I love making Fury the "reasonable authority figure". He leaves Xavier and Magneto alone...because there's no need to make unessecary enemies, and he might even be somewhat sympathetic to some of their goals.

I think the "Why do mutants matter" question is pretty easily answered. They're naturally occurring. People like Iron Man and Ant-Man just have tech that theoretically anyone could get, Cap and Spider-Man are not easily replicated miracles, Moon Knight and Black Panther are avatars of gods, Thor and the Eternals are aliens, but the mutants are humans. They can spring up anywhere and they are frequently called the next step in evolution. Non-mutant people are now afraid they're going to become extinct or obsolete now that super people become commonplace.
I do like your idea though. Obviously the mutants have always been a stand-in for minorities but I think a "we need to protect the children!" angle could be particularly relevant in today's day and age as an LGBT allegory.

I think it's just not super clear (beyond Cap and Iron Man maybe) how much the public knows about where these heroes get their abilities. Like maybe some people in the MCU can have a Peacemaker-type "aquaman bangs fish" conspiracy because they dont know much about the real person. e.g. maybe they think antman is a deformed human-ant hybrid which is why he has the helmet. again it's not very touched on in-universe. so they might not immediately differentiate someone like spider-man with nightcrawler, for example.
but i like the concept of them being openly called the next step in evolution. i know in many stories they are, but what if mutants start popping up and the scientific community starts experimenting, with governments covering up their findings. then someone leaks out that many scientists found the mutant gene to be the the future of human evolution. that stirs a deep fear in a lot of people, particularly ones on the conservative side. little news speech here, blog post there, ad a pinch of ben shapiro youtube ranting and voila you got a society that hates mutants because they feel their humanity is threatened.

I had the idea that "interacting" with an Infinity Stone can activate or strengthen dormant X genes. If you had X genes and got blipped, that's what activated them. This would also retroactively make Scarlet Witch, Quick Silver, and interestingly enough Captain Marvel mutants.

I think my interpretation on why mutants could be hated in the mcu is because their powers are natural, it’s in their DNA, they would be the only characters (minus thor) who’s powers are not given to them but already had. So you could very much still have the original message of racism and homophobia in the movies and have it be hypocritical. Have the powers happen when they’re young (much like kids coming out) and their parents either disowning them or accepting it. I think having the idea that the mcu heroes are characters who obtained their powers rather than had it would be interesting

Also right now there aren't that many superpowered beings in the MCU and the ones that exist all chose the be heroes and protect mankind. I think the reason why people in Marvel hate mutants but not superheroes is because they’re afraid of their children being superfreaks. It’s cute and cool when Spider-Man does it but when your 14 year old daughter turns into a green Hulk like monster it stops being fun.
I think they should make the majority of mutants in the MCU have some physical deformity just to make them even more “scary” to average people.

So one idea, what if some of the fear, comes with people who came back from the flip with obvious mutant powers. The idea that maybe a child came back looking different or even "monstrous" or with a "death touch" could lead to parents abandoned their child, beings cared of them. The idea that to these scared, superstitious parents angry or afraid that their child came back "wrong." There is a chance we would then see a lot of homeless, a lot of scared kids with powers they don't understand, trying to find their place in the world. Ripe for all sorts of people to take advantage of, or try to help in their own way. A story like that could actually be very changeling-esque( As in the old folklore).

I think Charles should have been suppressing memories for decades to keep the public mutant clashes under wraps. The X-Men's whole mission has been to brush mutant messes under the rug and keep them from drawing negative attention.
The X-Men movies should start with Charles dying of old age, which means they can't hide anymore.
We've had more than enough Charles in the movies, let Scott actually lead. He can seek out Emma Frost to ask for her help in keeping them secret, and she can be all like "Nah, I'm starting my own school where we aren't afraid to be mutants", and force Scott and the X-Men to "evolve" with the times and "come out of the closet" publicly and put forward a positive face for mutants so that Emma's school and the Brotherhood don't immediately draw hate.

There's a concept I've had for a while for Mutants in the MCU, and basically, just plaigarize the Inhumans but with Infinity Stones.
Basically, make it so the X-Gene is dormant in a select group of people, and is activated by Infinity Stone Energy (Like with Wanda and Pietro). After both of the Snaps, every mutant worldwide suddeny had their powers activate. This allows for mutants to have existed before, but the majority of the rise of the mutant population be a recent development, and an urgent issue to deal with.

Fury knows about the Super Soldier program through Captain America. Then there's the program General Ross puts Emil Blonsky through in The Incredible Hulk, creating the Abomination. Fury also knows about this. And although not specifically mentioned in the MCU, this would've been the Weapons 9/IX project, and after being deemed a failure, the Weapons X/10 project would be started, creating Wolverine. 7:40 with the upcoming Judgement storyline in the comics, adn Druig believing mutants are actually deviants in that story, this makes perfect sense. It also answers the question of ancient mutants existing and if done correctly could lead to Krakoa sooner.
Also, please Marvel, keep Wanda away from mutants, they've already done a version of HoM for her in the MCU (twice), and keeping them separated makes sense since she doesnt have ties to Magneto there.
Also, the hate to mutants in the MCU does make sense, most of the heroes are non enhanced humans and the superpowered ones are rarely human, the only powered human, Wanda, is actually feared and we see that in CW, imagine a bunch of humans getting powers, that would send masses into hysteria.

11:00 Interesting you bring that up, as that's effectively Nitro's personality and character arc in Wolverine and the X-Men. It's an interesting twist on both his personality and the usual goals of that show, where he himself and the team WANT to bring him to the MRD, so that way he can't be on Genosha to suddenly and uncontrollably blow up, killing the majority of the mutant population on Earth.
Also, man, I wish we could just get the honest journalist Jonah has been in some iterations of the comic. When he defends mutants and decries Spider-Man at the same time in the Ultimate series is a great moment.

I had an idea for the MCU version of the Phoenix Force, and how to tie it to the greater MCU. Tie it to the Infinity Stones.
Idea is, everytime anyone ever used the Stones, any of the Stones, there was always some kind of excess energy byproduct released. Over the course of millions of years of the Stones being used, all this excess energy finally comes together and coalesces into one new being: The Phoenix Force.
Hence, the Phoenix is basically the successor to the Infinity Stones.

The mutants have always been around, but any time there is a significant event infolving them, Xavier uses Cerebro to wipe the world's memories of the event, or at least the mutant element of the event.
At the end of the movie, Jean and Scott convince Xavier that for better or worse, its time to stop hiding.
Then the credits sequence is showing notable events in the MCU timeline where the Xmen were actually present but we as an audience "forgot" about it when Xavier wiped our memories; such as the original battle for New York against Loki, show the Xmen also included in that iconic Avenger circle shot.

I also hope we get to see more sides of how people view/treat mutants. Like maybe parents who don't hate their mutant kids are concerned about them going off and becoming superheroes, since thanks to them growing up in Superhero culture they likely would want to go off and do dangerous stuff. Or maybe we could see the 2-faceness of the media and Hollywood. Where they praise and pat themselves on the back for how "educated" they are even though they don't care about them and just want to use them to get more attention. (Heck that would be an awesome story for Dazzler). And we could see how people who are accepting and sympathetic to mutants can still be worried about how they use their powers (say what you want about X-3 but the scene where the president and Beast talk about weaponizing the cure was great.) Basically, I hope we don't just get the standard bigotry angle we've gotten from most of the previous X Films that all amount to them saying, "Prejudice is bad."

    1. Scientists and/or looters/curious people can break pieces off and that can be the new terrigen crystal-esque source to give people powers.
    2. The water can be “contaminated/irradiated” by Tiamut corroding slowly in the ocean. People’s dna can be slowly changed by this radiation.
Marvel likes to keep it simple, so the explanation will most likely be The Snap but that is just my ideas.

I think a cool way to bring Mutants into the MCU would be too have a Disney+ show called "Sinister" that would be a Breaking Bad style "hero" turned villain study, that follows Nathaniel Essex over about 200 years, and reveal all the little secrets about how and why mutants exist and are a secret, basically revealing a grand conspiracy behind it all that re-contextualizes a lot of the MCU.
Hear me out: you start off with Mr. Sinister bring aware that he's different than normal humans, but not sure exactly how, so he dedicates his life to the new study of evolution to find out. Early on he wants to help humanity (he still thinks he is one, just different), and wants to help people who are "others" like himself. His research is funded by a mysterious person, however, who seems to be 10 steps ahead of everyone, who would be an in disguise (but obvious to fans) Apocalypse.
Over the course of the show the audience would learn the Apocalypse has seeded the X-gene through humanity over thousands of years, and Sinister is the first of them to be active. Sinister's efforts throughout the show would be tracking the carriers if the gene and taking measures up keep it all of the books and out of the public, as well as essentially helping to stear the course of the entire MCU, kind of exactly opposite of the Eternals.
In order to make Apocalypse more of a threat to the audience, they could strongly suggest that he knows the future, knows the snap will come, and knows that his time isn't until after Thanos, and thus, will keep mutants a secret until such time, pulling strings from the shadows, using highly skilled mutants like Sister to control genetic information, and others in very high places. The creation of super heroes in general, like Captain America, could be shown to have been incepted by Apocolypse, as he knew he'd be necessary to defeat Thanos. I love the idea of Apocolypse getting snapped, but being 100% prepared for it, knowing that it's all going according to his plan in way only someone familiar with the future could.
The tragedy of Sinister would be him becoming jaded with humanity, and their need to demonize "others." Sinister's "cure" would ultimately be a hypocritical one, eventually coming to believe that, through genetics, he could improve humanity, make a perfect species free of senseless hate, and basically reshaping humanity to be more like him, and this, not very accepting of anything other than his "perfect" species.
As an aside, I like the idea of him being a leftie, and going by the moniker "Mr. Sinister" because Sinister actually just means "left handed," and the fact that the word "sinister" has come to mean evil upsets him, as it's just an example of villifying the "other," so he uses it in order to reclaim the word.

And if so... are they stalling on introducing the X-Men so that they can just say this new rebooted 616 also has mutants and always did?

One thing that’s occurred to me watching this video, and reflecting on our world, is this: If mutants existed HERE, the crowd who hates and fears them would probably be the same crowd as the anti-science, anti-intellectual, did-my-own-research crowd. Like, I think we’ve come to know these people better over the last few years than ever before. In the MCU, these are the people who would think the x-gene is a fake news cover story, or some woke agenda, or pharma conspiracy, or cover for some New York intellectual to come swoop up their kids, and groom and traffic them. Their pastor (like Stryker) tells them “the truth” - that mutation is a result of sin and social contagion.

Mutants are better when they are an evolution of humanity, the next big step that is not the result of alien shenanigans. The mutant gene can be kick started by the recent energy releseses and threats on Humanity that stresses the dormant X gene, but it has to be already there. He has talked about in the past having a vault of ideas for characters they did not own in the past (believe this got brought up when the Spider-Man deal happened around 2016). I do know the MCU does get inspired a lot by the Ultimate Universe so it's possible the Mutant population could be introduced similarly to that (I believe it originated with Wolverine?) but then you have to consider the ancient mutants like Apocalypse too. I don't envy the Marvel Studios team on this idea but I know they'll make it work.

  • @Tuaron

First off, I appreciate that your video barely touches upon the events of Multiverse of Madness (just not easy for me to see films in theatres anymore, I live too far from one), just sticking to the important points that are hard not to spoil (that mutants aren't actually introduced in it). I've had to avoid far too many channels lately because they aren't gunshy about talking full-on spoilers for MoM in only tangentially-related videos, so your ability to avoid any major spoilers for this is so welcome.
Onto your actual points: I agree that it's best to just introduce the X-Men as a thing people just didn't really know about (at most, they'd be like the A-Team or something, a legend of a group that occasionally helps people), maybe someone like Nick Fury has an idea but doesn't know everything. I am wary about explanations for "why now", though, particularly tying it into Westview or the Celestial - I think it is very important that the X-Gene is a natural occurrence, as that is a vital aspect of the analogy that mutants serve. Having a few famous mutants over the years who aren't viewed as such (Apocalypse, "Lucky Jim", etc.) does fit in with that idea, reflecting famous visible minorities or LGBTQ+ people whose stories have since been ignored/suppressed because of that aspect of their identity, or whose stories continue but without that aspect addressed (possibly hidden or denied). In that vein, I do like the idea of most mutants being part of the younger generation - that seemed to be the initial idea with the characters early on, and works really well for most of the world building, and again fits as an analogue for younger generations who are more open about/welcoming of LGBTQ+ identities. Mutants (and particularly the X-Men) were designed to work as that stand-in for oppressed minorities and it's important they can fill that role (even imperfectly), especially in an MCU that has given us a lot of people in a position of societal power, whether rich guys like Tony Stark or government agents like Nick Fury, Black Widow & Hawkeye, or military icons like Captain America. Just my feelings off the cuff, really - I honestly hadn't thought much along these lines until I started thinking about this video.
