Hitler's Germany: Wins, Collapses by 1945 and is disgracefully divided.
Kaiser's Germany: Slowly wins, Slowly collapses, by 1949 and is given Czech and Austrian territories as well as Danzig and Alscass-Lorraine.
*I think despite the terrible loss of life, the Kaiser won a Greater Germany*
@@russellgardner5126 Well Hitler is just generally evil so that's a given, and yeah the kaiser was kinda dumb, but given the fact that Austria at the time of the first war was an ally of the Kaiser and France and Russia were not and everyone wanted to try out their new toys (weapons) against each other then it only made sense that a great loss of life would happen given the circumstances; as the tactics in Europe were not updated and nobody really knew how to incorporate the new semi automatic rifles and machine guns in warfare, so essentially the fault would lie on the generals and commanding officers for incorporating old tactics used since the Napoleonic Wars. As for why the Europeans didn't really look at the American civil war for reference for future tactics it's simply and most likely because they weren't interested in the civil war despite the massive loss of life which could be a direct comparison to the First War.
Especially when you consider the central powers got unlucky with how the Spanish civil war went.
@@crocodile5902 Germany had sent attachés to the US during the civil war and generally it was reported to it was a confusing war with questionable orders from the officers, so there was nothing to learn during the US civil war really

@@mydlear4238 To be honest there was something the Europeans could've learnt from the civil war especially the terror warfare inflicted to the southern and northern cities. The complete devastation of the southern cities as well as many entrenchment tactics is somewhat close to that of early WWI tactics. Yeah entrenchment tactics was used ever since the seven years wars, but nothing to the scale of WWI or the American Civil War.
The Germans and Europeans could've learned from it even if it's just based on the confusion of the officers or the lack of tactics that are ineffective with the current muskets at that time, as it can be a similar situation to early WWI battlefields where officers would use brute force to overrun the enemy position which results in mass loss of life
They could've learnt the shear scale of the strategy of the war, most strategies before then where focused onto one army or a split of that army under one General, but the civil war introduced a larger scale of that where multiple generals with equal sized armies would fight in multiple fronts like the Western front led by Sherman and Eastern front led by Grant, the entrenchments made by both sides to hold the front or encircle the enemy position, and the devastation of large cities caused by deliberation to destroy the war effort and infastructure of the enemy. All of which could've been something they could've learnt from nearly a century before WWI.

The only explanation that makes sense for how the German Empire ended up is Wilhelm calling Otto von Bismarck out of retirement at the last second, with Bismarck running the greatest diplomatic hustle of his life.

Funny enough, there's an old Legend where Barbarossa is just sleeping under a mountain somewhere with crows flying around it.
If Germany's ever in trouble, they can just walk up to the mountain, find Barbarossa's body, ask him for help and he'll come back to life to save Germany from whatever's troubling them.
Or the Germans invented nuclear weapons first so the Allies were forced into a peace deal fearing that they might strike the major Allied cities

Yeah, it was a heaty debate but we managed to maintain a diplomatic position which allowed us to demand rather than submit.

Well Austria started both wars in this timeline by invading the balkans. And Germany only defended their ally while trying to fight the soviets. Maybe they figured Austria needed to be contained by a larger state.

Here’s a tip if you’re playing as the German empire. Try to get Austria into the faction that you lead so you can get the decision on annexing Austria. You get cores their generals and soldiers (assuming Hungary doesn’t protect Austria or succeed in the referendum)

The Kaiser side was just complete chaos. The UK annexed France, Greece turned communist, the Baltic nations declared independence,
and at the treaty, Spain took southern and western France, the US took Belgium northern and western France, Yugoslavia took most of Eastern Europe, and even though Germany lost the war, they took land from Italy, Poland, France, and Czechoslovakia

If you lose to allies with almost any country, they just give you your shit back. Only reason the reich was split was because the historical game has historical peace conference options to rp. Since the German Empire losing to allies in ww2 isn't historical, it just gets the slap on the wrist treatment from allies ai.

Funny how, in the first scenario, after the war, both Germany and Italy still exist, while France is no more, being partitioned between Spain and the US.

From what I can gather and what remains true of Germany to this day is the German military both past and present have the strongest play as defense. Sure we might have examples like Franco Prussian war and Blitzkrieg of WW2, but both of those are cases where the enemy had little to no expectation in their enemy's ability. However, when faced up against a nation that know's the power of Germany, the Empire's best play was to push very little (enough to have a strong defensive) and hold the line. In short, Germany in all time had the strongest land defense of any nation outside of Russia (due to size and geography) and Japan given how tightly you can defend what's essentially and large Island. With such high defenses, all the German Empire had to do was wait till a term of conditional surrender existed favoring Germany or, if the war drags out to eventually crush the defenses, make the defense cost the allies so much that trying to dissolve it would be a death sentence for any nation and allow the empire to exist with some land gains as we saw in this example.
the problem is that russia and the US are much larger nations. they have both more resources as well as manpower, so it gets hard to compete

If you play the game you will know that it's much harder to not win as German Reich than anything else, it takes a really shit player or complete noob to not steamroll the USSR as the Axis, while keeping the Allies at bay. Most playthroughs, especially if you go with Germany or Italy, you can easily pull of a naval invasion on the UK and collapse them in less than a month (in-game). If you have not rivals in Europe the US will never break through your defences, and Japan usually takes the East, which gives you acces to trade for rubber. With unlimited access to rubber you can just outproduce the US in airplanes, and, if you really want, eventually invade them too. The game is just simple enough playing against the computer, more experient players can also pull of such stunts while playing with minor nations.

One thing I never liked about the historical AI focus on HOI4 is that Germany never even reaches Stalingrad or Leningrad during their eastern push. Not unless you modify the difficulty to their favor, which USUALLY results in them just capturing Russia entirely. Historical AI seems to care more about the political policies and such. But it's still a great game
