I think 9 actually had the best weapon set ever, almost every one has a secondary use besides a weakness. But it was a good game. Decently challenging, and they did an excellent job overall with re-capturing that MM2 spirit. But one 8-bit game was enough, and to continue the retro theme, 10 really should have been at least SNES-style.
Agreed! Another 16 bit installment would have been pretty amazing. Even just give us an official Capcom MegaMan maker at this point that would let you change the assets between 8 16 and modern MegaMan 11 style.. fans are making some really impressive MegaMan fan games.
I’d like to imagine an alternate timeline where Megaman 9 and 10 could've been 32-bit or even look like how 11 looks and not regress the series to appeal to nostalgia Megaman 2 might've turned the series into an actual profitable franchise but I cannot stress how much I hate how the series constantly likes to parade it as if it's the only one in the series, even going so far as to strip down Megaman himself from sliding and charging, sometimes I wish MM2 wasn't the most popular and it's more sad that it took MM11 a few years to dethrone it in sales numbers My personal favorite of the NES Hexology is 4, it felt like the perfection of the formula, just wanted to point that out.
you are right there about 9 being 32-bit. 9 should have had 8's level design and graphical style or a graphical style to the street fighter alpha games or the marvel/capcom titles while i would rather 10 had wonderswan/neogeo AES style graphics, level design and gameplay mechanics of the metal slug games. for tunes i would use the megaman 3 tune when you select a robot master to take on, the tune from megaman 4 on GB after clearing a stage, and the tune from megaman 6 when you get a robot master's weapon. i would have kept the charge shot, the slide and the password system from past games in the series.
Mega Man 9 is kind of the one i'm the least interested in playing, even tho i'm still far from getting into it (still in MM4) Specially because Mega Man 2 is the one i disliked the most from the NES, what it does new is fine, but what it carries from 1 does worse (and is most), and the Wily stages just kill the game to me, and the fact people are so nostalgic towards Mega Man 2 specifically for being a best seller, also kinda disappoints me that Mega Man 9 took that for its direction, instead of the later Mega Man games primarily, even if presentation-wise this does feel more like the later games. Although i do believe 9 would be better than Mega Man 2 regardless.
Agreed! I do love the stages and music of this game but just scaling it back to mm2 for nostalgia is really a huge set back and I think that’s why after they released mm10 in the same fashion the series again took a hiatus until we finaly got 11..How are you enjoying 4 so far?
@@RockinKatReviews I like it about as much as 3, but i still like Mega Man 3 more than 4, but hey i haven't even got to Wily's stages yet, but objectively speaking, 4 is better than 3, it's the first Mega Man i can really think of that hits most things right instead of having hiccups like the previous.
@@rapappathepepper3996 that’s a good way to look at it. I feel the same I think they def refined it just enough where it’s a smooth playthrough. You shouldn’t have too much difficulty with the wily fortress. Once u finish the Cossack stages it’s smooth sailing
I couldn't get into 9&10, despite it being the main reason for buying Legacy Collection 2. Getting rid of the charge shot and slide took a lot of the speed aspect out of the game and felt like they forgot what made the classic series iconic.
I def agree I too picked up the legacy collection for the them. The loss of the charge and slide really took me out of it and especially what they did to my guy Protoman was unforgivable 😆 still for me MM6 still holds my top spot for the 8 bit MM
@@RockinKatReviews Agreed. Most people online seem to think that MM was suffering from same-itis by MM6, but I think 6 is the best of the8-bit bunch, and the flaws it did have were really present in 4 and 5 as well.
It's too bad the robot masters were so forgettable. The slightly more humanoid style from some of the other games felt much cooler and more cohesively designed. Made them look smarter and more agile and menacing. Comparing the sprites to say the ones in MM4, the difference to me is huge.
4 had some great designs..Pharoahnan and Skullman just to name a few favorites but I like that you pointed out the humanoid features bc many of the concept designs for MM9 and MM10 tended to start out with the humanoid aesthetic and thats a big reason I enjoyed prefer then also they do feel a bit more advanced aswell
yeah it was a neat novelty but ultimately I don't really like the idea of calling 9 and 10 mainline entries given its more of a regression of Megaman and his abilities rather then improving on them and they couldn't even bother to explain why that is in story which could have been summed up in a line of text or something, the fact it wasn't addressed or they don't give you the means to play the more modern 4-6 NES Megaman is why I have to deduct from the experience and no I don't consider needing to play as other characters like Protoman a compromise on that
Loved 9 but there were little gameplay quirks that bugged me especially the loss of the slide
Best in series
I feel like this is such a step back from 8
A step back to the past

MegaMan 9 was great but kicked my butt
My first go around was pretty brutal
A lot of things did happen for one….. Sega left the console business 😂
Savage 😂
Another cool video!
🙏
Still here waiting for MM12 😭
@@PikaChu-ui8bp maybe sooner then later
My only complaint about this game is that they chose Hornet Man over Honey Woman as the Bee robot master.
Atleast we had that Archie comics cameo :)
@@RockinKatReviews
Yeah that was cool
For me it’s that they chose Splash Woman over Ocean Man.
We could have made SO many SpongeBob movie jokes!
MM9 was good but I wanted another snes inspired MM
They def could have for mm10
I hate how they did Proto
Unfortunately He’s a glass house

They could've added a little more frames to the animation at least lol
That would have been nice! I think they just went a bit too far back to the basics
