Thanks for pointing that out. I was always under the assumption it was a reference to Sonic 3 and Knuckles in some sorts since it eventually got reworked into the Sonic 3 story

I agree there the biggest issue I feel is the ring count is so strict a couple hits from the bombs and your toast it can get frustrating. Blue spheres tho! Now your talking 😆

Both great! Breath of Fire is my series… BOF 3 was one of my first PS1 RPGs.. Did you play BOF4?

@RockinKatReviews Before Final Fantasy XIV released its Heavensward expansion, BoF3 was my favorite game of all time. It broke my heart that BoF4 didn't live up to it. I really didn't like 4. The story was weak, the characterization was off, and the most important part of a Breath of Fire game, the Dragon transformations, was borked beyond repair. And don't get me started on the Game Point system...

@@ReaverPrime you are spitting facts. I couldn’t agree more with those critics. I loved the gene splicing in 3. The story and most importantly I loved that art style. 3 is my favorite RPG it’s simple charming and just everything I wanted in a classic 2D rpg. Also going beserk and turning super sayian came outta nowhere. I remember telling a buddy I went super sayian as ryu in bof3 and he lost it when I booted up my save file 😆

I believe now the canonical order is officially S1 followed by CD but I was originally trying to go in order they released and from what I gathered CD came out a little after 2. The biggest mystery I am still trying to figure out is if the master system and Game gear story takes place before or after the events of the Genesis S2. I’m assuming the GG and SMS came first because there are only 6 chaos emeralds present and the earliest carnation of mecha or silver sonic is present here

The bad ending is pretty rough for a Sonic title. Not going Super Sonic I can live with but failing Tails completely is pretty unforgivable

So true 😆 I was attempting to be optimistic but yeah it’s just pretty bad overall

@@RockinKatReviews Yeah, I grew up with it, but didn't care for it. It was just a bit too punishing in its design. The screen crunch made the first boss ridiculously difficult! However, there is a PC fangame called "Sonic 2 SMS Remake" that adds some new content, characters, and adds some quality of life stuff to this game. Definitely recommend checking it out, if you can!

@@mattb6522 I wish they would find a way to rerelease the master system ports they are quite good and alleviates alot of my concerns (well hang gliders will always be bad). I definitely will check the PC game out…I’ve seen the remake of triple trouble recently and that looks great.

I would like to see a rebuild of this similar to the triple trouble fan game with a 2P option

@@AlphonseWeebay I’ve started to see that trend with many of my favorite franchises. MegaMan and Sonic to name a few…the fan games are so well done with tons of attention to detail throughout makes you wonder if we are seeing something in these characters the companies aren’t.

@@RockinKatReviews look at Christian whitehead. What he achieved on iOS by himself. The sonic blast games are insane. It’s not beyond Sega to give us a quality 2d multiplayer with competitive and cooperative online options and goals. Levels that cater to characters strengths. They were on the right track with heroes

I had a similar experience with my model 2 getting it that holiday… I picked it up with the Sonic 2 pack in and played Sonic 2 non stop. As far as the gamegear version I would always get the bad ending for several years …with the screen crunch it was really hard to locate the emeralds.. This was the first time I actually managed to get them all. But the good ending is really rewarding

Tails adventure is pretty awesome I played it when I first got my gamegear. Got pretty far but I never finished it. I think I was missing an item so I was running in circles.. Did u try out tails sky patrol?

@@RockinKatReviews yeah that one was fine but nothing special , if a Tails game didnt exist, what i would come up with would be something like Tails Adventure not Sky Patrol, i think what makes me like Tails Adventure much more than other 8bit sonic games is how much it makes sense, if the game was the same but you played as sonic or knuckles instead then it wouldnt make sense but as a Tails game its reasonable to slow down and think and build up yourself to beat the game

The battery life crippled a lot of the GG experience for me early on even with the ac adapter I couldn’t keep mine charged at times. The original Gameboy in my opinion had one of the greatest catalogs of original content. Felt like the Gameboy truly held the test of time you just couldn’t keep It down. There was a like an 8 year gap that I wasn’t playing games during my college years and one big reason I got into games again was the Nintendo DS and even by then they just releases so much new content for it at the time it was nuts. Now I feel like all I get from Nintendo are ports and remasters of their old games every other month but way back Nintendo was always giving u fresh new games on their handhelds

It’s funny because the gamegear collections have been released now over quite a few different collections. When I picked up Origins Plus I noticed they added some additional content to the original Genesis games and was thinking they would finally give the Game Gear and master system games the treatment but nope. The screen crunch really does these games a huge disservice and especially Sonic 2 it makes the game almost unplayable towards the last few acts. I’m with you all the way tho on 8 bit games I really love the originality to them I even had a great time with tails adventure I played that even more so picking it up when I got my original GameGear. My only big complaint comes with sonic chaos and triple trouble those chaos emeralds are painful to get especially with the time limits lol
