The Chevrolet Blazer is an automobile nameplate used by General Motors for its Chevrolet brand since 1969 for several SUV models:
The Chevrolet K5 Blazer is a full-size sport-utility vehicle that was built by General Motors. GM's smallest full-size SUV, it is part of the Chevrolet C/K truck family. Introduced to the Chevrolet line for the 1969 model year, the K5 Blazer was replaced for 1995 by the Chevrolet Tahoe. The third generation was simply called "Chevrolet Blazer", without the K5 name. In 1970, GMC introduced its own model of the truck, called the Jimmy, which was discontinued in 1991 and replaced by the Yukon. The "Jimmy" name was chosen to reflect how GM may sound in a similar manner to how Jeep was thought to be a pronunciation of GP in the competing market.[citation needed] Both were short-wheelbase trucks and available with either rear- or four-wheel drive.
The K5 Blazer and Jimmy had "full convertible" removable tops until 1975. For 1976, GM introduced a half-cab design that was less prone to leaks and slightly safer in a roll-over. These half cabs had the convertible top begin a few inches behind the driver/passenger doors and run back to the tailgate.
The Blazer's long-wheelbase relative, with an integrated rear body and doors for second row passengers, is called the Chevrolet Suburban.
For 1973, GM's line of full-size trucks was redesigned and updated; internally, GM named this the "Rounded Line" generation, while the unofficial nickname was "square body".[8] A tilt-steering wheel became optional.[7] Although rear-wheel drive Blazers were manufactured until 1982, the majority sold were four-wheel drive. As tested by Popular Science in 1973, a K5 Blazer with the 175 hp (130 kW) 350 V8, automatic transmission, and full-time four-wheel-drive accelerated from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 22.5 seconds, with an observed fuel economy of 9.648 mpg‑US (24.38 L/100 km; 11.587 mpg‑imp) at a steady 45 mph (72 km/h).[9] With the standard 250 I6, automatic transmission, a 1974 K5 Blazer returned fuel economy of 13.69 mpg‑US (17.18 L/100 km; 16.44 mpg‑imp) at the same speed.[10]
The 1973-75 K5 Blazers were equipped with a removable convertible top. In 1976, a half-cab design was introduced and used until 1991.[11][12]
The second generation K5 models incorporated the rear hatch glass and tailgate into a single unit, which allowed the glass panel to retract inside of the tailgate by use of a manual crank mounted on the tailgate or an electric motor activated by a key-operated switch on the tailgate and a dash-mounted switch.[13] The weight of the large glass panel was rumored to be a liability as the manual crank gears wore prematurely and the electric motor was prone to frequent overheating and subsequent failure. This also included the electric motor drive cable which goes to the window regulator to the motor (similar in design to a speedometer cable), which usually would fail under heavy abuse. Another feature of the K5 Blazer tailgate was the safety switch connected to the electric motor which prevented the rear window from being raised if the tailgate was unlatched.
The smaller S-10 Blazer, based on the compact S-10 pickups, debuted in 1983;[4] the K5 prefix was used until 1991 to avoid confusion with the smaller utility vehicle.

Impressive build. Once again, it's about the details. However, and I hate to bring this up, but the driveshafts are the wrong shade of silver. It would be tempting to paint over them, but that would add a noticeable scale 3/16" in their size. So just strip the paint and primer and repaint - should be easy and will add a serious improvement to the build. Please be laughing about now. No joke - this is a beauty truck. Thanks again for sharing your works.

  • @M0UNTAINEER
    @M0UNTAINEER Рік тому

I love your assembly and painting method. I always removed all parts and cleaned molding lines and did any custom work I wanted. Then primer everything and begin painting and detail painting everything and let dry for 2 days then I only clear coated the body. All is left is assembly and then decals. Giving the time I had it usually took 5-7 days to complete. My trick to assembling painted parts without glue ruining them was I used a toothpick. It takes such a tiny amount of glue.

Chris this Blazer is actually based on the stock 1976, not 78, squarebody by Monogram. Most of the parts are there for a stock one except for the rear roof, stock hood, seats, and tires. I hope Revell will reissue the stock version again. We need a squarebody Blazer. Maybe retool a 78 grille as this one is a 76. Great build as usual. Already ordered one.

    • @richardbates2367

I built the same mad mudder molded in red I believe it was actually the ground pounder I was thinking it was a 78 it may have been a 76 but yes the cab and seperate long fleet side bed, but I think my favorite gm square body grille they have done so far is the 79 I think it is desert dunes GMC Sierra jimmy k15 with the removable half roof shell, and the custom hood and scoop and the revell snap tite 79 GMC Sierra tow truck is almost the same truck

I'm trying to recreate an accurate model of the truck my dad used to own (1973 Chevy Custom/10 fleetside longbed stock with inline 6 engine and 3 on the tree shifter in baby blue inside and out). I don't have the truck to go off of anymore for what it was like. Do you have any good recommendations for books that I could get that would have that kind of information in them along with pictures of the stock engines and bays (hopefully in color) and shots of the undersides that I could use as reference information for when I try to build one up based on a few different models? (Bonus if it has accurate measurements of the truck length, and truck bed, etc. so that I can figure out how to scale that down to match.)
I acquired two of the GMC pickup with snow plow by Revell to start with.
Although I won't be using the snow plow from them, I bought two in case they do not measure up to be long beds in scale and if I might have to lengthen the truck beds, the frame/wheel base/muffler pipes/etc. by chopping them up and adding the two kits together to get the correct lengths.
It was my first thought to do, unless you've got a better recommendation to go with?
I might see about finding someone's spare set of stock side mirrors from that '72 Chevy Wedge model you built up, and the steering wheel too, since those would match and the Revell models don't come with any mirrors that I'm aware of. I bought a 3d printed or resin printed correct '73 front grill and two versions of the inline-6 engine off of ebay. I'll worry about the belts, hoses, wires, battery clamps, hose clamps, other engine components needed, seatbelts, etc. later after more research as to what's missing and what I'll need to add to make it more accurate. I haven't decided if I would paint it up in the way of how I last remember seeing the truck with age, rust, wear, etc. or more like it was back when I was young. I'm still looking for the correct wheels for it but I might have to see about hiring someone to make those custom for me since I don't have a 3d printer nor the knowledge of making parts (yet).
Any info you might suggest, I'd appreciate it! Thank you for sharing your builds, you're really fast and efficient with them, and this one turned out looking great!
