I've been coming across maphackers more and more often lately. And even when they are reported I run into them again days later. I guess Blizz just doesn't give a fuck anymore.
Blizzard has essentially stopped supporting SC2, they announced no more development. There are still the Team Liquid map contests and tournaments and similar, however official Blizzard instigated and supported content will be very few and far between.
Wait, I thought maphacking wasn't a thing in SC2. I get that in SC 1/Warcraft 3 you could maphack because each client had data on all the players but I'd assume in SC2 the server doesn't serve that information. So basically the client only gets info about units outside of fog.
I think each PC has to run an entire simulation of the entire game from a small amount of data sent between, and then they share/update each other on what's going on. It makes it incredibly light on bandwidth usage and works great with the client but does have weaknesses. Luckily there's only a few paid maphacks and very few people use them
Can you host an event match between gm and lower leaguer like diamond/master, but give the latter a maphack mod advantage? In honor of this toxic barcode trash I mean
I'm bad at the game so I wasn't too sure about the maphack from like, a game knowledge standpoint, it was obvious they were a terrible player and had no business being here so maphack made sense logically, but like, I couldn't really tell why some of those moves were suspicious because when I see good player play whatever they do seems like dark magic to me anyway lol That is until they hunted down those observers on game 2... like come on, even to me that's obvious.
@@kozatas I know that, I know you can "see" them, but it was clearly not done in a realistic manner, they add no vision on the observer (specifically the second one) and scanned to catch it before sending the marines. When pro catch an observer typically they're passing through and notice it and scan, they don't just home in on it.
@@kozatas True, but not observers in the fog of war he conveniently surrounds and then charges, dispelling the fog of war and scanning all in one fell swoop XD.
On the first game, I thought he was cheating with more resources, since I thought I saw too many marines. But I thought the marines that were in his base and that were outside of his base chasing the oracles were different ones, since it is impossible without maphacks to move the marines to intercept both of them.
Those kinds of hacks are just not possible Maphacks simply make the game display info that it is receiving while bypassing the requirements to see it So while normally you'd need to have vision on a tile to show you the unit in there, maphacks make the game show you the unit regardless. The server doesn't control what is shown on your screen, so it's easy to do Mineral count is controlled by the server, so even if you where to send "i got extra minerals" the game would straight up ignore it because it isn't even programmed to listen to the client about mineral count. There's a good chance the game would just crash for having desynched mineral counts
@@rompevuevitos222 you seem knowledgeable. What about production hacks? Where it automatically produces workers and marines out of production facilities?
@@ToTheNines87368 seems doable, altho it would be more of a macro since starting unit production is not just client sided You could bind your unit production structures to a control group and have the macro make them But it would be pretty worthless First off it takes almost no time to do it yourself, secondly unit production is not something you can do on auto pilot, it is something you have to think about, so this would be worse than doing it yourself

Thanks for allowing me to enjoy starcraft from afar. I tried playing recently after watching your videos, but it was all angry people spamming offensive slurs in every single game I played. Decided to uninstall and just enjoy through your channel
Sounds like you had some bad luck there mate. Once you hit gold league and onwards it's generally pretty chill but there are definitely some angry nerds trying to spread their bad mood around out there. You can block communication in game if you ever feel like giving it another spin it's definitely worth it
What is good that if this is the fav game for a hacker, once they stop hacking, they are going to know how behind they are once they have to adapt to play correctly... Which are wasted real life time... The problem is that most are probably people selling accounts and they don't care about developing...
How did you know it was the same guy? Was he the only barcode Terran you faced on the ladder or was there some other info? I only watch Starcraft so I wasn’t sure if there was some info on the loading screen or something.
in masters+ you see the enemies MMR on the load screen, so when you see same race, same MMR you know it's probably them. And I checked match history on their profile after to confirm it was them vs me in the previous map
It's not the first time a maphacker was confirmed, but he did say that it's not that easy to get your hand on one of them. Apparently you need to commision one from a hacker which is a lot of effort for someone to invest in a game he is not even good at.
Not to mention maphacking in Sc2 does exactly this to people; having full vision makes you an extremely shitty player. To the point that even just having the hacks are an active detriment.
@@TheMuffinman191 Only bad hackers get caught. The successful hackers don't make it blatant that they are using hacks (i.e. they could just have a hack to look at the production tab and not map hacking or if they map hack, they don't make it obvious).
@@markpayton3895 Would still make you worse than your average masters player. You're giving up attention to those things to have perfect scouting basically. While a good advantage, it can bite you in the ass cause you're looking at a production tab and not the drop flying into your main, or the fact you havent built workers in 20 seconds. Starcraft is complicated game, you can't really cheat so hard its an autowin unless you give yourself infinite money.
Sadly, there's a very blurred line for waay too many. The fact there has been endless cheat codes for single player games for years doesn't help these mindsets. What's astonishing is the shockingly poor programming to combat even the most basic of cheating - and 'maphacking' is one such example. It's almost as if the devs allow this because they think it's another revenue source.
Disregarding cheating at tournament level, it's a video game, but they are IRL playing that game against others even if it's mostly for fake internet points and a mood boost. Still, that's technically all reward for effectively no risk which is a trade anyone would take. So the only notable "IRL" difference is that cheaters don't care about people they don't know (because cheating people they do know introduces risk)... which still doesn't say much about their day to day lives.
@@fluffyfang4213 I think if there was an opportunity that presented itself and, they don't think they can get caught, they would take that opportunity. Like theft or something, you have something they want and they just wait for you to turn your back to take it. I've had "friends" like that before.
@@ChrisM541 how do you suggest they should combat maphacking exactly? Do you even know how multiplayer works? What exactly makes you think that one of the best game engines is "shockingly poor programming"?
Actually I am not sure it's maphacking, just a rush enthusiast who is used to win or lose only with a rush. I did the same some years ago for a period and I got easily to Master with Terran, my offrace. So I think someone fully committed and just better (than me at least) can reach GM with that.
Yes, you can cheese your way to high leagues, but the looking through the fog of war and troop movement makes it pretty obvious this isn't just a one dimensional rush player.
Sc2 matchmaking and mmr is very good; the game will figure out how good you are. If you maphack, you will just play against better opponents, artificially boosted mmr. I dont think it would even be particularly fun to play against people better than me in every way but less map vision. Thats the end result of turning on maphack. Your opponents will out micro you like gods among an insect ect. You will win fights and games still, but only when your units and position is much better because of your vision. Your units will feel weak and underpowered because your opponents you face now are much better than you. Want your units to feel like heroes? Turning on maphack will make it feel like the opposite after you start to face tougher opponents.
There has been a massive influx of lag/ping hackers lately on the NA server. I've had probably 10 games in the last month where right before I win I suddenly drop out of the game with no replay of the game. But hmmmm I never drop from games like ever, and it's never when I'm about to gg out with a loss. Help us combat this cancer in sc2 PiG
The longer he hacks, the more his MMR stabilizes at a level where he loses half of his games anyway, just like everybody else. So all he acheived is to make the game less interesting.
We all played sometime 2 gold vs 1 master, etc. It's like that. The maphacker is above his actual league. He has information, you have macro and micro advantages. No need to get crazy. It's just another type of game. Playing handicapped vs a lower MMR. Like a gold with extra income vs a master.
@@kozatasthe problem is that the game isn't supposed to be played this way, if there's a fog of war, it's for a good reason, what this man is doing is called cheating lol.
Only other advantages I've seen used is a micro bot. It's usually pretty obvious though when they're used as you see each marine microed independently and 10000 APM. I'd say maphacking was his only hack given that pig's forward and back movements stopped him from macroing, and slowed his build.
Map hacking may be a little annoying, but remember that the player's MMR already factors in this advatage. So if you are evenly matched that means all their other fundamentals will be worse than you.
Dude, the moment I see someone named IIIIIlllllIIIIlI. I'd be very sus from the start. Had experience going against these players in different games and I guess they named themselves like that thinking that they wont get banned cause its hard to type their name or something lmao
Barcode names are there to make it harder to remember their playstyles. Very easier to remember that the person named xX_Nerd Destroyer_Xx cannon rushed, but if your versing a barcode - you cant be certain its the same player. This is more important in higher leagues than lower because of the lower player count so its much easier to remember certain players and their styles.
That's the whole point behind Detective Pig. He was dissecting the thought process (or lack thereof) of the Hacker. Clearly demonstrating his map knowledge trumped his actual skill in the game.

I really don't get how people who play that badly get matched against 5k+ mmr players. I mean sure, they have maphacks... But so what ? They can't even react to what they are seeing, and just throw away their units.
Why don't the map hackers at least scan? That way they could get a full picture of the base and not seem like they're looking through fog even though they'd be able to see everything. Absolute trash, I hope he got banned
I've seen players scrubbing out about dumb stuff saying things are broken when they just don't understand how it works. But there is nothing more pathetic than a person who cheats in an online PvP game. Except for the person who scrubs out when they lose a game they cheated in...

That's a crucial element of improving--not just in Starcraft but in everything. You can't control the world, but you can control yourself, so what's the point of blaming the world?
@@Thund3rstorm but the opponent lost... twice.
@@CC-bu2gv it doesnt change that the mentioned mindset means that you dont suspect people of cheating and default to “i just suck and need to get better”, which is usually a good mindset but means you wont suspect actual cheaters of cheating.
The sc2 community is pretty small but the player pool above 5k is even smaller. You know this dude will see this.
We can only hope he sees it and decides to try to get better and stop maphacking.
you are really good at the game man, well played
This gives me some ideas for sight abuse. That terran could have hide a bunch of Marines behind the natural's mineral line after pig went to the high ground. Would make for a nice surround.
you need brains for that

Thanks for making this episode PiG. I'd like to think my video I sent you a couple days ago helped inspire this. You made my day! :8)

Funny how opponent gives "gg" like it was a fair and honest game and probably Insta cues chasing that dragon of a GM win with diamond skill.
When you so good at a game - that you have strats to defeat opponents who are cheating to win lawls
thanks for the video PiG
EPIC suggestion! Stay tuned for this :)
@PiG omg ♥️♥️♥️
I'm bad at the game so I wasn't too sure about the maphack from like, a game knowledge standpoint, it was obvious they were a terrible player and had no business being here so maphack made sense logically, but like, I couldn't really tell why some of those moves were suspicious because when I see good player play whatever they do seems like dark magic to me anyway lol
That is until they hunted down those observers on game 2... like come on, even to me that's obvious.
Actually GMs are able to hunt down observers by zooming in zooming out. Check uThermal's channel. He regularly hunts down.
@@Dawindell lol, yeah if you can find observers in the fog of war, it's an amazing skill.
I love how pig's giving advice against map hackers like bronze maphacks don't all make it to gm.
Lol you could give a bronze player all the maphacks in the world and they'd struggle to crack gold league
@@PiGstarcraft dad?
On the first game, I thought he was cheating with more resources, since I thought I saw too many marines. But I thought the marines that were in his base and that were outside of his base chasing the oracles were different ones, since it is impossible without maphacks to move the marines to intercept both of them.
Those kinds of hacks are just not possible
Maphacks simply make the game display info that it is receiving while bypassing the requirements to see it
So while normally you'd need to have vision on a tile to show you the unit in there, maphacks make the game show you the unit regardless. The server doesn't control what is shown on your screen, so it's easy to do
Mineral count is controlled by the server, so even if you where to send "i got extra minerals" the game would straight up ignore it because it isn't even programmed to listen to the client about mineral count. There's a good chance the game would just crash for having desynched mineral counts
@@rompevuevitos222 you seem knowledgeable. What about production hacks? Where it automatically produces workers and marines out of production facilities?
@@ToTheNines87368 seems doable, altho it would be more of a macro since starting unit production is not just client sided
You could bind your unit production structures to a control group and have the macro make them
But it would be pretty worthless
First off it takes almost no time to do it yourself, secondly unit production is not something you can do on auto pilot, it is something you have to think about, so this would be worse than doing it yourself
Oo right o right. Great fun vid MrPIG
That was so satisfying to watch.
I just saw Winter go through this and now I'll watch you do it because fuck maphackers.
You know, I'd love to maphack and play like a campaign AI, I figure it would be pretty enjoyable for me and confusing for actual players :b
I think you missed such a good opportunity to just cannon rush that hacker. Wouldn't it be the perfect answer?
he'd be able to see it coming a mile away and pull SCVs to block it. My cannon rush is pretty bad too so would be hard to smoothly transition out of that one
@@PiGstarcraft hmm.. I guess I've watched too much Florencio Files recently. Forgot that it can actually backfire 😁
Yup! Can’t stand this guy lol. Lost to him the other day. I was like man, you played good! But I think you’re hacking mate! He’s like nah! But you see the game and he doesn’t even try to hide it lol.
Thanks for allowing me to enjoy starcraft from afar. I tried playing recently after watching your videos, but it was all angry people spamming offensive slurs in every single game I played. Decided to uninstall and just enjoy through your channel
Can't you turn off chat? It's been so long since I played that I forget, but it seems like it would be a basic feature.
@@PiGstarcraft thanks for explaining! These barcode players, man! GGWP, looking forward to the next one!
i fucking KNEW there were maphackers in sc2
finally proof. solid proof
Starcraft is complicated game, you can't really cheat so hard its an autowin unless you give yourself infinite money.
reminds me of the hacker police series in tf2
PiG idol on the comeback
series idea: pros vs. normies w/ maphacks?
I wonder what a cheater's life is like. Surely they take that same attitude into their real lives.
@@seyreine4836 True. Cheaters are, sadly, very common out there.
why do u not use w for warp gate? also funny vid :D
GM vs map hacking silver league player.
Did he get to Masters with god damn proxy racks? I mean he had to get his MMR somehow.. unless someone sold an account to him.
This was satisfying. So, did the player get banned?
With enough reports hopefully soon
its fun when someone pulls off the rush then gives you the W with trash bunker placement. what a scrub
@@kozatas Bro you are legitimately 'tarded.
@@kozatas or permaban the hacker.
@@kozatasthe problem is that the game isn't supposed to be played this way, if there's a fog of war, it's for a good reason, what this man is doing is called cheating lol.

Best attitude ever 🎉!
It was the middle finger for me…
Is maphack just where they have full vision? Or do they hack in other advantages as well?
Only other advantages I've seen used is a micro bot. It's usually pretty obvious though when they're used as you see each marine microed independently and 10000 APM. I'd say maphacking was his only hack given that pig's forward and back movements stopped him from macroing, and slowed his build.
@@CC-bu2gv oh wow. A microbot. That could be fun against AI
He did gg though!
Actually, this seems to be very logical gameplay. Everybody can see, what you are doing. This is never a maphacker!
Map hacking may be a little annoying, but remember that the player's MMR already factors in this advatage. So if you are evenly matched that means all their other fundamentals will be worse than you.
Beautiful!
This is how I play. Except no hacks. :p
Pig you need to play a best of 5 against lowko

Lowko plays High Masters, he is not a GM. Great Commentator and great player, but not a GM.

thnx Eskurian!
I don't get it.
Knowing your army's location, he still aims for a full frontal assault and chooses bad unit composition.
It's so bad. Poor loser.
That's the whole point behind Detective Pig. He was dissecting the thought process (or lack thereof) of the Hacker. Clearly demonstrating his map knowledge trumped his actual skill in the game.
When does he stream?
I usually stream monday, tuesday, thursday, friday and saturday 2pm-7pm pacific US, 5pm-10pm East coast US, 11pm-4am Central european time. Might be starting an hour or two earlier when daylights savings switches in a month or so
Looks like you are bullying a diamond player
Imagine playing Terran and needing a maphack instead of just building orbitals.
Hillarious!
I’ve never seen people hack in StarCraft like bro it’s a 20+ year old game
