If Otis had not been a bluesman, he would have gained much greater recognition both as a pianist and a musician; an early death helped none either, but more than 50 years on he still continues to gain greater acclaim, and thanks to youtube, he will never die (unlike his baby!)

Agreed, along with honorable mention for Sunnyland Slim, Memphis Slim, and Pinetop Perkins.

I love these old blues songs. White shirt, jacket and tie, and cigarette burning on the piano. True, soulful music.

Fantastic singer and pianoist . Not as well known as a top blues singer probably because he was in muddy waters band and muddy was the front man. To me otis is one of my favourite blues artists. He will never be forgotten.

Moe, buddy, I worked on this. It was made in Toronto, Canada at CBC, 1966. Not in the U.S. - We sold a license for re-release of these performances to Rhino Records, contained in their release ("The Blues Masters".)
I sat-in for the producer and directed the re-mastering of both the video and audio: that same producer oversaw most of the problematic transfers from CBC's original 2" masters to a digital 1" in 1996, also at CBC. CBC still has some digital master of those original transfers and there is so, so much more than the 12-13 songs culled from an embarrassment of musical wealth still awaiting release. There were many folks involved, most with far more experience than myself, so I apologize for any naked "personal pronouns."

I’d love to hear the full audio from these sessions, but I don’t know of any releases of this other than the show/DVD that was put together showing some of the footage: Blues Masters

I looooove this clip! If I could only show someone 1 video to personify the blues, this is it. The raw talent, the ease, the 2 ashtrays and guitar on top of the piano... absolutely perfect.

Obviously, this was a different time. I love that line not to kill my baby, but the way he sings it is amazing. The 2nd time is just magic.

Do believe that's Muddy's red '59 Telecaster sitting up top the piano.

Other worldly. He went far to early. Even though he was solo at the time of his passing, Muddy Waters was devastated.

Otis Spann joined Muddy’s band in 1952 and stayed until 1968, playing on his first recordings for Chess in 1953. They shared a close personal friendship as well as a great musical partnership. Water’s often referred to him as his brother and for a time the Spann family lived in Water’s basement apartment in Chicago. They remained very close until Spann’s death in 1970.

    The music treads the line
Between deeply painful and deeply personal and beautifully.
    The blues at it beat.x

Oh man, I honestly feel like he’s a cold psychotic killer who really is going to kill. And if you do anything about it, he’ll kill you too. No other version of this song captures that kind of feeling. It’s exceptional
