This was absolutely the best nightclub ever actually both of them were. I used to work there as a cocktail waitress and as a door girl checking ID! The Fizz nightclub was written up in Playboy! Absolutely one of the best times of my life.
FIZZ was my favorite spot...still have an Ace of hearts from one of their card tables and a matchbook. Great Times, Great buffet, Great dance floor, sound and lights! They set the standard for everyone else back then...... don't forget the drop down jumbo screen playing music videos or the house cricket music....
Neat. Boy I had fun in those days! I was a "Rick's Cabaret" dancer and we used to really dig 6400. It was elegant and GROOOVY! Congratulations and thanks to the duuuuuuude! Miss those sweet days..
Oh I remember Dallas Fontenot, from Rick's Cabaret and he had another place downtown Houston was it the Foxes den? I auditioned for him and he was offering me a job - but I backed out and didn't take it.
Oh my God I miss those times...did I have fun back then when places and people were so glamorous. I use to go to Fizz...aka Hippos, Ocean Club, Club Proteus, Confetti, Avalon, Club 6400, LaBare...but do have to say Fizz started it all. I wish clubs could go back like this instead of that Rap Crap which ruined the night life and should have faded away over 30yrs ago.
destra Loved all those places ' we. Were there at places you mentioned! Every week ! Happy hour was the bomb 😊👍😁😎😍 Those were the best days of clubbing
Oh yes we lived for nightlife back then didn't we? I can't imagine ever NOT being dressed up, when we would go out. Sometimes we would just stay at fizz and park our car in the valet on my nights off when I wasn't working there - before it changed to Hippo. And we used to go to happy hour and another place to called Elan... Very upscale. That's back in the days when Houston and it's oil well industry was just booming, jobs were plentiful and there were no organizations like MADD (mothers against drunk drivers)
I was there 35 years ago! I remember the lines out the door every time we drove by on the way to Windsor Plaza ! Yes I was hanging out at faces back ! Then with my good friend Mary ! We were curious about fizz then on Christmas Eve we decided to go and was hooked. Then my hubby and I when we were dating Back then we were there every week for their famous happy hour the Best and the best dance floor and fog 👍👍👍👍😎😍😂6400 Richmond the place to be and yes we loved ❤️ Hippo even my brother's were going with their fake id's Then in 1986 we discovered Ocean club on Yorktown 👍👍👍😁 that was a hot club Those were the days 👍😊🌺😁
Yes I worked at fizz but I also frequented Cooter's alot. You just had to go to Todd's and Faces while you were there at that plaza. I still have books of matches from all those clubs back in the early 80s.
We probably crossed paths. I was at Fizz and then The Ocean Club where I had a VIP card. Still have it. Wanna say I had one at Fizz too. Before 6400 and Peter's Wildlife do you know what it was called? I can't remember, but went alot of times too. That was the Era of ecstacy and hipp hop.
Oh my gosh that takes me back ! I remember my first club experience was at Boccaccio’s in the Galleria area.I was under age hahaha! I was there doing weekly modeling shows, Some of my favorites of course The Roxy,Oceans,NRG, 64 Hundred & Wolfgang’s HIPPOS ,Bayou mamas,Numbers,Blue Planet so many more clubs. Puranas, Avalon ,Crystal. I just love getting all dressed up the music and dancing all night long.
Fizz was one of my first "real" nightclubbing experiences... but prior to '86. I had older brothers... and the drinking age at the time was still 19... and I was close enough in age to get a TX DL with one of their birth certificates. Back then going out clubbing was a big deal. Everyone dressed up to the 9's. And everyone got their drink on BEFORE / on the WAY to the club--to save money inside. And, of course, if you could, you lined up your drug(s) of choice prior to as well--but plenty available inside also. I was still in high school, all dressed up, drunk as skunk, dancing the night away with mostly much older people... even hooking up with older women now and then. It was crazy in retrospect. But a different time. There were certain songs that would PACK the dancefloor... and then the light guy would hit the liquid CO2 switch and flood the dancefloor from above with ice cold fog... which felt AMAZING in the hot, humid, summer nights of Houston. RAIN by the Cult was one of those songs... and Venus by Bananarama was another. No matter where you were in the club or what you were up to, the second you heard those songs drop you beelined straight for the dancefloor and packed in joyously with 100's if not 1000's of other revelers. It was like midnight on New Years Eve... every Friday and Saturday night.
I was a regular at all 3 of those clubs on Richmond until the fire, and even went to the temporary 6400 club after that. but it was too small and not the same vibe. BTW, nobody was ever on X at that place. lol
I remember the years from 86-98. NRGs, Power Tools, Bayou Mammas, Lizard Lounge, Detour, Tantra, Shark Dance, Emos, Some, Club 6400, The Roxy, and even the original Sam;s Boat. their was the kicker places also. silverados, hullabaloos. Even Alvin had a great place called the Texas Rose hall of I-35. In the mid to late 90s they built that multiclub venue a street over from Richmond. I can't remember it's name. My friends and I would go to a club on Richmond, then go to Tantra around 1:00, try to pick up some dancers from ricks. Great days long past. On weird nights we would end up at Some where my sister and her friends went. I really miss those days. so much fun and we never got into any trouble.
Bryan Kerr That would be great! I wish I could find more footage on Fizz ! Can't find anything on any of the good nightclubs of that Era I have been looking! Nothing ! Just this small piece ! Loved it went to both places 👍😊😎😍
When I was an employee at fizz it was changing to Hippo in the mid-80s. I'm trying to think of the name of the promotional company that used to come out and videotape.., I think some names that would help to locate some footage would be Bud Schulenburg, and perhaps Tom Lord. There was a real famous PR lady that I work with during the pre-opening of Hippo - but gosh, I can't think of her name off hand... she was a highly popular personality in Houston & she was always on top of everything and everybody she knew it all. Did you think to check with Mike Steinman?
Loved Cooters. We’d hit both locations. The one located at Edgebrook on 45 was our choice when returning from a day of drinking and fun at Galveston. But the Windsor Plaza location was our club of choice.
Pretty cool. I wonder if they ever made a follow up video for 6400. What year did the place burn down before it was rebuilt with the building that's there now?
I probably would have liked FIZZ, don't think I would have care for Hippo. I did make it to Club 6400 right before I moved to Houston in 90. MY ex hubby was a rocker so we didn't hit the dance clubs we were at Backstage, Afterdark, Huirricane Alley and what ever other rock club happened to exist.
I went to Fizz . Then they had the place at Hillcroft Ave / Richmond Ave. that was 6400, Peter's Wildlife, but it was called something before that. I can' t remember what it was called. It was the same type Hippo was going on. I remember seeing Gambler's quarterback Jim Kelly and the normal the other Kelly Bros. in there. One was UT quarterback and the other was an Olympic contestant. One was named Sean and I think the other was Mike Kelly. I think. Was the place to see and be seen.
I think I went once. My hair was very long and they wouldn't let me in once because of it. 6400 turned me away once because I had on the wrong shoes...

Me too! It sure was fun. Ahhh but life goes on... "merrily merrily merrily merrily..."
With enough cocaine and ecstasy, and shoulder pads, anything is possible... :)

Saw Lloyd Cole and the Commotions at Fizz around 1987 - a rare live concert at that club. Anyone else recall that ?
