Age 17, December 96, Dave Angel, Atomic Jam, changed my life forever, didn’t stop going to the Jam until 2012. Thank you for everything. Jeff Mills, Carl Cox, DJ Rush, Richie Hawtin, The Advent, James Ruskin, Dave Clarke, Speedy J, CJ Bolland, Steve Bicknell, impossible to describe or express the passion and love I felt for these nights, no phone or images, just ticket stubbs and stories. In my heart and in my head forever, unforgettable.
Atomic Jam nights at Que Club will live me forever. This video captures the excitement of those days. What an iconic venue and what a time to be alive.
i was there in 1996 during the radio 1 essential tour. boy george, pete tong and carl cox. travelled all the way from South Wales............... what an atmosphere... what a night...... what music.
I was lucky enough to have a mate at Birmingham uni so whenever I visited we'd go here, Atomic Jam, Union Jack, Orange... nothing else ever came close, definitely the best nights out of my life!
Done majority of the parties mentioned in the film, Atomic Jam, HOG, Space-hopper, Ultimate Orange at the beginning 94 to 98 also Cream etc. Then a couple of flashbacks then retired lol. Seeing as I had been at it since late 89 😂 Good watch though 👍🏻
Amazing nights were had. Some of my mates have kept their ticket stubs for Atomic Jam and House of God from 1996 onwards. I somewhow never managed to keep mine as they just turned to mush in my jeans from the sweat and moisture generated by dancing for 6 hours solid.
Could throw a throw others in there as well, code, subway city, bonds, wobble, The Church, all good in their own right. I've not been all over the world but I didn't need to to know Brum was a special place in the 90's
Bl00dy hell, the Hummingbird 😮 you've got a good memory lol. I saw Public Enemy in God knows when, found a back stage vip pass but was to chicken to use it, memories lost!!! 😮
Especially remember 30th August 1997 into 31st August Princess Diana passing away ❤ some good times loved the Chapel with the Drum n Bass Jungle ... Fond memories
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the Que Club. What a time it was! WooHoooo! AJ and HOG... Awesome, life changing. We owned the world! What happened to all of that power and optimism?
Atomic Jam,14th Oct 2000. Luke Slater, Ben Sims, DJ Hell and others.... Was a night out for my 20th bday.. Absolutely awesome!! I went to London to pick up mates from the rave crew, then up to Brum for the night.... Outstanding... And of course, the random happenings at the Maccy D's by New St station at 7am before train back to London... God I feel old, god that was fun!! : )
@@keefymckeefface8330 Awesome! I'm sure I have some photos somewhere, printed by snappysnaps from a disposable camera! Will post if I find them!! Oh, for those days.... : )
Was there. Great night. Lived 30 mins walk away. Remember 4/4 rattling through my head as i walked back home. The last jam i went to. Always remember ❤️
Does anyone remember the old boy who would walk around Atomic Jam with two flashing LED torch's which spelt put Atomic Jam? He was prob in his 60,s with beard and glasses.
Atomic Jam, Flashback and Sundissential were all amazing at the Queue Club. I have fond memories of exploring the corridors and stair wells high on acid 😂
RIP John Knowles of "Scientists in Space" (decor)- Responsible for the infamous giant COVID molecules hanging from the ceiling. Also the UV painted backdrops and not forgetting the themed side rooms and back room. He was paid in beer and usually ended up owing the club.
Getting lost for TIME only to walk in at the bottom of the main room thinking 'how the fuck did I get here?' and where did I leave those fuckers again? Watching perplexed as orange and blue nuns ran past (yes they did) me making memememememme sounds in the corridor. People from all corners of wherever people setlle. You were my friends. You ARE my friends. I some day hope to meet you ll again, at least, under the same circumstances! Stop the world, i want to get off in 1994!
This video sums it up. It was a unique place at a unique time. For a few years, we went down to nearly every event. HOG was special but so were Atomic Jam, Ultimate Orange, Space Hopper etc. Wonderful people, fantastic music in a special place.
No other venue or night I've ever been to captured the vibe better than Atomic Jam at the Que Club. That dancefloor will remember my size 10s well and I'll never forget the immeasurable feeling of happiness that flooded my system the first time I walked into that main arena.
I too, was one of those lucky people who got to party at the Que Club. I only went 4 or 5 times circa late 95, 96 - 97 I also got along to 2 days of the Castle Morton Gathering!!! BUT those nights were both life affirming and life changing. I don't know who was playing, I don't know the names of the nights BUT I do know they were some of the most amazing club nights I had ever experienced. The venue, the music, the people The Que all the stars and planets were aligned for a perfect moment in dance music when Techno and Rave came in from the cold. Thank you to all those involved in creating this awesome tribute and to all of the contributors. Techno and Rave took me on the path to Trance which has taken me to so many amazing nights, venues, gigs and DJ's creating awesome experiences around the world. Many have been incredible but only a few have matched the excitement and energy of the Que Club. So grateful to have been on this musical journey for the past 30 years.
First time I went to the Que was for the Gatecrasher birthday party in September 1999. Came up the stairs having no idea where we were going and walked through what looked like your typical living room door into the main room. I was absolutely blown away with what was going on and something I’ll remember for the rest of my days. Folk going bonkers at the seats that went right up the back to the gods. Looked like a football terrace behind the goals. One night I wish I had gone to was the legendary Essential Mix in 1995 with Oakenfold, Sasha and Rampling.
Great documentary. Took me right back there. The 1990s feel like a utopian dream looking at it from 2023. Birmingham gets slated all the time but it was an amazing place for raves and people from anywhere , any race coming together. Particularly Atomic Jams at Que club. Miss those times. Living for the weekend was my life. What's your name ? Where you from ? What you on ? ❤
My God do I miss the Qué. I'd park up next to the sound desk on the lower part of the balcony bang opposite the stage & spend the next 6,7 or 8 hours dancing & making shapes with my light sticks. Went to most nights but Atomic Jam holds a special place in my heart...those nights helped shape the bloke I am today. Also...who remembers the old hippy guy who used to walk around with a carrier bag of plastic toys like dinosaurs etc?
First time I went there my brother had been before so he covered my eyes and guided me up the stairs and through the corridors and out onto the balcony before taking his hand away, I literally fell over in shock at the sheer size of the place with the entire room rocking. From that night on if there was an Atomic Jam I was there. That place changed me in ways I can't fully explain. Truly amazing.
The first rave I ever went to was at the Que Club sometime in 1994. I remember walking up the grand staircase and entering that magnificent main room! Oh yeah and getting a bit lost in the outer corridors later on. I went a few more times after and always had a fantastic time ❤😃
Same here. It was an awakening, an insight into another world, and I loved it. If there was a club half like it in th eUK atm I would be there. I don't care if I am mid 40s neither. Just one more night of dancing would make me happy...
I remember for a NYE Atomic Jam ticket touts hanging around when we were queuing and desperate ravers buying tickets for £50 - £50 back then, shit! - just so they could get in. Memories.
The lady produced sitting by the mixing desk I took your photo at a synage gig in the subway club on my 21st birthday 1997 you haven't changed a bit respect
Worked there put on some parties there and know quite a bit about the owners and how it came about and exploded into the UK’s most iconic secret super size rave venue, so big Bowie asked to play there when he launched his album Earthling. Oh the stories and memories
I was there at least one night most weekend during my time at UCE (what is now Birmingham City Uni) between 95 and 98. If you remember some skinny lad with a metal canteen for water instead of a plastic bottle like a normal person that was me. Ultimate Orange, Spacehopper, House of God, Oscilate, Atomic Jam, Bubble Club among others were great and I'm happy to say that I'm on at least one of joolsfx's videos posted here on UA-cam - highlight of my time there was collaring Daft Punk after the concert that was later released for the "Alive 97" album as they came off stage and getting the cassette sleeve of their first album signed :) For me who didn't take any sort of drugs it was an endurance test as much as a great night out because as mentioned there was nothing else open late so you had to be there all night as the buses didnt start until 6. But there was a canteen in one of the rooms of to the right hand side of the main room (if you were facing the stage) where you could get a cuppa and a freshly cooked burder to keep you going. And then I got my reward for going the distance by queuing up at the McDonalds on the ramp up to the Pallisades shopping centre to eat most of the breakfast menu before getting the bus back to student digs.
Them were the dayz !! So glad HOG got a mention. I was right up on the back balcony when the Viking ships came in from each side like they were sailing on the waves of people below ! Magic ;)
I remember once I was in the queue to get into the Que club. There was a couple of lads and women just in front of me. They were coming up and all happy. One of them had a disposable camera and he took a pic of someone he was with just as this massive black geezer was walking past. He stopped looked at the lad and said DON'T TAKE PICTURES OF ME. I think he took the camera off him aswell. That was probably the only hostility I personally ever saw connected to the Que club. And I went there all the time.
I feel very lucky to have been able to be a part of this amazing experience that was the Que club back in the late ‘90’s. Atomic Jam will forever live in my heart as the best clubbing experience I have ever had the pleasure of attending - the CJ Bolland birthday bash was such an incredible night. Thank you to the promoters, the DJ’s and the Que club massive - the golden trio of clubbing perfection.
Some of the best nights of that era waiting in the cue for the Atomic jam and the windows nearly getting blown out by the bass vibration DIY in the back room roni size, Jeff Mills, fabio grooverder along with the best crowds ever Quality nights never to be repeated
When the club finally reopened after the 'refurbishment', we excitedly walked round the whole place looking for the improvements. Couldn't see any difference until we eventually, mid-rave, went to the 'tea room' and found that the clogged up bowl of sugar had been replaced by sachets. What a difference that made to the 3am cup of tea experience, I can tell you.
Magical Club , First time I ever went was Obsession around 93 , as the vid says, first time me and my mates walked through a door into main room it was like WTF. Went regularly after that , Quest/Pure X/ Dance Trance/ Atomic Jam /Dance Planet etc etc then later on the DnB raves like Music First/Planet V etc then Flashback etc before retiring disgracefully from raving about 2001. Best venue in the land and I had been to most of them.
Was due to be interviewed for this till covid stopped world, one day maybe three and half years of my life working with people having little experience but loads of faith
John I was so upset we couldn't get to interview you. we tried a number of times but lockdown's and Covid got the better of us. Lot's of people asked after you and remembered you fondly. Jez
Never went but always knew about it. We all have our own sacred clubs, and the magic and special memories these folk recount are precisely the same as I feel about my own club. What a time to have been young!!
Used to go in 93/94 to House of God, Space Hopper and also saw Massive Attack v Mad Professor. Que Club was hands down the best club I’ve ever been to. Seeing this took me back to my youth and gave me that feeling of everything being new. Brilliant stuff!
Never knew this was a thing. Really cool documentary, thanks 👏🏼. I started going out in Birmingham from about 2010 (born in the early 90s) I feel like since then, and perhaps since the end of Que club, Birmingham just hasn’t been anywhere near the same. I had hopes for Crane but the incident this past month just show how much things have changed. I think Birmingham is screaming for the next big thing, I just hope it will be all about the music
For me the best parties at the Que Club, by far were Renaissance, the place lent itself beautifully to the fantasic post rave epic sounding Progessive House that Renaissance djs were known for , in fact May bank Holiday ball 1994 , was my finest clubbing night out ever ! Viva Que club x
I hope someone makes a documentary about the Plymouth Warehouse. A special place in the 90’s. I will never forget the way the kick drum echoed in the theatre acoustics. The atmosphere was sensational. It was like walking into the future, a magical wonderland.
Had some mental nights here. Techno to start with, then Sundissential. Proper carnival atmosphere. Sitting in those high up seats looking down on the ‘congregation’ or getting lost in the corridors. Absolutely mangled it has to be said. Birmingham had so many great clubs mid to late 90’s. Tin Tins will always be the pinnacle for me but the Que was bonkers.
The first Pure X there was just something else, was first time going there and the whole production and music/vibe on the n night was different to anywhere else. Lots of ravers but still felt quite intimate. Was a specials club for sure!
Man I had some mental times here, HOG, Atomic Jam, Space hopper, flashback... no venue like it ... Big up Chris hog and Danny maher tho for having the 2 best nights in techno, real pioneers
I'm.suprised they didn't mention the true glue that held that place together - a shit tonne of drugs, lol 😆 Loved those couple of years in my youth at the Que.
Went que in 2002 for a flashback we got the train from chelt will never forget that night it was brilliant my memories battered but I can remember that 😂👌
I went to so many different venues through the 90's but The Q club was really special. Logical Progression,PureX,Hysteria,Quest etc etc. Absolutely amazing place. Forever in my heart ❤️❤️
went many mental nights over the years. Roni and whole Bristol crew, the queue outside looong, the press inside amazing. any number of atomic jams, flashbacks, you could pretty much guarentee a decent saturday night whatever was on. always plenty of rooms with different scenes
Thanks for this documentary, amazing times - nothing came close to the Que club! We came down for Atomic Jam from Leeds and were regulars at Orbit too!
Behind the high st shops in central birmingham.o went to the opening night .can't remember a thing (so great night).I think you had to exit the venue to goto the toilets across the road or around the corner.
Probably my favorite venue in Birmingham in the 1990s. Went to many gigs and rave-type nights there. I just remember it being a bit of a warren and an adventure walking around. I remember one night I was out of it and found myself in a long black corridor. I said to my friend I'm going to run down there fast. No idea where it went but would just run down their blind. It turned out to be a wall painted black and I knocked myself out. LOL. Lots of memories there but one stuck when were in there the night Princess Diana died in 1997. We were there to see Roni Size. We left the venue late and got in cab right outside. Once in the cab flew around the bend at the end of the road - far too fast - and hit a girl who'd left the venue and she hit the windscreen and flew over the top of the cab. It was really horrendous. Luckily most nights at the Que Club were not like that. Off to the top of my head, some of the gigs I went to there were Pulp, Underworld, Orb, Tricky, The Chemical Brothers, Bentley Rhyhum Ace, Massive Attack, Gary Numan, Daft Punk (at the Alive 97 recording), Blur, Space and many more.
Loved it in there but one night back in 1994 I had just a little bit to much speed , which sent me on a massive parra trip . I was walking around the place trying to hide from all the black gezzers thinking they were all after me . Quite hard to hide from them as it was a Quest jungle night 😂
Haha every talking about the good times if you went to jungle DnB nights in there you saw how ghetto things could get Pure X Quest Hysteria Fibre optic Crazy times
Funny how back in the 90s we had it sorted fast forward 2023 the worlds full of problems cultural, gender, climate et cetera et cetera et cetera. Take me back to the 90s

I was either by the speakers down the front right or up the back of the balcony during that whole time as well 👊👊👊

I knew crazy Cambell from Smethwick used to tell me about fights with the Police in there sometimes!
Atomic jam at Que Club was best of the best nothing has come close
Que club and Leeds corn exchange were awesome went Que club on a Renaissance Nye
No judgment, great tunes and vibe, I had the best times there ❤
I hope someone makes a documentary about the Plymouth Warehouse.
Awesome nights, Cream 95 and 96
The first Pure X there was just something else, was first time going there and the whole production and music/vibe on the n night was different to anywhere else. Lots of ravers but still felt quite intimate. Was a specials club for sure!
one word AWESOME
Man I had some mental times here, HOG, Atomic Jam, Space hopper, flashback... no venue like it ... Big up Chris hog and Danny maher tho for having the 2 best nights in techno, real pioneers
I'm.suprised they didn't mention the true glue that held that place together - a shit tonne of drugs, lol 😆 Loved those couple of years in my youth at the Que.
Awesome documentary 👍🏼
Went que in 2002 for a flashback we got the train from chelt will never forget that night it was brilliant my memories battered but I can remember that 😂👌
I recognise some of my footage from this video!
I went to so many different venues through the 90's but The Q club was really special. Logical Progression,PureX,Hysteria,Quest etc etc. Absolutely amazing place. Forever in my heart ❤️❤️
I know it's controversial but I loved Bubble Club,Flashback,Oscillate,HOG 🕊
Atomic Jam!
Institute set the bar... going the que however prevented me going church on a Sunday as I'd already been on satdy night👌
went many mental nights over the years. Roni and whole Bristol crew, the queue outside looong, the press inside amazing. any number of atomic jams, flashbacks, you could pretty much guarentee a decent saturday night whatever was on. always plenty of rooms with different scenes
Brilliant doc. So many memories from the que atomic to spacehopper
Thanks for this documentary, amazing times - nothing came close to the Que club! We came down for Atomic Jam from Leeds and were regulars at Orbit too!
Best venue ever
Goosebumps
"All nighter : 9:30 Am - 06:00 Am" 😜
Was a fantastic venue .as I remember like an old church
Behind the high st shops in central birmingham.o went to the opening night .can't remember a thing (so great night).I think you had to exit the venue to goto the toilets across the road or around the corner.
Anyone recommend any rave documentaries etc? 92 to 96- early 97 era
One of the loudest clubs I'd ever visited
Loved it in there but one night back in 1994 I had just a little bit to much speed , which sent me on a massive parra trip . I was walking around the place trying to hide from all the black gezzers thinking they were all after me . Quite hard to hide from them as it was a Quest jungle night 😂
We had Zap & Escape club in Brighton, Sterns in Worthing happy times.
Zap equally respected as a mini Que Club!
BEST NIGHTS OF MY LIFE - FLASHBACK - ATOMIC JAM 4EVER
great doc..but why no mention of the garage rave?
Saw Massive Attack and Mad Professor at The Que, epic venue for such sounds!!!
Haha every talking about the good times if you went to jungle DnB nights in there you saw how ghetto things could get
Pure X Quest Hysteria Fibre optic
Crazy times
I would say the monastery in Torquay came very close to this place
It's a good job Atomic jam was on as it would have closed a lot sooner if it was solely jungle
Any footage or audio of Underworld at the Que Club ?
🐐
Tin tins was mental also
Does it have any 'tunnels' underneath? 50 notes says it did.
Funny how back in the 90s we had it sorted fast forward 2023 the worlds full of problems cultural, gender, climate et cetera et cetera et cetera. Take me back to the 90s
