful wood oven 🙏👋👍🍻
Ferry in paradise
You have great location, you will get it all done the way you want it , so peaceful , thank you for sharing it 😍🎶🎼.......
Soooo jealous of the river as well, this is truly a lifestyle to die for.
Thank you Ana 😄 Take care!
So happy you're following your dreams
Much success to you
Love and Light Always Amen 🙏
hi, just found u,very happy to find more women alone taking the challenge of a farmland to bring back to life in portugal, the first video i watch from you you were talking about needing some social interaction, there are many expats and a great community, mi see them helping each other all the time. just this week i discovered Sabrina, another german lady doing what you are doing. she has no electricity or water, not a youtuber, you can find her thru luke and sarah's off grid life. Also there s Christine from @Girl meets farm.tkes time and effort, i have been looking for a plce to buy for2 years now, you already did it!!! i think thats the hardest ...to have the courage to trust your heart and follow your dreams. you are never alone, keep it up 😀
Long term project will be great to follow your progress
I think you are probably planning it already, but
I think a stair case, similar to the one from the cabin terrace to the upper road level, from the cabin level down to the river level terrace might be beneficial.
Good luck
You are the only u-tube channel I have ever subscribed to.
Maya you are an inspiration.....thank you for sharing .....continue to follow your dream
Thank you Dino 💞
So big house! Brave woman!
You have a lot of work to do but good bones! Your English is great..
So happy for you Maya! Beautiful property
Thanks, Lisa ☺️
Hello 👋 Maya welcome I love your zest for life, my earth sign has always guided me through my life, the feeling of the forest one of peace and tranquility the tree's that surround you keeping you safe and warm, good luck with the project l can only imagine what it will look like once you put life back into your new homestead.
Take care Maya enjoy your journey
Best wishes
Katherine 🏘
Hi Katherine, thank you for spreading your tree love 💗
Thanks for acknowledging my comments. Raj
What a beautiful place ❤
Your party spread made me hungry.🥳
😂 Bom appetit!
It may be worth experimenting with holding the wheel barrow behind you and puling it. Just an idea.
That is not the fruit of the tree, it's a bug nest, if you open you will see a little egg inside...
It's an genetic hack over a leaf that the bug uses to create it's offspring... ;)
The proper fruit of those trees are acorns;)
Have fun
Interesting thanks!
I am excited,I am happy.❤💟💫🤝
She explains that she will reveal all in later videos, I am hooked
Das Land hat den richtigen Besitzer gefunden!
Good stuff, I'm sure you'll get everything sorted to exacting standards. Great adventure, have fun.
