Frontline special report: Myanmar rebels take on army in brutal civil war | BBC News
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 тра 2024
- Myanmar is in the grip of a civil war, largely forgotten by the outside world, which has left thousands of people dead and displaced more than two million from their homes.
Rebel forces are fighting a bloody campaign against the military regime which seized control of the country in 2021, when army generals overthrew the elected government of Nobel peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
Mass protests at the crushing of democracy were brutally put down. Many people took up armed resistance to the regime and in October 2023 several rebel groups united to form a single national insurgency.
Recently the rebels have been making big territorial gains. The fighters, among them a group known as the KNDF, are now presenting Myanmar’s military with the biggest threat to its rule since it seized power.
Clive Myrie presents a BBC News at Ten special frontline report by Quentin Sommerville.

I worked with Myanmar refugees in Malaysia and each one, children included, have harrowing stories. This 60 year civil war has just been ignored by the rest of the world.
Sad, but true.
As the world should. Mind your own business. Us Swedes will defend our right to call our country our home as well, and I expect the world to not interfere. We do not need your oppression here either.

1. The Whole Quran
In the Quran, God commanded the Prophet to challenge all of creation to create a book of the stature of the Quran:
“Say: ‘If all mankind and the jinn would come together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce its like even though they exerted all and their strength in aiding one another.’” (Quran 17:88)
⏬
2. Ten Chapters
Next, God made the challenge ostensibly easier by asking those who denied its divine origin to imitate even ten chapters of the Quran:
“Or do they say that he has invented it? Say (to them), ‘Bring ten invented chapters like it, and call (for help) on whomever you can besides God, if you are truthful.” (Quran 11:13)
⏬
3. One Chapter
This final challenge was to produce even a single chapter to match what is in the Quran, whose shortest chapter, al-Kawthar, consists of only three verses:
“And if you all are in doubt about what I have revealed to My servant, bring a single chapter like it, and call your witnesses besides God if you are truthful.” (Quran 2:23)#معجزات_القرآن 2
#MIracles_of_Quraan
These challenges were not just empty words with no one caring to prove them wrong. Prophet Muhammad’s call to monotheism, to the abolition of idolatry in all its forms, and to the equality of slaves and their masters threatened the whole socio-economic framework of Mecca society in general, and the position of the ruling Quraishee tribe from which the Prophet came in particular. Mecca, the trading center of Arabia, as well as its spiritual center, desperately wanted to stop the spread of Islam.
Yet all that the Prophet’s opponents had to do to crush the movement was to make up a single chapter like any one of those which the Prophet and his followers were reciting to the people.
A number of Quraishee orators and poets tried to imitate the Quran, but they failed. They then resorted to offering him vast amounts of wealth, the position of king over them, and the most noble and beautiful of their women in exchange for his promise to stop inviting people to Islam.
He responded to them by reciting the first thirteen verses of Chapter Fussilat, until they asked him to stop.[1] The Quraish also resorted to torturing their slaves and relatives who had embraced Islam in a vain attempt to cause them to revert to paganism. Later they organized an economic boycott against the Prophet his followers and the members of his clan, Banu Hashim, in an attempt to starve them into submission.
But even this plan eventually failed. Finally, they plotted to kill him in his home by sending armed young men from each of the clans of Quraish in order that the guilt of his murder be shared by all the clans, making revenge by the orophets clan impossible.

I think conflict is conflict and should not put one persons suffering over another but if we are to compare as you did.. those people are fighting one another, so it’s an internal conflict, which for the best outcome for the people their it’s better it be situated amongst them selfs… rather then a foreign force I’m American here going over their and turning it into Lybia or Iraq… afghan.. as far as Palestine goes, Israel is a foreign force who’s been oppressing them for decades and stealing a lot of their land.. even the agreed upon settlement of each state Israel is occupying palestines half… that’s major difference when another group of people are oppressing or causing genocide to another.. so I would think in broader terms that conflict needs attention now, this other one needs to be resolved by the people of the country.. I don’t have a single example where an out side force provided assistance from the heart.. people fail for some reason to live in reality.. when history points to the examples of what that is.. anyways peace to them
@@AdrianHernandez-np3iknot saying you are wrong, but Palestine has Hamas and PLO as opposing organizations to Israel. Myanmar (Bamar majority) has been targeting smaller ethnic groups who have no support and needed to fight back themselves. Sure, there are “allies” but they’re not getting finance or weapons from any countries. It’s impressive that they are gaining ground over the junta.
These insurgents dropped bombs on the Bangladesh border and killed their people. Bangladesh could have attacked and settled this long war but they did not attack them. Also, BBC had a report where the Bangladesh navy was delivering food to the poor people in Myanmar where people were suffering from war and flood. Even if you don't know someone always help.@@feastmode123
Yes, Because Palestine is our brothers.
@@MuhammadArif-pk7cuDon't lie. Indonesians are mongols whereas Palestinians are not. Myanmarese are mongols who are your real blood brothers.
finally, It arrived on bbc news!!!
😢
We are still fighting against the injustice. Some of my friends have died in war and some are still in prison.
This guy took camera man never die to a whole new level
Respect to you sir for risking your life just to show us whats really going on inside
We should call RAMBO to help coz he knows that place very well

Arnold and Chuck can help out also.
I don't want to laugh 😑
I forgot Rambo 4 was set in Myanmar
rambo is too busy living inside that hole in the ground under his barn at his family's estate in the middle of 'flyover' country and enjoying his retirement, and aging in his late 70s.
The British public obsessed with Israel, that's why we don't hear about it.
we don't hear about it because its not European and not a colony
the British? Lol have you watched American media in the last 6 months!

I first heard abt this back 2021 but it slowly fade off of my News feed now i see it again because of the movie civil war.
I hope the people of Myanmar find peace and an end to the civil war soon. It's heartbreaking to see them suffer so much. I live near the border, so I've seen their struggles firsthand.
this has been going on for years but only now is gaining headlines..
nope, its had headlines for years, go research a bit more.
It's precisely because it's been going on for decades hence people stopped reporting about it because of the lack of progress. Also because this civil war does not concern the Western powers too much.
@@daddy9267 Nothing to steal there, so nobody cares, it seems
Keep safe Mr journalist and your group.. JESUS PROTECT YOU

crazy this is the first time i’ve seen western media talk about the Myanmar civil war despite the conflict being really old, Nice job BBC news GOLDEN star for you guys
Yes, a freah wave of refugees for the west. Lucky us
@@arctech6169what are you on about? The major country this affects is Thailand lol
Not saying that I welcome refugees to the west though. we’ve got enough already
@@arctech6169 just say you are racist and be done with it
@@arctech6169nahh refugees are going into neighbouring countries, though India is officially siding with the Myanmar Junta so that's a sticky issue. Both Myanmarese civilians and troops regularly flee into India, Mizoram has deep ethnic ties to Myanmar and has done much to take in the refugees while at the same time they send back the Myanmarese troops, from what I have been told the junta soldiers are not exactly liked by the Mizos and are usually housed at the Assam rifle camps.
Hearing them say they think we have forgotten about then breaks my fuggen heart man... we have not.. we feel powerless under our government right now too..
Very informative and brave journalism
#save Myanmar 😢😢
4:05 i honestly agree with him. The USA and many European countries have focused on Ukraine and Israel while other countries are unfortunately going through chaos that many world leaders are simply to unfocused about.
Sad reality
Thank you for your reporting to the world ,Thanks BBC
