People in the 60s-90s used to fall asleep watching old late night horror films often starring Vincent Price (the deep voice man talking). People used to have TV watching dates. It's implied this might have happened to her. That is the reference about changing the number on the dial. TVs used to have dials. So the implication is that they were on a date in the 80s watching a horror film from the 50s. She fell asleep and had a nightmare incorporating whatever elements they were watching. He wakes her up and that supposedly resolves everything because she was just dreaming. But in the end, the boy next door (Michael) isn't as wholesome as he seems.

You had to wait till they played it on tv. And kids were missing school to see the premiere of it on MTV. I still remember when this video came out, he was already a superstar but the mania after this was released was the craziest thing I've ever experienced in my life. It was INSANE!! There was even Michael Jackson lookalike contests at the time, Michael was a PHENOMENON, he was famous FAMOUS!! Everything was great and there was no vitiligo, no pepsi burn or stupid rumors or media bullshit yet, only positive things were said. A lot of people don't know that Thriller became the first music video inducted into the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant"! Vincent Price is a horror movie OG. That's his voice doing the speaking part and obviously the final laugh. He actually did a lot of voiceover work as well as movies and TV. If I remember correctly (which is always questionable), they actually filmed all the singing portions together and then did the non-singing dance portions after. So, the jacket was not tattered yet when the singing parts were done, they tattered it up and finished the filming. I remember when this video first came out, every time it came on MTV and one of us kids saw it, we'd call everyone else to let them know and all the kids would come running to watch. Every one of us tried so hard to get the dance moves, too. It was glorious.

I like how the movie can almost be seen on a loop. The movie ends with him offering to take her home, revealing to us that he's a werewolf. The movie starts with them running out of gas going somewhere (probably taking her home) and he turns into a werewolf. The question is then where the movie within the movie fits, and which monster version is the real world: werewolf Micheal or zombie Michael.

No its his real voice! it just got a bit deeper when he got into his 30s and 40s. All the men and women in the jackson family are soft spoken with light voices! In the late 90s thats when his voice switched to a more deeper tone but he still sounded the same. The 2000s definitely was more of a counted tone. But he was way older, but yes that is his voice!
its not, his real voice is closer to what we hear in this is it rehearsals. everyone who knew him confirmed that he wouldnt talk like this in private and theres videos that show him slipping up.

His "real voice" in this is it is his voice after 4o plus years of performing and aging of course it would be deeper your voice gets deeper with age. But he didn't use a "fake voice" nor was his voice deep( for those who say it was deep i believe they mean it was lower in tone than what we are used to. But it is far from deep) It just got deeper a great example is his speech in 2006 at the award show and 2007 Or 2000 watts (though that does have some vocal added effects). His voice lower in tone sounds mostly the same but a shift from what we are "used to"in which people say that is his voice altered from his fake. But both "voices are his voice lol after progression

His voice wasnt deep as hell like some say but it was deper than what he was presenting in videos and interviews up until 2005. Yes there is a lot of fake stuff regarding mjs voice in the fandom and about mj in general but im not talking about these edited clips. Making of ghost shows him using his real voice (pitch) when he was in the mayor costume although with a put on accent. His friends and bodyguards said that he would talk in his normal voice with them and then switch to a higher pitch whenever they went outside. Lisa Marie said the same. His producers said the same. @@erenyeeagah204 Yes! And thats called code switching, my voice is naturally high but mellowed like michaels, but when I am around say family it tends to waver to a more mellowed out tone. Does not necessarily mean that either of those voice are "fake" but rather with different surroundings your voice tends to change. Which can definitely explain as I agree with you on the this is voice etc.. and yes michael had a 4-5 octave range as a male very impressive. But, as a woman when I sing I naturally am a soprano, though when it comes to my range I can hit very low notes, notes men sing thats just your range. But that doesn't mean it has much to with your voice take Michelle' for example her voice is VERY HIGH but she sings very deeply. You know her voice sounds so fake but its not. I would say, Mike preferred speaking in his natural higher tone while in public and in his music as that was his natural voice it suited him and made him feel comfortable. Just so you know: The opening of Thriller (the movie they're watching) is supposed to be taking place in The 1950s (it's based on the film, I Was A Teenage Werewolf)...Mike's wearing a Letterman's jacket and Ola's wearing a poodle skirt. The rest of the short film takes place in The 1980s. Very meta. The reason why Michael keeps changing, is because it's meant to show that he's been possessed...and is changing at will. It's basically a nightmare. And, yes, Michael's natural voice was a couple of octaves lower...but, he had an Operatic voice, with lots of range to it. The image of Michael Jackson happily eating popcorn has become a meme, over the last 5 years or so. The "Rap" in the song is performed by none other than Mr. Vincent Price, from The House Of Wax. As others have said, the song was recorded in 1982 for the album of the same name. The 2-minute dance has become ICONIC. You should also watch the complete short film "Ghosts" by Michael - NOT the shortened version. For me "Ghosts" is even better than "Thriller". For the choreography in "Ghosts" Michael was awarded the "Bob Fosse Award" for the best choreography in a music video.

John landis directed the video and also directed An American Werewolf in London and the makeup for the film was done by Rick Baker. The girl in the video, Ola Ray, was originally a playboy model who posed nude for playboy magazine. Michael was smitten with her and chose her to be in the video for obvious reasons. 😂 According to Ola, they messed around between takes in his trailer. She also said she was so nervous around Michael that she would often smoke weed right before set and Michael noticed she was high but luckily didn't fire her.

When this video came out people went bananas! MTV played it several times a day and people couldn’t get enough of it. Those dance moves indeed were spectacular and completely fit the character of the song. Not all that long ago Michael Jackson fans were learning these dance steps to perform in flash mobs. This is incredibly nostalgic, I remember me and the kids imitating the moves to Beat It and Billie Jean at school. The cultural impact Michael made, even more so than Elvis or even The Beatles, really revolucionary, NO ONE comes close to the magnitude of his success and popularity. Thriller spearheaded and revolutionized popular music, video, and culture as we know it for the last 40 years and will continue to for probably the rest of the century. It established Michael Jackson as undoubtedly the most influential and popular entertainer of the 20th century. Michael broke racial barriers in MTV and other mainstream music platforms. They didn't play any music from black artists, no one ever believed it could be possible, then he came in and changed everything. If it wasn't for him, MTV would be broke, literally. It was played ALL THE TIME on the radio. He was the first one that really opened the doors for other black artists and gave them hope that yes, it was possible to achieve that level of success and break records. Unfortunately, he paid a huge price for that because I do believe racism played a big part on the way the media viciously and persistently, tried any way they could to attack his character and tried everything to get him down. They could not stand that a black man had the amount of power, adoration and influence that he had. But his legacy will live forever, he changed the way music videos were choreographed, shot, and produced. Pop culture has never seen anything quite as groundbreaking since Thriller and likely never will. He still has a huuge fanbase and is still very much listened to and talked about to this day. Even 14 years after his passing. And even if someone never listened to his music, everybody knows who he was. Everybody knows his name.

Thanks for your reaction, your comments were very interesting :D About the sudden changes from human Michael to zombie Michael in Thriller, John Landis, the director of this short film once said it's a metaphor about growing up from an innocent child to a complex young adult; it's about the moment when a teen's body starts suffering the typical, uncomfortable changes (body hair starts growing, the voice changes...) and his sexual impulses appear. Metaphorically, one becomes a "monster" with sudden primitive impulses that must learn to control. That's what the video is about, in Landis' words.

I’m sure he got Rick Baker the specials effects genius behind the makeup for AAWIL to do the makeup effects for Thriller. Vincent Price was the voice you heard, he was one of the three main masters of horror films made by Hammer Films. The others being Christopher Lee and Peter Cushion. Thriller was premiered on December 2nd at midnight 1983. I remember waiting up for it with my sister.

You said you'd seen House of Wax, but I did you recognize Vincent Price's voice on the rap section? I was 20 when this came out. MTV had made a big deal about the premier showing, advertising it for days and days. This was back when you had to have some serious money to own a vhs recorder and my family didn't have one, but my adult brother did. Not being a dance-crazy young girl, he had a hard time understanding why I desperately needed him to record this for me. But I begged and begged and he finally relented. And man, I wore that tape out learning those dance moves!! And I certainly wasn't the only one! If you want to know just how much this video and this dance routine impacted social culture, watch the scene from "13 going on 30" when people show that they still remember these moves 15 years later.

Originally the people involved meaning the label and stuff didn't really want to do and release a video for Thriller cause the album was released november 30th 1982 and they had already shot 2 music videos for Billie Jean and Beat It and it was already almost the end of 1983 so quite a long time and Michael was already suuuper popular after the Motown 25 performance so they thought it would be better to just move on and go on tour or something but Michael insisted on it so they did, can you imagine if they never shot and released this iconic video??? I remember when this video first came out, every time it came on MTV and one of us kids saw it, we'd call everyone else to let them know and all the kids would come running to watch. Every one of us tried so hard to get the dance moves, too. It was glorious.
They were dressed in the beginning in clothes that are from the 1950s. The skirt with the poodle is called a poodle skirt, and they were common in the 50s.
And I don't quite know what it is or if anyone feels the same way, but when I listen to Michael, it's like a portal opens up and I get emotional, it's like a spirital experience. It's quite hard to explain. Must be the nostalgia hitting hard lol very nice reaction by the way.

I like how the movie can almost be seen on a loop. The movie ends with him offering to take her home, revealing to us that he's a werewolf. The movie starts with them running out of gas going somewhere (probably taking her home) and he turns into a werewolf. The question is then where the movie within the movie fits, and which monster version is the real world: werewolf Micheal or zombie Michael.

No its his real voice! it just got a bit deeper when he got into his 30s and 40s. All the men and women in the jackson family are soft spoken with light voices! In the late 90s thats when his voice switched to a more deeper tone but he still sounded the same. The 2000s definitely was more of a counted tone. But he was way older, but yes that is his voice!

His "real voice" in this is it is his voice after 4o plus years of performing and aging of course it would be deeper your voice gets deeper with age. But he didn't use a "fake voice" nor was his voice deep( for those who say it was deep i believe they mean it was lower in tone than what we are used to. But it is far from deep) It just got deeper a great example is his speech in 2006 at the award show and 2007 Or 2000 watts (though that does have some vocal added effects). His voice lower in tone sounds mostly the same but a shift from what we are "used to"in which people say that is his voice altered from his fake. But both "voices are his voice lol after progression

Making of ghost shows him using his real voice (pitch) when he was in the mayor costume although with a put on accent.
His friends and bodyguards said that he would talk in his normal voice with them and then switch to a higher pitch whenever they went outside.

@@erenyeeagah204 Yes! And thats called code switching, my voice is naturally high but mellowed like michaels, but when I am around say family it tends to waver to a more mellowed out tone. Does not necessarily mean that either of those voice are "fake" but rather with different surroundings your voice tends to change. Which can definitely explain as I agree with you on the this is voice etc.. and yes michael had a 4-5 octave range as a male very impressive. But, as a woman when I sing I naturally am a soprano, though when it comes to my range I can hit very low notes, notes men sing thats just your range. But that doesn't mean it has much to with your voice take Michelle' for example her voice is VERY HIGH but she sings very deeply. You know her voice sounds so fake but its not. I would say, Mike preferred speaking in his natural higher tone while in public and in his music as that was his natural voice it suited him and made him feel comfortable. But, as he faces trouble with the false allegations in the 90s and 2000s he got tired of it. That's when we see the huge range he had on songs like you are not alone, scream etc.. But don't get me wrong Mike could hit some LOW notes especially in the 70s! But, just as Jackie's voice is naturally high it was Mjs voice nothing artificial after examining countless of videos in such his voice switched when he became a teen, and it switched much lighter why would that be so? You know even if let's say it was "false" after speaking in such a way so long it would impact your vocal cords simultaneously warping in years of progression for that to become your "real voice". In short with the analysis MJ spoke with a more countered tone when he was around people he feltclose with, and or in music such as: Bad, Earth song, Will you be there, his superbowl live performance when hes speaking during heal the world etc..but felt more accepting with using his softer voice which I believe is because he was very shy etc.. But usually it is quite the opposite! This song is one of the Funkiest Grooves that Michael Jackson has in his catalogue in my opinion, Post - Off The Wall. This cemented him as the King Of Pop without officially being called that until a couple of years later. This Album is an absolute staple, a Masterpiece, everyone was inspired by this. Just so you know: The opening of Thriller (the movie they're watching) is supposed to be taking place in The 1950s (it's based on the film, I Was A Teenage Werewolf)...Mike's wearing a Letterman's jacket and Ola's wearing a poodle skirt. The rest of the short film takes place in The 1980s. Very meta. The reason why Michael keeps changing, is because it's meant to show that he's been possessed...and is changing at will. It's basically a nightmare. And, yes, Michael's natural voice was a couple of octaves lower...but, he had an Operatic voice, with lots of range to it. The image of Michael Jackson happily eating popcorn has become a meme, over the last 5 years or so. The "Rap" in the song is performed by none other than Mr. Vincent Price, from The House Of Wax. As others have said, the song was recorded in 1982 for the album of the same name. The 2-minute dance has become ICONIC. In fact, even in 1983, We young-ins KNEW it was history We were witnessing on MTV.

You should also watch the complete short film "Ghosts" by Michael - NOT the shortened version. For me "Ghosts" is even better than "Thriller". For the choreography in "Ghosts" Michael was awarded the "Bob Fosse Award" for the best choreography in a music video.

Michael going from zombie to Michael to zombie was definitely on purpose, because he only turned back while he was singing, they wanted to make sure to get big star Michael Jackson singing his cool new song, so they didn't want him to be singing in zombie makeup.
It was just a stylistic choice.

Rick baker did the makeup and was known for being one of the best for horror films . John landis directed the video and also directed An American Werewolf in London and the makeup for the film was done by Rick Baker.

The girl in the video, Ola Ray, was originally a playboy model who posed nude for playboy magazine. Michael was smitten with her and chose her to be in the video for obvious reasons. 😂 According to Ola, they messed around between takes in his trailer. She also said she was so nervous around Michael that she would often smoke weed right before set and Michael noticed she was high but luckily didn't fire her.

When this video came out people went bananas! MTV played it several times a day and people couldn’t get enough of it. Those dance moves indeed were spectacular and completely fit the character of the song. Not all that long ago Michael Jackson fans were learning these dance steps to perform in flash mobs. This is incredibly nostalgic, I remember me and the kids imitating the moves to Beat It and Billie Jean at school. The cultural impact Michael made, even more so than Elvis or even The Beatles, really revolucionary, NO ONE comes close to the magnitude of his success and popularity. Thriller spearheaded and revolutionized popular music, video, and culture as we know it for the last 40 years and will continue to for probably the rest of the century. It established Michael Jackson as undoubtedly the most influential and popular entertainer of the 20th century. Michael broke racial barriers in MTV and other mainstream music platforms. They didn't play any music from black artists, no one ever believed it could be possible, then he came in and changed everything. If it wasn't for him, MTV would be broke, literally. It was played ALL THE TIME on the radio. He was the first one that really opened the doors for other black artists and gave them hope that yes, it was possible to achieve that level of success and break records. Unfortunately, he paid a huge price for that because I do believe racism played a big part on the way the media viciously and persistently, tried any way they could to attack his character and tried everything to get him down. They could not stand that a black man had the amount of power, adoration and influence that he had. But his legacy will live forever, he changed the way music videos were choreographed, shot, and produced. Pop culture has never seen anything quite as groundbreaking since Thriller and likely never will. He still has a huuge fanbase and is still very much listened to and talked about to this day. Even 14 years after his passing. And even if someone never listened to his music, everybody knows who he was. Everybody knows his name.

Thanks for your reaction, your comments were very interesting :D About the sudden changes from human Michael to zombie Michael in Thriller, John Landis, the director of this short film once said it's a metaphor about growing up from an innocent child to a complex young adult; it's about the moment when a teen's body starts suffering the typical, uncomfortable changes (body hair starts growing, the voice changes...) and his sexual impulses appear. Metaphorically, one becomes a "monster" with sudden primitive impulses that must learn to control. That's what the video is about, in Landis' words.

Micheal Jackson watched An American Werewolf In London and whether that was the inspiration for Thriller IDK but he got in touch with John Landis the the director of AAWIL and got him to make the video. I’m sure he got Rick Baker the specials effects genius behind the makeup for AAWIL to do the makeup effects for Thriller. Vincent Price was the voice you heard, he was one of the three main masters of horror films made by Hammer Films. The others being Christopher Lee and Peter Cushion. Thriller was premiered on December 2nd at midnight 1983. I remember waiting up for it with my sister.

I remember a special on Turner Classic movies where Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly talked about the evolution of the movie musical. They specifically mentioned Michael Jackson as a torch bearer bringing the musical into a new era.

You said you'd seen House of Wax, but I did you recognize Vincent Price's voice on the rap section? I was 20 when this came out. MTV had made a big deal about the premier showing, advertising it for days and days. This was back when you had to have some serious money to own a vhs recorder and my family didn't have one, but my adult brother did. Not being a dance-crazy young girl, he had a hard time understanding why I desperately needed him to record this for me. But I begged and begged and he finally relented. And man, I wore that tape out learning those dance moves!! And I certainly wasn't the only one! If you want to know just how much this video and this dance routine impacted social culture, watch the scene from "13 going on 30" when people show that they still remember these moves 15 years later.

Originally the people involved meaning the label and stuff didn't really want to do and release a video for Thriller cause the album was released november 30th 1982 and they had already shot 2 music videos for Billie Jean and Beat It and it was already almost the end of 1983 so quite a long time and Michael was already suuuper popular after the Motown 25 performance so they thought it would be better to just move on and go on tour or something but Michael insisted on it so they did, can you imagine if they never shot and released this iconic video??? Thank God Michael thought it was important
