    Appreciate what this channel is doing, but I feel I need to point out the other side of the coint to all the "benefits" of being cloud-native: requires an Internet connection to use, and is dependent on the goodwill of the creators, and them not going out of business. Many people with cloud-native IOT devices (or even simply Google products) learned the drawbacks of cloud-native the hard way.

      Thanks for the feedback. While I also get your points, it's probably obvious that in order to keep this channel up and running I also have to make paid video content for companies. FreeCAD hasn't paid me one cent yet for all my videos. I am really grateful to PTC for this support, which also gives me the opportunity to create other content for you. Please also keep this in mind.

      @@XdekHckr I think he means he just made this video for the MONEY😱😅😅. Jk..👀
      But it is pretty wild that he hasn't gotten paid for the most comprehensive tutorial for FREECAD. FreeCAD though robust, is a little clunky compared to paid software and he's making it possible for many people to use it. Although I don't think the software creators get paid much outside of donations either. Much Appreciation to both parties !!!🎉

    Came into this with absolutely no knowledge of CAD Modelling and came out of it making an ashtray. Mind = blown.

    I absolutely love Onshape. Been using it about 1 year now. I don't use it professionally so the free version is perfect for me, and I could care less that my files are all public so that's a non-issue too. However, should I ever need to use it professionally I believe the price is nominal considering it's features.

      I'm happy to hear that you're also a satisfied OnShape customer.

    Onshape license says they can delete all your files if they want. If you are on the free version. Also the upgrade tier from free version is $1500. They need a $300 tier as well.

    Hi Flowwie, being fed up with FreeCad's unwillingness to fix the TopoNaming Problem, but also being unable to use an cloud solution like the one you introduce here due to the need to work offline for about half the time, I would like to ask: What free and PC-local parametric CAD solution would you recommend?

    • @FreeCADAcademy
      @FreeCADAcademy  Рік тому

      Well, I have used many CAD systems on the market, completely free, local and with a professional feature-set that's not so easy to find. Maybe we can discuss that in another video and until so long you find videos for different systems on my channel.

      There is light at the end of the tunnel - planned major features for FreeCAD 1.0 include:
      * The toponaming mitigation
      * a default Assembly workbench
      * more sophisticated material support
      * a "first run" wizard that helps with initial setup steps like choosing workbenches etc.
      They aim for FOSDEM 2024 (no guarantees of course).
      Another interesting Open Source CAD solution are Build123d and CadQuery - if you are willing to code your CAD designs in Python.
      From the "free as free beer" departement Solid Edge Community edition might be closest to what you want - it works completely offline.

    What I don't like about OnShape is the fact you can't download/export to a format where the features are retained. Yes, I know there is STEP and the likes but it that case you lose the feature tree. So for me this is a no-go.

    • @FreeCADAcademy
      @FreeCADAcademy  Рік тому +1

      Is there any CAD program available who does export all the feature tree and history?

    • @jbijnens
      @jbijnens Рік тому +1

      @@FreeCADAcademy Yes, all of them do with the exception of most cloud based systems. Can you save the OnShape files outside of the OnShape environment?
      Like you can with FreeCAD, Siemens NX, CATIA v5, PTC Creo, ...

    If you are an hobbyst and use their free version to produce a few models to 3d print it is fine. For serious use the cloud concept is a big no go. If they go out of business you have lost everything you have produced over the years (and you too will go out of business!!). They can increase the price as high as they want since they hold hostage your data: do you still want to access your data? Then no other option than to pay whatever they ask. Even to still be able to reference your past work you have to pay the annual fee forever!! This business model is only good for them, not for you!!!

    Mal ernsthafte Frage: Was sind jetzt deine Ziele? Soll das Niveau auf diesem Level bleiben? Was ist mit deinem Vorhaben der größte Channel zu werden? Ich muss sagen ich bin mehr als enttäuscht von diesem Video. Billo Standards die man zu Tausenden findet. Bis auf die Werbung am Anfang. Halbes Jahr nix und dann das. da hab ich mir in 6 Monaten nur durch probieren mehr angeeignet.
