All I heard was someone trying to deflect any kind of connection or responsibility, just washing his hands of it and putting the blame on authorities and the background checks???? There is a way deeper issue with this family than meets the eye, I'm thinking. Skeletons in closets eventually come out, I'm sure this family has more than a few. Instead, of stepping back a bit, accepting his role of not being a good judge of decision making; he's trying to seek sympathy/empathy(wow is me/ I didn't see this coming). When clearly he and countless others saw 'the signs,' and failed to open their eyes and realize that their son/family member was un-well. Instead of trying to deflect from the real issue, avoid it and not try to help. Now mind you, some young adults resist, and we understand. But when they are a risk to themselves and others, it's about safety regardless to our connections. He could have counseled his son about getting some mental health services, and simply deny him. But I guess, he chose to co-sign for his troubled son's to be able to purchase a weapon resulting in the deaths of 7 innocent people, injuring many others and causing public traumatic carnage/mayeh. I'm a parent and from their childhood, I have told my kids: " I'm ok with your career path, you choose(janitor, teacher, etc), if you go to college or not I'm ok, but I'm NOT okay with you all growing up not being a decent human beings hurting others, then I'm part of the problem!
