Back when the music was fabulous! Loved going to Bayou Mamas, Ocean Club, Numbers, Club 6400, Detour, Youcatan Liquor Stand. The Richmond Strip was live and well back then and cruisin down Westhiemer was the thing! Late 80's and early 90's...great times!!!
I used to work at the ocean club..had VIP memberships..to Fizz,NRG's lizard lounge, Metropol, power tools, Riches, and Numbers, best times of my life! Yeah wish I could go back :)
My mom and dad met here. My dad couldn't even speak English yet. He couldn't talk to my mom, he just walked up her and started dancing, and 10 years later they had me.
+George Athens great club...good memories. my buddy and i would go on sunday nights for the free buffett ( 1987) great food considering it was club food ( i remember the good quality fried shrimp) after the buffet, the lights from above would lower down and dead or alive would blast from the speakers.
I was born and raised in Houston, and went to ALL THE CLUBS.... started at Fame City ( studio circus ) then outside of Fame was a club called FX, then went to Splash ( westhiemer and synott ) from there was able to get into the big boy clubs ...lol DV8, RED SQUARE, POWERTOOLS, CLUB ECT, SHARKDANCE, YUCATAN LICK' HER STAND... ( LOL ) BAYOU MAMA'S, NUMBERS, HIPPO'S, CARDI'S,BLUE PLANET, KABOOM,LIZARD LOUNGE... AND............OF COURSE THE BEST OF ALL............. CLUB 6400.... I live in Dallas now and go to the world famous Lizard Lounge here in Dallas every sunday night for ( The Church ) THE .... LONGEST running goth, electro , EBM in all of Texas history.
I probably saw you at many of those! Club Hopping was fun back in those days. I remember the painting of Lyndon Johnson (I think it was) with the Pennies glued to it at Red Square. And of course, the painting of Edie Sedgwick at Xcess. And I vaguely remember the toilet seats at Confettis. 🤭😃
I started at Studio Circus and Studio A at Astroworld - teen clubs. Thanks for jogging my memory - DV8 and Splash were 2 clubs I forgot about that I went to.
I came over to to San Jack JC to play tennis in 88 from the UK. I loved the radio on Saturday nights I recorded so much from this club. Went there a fair few times too. Wow, great to find this
I worked for M&K aka McFadden Ventures from 76- 85 starting in HOU- DFW-ATL-FLL-TPA-MIA-JAX, elan, Confetti, Studebakers, Cowboy, Ocean, spin offs, Ménage, Face's in The Grove. I tell people stories of those days and they don't believe me lol, you had to be there, best time in my life!!
Wow, was surfing for 80's new wave remixes and this popped up. Saw Dead or Alive in concert here. What a place...this was as in as it got at that time.
How weird. I randomly googled "ocean club houston" and this popped. I too, saw Dead or Alive that night with three of my best buddies (1988 or 87?), two that have since passed away. We had a great time and were cracking up that night since the singer must have had some huge sock or cucumber stuffed in his stretch pants. Lots of fun.
Hi, I also saw Dead or Alive there, I was in the front row. It was one of many concerts I attended there, saw the Village People, many many more. Also loved 6400.
I wish I could do it one more time. That music , the beautiful people. I worked the door for McFadden ventures for several years. Balinese Room in Galveston, Confetti's, etc. Summers while I was in college. Ocean Club was my fave. Is there anything like those places anymore? I would sneak in and watch from a corner.
@Coburn Karma I can tell you it damn sure wasn't me. I mixed those songs entirely differently. This was probably some dude at home with a Pioneer controller and a few MP3s from his youth, trying to be a DJ.

OK Hammer, I have been looking all over for the name of an obscure techno dance tune that was in the style of George Kranz/Nitzer Ebb. Hard on electronics, moved all over the place, and the only words I can recall is at the end of a stanza something about "Peanuts"? Help a dude out and point me in the right direction so I can try to find a copy of this song? This has been years in searching! Thanks!

I opened it as a manager back in 84, fantastic club. Our first concert was Sly Fox. The company also owned Rialto, and Confetti at the time.

I am ready to go back to those days.
@simply the best No. Ocean Club did not become 6400. I don't recall a buffet... 😂

It was 18 and up. This made me frequent the Ocean Club much more than 6400.
