  • Okay so this is the first vid of the year. I am doing an unboxing of the iGrowtek 2 foot full spectrum LED grow light setting it up in my new office (We just moved into a new house) and sowing some seeds to kick it off. Took me 3 days to finish editing and getting around to uploading it. I already have seed pots germinating so I'd say its a success. This light comes with a stand and at 2 ft its perfect for almost anyone wether you live in a home with a garage or a studio apartment in Manhattan this could actually get you started growing cacti from seed at home. I gotta be frank growing plants from seed is almost better than sex (*Almost) but seriously its so gratifying and you get plants at the price of seeds and patience. Anyway I am sowing a number of different genera not just cacti but agaves as well as various Mesembs.... lets see how this little LED performs. I plan on testing various LED light setups and soils / strategies etc moving forward as well as doing updates on the seedlings as they progress. Let's do this shit together!
    I just dropped a some new gear that is available at

    I know I have been hard to buy stuff from and I have been reading the comments even if I can't always respond to everyone. I see and hear you all.. I will be making my pottery available on the site as well. I am currently working on a batch and will be doing regular drops of plants and other cool shit. I thank you all for your support and am humbled that I get to do this everyday. More videos coming!

    Nice video. I've been growing indoors this past year and use 3 20W LED strips and lost the orange, red on my variegated asterias, so I maybe low on light still.
    Add a fan for moving air or you will get fungus, black spots showing up on your cactus. This also helps them dry out.
    I got the individual lids covering pot and put them in a tray I fill with water when it dries out in the first few months after germinating.

    I love sand as a top dressing too for the same reasons, you will see almost no fungus no algae, specially if you are applying the baggie method.

      @@CactusQuest I believe that you have good hands with cacti anyways jajajaja I switch method becouse the baggie tend to give mold problems a lot and not species tolerate high humidity after germination. Now I use germinators with plastic leads and start to open them one week after germination, air circulation prevents those problems too!

    • @CactusQuest
      @CactusQuest  5 місяців тому +1

      @@mcactus6210 right on. I have basically been removing things out of the bags if and when the mold / algae become unstoppable. That’s been the only way to stop it. Drying it out. I’m gonna experiment this year with a hand full of different techniques. Growing some new genera and want to see what works best. Love hearing how other people are doing it.

      @@CactusQuest isnt 2,5hours in the oven a bit too much? also temperature wise how hight do you go for the sterilisation (im doing it at 80C for about 40' in an already soaked soil for better heat distribution)

    • @CactusQuest
      @CactusQuest  5 місяців тому +1

      @@kyriakosbastas8817 well this is my first time baking it. I have microwaved the soil in the past. I want to say for 2 or 3 minutes. after looking online and talking with a handful of people. I seemed to get a different approach from everyone. I have not ever used soil right out of the bag before I usually mixed up an inorganic substrate and soaked in fungicide first. This time I tried the oven. I don't know tbh if its too hot for too long. I guess time will tell with the outcomes. I did however stir it around the soil was a bit damp and so I mixed it once about halfway through the time in the oven. Soaked it afterwards in distilled water.

    How do you know that it works if you just set it up? Your light is too far from the plants and its only 10w so probably around 1200-1500 lumens max and that's not enough. A good 2ft led strip uses 24w and has multiple rows of leds and even then you need at least double up those for proper lighting. I have been using over 16 led strip lights for more than 2 years now.

    • @CactusQuest

      @@CactusQuest Btw it's nothing personal and I dont doubt your botanical knowledge. Just your growlight knowledge. I get so annoying when I see plant tubers recommend lights that they dont really know anything about when there's better options on the market, and without even testing it! (3 days is nothing). Give it at least a month or even a year

      @@CactusQuest Wow what a reply, my guy. I'm just trying to help your plants and prevent your viewers from buying an overpriced and underpowered light. There's already many better channels here on youtube that actually test and teach about growlights with many years of experience, you would know that if you did your research. You dont even know if the diodes are going to start burning off or dimming in a month, it's been 3 days! Congrats for germination but you'll soon find out that it only bright enough for maybe a snake plant, zz plant or some pothos! lol Anywho, viewer lost!
