Fedex Ground driver here, my compensation is $240 a day. I wouldn't do the job for anything less then $200 a day. Don't fall for the per piece rate thats trash, and you def should make more then $170-$190 you have to be at least $200 to make it worth while. I've been with Fedex Ground now for a little over 5 years. I hope this helps. Great video by the way. Also this will vary from state to state.
The number one biggest reason FedEx utilizes contractors (the same goes for Amazon drivers) is that this is how FedEx (corporate) avoids the financial obligation of providing benefits such as health insurance, 401K, paid vacation, workers comp, unemployment insurance, etc. They also avoid battles with unions as well. On the flip side, the contractors limit the number of employees/routes they have so they too can avoid having to provide any type of benefits to their employees (slightly different minimums in each state). This puts the employees in the unfortunate position to rely on medicaid for healthcare or pay for insurance out of pocket, which is a joke for how much it costs.
How will fedex be able to merge everything? You can’t have a company full of only contractors and no employees can you? Sounds like they want a ups type company (one division) but without paying the employees properly
I only joined fed ex because I was in a horrible retail job with no growth at all no matter how great you were of a worker, I was trying to wait out and go to UPS but fed ex had a ad on indeed and I applied, I’m a driver helper it’s not horrible if your not making a career out of it and your just trying to make cash to save up. My situation is you still get paid for the day whole day even if you were to finish a couple hours early and weekends off.
I just started 2 months ago but my contractor starts you at 120 a day. But my warehouse just started doing express so we are about to get a raise. Don’t know what the raise will be yet though. But I heard it’s nice 👍🏼 but I love that you get dispatched by 8. My station dispatches by 9:30 🤦🏽♀️
Late dispatch and what sounds to be quite low pay isn't a good sign. Hopefully your terminal picks up the compensation, and if not the contractor you have specifically, maybe worth asking around and shopping other contractors in the same terminal to see if you can get a better compensation rate (even if the dispatches remain late). Stay safe and best of luck out there!
Thanks for this video I’ve just got a call from them waiting on my background and drug test i believe I’m getting 150 In training then after training will be 160 or so. In states like Maryland, California, Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, Washington, Arizona, Illinois, Alaska, Minnesota, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Louisiana, driving while wearing headphones or headsets is illegal.

This place is in no way, shape or form worth the time. Nothing is more insulting than seeing the competing company pay their employees 3-4x the rate for the same job.
@@blakebenke9340 I appreciate that! But I do very much cherish those five hours that I get to spend with my boy when I get home. No amount of money is worth more than hearing “daddy!” As I walk through the door between 1 and 2 everyday
Cut the BS. You're killing yourself out there matching the daily production of a UPS driver for half the wages and in many cases zero benefits. And few ever get done in 5 hours more like around 10 and many even if they do get done early have to wait for pickups.
Go watch my other videos. I literally think every FedEx driver should negotiate to get what’s fair for them or quit haha I negotiated and got what I want. Countless other drivers say they’re too afraid of their contractors not realizing a majority of contractors are desperate for drivers. I definitely do not match the daily production of a UPS driver. If I did I’d be asking for a raise or leaving haha in fact I made that very point to my contractor once upon a time.
You can try to cut a deal if you want but you are still a non union "at will" employee serving at the discretion and convenience of the employer. Even if you do somehow get a formal written employment contract can you identify for me the governing legal authority with the power to make the terms of your employment binding especially if you live in a so called "right to work" state where all power rests with the employer? The more irreplaceable you think you are the replaceable you become. @@Deliverypros
@@seanbrick2886 I mean…… there hasn’t been my experience haha it helps to follow through on your threat. I quit for about a week at one point before they gave me what I want 😂 my own little “strike” if you will. Drivers need to realize they have the power.
I live in Minnesota and have the same plan. I start off at $190 per day and $1 a stop after 150. I didn't realize people started off lower than $180 per day but i guess it depends where you live and the cost of living.
Thanks for the video my man, I appreciate the insight into other drivers' respective situations around the country. I just started, currently done 3 days of ride alongs as a runner, learning the details (scanner, how to route efficiently, safety tips, etc.), and likely I'll start doing some driving Tuesday next week. I think most drivers are probably very under-compensated, but if you have a route like yours (vastly resi), that ability to bust ass and get done in 4-5 hours makes the allure very strong, esp for young men and women to do this job for a few years. Good (not great) money, in relatively few hours. Not bad. Stay safe out there!
I’m in Maryland. Unfortunately they pay $150 per day and after 120 you get $1.10. But too make it worse now they cut a section from route went from average 160 stops to about 100-110 stops. Now I only make base pay and on top of that now with cut section I’m done at 1:30 but still have to wait for my 4pm pick up which I believe is unfair since I’m not making money and have to sit around for 2hrs doing nothing. Shitty contractor
Very helpful for video for folks considering this line of work - you really should calculate your hourly rate from true start to stop. The fact you have to spend so much time correcting the load of your truck (package car in UPS speak) is robbing you of that time. One area that would help is to share what benefits FedEx contractors offer. Presumably you are covered for health insurance through some other routes - what about 401k or other?
No benefits with my contactor. Most dont offer them. And as far as sorting the truck goes, it only takes about a half an hour a day. Today being a Tuesday it was so light it only took me 15 minutes to sort the truck and it only took me about 3 hours to deliver. So hourly, im raking it in.
Chris man I really really enjoyed watching you work & deliver Packages to people's house man. I enjoyed watching to see how your day is going to turn out. Keep on doing this man cuz I really really like it. Thanks you for sharing this.
I also make $160 with a $20 a day bonus so $180 a day. No threshold as I do a rather royal Vermont route. 65-100 stops. Most days boss man cuts it down and it stays under 80. Few small businesses, no usual pickups. Take truck home to save time. So no money spent on my commute either. I can’t complain. Having a good contractor is where it’s at👍
@@Deliveryprosbut bro you doing 40ish stops an hour. Done around noon!! I can’t top like 18 lol. Do you need a L20 license to drive the P700/1000s where you’re at?
Best pay I had was $125 base, $1 per stop from the start and then $1.50 a stop after 100. 140-160 stops a day with 250-300 packages, no pickups. During peak it was roughly 200 stops per day. 30 stops or so an hour but it was a 30-45 minute commute from home to the terminal each way and another hour or so each way to and from route. The pay was pretty good, about $300 per day year round. Back breaking work though, after 4-5 years of doing that everyday I got burned out.
