  • Kremowki has been renamed papal cream cake or kremowka papieska when it was learned the late Pope John Paul II loved this dessert. Famous and delicious! Give it a try. For adult version you can add a shot of rum to the cream (at the end of mixing) :)
    I hope you enjoy!

    Ingredients:
1 cup of butter (230 grams)
2 cups of milk (500 ml)
2/3 cup of sugar (150 grams)
1/3 cup of white flour (85 grams)
    5 egg yolks
    vanilla bean
    puff pastry
    icing sugar for decorating
    Instructions:
Flour your surface and roll out your puff pastry to 2 mm thick. Cut out two the same size rectangles. (I use letter size sheet of paper for guidance). Transfer the pastry onto the baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Cover with a tea towel and let it rest for at least one hour.
After one hour preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius and bake your pastry for around 20 minutes or until is nice and golden. Set aside to cool down completely.
Pour your milk into the saucepan. Cut your vanilla bean and remove seeds. Add the seeds and the bean into your milk and bring almost to boil.
In a mixing bowl put your egg yolks and sugar and beat until it is light yellow and fluffy. Add your flour and mix until all is well combined. Slowly add your hot milk, constantly mixing. Transfer the mixture back into the saucepan and bring back on the stove.
Reduce heat and continue to cook and stir until thickened like pudding, at least 2 minutes. Let it cool to room temperature, covered with plastic wrap not to form the crust. Make sure filling is completely cool before
    beating in softened butter.
Place one of the baked puff pastry and spread the cream evenly on top. Cover with the second puff pastry and gently press. Even out the sides with spatula and refrigerate overnight.
The next day cut into rectangles.
When ready to serve, dust heavily with icing sugar.
    Enjoy!

My Kremowki was a great success at my son's school Multicultural Dinner. I cut it into small squares and placed them into pretty paper cups. They were the first desserts to disappear! Thank you again for the clear instructions. Now I'll make it for family events, too.

oh my, i am so sorry! I did mention in the video to let it cool down completely! the butter and the custard have to be the same temperature... which should be room temperature!
    Better luck next time!
    Thanks for watching :)

This looks incredible! My mom's grandparents came over to the states from Poland and all the women were incredible cooks. My mom was such a marvel in the kitchen. Every night our dinner was homeade, heck I didn't even know instant potatoes existed until she passed. What I remember most though was her baking. I'm surprised she never made this. I definitely will be giving this a try. I so want to visit Poland someday and sample Polish cuisine right there.

Hi Ania, I have made this tonight and already I know I'm not going to sleep well for wanting to eat some. We've got guests coming for lunch tomorrow and I'm looking forward to presenting this. I already know it's going to taste fabulous as I left a generous amount in the bowl, purely for taste test purposes lol

    Hi Ania,
OMG!!👍👍 my kremowki turned prefect, it tastes amazing. My son's girlfriend it's her favourite cake & always has it for her birthday cake, when I made it I asked her to taste test, well Ania she was blown away. The only thing I did different was I put congac in the cream. it's so good & it was all eaten next day. UNBELIEVABLE!! I only had one piece. Oh well, that means I have to make another one😉😉, but this time I'm not telling anyone hahahaha 😁😁😁 Thanks Ania 💜💜 Ciao Ciao

This looks amazing! There is a small Polish delicatessen by my parents house that has been there since I was a little girl and they always had delicious Polish desserts. I never knew what this one was called because my Mum would just stop by and bring it home (also, everything in that store was in Polish and I'm Canadian and could never read the signs in the store!) Now I'm really excited to learn how to make this and bring it to my parents!

    Hi ANia,
Thanks for your recipe and I will make it soon.
I bake a lot and love using puff pastry. I find it easier to use a pizza cutter instead of using a knife to cut the puff pastry. Others may also agree it is faster and easier than using a knife. Also I make a similar pastry and love the richness of napoleon cakes.

+Ania's Kitchen ania, its a great recipe and very very elegant, I think I will use the papal crème to fill choux pate' than to deal with the pastry puff, I am afraid it wont come out as symmetrical as yours did, nice finish with the sugar dusting

This turned out PERFECTLY.. I followed your instructions very closely. Thank you so much! Note: I did not put anything in the fridge to cool down, but rather left each thing on the counter to balance room temperature. For those who do not check your written version, it is "unsalted" butter, and for those who do not notice, you will 'whisk' the milk-egg mixture on the stove until it becomes pudding like. Stirring may make it a little lumpy. Sto Lat!

Thanyou for this! Do you ever add almond flavoring to these...? There's a bakery in Cleveland called Mazzone's that makes these with a second layer of just whipped cream on top under a second puff pastry. They have strawberry flavored ones too. Now I know thier secret...Thanks Blessed JPII was also fond of Tiramisu...
