The Tao of Mushroom Growing. 02:10 It's no coincidence that he chose a river as a background. This guy gets not only mushrooms, but life. Thank you for the useful info and the beautiful way you share it with us!
I spent years doing sensitive wet work in a biology lab. Your advice for sterile work is better than anything I’ve seen before. I wish I had seen this video before having to learn things to hard way.
This video is very much a super informative "bill nye the science guy" personality with much more inner dialogue that I go through. Couldn't have come at a better time
Yeah i remember when i started with growing mushrooms. Damn it was a lot of thingso learn, and back then (almost 11 years) there wasn't any helpful stuff like this guy on YT. Most of my first approaches failed so hard, but when you get your first succesfull growth it's a self-runner.
Good job young man. I have ADHD but was enthralled enough to stay focused till the end. Amazing feat if you knew me. :) Kind of the reason I am exploring medicinal benefits of mushrooms.
As a beginner to mycology, I just wanted to say that your videos are the most approachable while being coherently technical. Your production quality and sense of humor are a welcome addition. I can see that you are all-in with this endeavor! The 1025R tractor and beautiful lab are clear signs of your investment. Good luck, and thank you for the guidance 🙏
You are a godsend. These high-quality, long-form videos are so much more helpful than reading through pages of Shroomery from decades ago. And you keep it entertaining too! I wish you the best of luck. You deserve all the success.
Standing by ready to soak up the wisdom! Your presentations are the most informative on UA-cam and your slightly goofy personality make science class fun! Thank you for sharing your spore wisdom with us❤
Absolutely excellent information. I was wondering why my plates contaminated at the edges, and figured 'bad plate' from supplier....then I saw your technique with micro-pore and learned I might be the problem. And that's a morsel of the information I've taken from this video! Thank you.
❤❤❤ Yes all videos from you are top. I'm having to get involved with mycology to treat my stubborn chronic cluster headache. Really appreciate such wisdom ❤❤❤❤
By far the most informative fungi cultivation vid I have ever seen. I’m really stoked and I’m gonna give this cultivation a go real soon. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keeping the vid interesting and comedic.
Learning on UA-cam has been a challenge. A lot of the growers are also selling mentorships and consults. It seems like much of their content is just feeding you enough information to get you interested in a paid mentorship (nothing wrong with that). This video is the first one that I found that went into detail and specific processes in this much depth. This is after watching dozens of hours of content from other channels.
Wow 🤯Wow, the best video I've ever seen, the most knowledge presented concisely and simply, since I fell in love with this topic. That's over a year ago spending hours on watching different stuff on UA-cam and other places.
Excellent info. Struggled with using parafilm myself before. All these tips and tricks which come from so many hours of work is going to help me next time. Going to save this video for future reference also. Thanks so much
I work in a micro lab and a small flame of an alcohol burner is not going to give you a small sterile area around the burner. In fact any upward movement of air by thermal rise is just going to bring the particles into your area faster from lower in the air column.
Waw! So much information in a single video! I don't do mushroom culture (although I may, eventually, who knows...), I do Orchid Seed In Vitro culture. Still, so much of this information was useful and relevant for my own techniques!! I mostly try to avoid the fungi, bacteria and other contamination and I use a glovebox. A home made glovebox! It takes a whole lot of confidence to do it just next to a flame and no walls around! Thank you for the insightful content!
I know a lot of folks use mushrooms for natural dyes, but mostly just foraged specimens. Haven't come across cultivators specifically growing for that purpose, but no reason not to try it!
Wow! What an incredible video, you cover all the bases without being high af or talking through a mask. 😄Excellent content! I absolutely despise the way scalpel blades attach to the handle. Can't believe no one has come up with a better solution yet.
I totally agree about the blades, it’s setting us up for injuries! I think I’m going to start using pliers to hold the blade when changing them out, for added safety.
@@dcfromthev Thank you! For some dumb reason that thought never even occurred to me. I'm legally blind, can only see partially out one eye and I always feel like I'm about to stab myself while changing them. Very tedious. No joke, when I opened the handle the first time, I thought it was defective. I was like... this is IT?? You've got to be kidding me. Seems like a design that hasn't changed in the last 600 years or so, it just seems incredibly unsafe. (even for people who can see just fine)
Aw man you're just like me! Except you know way more and have way more experience in mycology. Thank you for this banger video, I'll be learning from this for a very long time. And I know this is late, but welcome back to youtube!
Simply awesome! Like you said... a lot of info. But one thing I was wondering; do you soak the grain before inoculation? Or just let the mycelium devour the sterile grain? It took me two days to get all the way through, but it was worth it. Keep up the good work. I look forward to checking out more of your videos. Oh, I just noticed a deep dive on how to make grain spawn 😊 Guess that's my next stop!
Ran some true blue genetics in some all in one bags a few months ago, the local shop here in Denver sells their stuff! Extremely entertaining and educational video loved it thank you very much!🍄🌱😎
Wow! The timing of your video drop is perfect for my level of knowledge right now! I've been playing around with agar with some successes and a few failures as well. The techniques that you've outlined are EXACTLY what I need right now! Looking forward to taking my agar genetics back to LC and onto grain. Thanks again for your amazing content! I'm going to go check out your website now. Mush love!

Such a good video. I can feel the passion for mycology through the screen. This is what I love, Good people sharing their knowledge in a creative way for all of us to learn. Well done, and thanks for sharing with us!
Hi from Caracas Venezuela, excellent content my friend... I learned a lot in this first video I have seen.... I am just starting... One of the best educational content if not the best I have found on UA-cam, to the point and cristal clear 👏👏👏
God Bless You, your motivation is much needed. Mycology is like trying to take on the entire royal navy and you're jack sparrow, the rum is always gone, and your compass doesn't point north; only at what you most desire.
One thing that I can add as a possible improvement is the use of grafting tape instead of parafilm. Cheaper, easier and mycelium doesn't need to breathe.
I just found your channel and I have to say that you are extremely underrated. Keep up the great work my friend, I'm sure everyone else enjoys your positive attitude as well! Many thanks.
Nice contribution to the growing community. Thanks! Pro tip...bag the Parafilm and just use grafting tape. Dirt cheap and easier to work with. A twist or 2 before you break it will make the ends easy to find.
Damn, this was a great video. I majored in biology with a focus on biotechnology so I got to learn all about sterile technique and am usually super disappointed with how people in tutorials for things like canning food or growing mushrooms don't do a great job of sanitization let alone sterilization or know the difference, but this was on par with taking a microbiology course. I did a lot of tissue culture, so I'm familiar with having to tell people to open the door in the culture room slowly to avoid airflow disruptions and having the words "mycoplasma contamination" trigger Vietnam flashbacks. This is especially true considering you don't have the many-thousand dollar pieces of research lab equipment with a sliding sash, programmable UV sterilization cycles, and gas or vacuum line hookups to work with. Also taking into account different levels of access to supplies for people who follow your tutorials.
It's probably the most informative video about this subject I've watched over the last few years. Well done! Keep up the good work 👏 looking forward to more videos! Definitely like and subscribe 💪
You put so much effort in this video I would say that this is the ultimate beginner guide to mycology 👊🏻💯 thank you for sharing your insights and knowledge on this journey through the world of fungi 👍🏻
This guy is awesome. He teaches it all but the mushroom community as a whole is great. They always offer help and information. Hey man I have a envirco Mac 10 XL 2*4 flow hood. It is my first hood, how do you recommend cleaning the face of it. I got it refurbished from nothing but air. They are highly rated and known in the community. Has brand new filters and was cleaned. I just want to know how I should clean the grill of it. I know you don't want the filter material getting wet.
love your guide and I was really surprised by the amount of knowledge you have. Its obvious that you not only have done your research but you are passionate about the craft and you clearly have experience :) One thing I want to add as my personal opinion though is that with petri dishes its better to not let the mycelium grow to the outer edges. If I notice that my plates are almost fully colonized I will try to just use them to inoculate some bags or something but I wouldnt use them for more lab work.
I always choose the flail method. I have about 150lbs of spawn and substrate all ready. The Enoki are ready for fruiting. Right behind them are the 4 varieties of oysters. Mushrooms are fun. I wish i had the space for a laminar flow hood. I'm doing everything in a still air box or open room.
Holy shmoly!!! What an amazing collection of information, tips and tricks all organized and easy to digest! Looking forward yo getting started on my new adventure, and more of these! Thank you!

Because in that small area of upward rise isn't enough heat to kill anything that's already sanitized? Have you heard of oven tech for in the home?
What technique did they use before electricity?
Ima para pharase for the creator.... Keep in mind the flame only works in a giant sab. Lol. But the sab is a placebo not your alcohol flame.
