Im going to explain it in a short way - As much MF as you can, without losing on kilspeed, is the correct answer. In first instance, game checks for: unique --> set --> rare --> and finally magic. On EACH stage, the whole MF is being checked, that means game check your MF 4 times - for unique, set, rare and magic quality. Furthermore, the best strategy for MF is to hunt champions / elite packs / superuniques in areas of lvl 82, 83, 84 ad 85 over and over again on players 1, because they will always drop 1-2 items, no matter what player count is. That being said, you need minimum damage, you are keeping your killspeed, and finally, you are maximizing ur chances with high MF. Thats why zerker barbs and sorcs are the best chars to MF, because they can stack over 700mf with good killspeed. There is also 2 very important factors - each item has its own rarity ( for example, tc87 items in higher lvl areas ( 82, 83, 84 and 85 ) such as archon staffs, sacred armos etc - they have a chance to drop from around 1:1k to 1:4k in MAGIC quality from elite monster) and UNIQUE quality of an item is the rarest, so most of the time its RNG and being lucky, but high MF always helps in a long run. The best way to check the rarity of an item is to use silospen calculator - dropcalc.silospen.com/item.php . I finished my holy grail in less than a year and my main char was sorc with MF from 600 to 820, depending if I wanted go lighting, blizz or fire ball.

Out of the amount of hours passed since january 18 you'd have had to do 9,08 runs every waking hour of the year, assuming that you sleep eat and shit 8/24 hours of the day. Thank you for posting this video, it was not only interesting to see what an absurd amount of MF can do, it also showed me resources that taught me I was 9 MF off of the most MF you would want in a realistic magic finding build - which is 500mf.
funny thing : I had some 100500 runs Andi NM for SoJ`s and with 400mf almost everytime she drop green rings, time to time x2 at same run. When I drop MF from 400 to ~220-250 - almost everytime she droped unique rings (from x20 only 1 was SoJ). conclusion: no reason in high MF for unique items. Biggest MF need for set items ps: ye ye, my english lvl suck
I know this was just a concept build, but with the diminishing returns on MF wouldn't it be easier and less tedious to just kill the shit with your barb? if your merc gets the kill then cool but that shouldn't be the objective, matter of factly an act 2 merc that was decked out would allow for quicker kills
Damn I can't find any of my posts, my ebay profile no longer has the description, and my memory is shoddy - but this isn't the experience I recall with my MF Merc Barb. First of all, it was always the act II Merc (jab/Polearm) and killing stuff was not this difficult. I used it long before I was level 99. I don't see anything in this guide about using Necro wands to boost power and make the merc basically invincible (I guess it's totally different with a spellcaster). I am going to have to troll google until I can find my posts or gamefaqs on the matter because to disagree with my Mandalorian friend this is NOT the way. I played D2 for like... a decade. All that aside - nice video :D Just passing by because I'm totally stoked for the remaster of D2 :D
@@Asgardians3t You're talking about magic find like going beyond 300% does nothing. You get noticeably more set/uniques with 600% than you do 300%. Just don't sacrifice clearing speed for it. To add some numbers to the discussion, 300% magic find increases unique drops by 136% relative to no magic find whereas 600 increases it 176%. That's a solid increase.
Cool video man I’ll definitely try out an MF barb at some point. Probably won’t be using the last wish though, 5 high runes is a bit too pricy right now lol. Also it’s funny that an MF video has a thumbnail of a bunch of high runes on the floor (since mf doesn’t affect their drop chance).
lies item find is the same drop rate on what items that comes from the monsters as when you kill them, maxing Find Item will not give you a higher chance to grand uniq items, items are set to a drop rate based on monsters lvl if you'r playing on normal or hell and how many players you are in the game. besides these 3 things there is no way what so ever to gain more drop rate in the game magic find is also not for drop rate its for Identifying perfect rolled items...

@@MultiUltimater Just dedicate four spots for your cube and just put the items you wanna pick up in the cube. Only losing 28% mf. But this video is just a demonstration for a max mf build and isn't supposed to be efficient.
@@Jsphserna I agree as per "Makes much more sense to dedicate some space for picking stuff up though... "
Mephisto: why you turn your back on me and let that funny mage cast strange spells on me? Ah you want my gears.
I didn't even know you could portal scroll in the belt...
@Eviscerate Been playing for 20 years, still didn't know lol.
portal scrolls in the belt.... now it changes everything.
When you put your portal on the last square, you are putting a safe to you come back town.
nice, awesome.
Cant believe your not playing pd2. Literally star struck. Pd2 is everything we have been asking for and more.
Except for stable servers!!
whats pd2?
If you ever get bored, load up Hero Editor. Easily craft items with 1700, 5000, 100,000 magic find. You will find out that it doesnt make much difference if at all with actually dropping rarer items.
beside item drop, and magic find, there are also mod rolls. we notice these controllers variables back in old days and now they are all shown in poe
You have thorns damage affecting enemies when they hit you. There’s a chance you are getting the last hit FYI
u forgot to switch weapons on mephs death
U can up the goldwrap to have additional pot spaces
BRUTAL DUDE!! way to power thru it haha, gotta be a pain to not finish em off while ur merc paws at em!
Thank you for posting this video, it was not only interesting to see what an absurd amount of MF can do, it also showed me resources that taught me I was 9 MF off of the most MF you would want in a realistic magic finding build - which is 500mf.
Forgot about putting tps in belt. That’s such a good space saver
funny thing : I had some 100500 runs Andi NM for SoJ`s and with 400mf almost everytime she drop green rings, time to time x2 at same run. When I drop MF from 400 to ~220-250 - almost everytime she droped unique rings (from x20 only 1 was SoJ).
conclusion: no reason in high MF for unique items. Biggest MF need for set items
ps: ye ye, my english lvl suck
Thanks for the good info!
I know this was just a concept build, but with the diminishing returns on MF wouldn't it be easier and less tedious to just kill the shit with your barb? if your merc gets the kill then cool but that shouldn't be the objective, matter of factly an act 2 merc that was decked out would allow for quicker kills
Yes and the player could do more runs in a shorter amount of time which would make up for the %mf loss.
Both of you didn't listen to or read the disclaimer at the beginning of the video
Damn I want to get back into diablo 2 but I haven't played since 2003. I wouldn't know where to start.
i made tacos last night New ladder season just reset so everyone is starting fresh!
450mf seems to be fine. RNG still reigns supreme.
I also was always running 400-450 MF, seems to be a good spot. But was nice to see 1700% MF as experiment.
During the fight with mephy the auto CC captions it as [Applause] lol
But can u kill andy with 1 skeleton
Okay I'll start today and in a year I'll have a level 99 Barb and merc 😆
You got it yet?
@@randomares456 Kek
@@randomares456 lmao
lvl 99 mercenary? JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA.
So... a video about using a hero editor, cool
You can potion your merc btw, there's also a hot key.
This was an example of absolute max. Act3 merc holds a shield, so it gets more MF
Cool video, I love what you did here. D2 is life, but this shows that even with 1700 mf, the game still drops nothing haha :P
At that point, 200% mf with fast clear speed would probably be the best
@@SuppositionalBox ive found out from personal experience that the ideal MF with fast clear speed is 300%
@@Asgardians3t You're talking about magic find like going beyond 300% does nothing. You get noticeably more set/uniques with 600% than you do 300%. Just don't sacrifice clearing speed for it. To add some numbers to the discussion, 300% magic find increases unique drops by 136% relative to no magic find whereas 600 increases it 176%. That's a solid increase.
Do this on Path of Diablo, you can get way more of due to corrupting items to max sockets based on the base item type.
Path of Diablo is garbage now.
Assassin is like am I a joke to you. Because they can dual wield claws and Wrist blades and katar. And they can also be socketed.
Hah, I knew about belt scrolls Day one! mostly because I do this annoying little thing called Reading the manual.
great d2 vids bro drops coulda been better but its how it goes sometimes
oh you're running PlugY, that makes sense with the version number hadn't any letters
you know the build is slow when you use town portal to reset the mefisto
I didn't quite catch why the merc needs to make the kill - does the full mf stack get applied when the merc kills meph? Thanks in advance
If you kill it it's only your mf. if merc kills it's his mf plus yours
I know back then I uses my hybrid sorc 300-600mf was actually good what I found
Think I had 540 and was not bad
Cool video man I’ll definitely try out an MF barb at some point. Probably won’t be using the last wish though, 5 high runes is a bit too pricy right now lol. Also it’s funny that an MF video has a thumbnail of a bunch of high runes on the floor (since mf doesn’t affect their drop chance).
Do the kill once, then just skip to the last second of a kill on the rest. This got boring to fast.
That's exactly the point, the video shows that this build is not viable and boring to play.
nice, love your videos
keep it bro
Hi Xtimus
What is your strength, dexterity and Vitality requirement for Frenzy barb build for Acts 1, Acts 2 and Act 3 - Act 5?
I did the same build before but instead of double swing and frenzy, I did max whirlwind and max item find. Item find all unique monsters
lies item find is the same drop rate on what items that comes from the monsters as when you kill them, maxing Find Item will not give you a higher chance to grand uniq items, items are set to a drop rate based on monsters lvl if you'r playing on normal or hell and how many players you are in the game. besides these 3 things there is no way what so ever to gain more drop rate in the game magic find is also not for drop rate its for Identifying perfect rolled items...
Everybody knows opening a TP before the kill nerfs your drop
wat 🤣
Oooof! Non-bugged Andy Drops. RIP
sheeeeesh that luck on the drops though!!! eth treks and eth andy out of just 48 uniques is absolutely insane
xtimus im a fan of diablo 2 and i saw Almost all of your content and i know what you're been through, dont worry your still a cool guy, don't stop your diablo2 content just ignore the negativity around you, just do what you do best. what matters is not all of the people are the same, their are still a fan of you, im a fan of yours too. what im saying is don't get overwhelmed on what others says negative about you, just ignored them and you'll be fine. i still think you're a great guy xtimus. keep up the good work!. 😊😉👍❤❤❤❤
That 1st andariel kill with 2 blues, lol
The most hard-to-posses thing in this build is not even items, that were used, but having lvl 98-99 BARB (!), that have lvl 98-99 merc. Precisely 146+ str to carry eth monarch LOL
I wonder, would it be better to have lightning or fire merc? Or is damage pathetic anyway so does not matter much?
Hi Xtimus
Do you have normal to Hell walkthrough for 1700 % Magic Find - Highest Possible Magic Find in Diablo 2?
Did we forget about diminishing returns?
Quanity over time matters more than MF.
2nd this.
This was JUST a demonstration of how this kind of blind maximizing build works out. Like the 80k lightning sorc builds that end up being unplayable garbage.
@@operator8014 word.
Did he say the merc must get the killing blow in order for the magic find to work?
In order for the merc MF to apply yes. The merc must get the last hit. The characters mf always applies.
And now whos experience curve from level 89 to 99
Great video on showcasing how that much mf is a waste of time. 300-500 people; you'll get everything in the game with enough time.
@delosombres Runes don't require mf on equipment. And watch Mr. Llama's video of Tyrael's Might dropping. Mf helps, but kill speed needs to be factored in to every equation. I have personally never had a Zod or T's Might drop, but I understand the math and have seen them drop for player who grind alot harder than me.
Hi Xtimus
What is the players setting playing for 1700 Magic Find?
Couldn't a barb merc have two 6 socket axes?
Also I can't believe that you didn't use antidote potions.
They don't just cure youthey also give 50 or 100% (can't remember how much off hand) resistance for a few minutes.
yes and it helps the effectiveness of all them health pots hes burning, even regular rejuv would be better
Remember when you had to sacrifice stats for better drops? D3 really screwed up by removing that mechanic. It made gear far more interesting!
Devin Jones no I don’t remember this. I would just mf with like 300% and ended up being extremely rich
@@Purriah dont even try defend diablo 3 or dig a grave ^^
@@Gthisen4400 why would i defend diablo 3? it's complete garbage in every way. i'm talking about mfing in d2.

very cool. Was your andy glich bug'd ? EDIT: nvm I see she was not wen I see the stanima potion drop.
This game has always been quantity over quality. I would always laugh at the people trying to reach anything over like 350 mf.. just slows you down... get 300-350 and plow through shit, best way to magic find.
I didnt get why the merc should kill him?
has grief and last wish weapons but doesnt up the belt for 16 pots?!?! however, TP scrolls in belt = mind blown.
Don´t forget to questbug Andariel !
